day. we have temperatures in the the lower 70's, absolutely ideal. it looks beautiful out there hard pressed to find cloud just a terrific look no matter where you are you can make a holiday out of it sitting on the front step if nothing else. we have a temperature of 49 degrees. that is in cape may courthouse. the sunnies coming up there. it is a chilly start to the morning. wind are fairly light. temperatures through center city philadelphia is 51 degrees. we are also speaking of the chill, continue with that frost advisory in the poconos and that goes until 8:00 o'clock this morning for temperatures in the the low to mid 30's. just kind of unbelievable this time of the year we are finding temperatures that are that cold but we are. storm scan three showing we have clear skies and clear skies will always aid a cold start to the day. we have 51 degrees as the temperature in philadelphia. it cropped to 34 in the poconos though. forty-six in trenton. forty-ninth 49 in wilmington. fifty-five in wildwood at this

out here soon up and down the boardwalk. we have early risers getting in their jogs and what not. maybe they can relax the rest of their day. there will be a big group here in the relaxing at all in a couple of hours. i'm here with amy. she head up the memorial day beach challenge. you have 500 people getting ready to head out here. >> so last night at 1:00 a.m. registrations at 499 so i'm sure there is people that got up earlier then i did and gone on line and registered. we have a couple of events happening today. that is a cumulative of we will be over 500. >> wow, so this is a real challenge. there will be people in the water, doing obstacle courses crawling through the sand. is what the point of all this. >> we are here to raise fund for 31 heroes project navy seal foundation and travis manion foundation. we are 100 percent volunteers. every single one of us is here because we want to teach a new generation what the memorial day is about and help our veterans and families of the

rivers cbs-3 "eyewitness news". and for a list of everything happening over the next few days just head to our web site at cbs philly.com. new this morning a four car crash on the the schuylkill expressway, leaves one person dead. this is new video just back from the scene, it happened just before 5:00 in the eastbound lanes of i-76 a at passyunk avenue. crash investigation has several lanes tied up at this hour. we will bring you updates as soon as we get them. fire fighters made quick work of the fire in the 1500 block of south broad street overnight, flames broke out just after 3:00 in the three story home. officials tell "eyewitness news" there were no injuries but one resident has been displaced, the fire's cause remains under investigation. flames, plumes of dark black smoke could be seen for miles, fire fighters battled a fire at old sunoco refinery in south philadelphia. this all happened on the the three you this block of pen rose avenue just before

6:00 o'clock. refinery is now known as philadelphia energy solutions girard point. chopper three was over the the fire fight as crews sprayed water on the flames. officials say that a pump seal failed causing crude oil to burn. no injuries were reported. a 23 year-old man is recovering after being shot in the leg in west philadelphia. this happened just before 11:00 o'clock friday night at 55th and market. victim was rushed to presbyterian hospital with non-life threatening injuries. we're told detective found several shell casing at the the scene and so far no arrests. and now to the very latest on the amtrak tragedy cbs news is reporting engineer brandon bostian could face criminal charges if investigate thors find he was negligent in the crash of train 188. lawyers suggest charges under review range from third degree murder tore reckless endangerment. meantime funeral services were held friday for derek griffith, one of the eight people killed in the crash.

new this week that the terror group isis captured major iraqi town of ramadi is hard to accept for one south jersey veteran. he spent years fight to go secure that city. "eyewitness news" reporter steve paterson has his story. >> it the is frustrating. >> reporter: back when chris jamill o had helmet in his head and gun in his hand the mission in iraq was clear. >> give them the safety and give them the security they are looking for and give them the infrastructure we wanted to provide for them. >> reporter: the the sergeant was dereplied in 2004 assigned to oversee civilian projects in the city of ramadi a capitol in the an bar province where 13 hundred americans lost their lives. chris saw plenty of combat and knew many who lost their

were honored in the dedication ceremony on friday. johnson memorial park was rediscovered by a group of students from the urban promise school. the the students uncovered grave stones cleaning up that park. more than 120 civil yard veterans were buried a at that site. well, is there now a new fun, ain't active way to learn about our nation's history. new program launched on friday called once upon a nation. the it the brings you back to the revolutionary war with historical reinact. and theme tours. "eyewitness news" at rittenhouse square where continental soldiers, brought children and adults in the arm which muskets. the series of events runs all summer long. in jenkintown, montgomery county thousands took part in color day. check this out the the annual event dates back to 1937 wearing either red or blue competitors face off in various track and field events and it is just a school field day, the entire town gets involved in this. families are assigned a color when they move to jenkintown and generations of families

morning and is there a frost advisory until 8:00 this morning for carbon and monroe counties. farther north then that we have freeze warnings because it is just that cold outside there. but the warming trend will be here. right now we're in the high pressure centered and wind coming from the northwest and that is a cooler direction and that is why today we will start, well we won't start in the 70's but we will end up in the 70's. we will start this morning obviously in the 50's, but we will end up about 72 degrees, as this high moves further away we will start to pick up a air from another direction the the clockwise, circulation, that brings it up, so that tomorrow, we're in the 80 ease, probably right around 80 degrees but still lots of sunshine and then monday as a warm front comes through we are at 85 degrees, that is warmest and most muggy of the three day holiday but it looks like it is staying dry in just about every location, even on monday. future weather no problems, here. whatsoever. we will go through noon and we have got sunshine, full day of sunshine. by the time we will get to

