>> breaking right now. trains will start rolling between philadelphia and new york city again days after the deadly amtrak derailment in port richmond that left eight people dead. good evening i'm natasha brown. amtrak's full northeast corridor service will resume tomorrow morning. septa's trenton regional line

will be partially restored as well but trains will not stop in north philadelphia bridesburg or tacony tomorrow and delays are expected. meantime crews have been working around the clock trying to get the track repaired after tuesday's disaster. teams also spent the weekend installing speed controls on the section of track where train 188 derailed. meanwhile there are conflicting reports now an object striking the amtrak train just before the accident. the ntsb believes something may have struck the train's wind shield but investigators i was brandon bostian never radio dispatch that the train had been hit prior to the crash. we have live team three coverage tonight and we begin with "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers in port richmond. matt. >> reporter: natasha a reflection service just finished up here in port richmond, a relatively small crowd here of volunteers, first responders. they were quick to not call eight memorial service but rather, they wanted to get

together and to reflect on tuesday's events before these tracks reopen to the public tomorrow. we have some video to show you that we took not long ago from this reflection service. a small choir sang amazing grace and did you did you haves were released as the eight names victims of this crash were read to the crowd that had gathered here today. multiple members of the federal government including trapt owe transportation secretary of the united states as well as governor tom wolf and mayor michael nutter all spoke here giving their thanks to the first responders and to those who responded to the scene here on tuesday night as well as giving their express..., expressing their sorrow for the people who died as a result of this crash. eight people died and over 200 were injured when amtrak train 188 derailed here in the port richmond section of philadelphia. as we mentioned, the u.s. transportation secretary was here. he gave some words to the

families of those who lost loved ones in this crash. >> even though service will resume either this train or those who rode on it will be forgotten. our hearts and our prayers are still most especially with them. >> and as you mentioned, natasha, speed control technology is being installed on these tracks starting tomorrow when these tracks reopen to the public, there will be an alert system built in to every train that goes through this section that will alert the driver, alert the train's engineer if he or she is going too fast in a particular section of track. that, officials have said, would have prevented tuesday's crash. we are live in port richmond, matt rivers, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> matt, thank you so much. also our team coverage continues now. syma. >> reporter: well, natasha an ntsb official and pennsylvania senator bob casey appeared on cbs's face the nation this morning. the topics included the theory of a bullet hitting the windshield before the amtrak derailment and if a positive train control system would have prevented the crash. >> it could be completely coincidental or it could be causal and that's exactly what we intend to find out. >> reporter: robert sumwalt is a member of the national transportation safety board investigating the amtrak derailment that left eight people dead and dozens injured. sumwalt appeared on face the nation sunday morning to down play the theory that a bullet went through the windshield before the train derailed. >> it looks like something about the size of a grapefruit, if you will, and it did not even penetrate the entire windshield. >> reporter: on the stretch of the track where the accident occurred, amtrak has not yet installed the system called positive train control. it puts a computer in charge of the train controls if

there's an engineer error that could lead to potential danger. >> we believe that positive train control if installed and operational, it would have prevented this accident. >> reporter: a day after the crash a house appropriations committee approved a $250 million budget cut for amtrak. now a house transportation committee will hold a hearing to re-evaluate funding for the rail agency. senator bob casey was on face the nation saying congress should support amtrak as it finishes installing positive train controls. >> congress should not put amtrak in the position of choosing between positive train control safety and fixing crumbling bridges. we have to do both and we've got to make sure they have the resources to do that. >> reporter: casey also said lawmakers should fund the rail system with a budget of $2.4 billion. amtrak is not required to finish installing the positive train controls until the end of the year. ly in the sat center, syma chowdhury, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> syma thank you so much.

