hilly. today is saturday, may ninth good morning to you thanks so much for joining us, i'm nicole brewer. it is just about 6:00. we want to send it over to carol because as i said, a lot going on in philly, and a lot of event where people just want good wetter. >> yes, or if you just want to walk down the street or just be outside. we need our weather to be good. and, it will be for the most part very good this weekend, it will be warmer than it should be this time of the year. well into the 80s cooler today than will be tomorrow. but we start with the fog today. look at this in ocean city. it is hard to see anything dense having advisory in effect until 9:00, until 9:00 through burlington county. this is a foggy start. it is not as bad through center city philadelphia. but the fog's not totally absent. just higher up. center city looks just fine. then head down to rehoboth beach. also looking at little fog right there. 58 degrees right now the winds are light, one of the reasons that the fog is able to hang around the way it is this morning. storm scan3 nothing really going on in our area. we do have the fog otherwise

it looks like it is relatively quiet. and, quite mild. temperatures are in the 60s in every single location, until you get out to reading at 57, and the poconos at 52 degrees. it will be warming up today though, by noon, around 73 degrees. by 3:00 p.m., 78. our high temperature today right about 80 degrees. fewer clouds this afternoon but not totally cloud-free. we move on through the afternoon hours. as you can see on our computer model, we start to thin the clouds out by the time we hit the noon hour. finish out the time line. talk about temperatures, precipitation, tropical storm that's all ahead. nicole until. >> carol, thank up. well, it is the final day of the 77th annual dad vail regatta. that means thousands of collegiate rowers will soon be competing o the schuylkill river. live on the river with this philadelphia tradition good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning, nicole. i was just under an hour from start time. i see couple of teams already out practicing, i presume, but

learning a little bit more on that we will talk to the organization president, jim hanna. all right, so, day two here. tell me this weather. what's the situation looking like it will be today for you guys? >> gbsolutely beautiful. people should come early. we are expecting record attendance competition is really going to be intense. the great thing about the aberdeen dad vail regular at, a everyone can get up very close it the athlete, by sitting right on the river wall, you can see the athletes perspiring, as they come into the finish, and listen to the coxins and urging them on. we've got practically 3,000 athlete, it is over 100 schools, we draw crews from aurifies away as ontario canada, san diego california, and florida. this year, very easy for people to get around with the our app. only available on apple devices, if you have apple iphone, or ipad, or if you have the watch, it is very easy, to get directions, to see instantaneous finishes, you get the complete line up.

so we're expecting very, very intense competition today. wire our hometown school drexel which is going to -- drexel dragons hanging onto their title hopefully. michigan from out of state mi. it is here to compete so we're drawing a lot of prestigious schools. although we've always kate toward small school programs, it is interesting, this regatta has grown to be so large. >> thank you so much. that was the goal, 77 years ago, to help schools incorporate these programs correct. because at that point, you know, the interest might have slumped but obviously as we see out here today this is a really exciting, my first time here, so i'm real excited to be here. also as far as transportation, you know, obviously the surge on, public transportation, that there will be free shuttles, is that correct? >> people if they choose to drive, there is a fee to park. but the shuttles are free, and entry is free. so that's great aspect of the regatta, no charge. >> really really great aspect.

we will be out here, as things begin, again nicole, just under one hour. i'm reporting live out here kelly drive. i send it back to you. >> beautiful day for a regatta, alec, thanks. 6:04 right now. new this morning shooting in the suburbs. police say a 20 year old man was shot in the abdomen just before 1:00 this morning. the victim, found in the street near tennis avenue, north spring garden. that's in abington, montgomery county. the victim is recovering this morning from non-life threatening injuries, so far authorities have not made an arrest. >> well, a tourist is left dead on center city street, the result of another duck boat tragedy. horrified crowds watched it unfold 11th and arch street in center city. "eyewitness news" reporter diana rocco spoke to eyewitnesses who describe what happened. >> people are telling she she wasn't paying attention. whatever she was into, it happened so fast. >> horror for a husband wacking steps from his wife as she is struck and killed by a