5:00 p.m. we are still looking at sunshine. the as we go through tonight we've got clear skies tomorrow by noon, and then, still clear skies and in rain around here. this is ideal. 5:00 p.m. on sunday, still clear skies and then no rain, and then by the time we will get to monday a couple of cloud, and it is not that we don't need a little bit of rain around here but we're not getting this it this weekend and if this skips us, it might as well skip us on holiday weekend. by tuesday we are looking at fairly nice weather but it starts to warm up every single day. the ocean temperature just in case you are tempt todd put your toes in. let's average it out around 60 degrees or so for the the ocean temperatures, over the the next day or so. seventy-two in philadelphia. sixty-four at the shore. poconos, 65 degrees. we've got temperatures, that were in the 60's yesterday at the shore. they will be in the 60's again at a the the shore it the looks very, very nice. anywhere between 70, 72 degrees on inland temperatures, cooler at the shore, 50 tonight. clear skies. next couple of days notice

>> reporter: it feels chilly but i don't think it gets much better then this. just moments ago we saw dolphins out here in the water. pretty calm. but absolutely gorgeous. we had a great sunrise over the water going over the boardwalk this morning. the we are at eighth street in ocean city where they are getting ready for the memorial day beach challenge. there will be about 500 people out here, soon, all raising money for veterans groups. i am here with beck hoy will walk us through lot of people use memorial take weekend as an excuse to relax but people coming out here will not be doing that, right. >> no relaxation today, we will be doing a stand up paddle ocean challenge a stand a obstacle course and we will have a kid fun run 7:30 a.m. we start with the opening ceremonies which will take place on the other side of the musicpy ier at ninth street coastguard auxiliary flag unit that will come with the presentation of the flag and at 8:00 we will start the obstacle course for the adults in the san. elite racers first and then they will continue on for probably about an hour, hour

and a half and on the eighth street side we will have a stan up paddle board ocean challenge, the the ocean challenge consists of 4-mile of ocean paddling, in between each mile they will beach their board and do some obstacles. run some tires up and down san dunes, do push-ups and grab their board and back out in the water. it is looking like a great event. we are expecting 40 paddlers and over four hundred in the obstacle. >> i have done stand up path will board before. i assume people will have done the same before any expectation, anybody falling in it is kind of chilly. >> weather looks great but water is a little bit chilly but wind are perfect today. you can see they are pretty flat, calm conditions. so we don't expect too many falls. everybody gets their race mode on so hopefully the legs are all jittered up and good to go. i don't expect too many falls. >> reporter: there are worse things in the world than falling in the water today.

>> although mr. wint is now incarcerated and held without one, our work is not yet done. >> reporter: investigators believe wint may not have act add loan when he held the savopoulos family and their housekeeper hostage for at least 18 hours last week. a according to court papers, ten year-old philip savopoulos died alone in a bedroom in his family home stabbed and burn by a fire started in his room. his father, salvees, his mother amy and housekeeper vera figueroa were found in another room having died from blunt force and sharp force injuries. defense argued against holding wint without one saying in witnesses had identified him but prosecutors pointed to dna evidence. the police say they matched wint's dna to a unfinished slice of pizza found at savopoulos home. court paper says amy savopoulos called local come minute necessities and hat pizzas left on the front doorsteps. prosecutors say savopoulos had employees, withdraw $40,000 from his company, american

ironworks and leave the money outside the home. the wint used to work for american ironworks. craig boswell for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> 6:38. a philadelphia teen will plead guilty in connection with the hit and run that critically injured a temple student athlete. eighteen year-old rayshawn roberts waved his preliminary hearing and will go to trial. roberts surrendered to police shortly after the accident. investigators say he hit 22-year old rachel hall as she was riding her bike near temple's campus april 29th and then took off. roberts only had a learners permit. hall remains unconscious at temple university hospital. the man convicted in the 2001 murder of washington d.c. intern sandra levy will now get a a new trial. case first drew national headlines because of the levy's affair with then congressman gary condit. reporter adrian more, spoke to reporters. >> there is not a day we don't think about her.

that is it over the area. we have beautiful conditions, but chilly ones, in the north in the poconos carbon, monroe counties until 8:00 o'clock this morning. is there a frost advisory, on our, unofficial start to the holiday season of the summer. fifty-one in philadelphia 47 in millville. fifty in dover. 54 degrees in wildwood this morning. cooler start finish of the day, a little cooler too and around 70 to 72 degrees today inland, high pressure is here and then tomorrow high pressure is still here but it is in a different position and that brings our temperatures up to 80 degrees and it keeps moving and it send up a warm front. by the time we get to monday the warmest of the three day each day gets warmer and then monday at 85 will be the warmest day of the three holidays temperature days, but, by the the time we will get to tuesday it is warmer then. that so, expect to find some heat, coming in here, dew points, look at these last time i showed you this they were in the 30's. they will continue to drop. this is very dry air.

if you've got any kind of outdoor plans with anything that is at a match or a light or anything, be really careful just because the air mass is so dry. our feature weather what do we see? we will see as far out as we can look. i see clear skies. i see them right the through 6:00 o'clock tonight. i see them at 1:00 o'clock tomorrow have afternoon, and then 6:00 o'clock tomorrow night, but by the time we will get to mob a couple of cloud may be passing by. partly sunny conditions on monday and then on tuesday we're probably back with more sunshine and even then higher temperatures then on monday. so enjoy this, if you like to cool down, you can do that by putting your toe, your elbow or some body part in the water. right now about 60 degrees right along the the atlantic coast over most of the new jersey and delaware shorelines. and uv index stephanie's story was so good about putting on the sun screen. you will need it not just at the shore as we see these index getting high, higher more dangerous that will be inland too.
