this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". happening now, amtrak is getting back on track after last week's deadly derailment. the first train from new york to philadelphia is leaving right now. a train from 30th street station will passover the rebuilt tracks in port richmond coming up in less than a half hour. now, the trains operating today along the northeast corridor are in complete compliance with federal safety orders. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo joins us now at 30th street station, with the latest on this. jan, good morning. >> reporter: erika, good morning, i just spoke to amtrak spokesperson, who says some 300 people work to make that happen over the weekend. these tracks now under positive train control. and as you mentioned starting

just before 6:00 a.m., here at 30th street station normal amtrak service between philly and new york city will resume for the first time since that deadly crash last week. it killed eight and injured more than 200. you can see there on the information board, it is reflected right there all trains running on time, starting at 6:00. and when those trains pull out again they will now be using positive train control through that section of track in port richmond, crews worked around the clock this weekend to finish that installation, of course, that's the technology that will automatically slow a train to safe speed in case of human error. meantime national transportation safety board investigation into the cause of this crash continues. investigators are now looking into the possibility that amtrak 188 was hit by an object before the crash. however, everyone we've spoken to this morning who is hopping on a train they say they are confident in amtrak, and riding the rales to new york city. take a listen. >> amtrak's remarkable. because we travel very efficiently, very cost

speaking out about her husband. she said he was casino, humble and a family man. >> i sit and talk with him all the time. and i can hear him guide me. and i don't know. i don't know how i am going to deal with it. i don't know. but i feel his presence. >> jim gains worked for the associated press, jacqueline said she not looking for explanations about the derailment right now. >> jaw dropping video right now as a train crashes into commuter bus. check this outright here. surveillance video on board the atlanta transit bus shows the moment of impact as a train smashes into it last week. you can see passengers here scrambling, just to get off. that will some with just second to spare. all five passengers were treated for bumps and bruises the driver walked away, but quick thinking there saving their lives. wow. 5:33, we want to check in with katie on muggy monday. do you need the umbrella? what do you think? >> this is one of those where

we end one couple the scattered showers thunderstorms, granted, if you get stuck underneath one of the showers or storms, you could get drenched briefly so, you know, i mean, i didn't bring my umbrella today. does that help? i guess that would help, right? but it is just one of those very classic summer like forecasts where most of the day you're basically rain-free. but there is going to be one point during the day that you venturinoly see few pocket of activity on the radar. right now see the combination after front, offer to the west here. see that trail of clouds, from michigan, down into indianna, the ohio river vale? that's the combination of the next cold front that's what's got to cross through before we can completely just get rid of any, for one thing, the moisture content in the air but also this potential for storms. that will will be with us for the next two days. so for now you're holding tough mid and upper 60s even wilmington at 70, very mild start to the day. as the day progresses see some clouds, see at least hint of sunshine, and we are going to warm things up for you here to summer like low 80s territory

southbound, little bit more volume than northbound, how about that? so, looking pretty good speeds in good shape thereon 95 through delaware county. we take you out to 202 at 29. the headlights are northbound, pretty quiet out here this morning. but probably change over the next hour or two. good morning new castle county delaware. here is your speeds, route one no problems. around bear, delaware, all the way up to christianna. ninety-five looks good, as well and the 495, 95 split around wilmington running at the speed limit. delaware memorial bridge looks good. once you hit i-95, new jersey turnpike, looks good. closures, slow spots to deal, with frankford avenue police still directing traffic but sedgley avenue and wheat chief lane still remains closed from the train accident. but now amtrak service has been respond today between philadelphia and new york, and that's good news there. ukee erika, we send it back to you. >> time 5:36. in business news this morning legendary toy store is getting ready to shutdown.

by boat. near wichita heavy rain and hail. watch here as the windshield gets smashed that cracked all the sudden. driver tried to stay on the road, but such difficult conditions, wild weather. fortunately here, just dealing with what some showers and mugginess, katy? >> really, pretty much all we've got in the forecast, few showers, thunderstorms the kind of weather pattern you hear almost on daily basis when we hit the summertime. but that said, we are off to again muggy start out there this morning, and eventually, we will look ahead it much more comfortable air as we start to wrap up this month of may. we've got temperatures generally mid 60s here, take you on tour of some of the 65 degrees from ed connor, mixture every sunday and clouds and he's out in chesterfield cloudy, tad cooler, he said here, but you will feel the humidity, absolutely, concur with that. 64 degrees sent in from kerry has the mixture as well, clouds sun, mt. laurel. and very modest breeze, that's part of the problem why you might be finding a little hint

of fog depending on location. same scenario here for david. he's at 68 degrees, though, in clementon, new jersey, where he is located. actually we take you over to neighborhood network shot. tune in regularly, i hope do you, typically when i show this shot, see the mountain off in the distance, and you can't. so even though you can at least see the for grounds visibility isn't horrible, we do have enough moisture in the atmosphere, light enough winds, to a have allow low clouds to formment so of you might run into that low cloud cover reducing your visibility, as we talked about, second ago, there were nasty storms rumbled through the central planes, cold front responsible for that, starting to cross through the midwest and basically heart of the southeast, this is what has to cross through before we can officially say we can wipe our hands clean of the mugginess as well as the potential for showers and storms. so today as well as tomorrow, shower thunderstorm, scattered variety of those showers and storms tomorrow. and probably tonight as well. 81 degrees apiece, and then,

there's over two hundred thousand students in philadelphia. jim kenney and tony williams are fighting over public schools versus charters. i think they're both wrong...it's making sure they all get a good education. teachers should have their contracts respected. they also should be held accountable. and it's wrong philadelphia gets less school funding than other parts of pennsylvania. i'll work with harrisburg to change that. but if they refuse i'll take them to federal court. as mayor i'll do what's right for them. >> good morning, everyone, here's what's happening. this is new video from penn station, where trains from new york to philadelphia have just departed. northbound trains going from philadelphia to new york are