duck boat caring 28 passengers. >> he heard his wife scream behind him then realize she had been struck. >> happened at 11th and arch just after 5:00 fright in front of the convention center, one of center city's busiest intersections, at the busiest time of day. witness too shaken to up show her face talked to "eyewitness news". >> the duck boat was filled, filled with people going by, they was talking going by, like they usually do. and she wasn't paying attention. and it just happened so quick. >> the 68 year old female was trapped underneath the vehicle. medics pronounced her dead at 5:27 p.m. she has severe head trauma. and also massive injuries to her body. >> chopper three overhead, as the woman is lying in the street. police say the duck boat had a green light and was headed west on arch street when the woman stepped in front of the boat. >> chaos, horrible incident, terrible. >> police say the woman and her husband were tourist frost texas, on their way back to hilton garden in, where they

were staying for mothers day weekend. the woman's husband is escorted back into the hotel by police. he is still holding his wife's purse. >> just horrible. my heart's breaking for this woman. i pray for her. i hope to console her family the best we can. >> the 72 year old driver of this duck boat will likely be found not at fault and no charges are expected to be filed, the ride the ducks organization has released a statement saying their thoughts and prayers are with the woman and her family, and they've offered cancelling to the riders affected n center city diana rocco cbs-3 "eyewitness news". and unfortunately this is not the first deadly accident involving a duck boat two hungarian student died when barge being push by a tugboat capsized a duck boat on the delaware river. federal investigators say that tugboat pilot was distracted by a family emergency and on his cell phone just before that crash. a multi million dollar settlement was reached in a lawsuit over the death.

>> well, now to the latest on the investigation into a violent sexual assault in philadelphia's fishtown neighborhood. this morning investigators have a pretty big break in that case. the brother of that suspect is urging him to surrender. he spoke with "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt. >> because my brother didn't do nothing like. that will i know my brother didn't do that. >> but police say jose's younger brother, manuel, did abduct and sexually assault a 22 year old woman in fishtown. an hour after trying the same thing with another woman who got away. according to police sources, a victim told detectives 24 year old manuel cintron tried to attack her at 4:20 in the morning on friday may first. she told detectives she was walking down ruscomb street when cintron came up with a gun and said let's go and don't do anything stupid or i'll shoot you in the head. the woman got away and called police. an hour later a 22 year old was walking on east york street. she told police he came to up her with a gun and said quote

do exactly what i say, and i won't hurt you get into the van. >> this van seen in surveillance video sources say the woman spent over an hour with cintron where she was sexually assaulted. detective say he dropped her off few blocks away, back up the van so she couldn't see his license plate. >> it was crazy. crazy the charges serious. you know what i mean? and i don't see my brother doing that. i really don't. >> after the woman called police, she gave a description of her attacker. and the police sketch looked like this. here it is, next to cintron picture. >> if you know you didn't do nothing, let them know, you know what i mean? get your name cleared, you know? just let them know you didn't do nothing. that's it. >> police say the victim is at home recovering. the van that you saw in the surveillance video is either blue or gray, if you have any information, give police a call. reporting sbu, david spunt cbs-3 "eyewitness news".

>> u.s. attorney general loretta lynch launches federal investigation into the baltimore police department. the justice department will look for patterns of discriminatory policing, things like the use every excessive force improper arrest this follows the in custody death of freddie gray. six baltimore police officers were charged last week, in his death. >> well, special honor for philadelphia police commissioner charles ramsey. his 46 years in law enforcement are recognized by the national organization of black law enforcement executives. the group held their awards banquet on penn's landing. mayor nutter was among those praising the police commissioner. the mayor once again reiterated his belief that ramsey should stay on as commissioner when he leaves office. it is 09:00 right now. still ahead on "eyewitness news", imagine taking care of seven children? now, imagine doing that while battling breast cancer. coming up: one mother's john which her entire family, by her side. plus this:

we heard that from ed, as well. so you have that moisture hanging around in the air this morning, in fact, i can show it to you. would you like to see it? take a look at this, how about this for family photo? it is nothing. it is ocean city. it is so foggy out there. we do have a dense fog advisory, that goes until 10:00 this morning. there is a boardwalk back there. but, you would never know it. 64 degrees, our temperature right now, in philadelphia, 60 in trenton, 63 wilmington, 54 in the poconos. go along the shore areas, you have temperature of 61 degrees. and that's pretty close what the ocean temperature s so there is so much moisture that's coming in, and you are going to be finds that fog even moving inland, from the shore, this is a look at fog these aren't clouds, these are just bands every fog rolling on in. so some areas heavier than others. just know until about 11:00 this morning until we get some mixing and the sun working on this, that it will be foggy, in a number of spots. it will be mild, too. temperature of 80 degrees today. okay maybe 81. partly sunny skies by this

afternoon. we are also looking at a day that tomorrow will be warmer than today. still, partly sunny skies by afternoon, still starting with some fog in the morning tomorrow. but temperatures getting into the middle 80s. cold front comes through, will change our temperatures, in a dramatic way because it will be warming up by tuesday. it will be in the upper 80s by that point. there is also a tropical storm out there. ana is out there right now. and there is little bit of impact, with that. we get some of that flow coming up offer the ocean we get a lot of humidity, weaver front coming through tonight err act with some of that. so we can't totally rule out shower or thunderstorm chances on both monday and tuesday. but, otherwise we just have some fog some clouds out there, later thon afternoon two spots of maybe a sprinkle, maybe, that should be t and then tomorrow morning we start with some clouds, we end up with sun and clouds, and you might end up even with a isolated shower in a couple of spots tomorrow afternoon. but, otherwise it, looks like

it is a nice mothers day and it is definitely a warm one. then, by monday, we start to seymour in the way of precipitation, this is a look at the present time willing. 1:00 in the afternoon monday. showing few showers around, showing few showers here and there, by monday night but also we get some skies to start to clear out little bit. only to be filled in with few more clouds by tuesday. so casino of a similar, not bad weather pattern but just little unsettled. we do have this tropical storm ana with a wind of 60 miles an hour right now. should not be an impact really for us, it will be passing off the coast of new jersey, and delaware, on monday night. otherwise, we just watch for temperatures that are warm, 80 degrees today our wind coming up out of the southeast five to 10 miles an hour, that's humid direction. tonight 65 degrees, partly cloudy know, fog developing again overnight. but mild overnight. and mild mother day race for the cure. 73 degrees by 8:00 in the morning. so if you are going to be out there, make sure you're ready

for some warm weather by mother day afternoon, eight a degrees, any morning fog that comes partly sunny and mother day, being that warm, it is the third time in 20 years that the temperatures have been 80 or above. we will stay above 80 degrees today, tomorrow, monday, and tuesday, tuesday at after front comes through here our high temperatures will only be in the lower seven's, by thursday, we might stop in the upper 60s. i put 707 there just to make it easy. but you get the idea. it is cooler. by friday, 74 degrees. not bad forecast anyway. nick snow. >> not at all. carol, thank you. it is 6:19 right now. it is a whole new way of looking at art. it is art from the inside out. from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". today is saturday, may ninth, good morning to you thanks so much for joining us, i'm nicole brewer. it is 6:30. we send over to carol for a check on the forecast, a busy weekend ahead carol. >> it is, it is 64 degrees, already this morning. a lot of humidity out there too, nicole. and fog as you may be opening your window, looking out not seeing much, but some fog. why don't we do the very same thing here? first of all finding little bit of fog as you look at philadelphia, ben franklin bridge, but there is some fog there, you go to the shore and that's all you see.

