this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". happening now, amtrak is getting back on track after last week's deadly derailment. the first train from new york to philadelphia is leaving right now. a train from 30th street station will passover the rebuilt tracks in port richmond coming up in less than a half hour. now, the trains operating today along the northeast corridor are in complete compliance with federal safety orders. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo joins us now at 30th street station, with the latest on this. jan, good morning. >> reporter: erika, good morning, i just spoke to amtrak spokesperson, who says some 300 people work to make that happen over the weekend. these tracks now under positive train control. and as you mentioned starting

just before 6:00 a.m., here at 30th street station normal amtrak service between philly and new york city will resume for the first time since that deadly crash last week. it killed eight and injured more than 200. you can see there on the information board, it is reflected right there all trains running on time, starting at 6:00. and when those trains pull out again they will now be using positive train control through that section of track in port richmond, crews worked around the clock this weekend to finish that installation, of course, that's the technology that will automatically slow a train to safe speed in case of human error. meantime national transportation safety board investigation into the cause of this crash continues. investigators are now looking into the possibility that amtrak 188 was hit by an object before the crash. however, everyone we've spoken to this morning who is hopping on a train they say they are confident in amtrak, and riding the rales to new york city. take a listen. >> amtrak's remarkable. because we travel very efficiently, very cost
