well, it is down to two in philadelphia's race for mayor. >> jim kenney has beaten five rivals the in the democratic primary and will take on melissa murray bailey in november. justin finch joins us at city hall where within of them will have a new office in january justin? >> reporter: erika and ukee, good morning. but by then as you mentioned in january we will have a new mayor but focus is on two nominees, jim kenney and melissa murray bailey both outlooking forward to their campaign now that kenney is officially in place as democratic nominee. kenney accepted the nomination at 10:00 o'clock last night at his election headquarters. he was flanged by his supporters which included his broad coalition which includes black leaders lgbt advocates and teacher and labor union head. kenney says that coalition represents the the interest of the city, very wide interest of the city, a city he has

called home his entire life. now after that victory he says he is looking forward to the campaign and of course the raza head, lets take a listen. >> the challenging facing our great city under funded public school poverty and strained relationship between the community and the the police. we are facing tremendous opportunity, all eyes will be on philadelphia with next year democratic national convention. >> reporter: kenney is swearing off against republican business woman melissa murray bailey. he said that she's looking very much for to the campaign as well. lets take a listen. >> we have two choice, one a choice of people who have been doing the same thing for 20 years and expecting different results, and then me, someone who represents a different way of doing something. >> reporter: bailey, of course has an uphill battle ahead, most reg are stirred

voters in philadelphia happen to be democratic. 80 percent of voters are. also to the last republican mayor of philadelphia, you might recall, is bernard samuel from 1941 to 1951. he served a very, very long time ago. kenney, as well as bailey are set to meet at a fundraiser a at broad street ministry at noon this afternoon. we are live at city hall, i'm justin finch for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". kenney's win was close to the land slide but candidate that came in second was state senator anthony hardy williams. he thanked his supporters in center city. >> tonight ends the election but does not end the values that brought us together during the course of this journey in this cam pain. i want to congratulate jim kenney for running a campaign that was very, very successful. i want to thank all of you for

embracing the the concepts that made this more than a campaign. >> for the results of the several other elections including city council and state supreme court just head to our web site at cbs philly.com. right now lets check with katie for another forecast after an interesting tuesday. how we doing today. >> it is more clear cut today we can peck to see sunshine all day long, a breeze that will hang on as we sit between systems but high pressure essentially parking itself over our region. it will lead to a generally quiet stretch of weather as a result and you can see that reflected for that one thing we have wet weather clearing out. high pressure remaining in control. it will be cooler and brighter. single layer of cloud cover toward the poconos but we have got clear skies at this point. we've got that breeze picking up between systems and here's what it is reflecting when it comes to the observations over course of the next hour. it is not terrible but noticeable.

anytime we have wind coming from the northwest most often anyway it does make it feel cooler. sometimes in the height of the summer that is exactly what you want because it feels refreshing but on a morning like this now that it is cooler outside it will make it feel cooler to you anytime that wind blows. the as the wind progresses temperatures will rebounded with full sunshine. we are expecting lower 70's here today. even a smidge cooler then average with the expected daytime high of 72 degrees but still a nice day. we will look ahead to tomorrow, this is one little hiccup that will happen here. there is a storm system nearby to our south. that will have a direct impact on our area which we will discuss. probably a shower in the southern counties. holiday weekend is looking good. so yeah, we've got the some nice weather coming up here and timing could not be better ukee, back to you. well takata is acknowledging its air bags are defective. the japanese company agreement with federal officials are

expected to lead to the largest auto recall in u.s. history. it covers certain driver and passenger side air bags, inflaters that can explode with so much force it send shrapnel flying through the the vehicle. the defect is link to six deaths and more than 100 injuries. >> takata still has not identified the root cause of the defect but we cannot let that delay our actions that we are taking today. >> to find out if the recall includes your car check your vin number with the recall list on line. we have the link at cbs philly.com. happening today preliminary hearing for both suspects accused in the shooting death of officer robert wilson the third. march 5th wilson was killed by armed robbers at the a game stop in north philadelphia while buying a gift for his son. prosecutors say that they plan to prove that carlton hicks and ramone williams fatally shot officer wilson during a

robbery attempt. former pennsylvania state police corporal pleads guilty to reckless endangerment in the accidental shooting death of trooper david kedra. richard schroder shot and killed him in a firearms training exercise last september. grand jury found that he failed to make sure that the handgun chamber was clear. schroder faces five to ten years at prison in sentencing. a preliminary hearing for treasurer, accused of stealing from the bucks county gymnastics club. teresa foot, spent 12 years as a treasurer of her club, stealing more than a $160,000. and, this alleged theft was discovered back in december, after foot was forced to resign the foot is charged were four felonies including theft. here's the latest in the investigation in the amtrak crash, cbs news has learned that brandon bostian had been working on the northeast corridor for fewer then three

here guys. storm scan three showing retreat of the frontal boundary. it did come through with somewhat lackluster fashion yesterday for our area, specifically which was good. we didn't to have deal with anything too strong thankfully in terms of the thunderstorms but now it is out of here and high pressure has taken its place and we are looking good. there is a disturbance that has been responsible for nasty thunderstorms, and some river valley at this point but this disturbance is rolling east and does appear as though it is bypassing our area just off to the south. lets walk you through this pattern here. for now it is a nice day but not terrible, sunny and with that lower humidity it feels comfortable. storm near bay tomorrow is one and only hiccup that comes as we look to the upcoming weekend here. with it close by enough it will bring in more included for our area we will have a hard time hitting 70 degrees in philadelphia, the further are north you are the the

jim kenney will be the democratic candidate for mayor of philadelphia this november. kenney beat five other contenders for right to face republican melissa murray bailey in the in election. philadelphia has not had a republican mayor in 60 years. japanese air bag maker takata is widening its already huge recall of the defective air bags. they added 18 millionaire bags after pressure from u.s. regulators they are responsible for six deaths and injured worldwide. we have been talking about this for a week now david letterman's last show is tonight right here on cbs 36789 dave says that, unless it is rain out then it will be part of the labor day double header. dave has hosted for decade and hosted a late night talk show for 33 years. our nicole brewer is live up in manhattan outside ed sullivan theater a live report coming up at 5:00 tonight. >> won't be long now. 4:50. lets check business news, the

tack commodore barry delaware memorial bridge. the speed sensors are nice and high. looking at our wide 55 is our average not only on i-95 and schuylkill but even traveling the pennsylvania turnpike, northeast extension and it is all good right now. if you are traveling in new jersey we have construction on 295 northbound between 42, and black horse pike. you'll see one to two lanes being closed and this is ongoing for still about another hour or so, be careful of that and we have construction on delaware, at 896, two left lanes will be blocked until 6:00 a.m. how are we looking weather-wise. >> easy, breezy over here too. >> hey hey. >> just saying. >> it looks like a nice day overall. we have high pressure taking place of the retreating low and with that, you tend to see a breeze kick in. that is what happens behind cold front and that is what we will have here today. nothing terrible. you can see wind peak as high as 20 miles an hour briefly but storm scan, is clear.