this is ocean city right now. fogged in, socked in, and we do have dense fog advisory, and that goes until about 11:00 this morning for the areas closest to the shore until about 9:00 as you get toward mt. laurel, salem. still theced to less than quarter after mile in this. this is a foggy start, we have to get used to it, though, the next couple every days, may be finding similar foggy starts. visibilities, down to half mile through millville, and dover, .8 of a mile in atlantic city, .3 of a mile in wildwood. now, the visibility is dropped little through philadelphia, and trenton, just mile and a half basically in trenton and two and a half through philadelphia. the fog is there until about 11:00 as i mentioned now, you can see down rehoboth beach boardwalk plaza that people are out. they are not letting this fog impact them getting out. nor should you. 64 degrees, in philadelphia right now. sixty trenton. 63 degrees in wilmington, with our winds about 8 miles an hour, right now as long as we get these wind coming up even though they are out of the east we should be able to break up some of the clouds

and the fog. we have storm scan3 showing not much going on, first thing this morning though you may find a lyle mist some of our weather watchers reporting just light mist out, there all of the humidity we have going on. by noon, 73, by 5:00 p.m. 80 degrees today. we finding some sun trying to struggle through some of the clouds, as we move through the afternoon. we will check out cooler at the end of the week, seven day forecast, coming up. nick snow. >> carol, thank you. as we've been talking about pretty much all morning long, the final day of competition at the dad vail regatta gets underway this morning. the tradition now in its 77th year. "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria huff live along the river with more, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, nicole, here at team temple right now. there are action cooking both already out on the river practicing right here head coach rebecca very curious just talked to the organization president, he was saying it is not only necessarily the strongest but obviously strength important. but how do you get in the

right mindset to get out in the water? >> great question. something we started working on in august, sort of verbalize g, getting ready practicing race, simulation throughout the year, being in race situations, where you're up down, just kind of build that confidence. so year long pros toast get to you this point to be ready to be as fast as possibleyou need to be. >> very good. seeing your work out equipment over there. so, is this the main method of training? i have used at the gym. but his is effective for the water, too? >> our rowing machines technically means work meters, measures your output, so we do a lot of training on those throughout the winter do, a lot of running on land, a lot of weight lifting then obviously the running on the water. so kind of multifaceted approaching to training. >> everyone looks like they're in great shape. how did yesterday go? are you excited for today? >> yes, yesterday went great. advanced five boats in the semifinals this morning, so really excited about that perfect weather for racing today. so we really have high hopes how it will go. >> great. thanks so much for being with us obviously we'll be here for when the rain starts, 30 minutes away from that, reporting live on kelly drive

i'll sends it back to you nicole. >> i had the chance to row with temple's women's varsity eight. tell rebecca and the ladies i said hello and good luck. >> it is a great team out there. well hey, it was an emotional day at temple university's graduation ceremony. student paid tribute to classmate critically injured in a hit-and-run who could not walk with them. rachael hall's mother kathy accepted her daughter's agree on her behalf. she received a standing ovation. hall was critically injured last wednesday night riding her bike on temple's campus. >> we didn't know her. but when i heard about her situation i felt really bad. and i'm glad that her mom came. and i'm glad everyone stood up for her. she had the opportunity to kind of have the support of everyone here. >> now hall is a lacrosse player, and is set to become a police officer in washington dc after graduation. but, she's in critical condition right now. the driver who reportedly confess today hitting hall, 18

year old rashon robert, charged thursday with fleeing the scene of an accident. >> chopper three over the scene after accident friday involving five carls. this is the intersection of allendale and keebler roads in king of prussia. officials say at least two people were taken to the hospital. there is no word yet on what caused that crash. >> well, judge declares mistrial for the manna cured of murdering aton, including from one juror who said he just could not convict the suspect from maple shade. jessica snyder more on the decision, one of the nays' highest profile missing children's cases unresolved. >> pedro hernandez you know what you did. >> anger from the for woman of the jury after 18 days of deliberation. the trial ended with one whole old juror who said despite the pressure he could not vote to convict. >> for me, his confession was very bizarre. in matter how many times it happened. it got more and more bizarre. and i feel that the initial