stay with "eyewitness news" for the latest on the amtrak tragedy. we will have updates online and on air. on high pressure at cbsphilly.com. now a quiet end to the weekend but we're tracking the chance for more showers tonight. meteorologist justin drabick is live in the cbs3 weather center with his first forecast. justin. >> natasha looking much better tonight compared to last night at this time. we were dealing with strong to severe thunderstorms but now things are roe things are much quieter. a good 10 degrees above average. made it up to 84 degrees in philadelphia as we saw partly sunny skies. look at the atlantic city airport a few miles inland coming in at 87 for the afternoon temperature. here we are on storm scan3. partly cloudy skies right now. the sun is breaking out. isolated showers up north in northampton county northern lehigh valley, kept county delaware exiting the coastline atlantic county new jersey. there could be an isolated shower or two through the evening hours but most areas stay dry. warm and humid outside. still in the low 80's in many

locations, 83 reading, 82 wilmington, 81 philadelphia. similar numbers in the suburbs. 77 degrees in quakertown all right. those dewpoint temperatures gauges as to how much humidity is in the air moisture content very high, dover coming in with a dewpoint of 72 indicating a very humid air mass and it's not going anywhere any time soon. all right, here's your forecast for monday. still warm and humid, an isolated shower or storm in the afternoon, 79 for philadelphia, near 70 at the shore and mid 70's the poconos. we'll check out that seven-day forecast in a few minutes. natasha back to you. >> thank you justin. tonight the investigation it is under way into this early morning fire that destroyed a montgomery county building. flames ripped through this warehouse on caldwell lane in plymouth township. cherri gregg from our sister station kyw news radio has the latest. >> reporter: residents on this block near woodside and palmer woke up around 3:30 this morning to crackling fire at a nearby warehouse.

>> it was horrific. it was nightmarish looking. >> reporter: 50-foot flames, smoke and explosions met firefighters as they arrived at the american flooring and sen text building here on colwell lane. >> multiple structural walls including the roof. >> reporter: five cheer michael burton says a major challenge was getting water to the fire when ripped through the building thanks to petroleum based chemicals that accelerated the burning. >> we believe we have a variety of chemicals that's used in the flooring business that were involved in this fire. we do have some issue with potential runoff that the dep pacific northwest montgomery county hazmat team are assist ing. >> reporter: firefighter had to lay hundreds of feet of hose to tap nearby hydrants in and a large area of the building forced volunteers to stand on lad stories douse the flames.

homes are just a few hundred feet away. and without the quick action of those firefighters, this outcome to be tragic. >> i was happy that it wasn't windy because i figured the trees could catch fire. >> reporter: carla lives just a few hundred feet from the flames and says she is grateful to the firefighters. >> i feel safe, yeah. >> reporter: in conshohocken, cherri gregg kyw news radio for cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> police have released the name of the man who died when he crashed his truck into a montgomery county high school. witnesses say 32-year-old phillippe pay andre pinto silva accelerated into the wall early yesterday afternoon in lower moreland. no one else was injured. today crews spent the day patching up the building. the school will be opened tomorrow a terrifying attack at yellowstone national park. a teenageer is gerd by a wild animal while posing for a picture.

recovering after she was gored by a bison at yellowstone national park. police say the girl was posing for a picture near the bison on friday afternoon when it attacked her. the teenager is an exchange student from taiwan. the national park service says her injuries are serious but they are not life-threatening. meantime it looks like mary lee the great white shark, is swimming south these days. her last ping was about 2:30 this afternoon off the coast of maryland. we don't know where she will turn up next but we do know twitter is watching. the fake twitter handle at mary lee shark has drawn more than 44,000 followers. that handle is not fill rated with o search the company tracking her. several hundred people attended a blood drive today at the camden waterfront. the drive actually was at the camden aquarium where participants saw sharks swimming around while they were rolling up their sleeves to potentially save lives. >> reporter: donors were rewarded with two tickets to the aquarium.

