epic storms pound the southwest for another day. the historic weather system leaving more than a dozen people dead, and this morning the search continues for 11 more who were missing. >> we all know and we have accepted that they're gone. >> soccer scandal. shock waves are september through the sport overnight as six high ranking officials, some from soccer's governing body are arrested and will be charged in the united states with corruption. the irs says cyber criminals have accessed information from more than 100,000 to make phony tax claims and gain refunds. and the return of the king.

in his first year back with cleveland, lebron james leads the cavaliers to the nba finals. captioning funded by cbs this is the "cbs morning news" for wednesday, may 27th 2015. good morning. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. recovery efforts are under way in this morning following historic and flood-producing rains but more wet weather is under way. the southern and central plains remain under a severe weather threat. parts of texas remain under a thunderstorm and flood warping. houston got slammed with almost a foot of rain yesterday, most within a six-hour period. much of the city was paralyzed. houston's mayor said more than a thousand businesses and homes were significantly damaged. city officials say they've never seen anything like it.

and at least 17 people were killed in texas and oklahoma since the storms began on friday. the search continues for 11 people still missing including a group advantaged when their vacation home was swept away by a swollen river. in houston 125 cars and trucks were abandoned by drivers seeking higher ground. and some of the worst flooding was in wimberley northeast of san antonio. chris martinez was there. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. just to give you an idea how powerful the floodwaters were behind me you see these that were carried. this is really the type of damage we're seeing all across the town. for parts of texas it's deja vu all over again. heavy rain came down in buckets late into the night quickly filling up on roadways bringing to mind scenes from houston. the state's fourth largest city was hammered by more than 11

inches of rain unearthing this casket, submerging highways and damaging thousands of homes and businesses. at least five people died including this man's 66-year-old father. >> he was helping himself get out of trulk and helping another lady get out of trouble. that's the kind of person he is. >> reporter: here in the devastated town of wimberley, people are starting to clean up after floodwaters from the blanco river damaged or destroyed thousands of homes. carlos cortez his wife young son, and the family dog were all air lifted to a roof to safety. fighting back tears, they thanked rescue workers for saving their lives. >> the one who rescued me he was my hero. >> reporter: heysays county officials say 11 are missing in the area including a mother and her two children. >> she called me. she said i'm in the house, i'm floating down the river.

>> reporter: they want residents to be aware of rising water and listen to rising water. >> nobody allowed outside of their homes. that's because sheriff's deputies are telling me they're very concerned about crime. they say they have already arrested a couple of people for looting. anne-marie back to you. >> chris martinez. thank you, chris. also some rough weather in oklahoma. a tornado tumbled down yesterday, but there are no reports of injury or property damage, but this twister that touched down in a shopping mall parking lot in dayton ohio overturned numerous cars. two people suffered minor injuries. lar larry mowry has more. these storms will continue to drift southward as we go through

the overnight hours. it covers much of western oklahoma and from the dallas-ft. worth area back into the texas panhandle and the far western parts of kansas. so, again, another round of storms expected during the afternoon and evening on wednesday. i can show you that hour by hour. as we go through the morning into the afternoon there will be thunderstorms that develop through east texas, back through mississippi and alabama and stormy weather as we head into the afternoon by wednesday. and then wednesday evening more storms develop in oklahoma and then as we go into thursday morning, another round of thunderstorms for the north texas area including dallas and fort worth. and then houston sees more heavy rain by the time we get to thursday afternoon. that includes back toward san antonio. it doesn't end here in texas with the rain continues to fall. same in oklahoma and all the way through this weekend. the potential is there for five to seven inches of rain. just a stormy week ahead all through the upcoming weekend. i'm meteorologist larry mowry,

cbs news. six fishlts were arrested on corruption including bribes and kickbacks totaling millions of dollars. the suspects incleaning fifa's leading governing body and they were taken into custody at the request of the u.s. don champion is here with more on that. good morning, don. >> good morning, anne-marie. an author who once wrote a zbik about fifa said bribery and thievery go together like peanut butter and jelly. this goes back to the 1990s. six top fifa officials were arrested at a luxury hotel in zurich. the officials are in switzerland for the fifa conference and presidential election. the arrested are accused of taking bribes worth more than $100 million through u.s. banks. cbs news can confirm justice

didn't officials are expected to release the indictment this morning and the press conference will be held later today. it is important to know a fifa spokesman seth bladder is not among the people arrested. he is expected to win a fifth term this week at the top of the organization and all the officials arrested will be extradited here to the united states. anne-marie? >> all right. don champion here in new york. thank you very much. there are new tensions between the u.s. and china over a dispute in the south china sea. china has overlapping claims with o'nations for the spratly islands. on tuesday they announced its boosted reach and its air defense will switch from defense to offense. and now to the trial of accused colorado theater gunman james holmes. holmes sent a notebook to a psychiatrist shortly before the attack back in 2012. in it he wrote about his broken mind and detailed his plans to

they used an irs system in order to allow people to get information from past. the irs has launch add criminal investigation. wall street's looking for rebound today after suffering its worst day in three weeks. the dow lost 190 points yesterday, the s&p finished 21 points lower and the nasdaq fell 61 points. time warner cable stocks saw yesterday's trend rising 7% after the company agreed to be acquired by charter communications. the deal would create one of the largest tv and enter net providers in the u.s., but the agreement still must be approved by the fcc. earlier this year they resisted regulations to take over time warner. taco bell restaurants are revamping their ingredients.