confession, there were lot of of issues surrounding custody surrounding miranda right. >> jurors spent more than 100 hours discussing this case. and re-listening to evidence. they said there was no fighting or screaming. but it was an intense process. >> when we first walked in, and took our first vote, there was a large chunk of people who were unsure, who had a feeling but hadn't gotten to reasonable past reasonable doubt yet. so there were, i was one of those people t took a few days for me to work through and analyze the testimony. >> we had 12 jurors it, each one of whom contributed at a high intellectual level. >> everyone of us had something to say. >> stanley etan's father spoke for the first time since the trial began in january. >> etan was a beautiful outgoing friendly, curious little kid. he would have made a great adult.

but that's what got him killed. because he was willing to go with this beep downstairs. >> for ten weeks the prosecution presented witnesses and evidence against pedro hernandez, saying he strangled and killed six year old etan but this one juror was not convinced. with the jury dead-locked and dismissed prosecutors have indicated they will retry this case but more definitive decision will come in june. district attorney cy issued this statement. we believe there is clear corroborated of of the defendant's guilt, the challenges in this case were, as err bathed by the passage of time but did not and should not tee doo zero deter it is. he will remain lock up while this process moves forward. but harvey fishwine said hernandez is innocent and had the wrong man from day one. >> i'm sure the city of new york is interested in a resolution of this case, i would say that is only a resolution if the correct man is held responsible.

and we firmly believe that pedro hernandez is not the right man. >> this man did it. he said it. how many times does the man have to confess before someone believes him? >> jessica snyder, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> a large brush fire in the wharton state forest is now out. crews were able to contain that fire and in shamong burlington county after it burn for more than 24 hours. the fire broke out near route 206 and quaker bridge spanning more than 700 acres. chopper three over the scene thursday night showing large amount of smoke and of course flames. authorities aren't sure how the fire started but they say, it was likely caused by humans. >> all right well, events are held nation wood, to commemorate victory in europe day. dozens of vintage aircraft took flight over the national mall on friday. it has been 70 years since the hard fought victory and earlier this week, our carol erickson had the chance to spend some time with local veterans, who were recognized for their service to the greatest generation.

areas, all the way up to philadelphia, that's until about 11:00 this morning for most of the areas palmyra cove nature park, if you were watching an hour or so ago we could see all the way across the delaware to the city of philadelphia. now you can barely see the delaware. you can't even see philadelphia. the fog continues to build. we are going to be finding that as we go through this morning. so, once again we ends up with foggy conditions and i think we will find that very same story tomorrow and maybe again monday morning mild, 64 in allentown, warmed up 56 in the poconos wildwood, atlantic city, very consistent temperatures 61 through here as we get some of the moisture coming in off the ocean and the ocean just about that 61 degrees temperature. so that is a consistent pool of air over the areas through south jersey and also through delaware. storm scan3 can't pick up that very fine mist, some

people are reporting this morning, but there are some clouds out there. and definitely some fog. the low hanging clouds. partly sunny today. by this afternoon with temperatures right about 80 degrees. there is a front out there. we even have a tropical storm to the south. it is called ana. and it sort of impact our weather, just an ads features to the weather i think we get some fog. today later we get some sun. tomorrow milder, temperatures in the middle 80s there is front starts to come through here. temperatures get even higher on monday and tuesday. and then, we see this system moving off the coast. and it is going to be creating just a really moisten vier onment for the possibility of picking up some showers and some thunderstorms. so warm, humid i think is the watch word before everything changes dramatically, by the time we get to wednesday. computer model pretty, pretty on target. i like. that will so we will keep that by 4:00 this afternoon the sun the clouds, we finally break out of some of the clouds s there a stray
