we begin tonight with an "eyewitness news" exclusive a warning for fire fighters, only cbs-3 has obtained a memo over safety concerns, sent to members of the philadelphia fire department, warnings surrounds the department's fleet of trucks. good evening i'm chris may. i'm jessica dean. this story is "eyewitness news" has been following for months now but blank new details are shedding light on safety concerns. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers is live from fire department headquarters with the the exclusive details matt. >> reporter: chris and jessica, this is a story "eyewitness news" has been on top of for some time now and yet all of the fire fighters with whom we have consistently spoke about this issue say there remains serious concerns on their part with the status of the fire department's fleet and that union official say is a danger not only to those fire fighters but also the citizens of philadelphia to whom those fire fighters are sworn to protect. the this past saturday engine

45's brakes go out while driving. the its driver pulling the emergency brake to get it stopped and then towed away. eight hours earlier medic unit from the same firehouse is towed away, unusable after transmission problems, both incidents captured on video and given to "eyewitness news". on may 22nd a philadelphia truck enforcement police officer tells officials that this firehouse, one of their engines is unusable. its tire suspect to blow out at any moment. sources that told "eyewitness news" about those problems say they are merely symptoms of the department wide issue. fire trucks and medic units all in break down too often. fire fighter union president joe shule agrees. >> the condition of the fleet has never been this bad. >> reporter: the union provided us with two months of maintenance record from july to september of last year. during that 60 day period individual fire trucks and medic units were placed out of service 56 times due to mechanical problems. shule says sometimes fire fighters don't even report all of the issues. >> even if a front line

apparatus their main truck has deficiencies, they hold on to it because they know reserve truck that they will get is probably in worse condition. >> reporter: it is as a result of the aging fire department fleet one that regularly uses vehicles like this one with 250,000 miles on it. all hard, city miles. photos given to "eyewitness news" show exposed engine wiring and heavy rust, cracks. only solution here is for the city to buy new vehicles, easier said than done. >> we recognize it is just not a solution overnight you just can't go to the dealership and get ten new trucks to bring them in. >> reporter: city's fleet department has requested seven million-dollar to buy new equipment next year, a start but that budget has to get approved from city council. one fire engine alone can cost over $500,000. the union to send out a late afternoon e a mail to members warning them about the safety of this fleet and saying a apply the the brakes on your

3 inches of rain and it continues to flood there. as far as we're concerned here in sea isle right now sunnies still out the but it is chilly. our temperature according to the mobile weather lab only 64 degrees. ocean water temperatures in the 50's. so it will stay cool here. take a look at storm scan , we do have a isolated storm that has popped autopsy long the border of delaware county and philadelphia county. some showers interior south jersey, so they could be moving toward our shore points. we are cool with the air more stable here along the shore but look at that in ocean county a lightening and heavy rain in toms river route 37 is flooded in many locations and, of course, we have heard of those water rescues. you can see through stafford, even heading toward harvey cedars along lbi some heavy rain as it this is pushing toward the the south on route nine. big problems in ocean county. flash flood warning in effect including toms river ocean gate laviolette, forked river and that is until 7:45 this

news" reporter diana rocco live in radnor where police just held a news conference, diana. >> reporter: we have just learned a few moments ago that paul curtis is a 26 year-old, from media, he is now in police custody and being held at a correctional institute in delaware county for harassing two women in two separate attacks over the last couple of days. police are putting his picture out there tonight. i believe we have his picture. they want to get it out there so in case someone else recognizes him. they do believe he has more victims. here's what we know. on tuesday an 18 year-old female was jogging on a trail here in radnor and she was approached by the suspect curtis and slapped on her behind. he then ran a away and she went to police. it happened on wednesday not 24 hearst later a similar incident happened, in media media police were able to apprehend curtis shortly after that incident, and after talking to media radnor

police realize that had they were dealing with the same man. so they are now putting his picture out there tonight hoping somebody else recognizes him because they do believe he may have more victims. he has been charged with aggravated assault indecent assault and harassment. they also say that he is known to them on alcohol-related offences in the past. that is very latest from radnor tonight i'm diana rocco for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thank you. brand new video just in as search continues for an alleged sexual predator in south philadelphia. a search warrant execute today at this home on the 1300 block of chadwick street turned up empty. police are hoping a $10,000 reward and clear surveillance pictures can lead them to the suspect. "eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhry is live in the neighborhood with new information tonight syma? >> reporter: that is right, guess contact police executed a search warrant on the 1300 block of chadwick street which is a little more than half mile from where the sexual

assault took place behind me here on rosewood street. police did not find a person of interest a and in arrests have been made which is why they are hoping newly released images will help identify this suspect. >> if you believe, you know this individual, all we need that is tip. >> reporter: police are hoping neighbors in point breeze will recognize this man and get him off of the streets before he strikes a third time. >> he does it again, kills somebody or somebody will kill him, he might in the get lucky next time. >> reporter: this man of sexually assaulting a victim's home twice in the span of an hour. it happened early monday morning on the 1800 block of rosewood street. police say he first entered the victim's home to steel her car and then leave it just a few blocks away, seen in this surveillance video. >> there is the possibility that he was in the property, left the property and then return to actually confront our victim. >> reporter: that is when police say he demanded money and then sexually assaulted

next generation of patco train cars were unveiled atwood crest patco station in cherry hill. new trains will have enhanced safety features that use cutting edge braking and emergency technology. it is all part of the 194 million-dollar project that is funded in part by the federal

government and upgrading safety features the new trains have video audio station a announcements as well as brand new seats. today in burlington county, new jersey governor chris christie called for an end to the common core academic standard in his state. governor christie discussed education at burlington county college in pemberton. national standard has brought confusion and frustration for parents and classrooms. it is also a growing issue in the republican presidential race, and governor christie is a a potential candidate. he a said that common core is simply not working. >> when we are getting the job done for our children but we need to do something different. every commissioner need lead are ship. i'm asking the department of education to convene teams of new jersey educators and parents to conduct a point by point review of the new jersey previous state standard and consider recommending change that he is make our standard higher and new jersey based. >> the governor says that review will be completed by

in the 50's, and this on shore flow is keeping us very cool, and it is a cool sea breeze indeed. one thing sea isle has is a great beach. other thing great eats. we will talk about that coming up. but first lets talk about the the weather. on storm scan three we have showers that are popping up, especially through south jersey, and some heavy rain that was in ocean county, sticking to the south. that is the good news. you can see as we take a closer zoom in near philadelphia, we have a cell just to the west of the city and that is moving toward the city, south street seeing on heavy rain and south philadelphia as well. these slowly will be coming to an even as we lose daytime heating. what a difference though, for some miles make about 60 miles in the city, 89 the high. sea isle only 69 degrees, so, we're talking about a 20-degree difference in temperatures. you cane mostly sunny tomorrow temperatures in the 80's, at day a front approaches muggy but not
