breaking right now at 11:00 beau biden former delaware attorney general and son of vice president joe biden, has just passed away. good evening everyone, i'm todd quinones. natasha has the night off. the white house confirmed beau biden's death just about an hour ago, "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers is live in the sat center more. matt? >> todd, tonight the governor of delaware has ordered flags to be flown at half state in his state after vice president wise end confirmed his son had died after battling brain

cancer. biden had been hospitalized earlier this month at walter reed national military medical center just outside of washington d.c. at the time, the vice president's offers declined to say why he had been hospitalized. the former delaware attorney general had battled health issues for several years in 2010, he suffered a mild stroke, and underwent surgery in 2013 to roof mow what officials at the time called a small brain lesion. in a statement tonight vice president wrote of his son more than his professional accomplishment, he measured himself as a husband father, son, and brother. his absolute sean or made him a role model for our family, in the words of the biden family, he was the finest man any of us have ever known. president obama released statement shortly thereafter saying he took after joe. he studied the law like his dad, choosing the same law school. he chase add life of public

anthony raspa was killed and his partner injured in a car crash in upper freehold township monmouth county. >> both troopers, rap a and hung stationed here at the state police barracks in hamilton. driving the patrol calf when it went off the road outside of trenton just about 12:45 when the pair were on routine patrol driving along i-95. that's when police say a deer darted into the roadway colliding with the patrol car and forcing it off the road. it slammed into several trees before coming to a stop. >> the damage to the trooper car was catostrophic. believe the trooper was killed on impact. >> still taken to nearby hospital where doctors pronounced him dead short time later. his partner hung sustained cuts and bruises taken to the hospital but expected to be okay. >> it is one of those tragedies that fortunately we don't see very often. but when it strikes it strikes the whole entire state police

family. >> also hit home in his highland park neighborhood where he grew up. neighbors say he was friendly, happy young man thrilled to join the state police, just year and a half ago. >> i don't know what to say. it is just a lovely family. >> raspa family red today our family lost incredible son brother, grandson, brother person. phenominal young man with a heart of gold and a passion for life. >> and new tonight philadelphia detectives are investigating a police involved shooting in point breeze. it happened on the 1400 block of federal street at around 7:30. investigators say, a suspect fled a car stop on mat end street, and during a foot chase, pulled out a gun and pointed it at officers. the officers opened fire, but the suspect was not hit. he was arrested, though, a short time later.

>> now, turning our attention to the weather another beautiful night t looks like some storms could be in our future. meteorologist, justin bring bick, in the weather center with a first look at the forecast. >> that's right, a loft heat, humidity around, which will be helping to fuel more showers and storms, especially during the second half of sunday into the start of the upcoming work week. now we had few showers around tonight, specially far northwestern berks county up to northern monroe county, heavy rain dropped about 2 inches every rainfall in these spots. those showers have now moved out of the region, but because of that, flood advisory remains in effect until 12:30 sunday morning for northern monroe county. again, poor drainage flooding expected as the heavier shower had moved out. be careful of that. if you are driving in the poconos region. temperatures though, still very warm, it is muggy in the mid 70s this hour, near 70, at the atlantic city airport right along the immediate coastline little chill which temperatures in the 60s that's because of the wind right off the water that ocean water as that 61 degrees.

so waking up tomorrow morning we will have sunshine around, it is warm, mid 70s around 9:00. noontime into the first half of the afternoon should stay dry for most locations the exception will be the far north and west. it will be another warm one well to the 80s but then after 5:00 around the city have chance from few scattered showers, maybe even strong thunderstorm again key word here scattered. not everyone sees t another hot day. 8 degrees for the high temperature at the shore most of the day should stay dry there, poconos better shot to see the showers and storms with highs in the 70s i'll show you the seven day forecast, let you know we dry out coming up in a few minutes. >> justin, thank youment president obama signs disaster declaration for flood ravaged texas, that means aid will now funnel into the state but officials say the threat of bad weather isn't over. cbs news correspondent chris martinez has the latest. >> residents near houston dealt with another downpour saturday dallas area, more resident evacuated after new storm, through many areas of the north south and central

portions of texas the water keeps on rising. >> my biggest concern is, you know more rain. more bad news in this water logged state, an in dallas this major expressway could be closed for up to a week while crews pump water out. officials say it, could take up to a month for the water to recede in some areas. >> unbelievable. i mean, there is so much water, and, you know, just there is nothing we can do. volunteers are using sandbags in rural areas to keep rising waters from washing out roads. and crews are using technology, news and old to search for those still missing. president obama has signed a disaster declaration federal aid will start slowing into affect the areas soon. chris martinez, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". tonight, a 13 year old girl is fighting for her life after she was shot in philadelphia's kensington neighborhood.

"eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson talked to family members who are demanding the gunman turn himself in. >> stop worrying about being sniffles accurate. my neice needs a hero at this moment. >> when shots are fired in kensington heroes can be hard to find. >> she needs justice. she needs answers. she needs to know why when she was outside playing somebody through a bullet at her. >> aida says her hero is likely on this block. she believes someone here knows who pulled the trigger that put her neice in the emergency room. all she want is that person to step forward. >> i'm just hurting for the fact that nobody is standing up for her. >> police say shots were fired here, at about 11:30 friday night. aida's neice 13 year old diamond, and three other children, were sitting on a neighborhood porch when they heard a gun go off. diamond ran home, when she felt the stray bullet in her side. >> the second time i heard at this came outside. i seen people running. >> neighbor destiny heard the

shots from inside her home. police say at least two of the people witnesses saw fleeing had guns and were likely shooting at each other when diamond was caught in the crossfire. >> i was upset. like, this little girl, she don't do nothing wrong. >> police would later find nearly 20 shell casings on the gown, three cars, and at least one home struck by stray bullet. in with just one of those bullet teenage girl with so much life yet to live, is now fighting to survive. >> i have all of this anger inside of me. i want to scream. i want to do everything for my baby. i wish coy take that pain away from her but i can't. >> diamond remains in critical but stable condition. her family tells us that after a surgery friday night she is awake, and responsive, meanwhile, the search for who ever pulled the trigger continues. if you have any information you're asked to call police immediately. reporting from temple university hospital. i'm steve patterson cbs-3 "eyewitness news".

a man is critically wounded after shooting in southwest philadelphia. it happened shortly after 2:00 on the 6800 block of elmwood street. police say the victim is a man in his 20's, and he was shot in the side. he's at the hospital now. the gunman, however, is still on the loose. >> still to come tonight on "eyewitness news", a daughter of an nfl player who was treated here in philadelphia suffers a medical setback. the latest on the health of lea still. plus, a police car is almost hit by lightning. and it is ought caught on camera. find out where this close call happened. and in sport, one of the best goals you'll ever see by one of the greatest players on earth. leslie van arsdale has that highlight and a look at the phillies this afternoon. that's coming up in sport.

martin o'malley officially a presidential candidatement launched his campaign today before crowd of supporters in baltimore. back in 2008, o'malley a democrat endorsed hillary clinton for president. but now they're running against each other. and today o'malley took a shot at clinton and potential republican candidate, jeb bush. >> the presidency is not a crown to be passed back and forth by you between two royal families. it is a sacred trust. to be earned from the american people. and exercise dollars on behalf of the people of these united states. well o'malley served as maryland's governor from 2007 until january of this year. republican presidential candidate, carly fiorina brought to delaware today she contends government is tangling up people's lives, in webs of dependence. >> we now have a government that has become literally so

video, both strikes the bridge that the officer is driving over. it happened earlier this week. the officer says the the intense white light nearly blinded him. when he returned to the scene later he found chunk of burnt concrete with a lightning had struck. >> and nfl player and camden native, de von still is asking for prayers for his daughter lea had a setback in her fight against cancer. five year old girl went into the hospital may fifth to start the process of getting a stem cell transplant. on friday, still announced chemotherapy affected her liver. he said that doctors caught the problem early which was encouraging, she was diagnosed with cans area year ago doctors removed a tumor from her abdomen, and her cancer went into remission. >> dozens are uniting in the fight against breast cans they are weekend. the 11th annual asian american breast health event was held at the sheridan in center city today. susan g. komen philadelphia held workshops in 13

languages. for multiple generations of women in a community many also received free mammograms. >> justin joins us now with another look at weather the first part of this weekend is good. second part good but we end on bit of sour note? >> hot humid dealing with some showers some thunderstorms, but ever since memorial day boom, summertime weather, the trend temperatures again today upper 80s, even some nine the degrees in some spots, again late tomorrow, our next shot for some needed rain across the region, but pretty comfortable tonight or quiet i should say we take you outside, look at center city from our roof camera. all is quiet. just few fair weather clouds, still on the humid side, very warm temperatures still in the 70s but rain, non-existent this month. check it out. since may 1st over 3 and a half inches below average rainfall for allentown over three and quarter inches for trenton, philadelphia, over two and quarter inches below average in wilmington, as well.

under the gun there about 1.28 inches from where we should be, for this time in the month. temperatures here, mid 70s look at that very muggy outside, 76 reading, 69 month pocono upper 60s at the shore, sitting in a lot of humidity right now we look at the dew point temperatures, this number tells us how much moisture is in the air. once you're above 60 degrees, starts to feel humid. when you're around 70, it will feel oppressive. casino of inbetween steamy air mass sticks around again for the next couple every days. because that far we are feeling the showers and storms. actual cool front still well to our west over the ohio valley. very slow moving front. so looks like at least first half of the day tomorrow should be dry. later tomorrow night into monday, best shot to see wet weather. couple of showers still possible in the poconos through the overnight but the main event really later sunday night, through the day monday. reason the front very slow, gets in here later tomorrow evening. watch out for the increased threat for scattered showers and storm especially, late

afternoon into the evening getting key word scattered not everyone sees it, then the front kind of stalls over us monday our best day to see some needed rain across the delaware valley, and there could be some pocket of heavy rain, with localized flooding if you get stuck in one of the heavier showers or thunderstorms, even tuesday still the threat for some showers around specially through the first half of the day. until that front finally exits the region. all right so, tomorrow morning, waking up mainly dry, some clouds, little sunshine, into the early afternoon hours best shot to see the showers and storms would be across the lehigh valley in the poconos, then you get to the evening, some of the showers and storms track little farther south and east. but looks like most of delaware south jersey, stays dry, through much of the day on sunday. and then monday there you seymour widespread coverage of some showers some storms, as the front stalls out over the region. again later sunday watch out for scattered storms, could be some downpours gusty winds some localized flooding, because a lot of humidity in the air. you can feel t it will help fuel the heavy rain.