all right justin is here with a check on our forecast. pretty nice day today. >> yeah. >> i saw a little bit of sprinkles earlier. >> couple showers, no severe thunderstorms. different story out in the plains which is typical in this time of the year. it is pounding the plains. tornadoes touched down in oklahoma yesterday. this one caught on tape near the town of elmer. there are no reports of injuries. storms also threw down hail. this stringer video shows large hail cracking windshield as the car drives. another storm in south western oklahoma. pretty crazy ride there. that's true severe weather. luckily we don't see hail usually that big. we did get quarter size hail yesterday in parts of montgomery county with a couple of thunderstorms. let's take you down to the shore where a couple isolated showers just moved off the cost but we're doing okay. a little cool with a breeze near the water people enjoying a nice finish to the evening in ocean city. let's talk about our temperatures this week. kind of a split week going on.

keep in mind average high should be in the mid 70's, 74. tomorrow tuesday we are going to be well above that in the low and mid 80's and then we take a dive so it's like cooler temperatures, less humidity. wait until wednesday and thursday, temperatures actually get below average but then by the end of the week, memorial day weekend we start to increase our numbers right back up to where they should be for this time of year. here we are right now we're in the lower 80's in philadelphia trenton, 80 in allentown, 78 degrees still in mount pocono this hour and it's warm and humid throughout the entire northeast, ohio valley and midatlantic. so with all that humidity around we're still dealing with a few isolated showers and even some thunderstorms that are trying to pop up, one coming up across central pennsylvania right now. the delaware valley again there may be a stray shower oar two especially during the evening hours. this air mass sits over us once again tomorrow and tuesday. still we'll be under the gun for the shower or thunderstorm threat. how is it going the feel? still very humid both on monday and tuesday and then it's going to be very pleasant wednesday and thursday. so, if you have outdoor plans

wednesday, thursday, those are the days. i'm telling you it's going to be great to be outside. tomorrow slightly cooler, upper 70's and near 80 degrees. isolated shower possible. better chance for a scattered shower coming in again tuesday afternoon as this next cold front approaches. it will surge some warmer air in here so tuesday is going to be the warmest day of the week and then the front swings through for wednesday. that changes everything up. we get a nice refreshing breeze out of the northwest pushes out all the humidity,ack full sunshine, temperatures in the mid 70's. all right, let's time things out for if you. here's 11 o'clock tonight. still clouds around, maybe a stray shower or two in some spots. tomorrow morning looks pretty dry, just some clouds in the morning hours. should break out to a little bit of sunshine and again it would be some isolated showers maybe a thunderstorm that does pop up with the daytime heating and then kind of the same deal on tuesday. you can pick out where that front is as it comes through mid to late afternoon. it could contain a shower or thunderstorm especially for the second half of tuesday. all right. notice the wind direction. right now it's out of the west so it's on the warm side. tomorrow though, we get a front that comes in from the

north and east. now we get that wind switching off the ocean so cooler air will move into new jersey tomorrow. so, it will be noticeably cooler and then the wind switches right back to the south and we have the on tuesday bringing back that warmth. all right, society so let's talk about those temperatures. tomorrow morning mid and upper 60's so again another warm start for your monday morning. there's that push of cooler air coming in by midday tomorrow into the afternoon. look at that temperatures may drop into the upper 60's right along the coastline but still inland away from the water you're going to be in the 80's especially out in berks county and chester county. tuesday warming up again low and mid 80's for afternoon highs. so here we go tonight partly cloudy skies, 67 for the low t warm and humid day for monday, partly sunny. could be an afternoon shower or storm. all right. here we go the extended forecast still feeling like summer on tuesday low 80's for the afternoon high with that afternoon shower or thunderstorm. we'll bring back full sun drop the humidity for wednesday, very pleasant, 74. low 70's for the high and thursday. you see the beach ball? that

giving ryan howard the day off and providing a little pop gets a good swing on this ball out to left field for his third home run of the season. to the sixth franco has been on a tear. called up on friday and today hits this ball off the wall in dead center field. darin ruf able to score all the way from first on that one. franco goes head first into three with a triple. then in the eighth it's franco again and he really gets ahold of this one. this is his first major league home run and the phillies go up five to nothing. but look what happens after the home run. this lady gets the ball, she drops the ball and then this guy comes over and just bumps her out of the way and takes it. how rude. that was the worst thing that happened at the ballpark. phillies went on to win it six to nothing. >> be happy for that.
