"cbs morning news" for tuesday, may 19th. good morning, good to be with you, i'm anne-marie green. this morning, police in waco texas are on alert for members of motorcycle gangs on their way to retaliate for the shoot-out. nine gang members were killed and 18 wounded. about 170 members of five separate gathngs are under arrest charged with crimes. so many that authorities temporarily opened a center to process them. the biker suspects were driven to the courts by the bus loads. each is being held on $1 million bail. it's unclear how many will face murder charges. heavily armed officers remain outside the restaurant where the trouble began. dozens of motorcycles left at the scene were carted away. authorities expect to finish collecting evidence there today. police say the shooting began

after a restaurant fight broke out. the shooting moved to the parking lot and that's where police responded. police acknowledge shooting at the bikers but it's unclear, how many if any gang members were killed by police gunfire. police have been threatened and authorities are on alert for retaliation. >> it's our understanding at one point, that the leadership of the bike groups had basically put a green light out for motorcycle officer in the area. >> reporter: motorcycle officers have been ordered to stay out of the area. gabe spent 30 years under cover infiltrating biker gangs. >> if you're familiar with how these guys think, their tools of the trade, guns knives hatred for each. there was nothing shocking about it, it just happened to take place on a large scale in a public venue.

>> autopsies are being performed on each of the nine to determine how they were killed and the waco restaurant chain has pulled away from the franchise. and now on hillary clinton on a private searcher while she was secretary of state. late last night, the state department proposed a deadline of january 2016 to complete its review and release. clinton turned over 55,000 pages last december. she said she wants the e-mails made public but admits she erased roughly as many e-mails as she handed over. clinton is expected to testify before a house panel about her e-mail practices and a deadly attack on a compound in libya. yesterday, clinton began a trip to iowa since she announced her candidacy for presidency. she woke on fair wages for workers and campaign finances. she took no questions from

reporters. she has more scheduled for today. president obama is restricting the transfer of military equipment to local police forces. he says guns and tanks made for combat used by local law enforcement can send the wrong message. susan mcginnis is in washington with details. >> anne-marie good morning. for those who responded to the response of rioting in ferguson looked more like an occupying force than local law enforcement. and there could be more changes coming. >> reporter: amid heightened tensions over police tactics today lawmakers will look at ways to build trust between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. they will testify on police accountability and training. president obama is already taking action, issuing an executive order to limit military equipment like tanks and grenades in the hands of state and local police.

>> we've seen now militarized gear can sometimes give people a feeling like there's an up occupying force as opposed to a force by the community serving them. >> reporter: after half high-profile police shootings. among them the shooting of 18-year-old michael brown in ferguson missouri. and most recently the death of 25-year-old freddie gray who died from injuries while in police custody in baltimore. >> ultimately when violence erupts in a city police are going to bring whatever force they have to bear and bring more if they need it. >> reporter: while they will have to announce what they request publicly and explain how they train the officers to use the military-style equipment. and here on the table here on capitol hill today the use of body cameras by police. anne-marie. >> susan mcginnis in washington. thank you, susan. the fbi says it found no evidence that damage to the windshield of an amtrak train

that derailed in philadelphia was caused by gunfire. the national transportation safety board says it's not sure if anything hit the locomotive's windshield. but the safety board has not ruled out that possibility. eight people were killed in the may 12th derailment. more than 200 others were injured. in iraq shiite militias are gathering at a military base outside of ramadi this morning. the iranian-backed fighters are preparing to retake the city from isis militants who took control sunday. the administration called the loss of ramadi a setback. 50 civilians have died since friday. thousands pled the violence. and this morning, rescuers are searching for victims of deadly flooding and mudslides in colombia. heavy rains triggered an avalanche of debris of rain and mud in the down of salgya

the trial of a new york city police detective accused in a motorcycle gang attack from manhattan this morning. the suv drive beaten by a mob in the 2013 incident talked about it publicly for the first time monday. alice gaynor of our new york city wcbs reports. >> reporter: covering his face with a t-shirt undercover p.d. detective detective

bar-shed tuck. the driver of the suv was pulled out of the suv and beaten in front of his wife and daughter by another biker. the assistant district attorney said barshtuck reached into the suv and drove off. in court, he described what happened as videos on his hands, face and torso were displayed. panic, he said he knew he hit someone because he feared for their lives. the assistant d.a. called what the bikers did classic mob brutality. the defense also asked him about bar-shtuck can you attribute any aggressive physical conduct that day to this particular person? no. to which his defense attorney says, quote, though it wasn't his proudest moment that doesn't make him a criminal. >> that's alice gaynor

reporting. both bar-shtuck and a co-defendant had received deals. and now in washington a suspicious fire that killed a husband and wife their 10-year-old son and a housekeeper. police released new video monday of the savopoulos family the family's porsche burning in maryland. over the weekend, surveillance footage showed a person of interest. a man in a hoodie can be seen running behind a building. police are investigating the thursday fire as an arson and multiple homicide. straight ahead, amazon goes underground. we'll tell you how the new york city subway is helping the online retailer fulfill orders. now at chili's new top shelf ranchero chicken tacos.

rig. the pioneer is back. they're concerned about the possibility of an oil spill and the effects of burning foftle fuel. here on wall street the dow added 26 points yesterday. s&p rose 6 points. the nasdaq finished 30 points higher. in the two states hardest hit by the bird flu, iowa and minnesota, it's estimated the cost to be $1 billion. iowa, the nation's leading egg producer has lost about 20 million chickens. minnesota lost more than 8 million birds. also impacted feed supplier trucking companies and processing plants. and a duel in the smartphone wars again apple and samsung. a federal court ruled that samsung did illegal copy some of the patented features in apple's iphone. but the court said apple can't claim damages for copying the overall appearance.

that means samsung will end up paying less than the initial $3 nerve million in damages. for bucks with a recent deal with the streaming music service spotify. the deal lets customers have a say in the music played in the store. and customers can listen to the music in the star bugs and spotify app. and in new york amazon is taking the subway. trying to make good on the prime now. amazon is reportedly using manhattan subways to get packages to customers. "the financial times" reports that amazon loads small push carts with packages as and then it arrives underground. anne-marie. >> thanks a lot, jill. in sports the tampa bay lightning scorched the new york rangers to tie the nhl eastern conference finals at a game apiece. tyler johnson had three goals.

three generations of the british royal family were on hand monday with the opening of the world famous chelsea flower show in london. queen elizabeth and her husband the duke of edinburgh were joined by the lavish display by prince charles and his wife camilla. prince aharry greeted his grandmother. monday was commencement day in new york city. among those in attendance two inspiring writers with one incredible story. anna werner reports. >> reporter: the graduation from columbia university marked the end of years of study and the beginning of a new family. her mother and her sister joining her here together for the first time.

columbia as perfect strangers. >> we were going around the table and lizzie said something about piece adopted. there were a couple of details that started to add up. the light bulb went off. i had this big uh-huh moment. >> reporter: and you're looking at her, what are you thinking? >> the first thing i thought was, is this real life? >> reporter: valverde had previously found their mother and reunited the family just last night. >> there was a lot of pride, a lot of sorrow. >> reporter: why the sorrow? >> because i wasn't there to see them grow up. >> reporter: why didn't the two of you get back when you found your mom? >> we definitely got a sense like there's a higher sort of power. i got my fairy tale. it feels like a fairy tale. >> reporter: they both now have degrees in creative writing, and a tale of their own to tell one that only sounds like fiction. anna werner, cbs news new york. well coming up
