o november in philadelphia's a race for mayor. >> jim kenney won a six way democratic primary his closest challenge came from state senator anthony hardy williams. former district attorney lynn abraham was third. nelson diaz, doug oliver and milton street each got less than 5 percent a piece. kenney's next opponent is melissa murray bailey. election day is tuesday november 3rd, less than six months from now. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch joins us from outside city hall to talk more bit, justin, good morning. >> reporter: ukee and erika good morning. poll numbers favored jim kenney going in the the race and he came out the winner. after the victory speech he is looking ahead to the raza head as well as to his new g.o.p. opponent. just after ten tuesday night and after waiting through a sea of supporters former city councilman jim kenney stood at the podium for the first time as city democratic mayoral nominee. when asked what made him resonate as owe voters.

>> positivity, which is all centered around poverty, blue k, blue collar jobs, all surrounding neighborhoods. every neighborhood is having difficulties. >> reporter: new nominee spent 20 years experience that helped him gain support from all quarters of the philadelphia, including influential black leaders respected members of the lgbt community and teacher and labor union. a coalition kenney hopes to works with in harmony as mayor. >> almost like a conductor of an orchestra. everybody has talent, skills, instruments whether it is in the city council or state legislature or in the business community and labor community and conduct ago this whole group of people to make beautiful music. >> reporter: former d.a. lynn abraham and state senator anthony hardy williams spoke highly of the race and its winner. >> i want to congratulate jim kenney for running a campaign that was very, very successful this was a unique experience for philadelphia, and i hope that future elections will be conduct in this way.

cruise line officials say everyone on board is safe and that power has been restored. today state wild life officialness california will gauge the impact from an oil spill, that has now made its way to the state's beaches estimated 2100 gallons of crude oil escaped from a pipe off the california coast. some oil has now washed up on to the the state beach in, southern california. volunteers have been helping to rescue beach wild life stuck in the oil slick. hillary clinton wants the the state department to speed up the release of her e-mails from when she was secretary of state. the democratic presidential hopeful made at peel during a campaign stop in iowa. clinton's comments follow a federal judge's decision to reject the state department proposal to release e-mails by next january. >> i have said publicly i'm repeating it here in front of all of you today i want them out as soon as they can get out. >> but will you demand it. >> they are not mine, they belong to the state

good morning everyone thanks for joining us. the here's is what happening. air bags are supposed to protect you in the crash but now, 34 million are being recalled, because they could actually hurt you. >> thinks the largest auto recall, ever in the u.s. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabao joins us from university city with the information you need to necessity to stay safe on the road. a lot of folks worried this could be their kara expected jan. >> reporter: erika and ukee, to figure out if your car is on this recall list you will need your car's vin. you can find that number on the lower left hand portion of the windshield. then event their number pot web site, and we have that at cbs philly.com. in the meantime as you mentioned the secretary of the transportation is calling this is biggest and most comprehension complex consumer safety recall in u.s. the history. it is a problem that is turning what should be a life saving device into a hazard, angelina, knows all too well. >> i had had a hole in my chest, clear enough to see the bone in the bottom.

>> reporter: she was driving a 2001 honda civic when she was involve in the 25-mile per hour crash, her takata air bag exploded and piece of shrapnel ended up in her chest. >> everybody kept telling me air bags don't do that, the the problem is, these ones are and that is in the right and that is in the okay. >> the air bag inflaters we suspected did in the work correctly. we believe that they have been responsible for at a least five deaths, in the united states. but up until now takata has refused to acknowledge that their air bags are defective. that changes today. >> this recall involves 33 .8 million takata made air bags. here's what happens. when a vehicle is involve in the accident an chemical that inflates can explode, too much force, that can blow apart metal inflater canister sending shrapnel flying toward driver and passengers. officials have not yet determined what caused the inflaters to explode but

we will keep sunshine all day to day and temperatures will still be comfortable and that is when they will heat up in the lower 70's and it feels nice outside. we have enjoyed above average warmth as ovulate and behind the cold front we are kind of back to reality here again folks. storm scan three empty looking g granted a handful of clouds in some spots but those will thin and we will end up with sunshine. the other issue of course, we have to go back to this one again, oak, burch, mapel still predominant issues in terms of spring allergies. if you do suffer from those allergies, especially the next couple of days you will have a nice opportunity to be outside. make sure your medicine are ready to go. current wind speeds are not terrible. at highest 13 miles an hour really up in the the mountainous terrain is where we are finding the breeze right now. notice that arrow straight up out of the northwest. because of that it is a cooler breeze by comparison. but nice, dry air. in other ward we will see anything left over with any cloud cover break for some sun, with the breeze holding on tough all day to day.
