thanks for joining us. a flash flood warning is in effect for the poconos. let's get right over to meteorologist justin drabick. he has more on what we can expect as we go throughout the evening. justin. >> all right, good evening natasha. we do need some rain across the region but you don't want to see flash flood situations any time even if you're in that drought situation. showers and storms mainly across the far northwestern viewing area so northern lehigh valley, northern berks county, up into the poconos. that's where they're confined. into monday storms should start to move south and east. we're okay around philadelphia, south jersey and delaware but different story again just north of allentown into carbon and monroe county. you can see some strong to even severe thunderstorms. this one moving through schuylkill county right now so it will be heading towards the poconos probably in another half hour to an hour. they're slow moving so they have a lot of rainfall with it. you can see the lightning strikes. that's why we have a flash flood situation. storms moving only about 15 miles per hour so they're dropping rainfall rates anywhere from about one to

2 inches or so. so carbon, monroe county under a flash flood warning until 11:45 tonight. keep that in mind if you're traveling into that region and a flash flood watch remains until 2:00 a.m. on monday morning. here's what to expect tonight through monday scattered gusty showers and thunderstorms so watch out for localized downpours. could see some rain amounts anywhere if about one to 3 inches so that could lead to some possible street flooding. temperatures right now we're warm. it's very humid and that's what's helping to fuel these showers and storms. i'll break down what to expect for the rest of the week in a few minutes. natasha. >> thank you justin. stay one step ahead of severe weather by downloading the cbsphilly weather app. track live radar get weather alerts and more. it's free and available on itunes and google play. also tonight tributes are pouring in following the death of beau biden. the former delaware attorney general and son of vice president joe biden passed away on saturday after battling brain cancer.

funeral arrangements still pending. in a statement the vice president calls his son beau biden "the finest man any of us have ever known" and today out of respect for the biden family president obama canceled a scheduled event at the white house. let's turn now to "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson, he's live in the cbs3 sat center. steve, so you did speak to those who knew beau bride haven't very well. i spoke to several prominent political leaders all who knew the biden family on a personal level, all who echo the vice president's sentiments. below biden willsentiments beau biden will be missed. >> reporter: before he was attorney general as a young man they called him the sheriff. >> he was called the sheriff because he was always the guy that was supposed to kind of watch out for the other kids. that was the designated driver. he didn't drink he didn't smoke. >> reporter: character that left an impression. former delaware state director for senate operations worked

for joe and with beau for years. he watched that perfect gentleman grow into a culpability leader. >> this is such a tragedy for delaware. he was so close to all of the people. >> reporter: saturday vice president joe biden announced his son 46-year-old beau biden died from a two year battle with brain cancer. beau the popular former two term attorney general in delaware was first a federal prosecutor in philadelphia. then a major in the army national guard deployed in 2008 for a year long tour of duty in iraq. in 2010 he suffered a mild stroke. before being diagnosed with cancer just three years later. >> we all know vice president is strong and he's no stranger to tragedy. >> reporter: this will be the second time joe biden is burying one of his children. in 1972 joe's wife and daughter were killed in a car accident. at just three years old, beau was seriously injured. new castle county executive tom gordon remembers calling his friend and then newly elected senator amtrak joe. >> he came home every day. he really did.

he drove that train home. he was with his kids. they never knew that he was in washington as a young man. >> reporter: many point to this along the biden legacy, perseverance through personal agony to make a better life for the next generation. many point to beau's legacy as tough but fair. a sheriff sworn to protect the first state. he was a perfect gentleman at all times. beau biden leaves behind a wife and two young children a son and a daughter. live in the sat center tonight, i'm steve patterson cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> steve, thank you so much. and like his father 46-year-old beau biden was a devout catholic and attended the wilmington church that has been the bedrock of the family for many years. cherri gregg from our sister station kyw news radio spoke with members of that parish today about the tragic loss. >> ♪ >> reporter: saint joseph's brandywine here on old church road is a small church in a small town. >> we all know each other republican, democrat

whatever, we all love each other. >> reporter: but it's home to beau biden a man many say had a big heart serving his state of delaware as attorney general, his country in the national guard and in iraq and all those who need a hand. >> i just can't fathom someone so young and so kind having passed. >> reporter: carol terranova says her five sons played with beau when they were children and were on the same little league teams. her husband, sam was the coach. >> it's just so sad. >> reporter: monsignor joseph redmond says beau and his wife attended regularly until several months ago when beau's health severely declined. >> we were praying for him. god brought him to a few other close calls. >> reporter: parishoners say the younger biden was quiet and unassuming and many times would meet the vice president here for mass.

monsignor redmond says that the biden family loved this church so much that they've already asked that this be beau's final resting place. the pastor says at least one family member has asked that beau be placed alongside his grandparents joseph and katherine and his mother and sister nealia and naomi who died in a car crash. the monsignor says faith got joe biden through that tragedy tragedy. >> the faith will get them through this. >> reporter: no doubt big faith born in a small church in a small state. cherri gregg for cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> many who knew beau biden are mourning his loss right now. delaware governor jack markell issued this statement: delaware senator tom carper meantime says beau represented all that is good about delaware and our

country. he was the complete package. bright, hard working incredibly loyal to his family a loving son brother husband and father principled, handsome, well spoken, unassuming. nearly three years ago to the day vice president joe biden spoke to surviving families of fallen military members. he spoke poignantly about grief getting emotional himself several times. >> by the tone of the phone call you just knew didn't you? you knew when they walked up the path, you knew when the call came, you knew. you just felt it in your bones. something bad happened. no parent should be predeceased by their son or daughter. i unfortunately had that experience too. >> it was 1972 that biden's first wife and his one-year-old daughter naomi died in a car crash. as we mentioned his two sons hunter and beau were both injured. biden was sworn into his first

term in the senate next to his son's hospital bed. stay with "eyewitness news" for continuing coverage of the death of beau biden. we will have updates for you on television and online at cbsphilly.com. 10 people meantime they're injured after a crane accident sunday morning in manhattan. police were called to the scene after the crane's pay load heading for the roof broke free somehow and fell to the ground. now, the crane dropped a large piece of equipment believed to be an industrial sized generator or air conditioner. it struck several buildings on the way down and it also fell onto a passing car. >> we, as i said, will do a full investigation to understand what happened here and to guard against anything like this in the future. >> none of the injuries are considered life-threatening. the mayor says the city is working to have the streets around that building reopened by the monday morning commute. also now officials in bucks county are trying to determine what caused a home to go up in flames in

john kerry is in the hospital tonight way broken leg. kerry crashed while riding his bicycle in france this morning. he was flown to a hospital in nearby geneva switzerland where he will stay overnight. the secretary's spokesman said paramedics an doctor were with kerry's motorcade when the crash happened. and today it marked the end of a wonderful career for a broadcast legend. >> and that's it for us today as i say goodbye for this last time as moderator of face the nation. i want you to meet all of the people who have worked so hard to make this broadcast what it is over years. here they are and i want all of you to take a bow. (applause). >> very sweet. bob schieffer welcomed his staff onset thanking them all and all of his viewers for their support throughout the years. the 78-year-old served as moderator of face the nation for 24 years but his journalism career spanned nearly six decades. he will certainly be missed.

starting next week cbs news political director john dickerson will be the new host of face the nation and you can watch right here on cbs3 every sunday morning at 10:30. all right justin is along with our forecast. a stormy night justin. >> it could be, yeah, even tomorrow at times. need tedneeded rain. it has the potential over the next 24 hours to be slow moving so watch out for the potential for heavy rain. still dry from philadelphia south into new jersey right now so we are wrapping up a nice finish to the weekend at shore. live look at ocean city right now, people taking advantage of the dry weather on the boardwalk. temperatures there going to be a little cooler near 70 so that a breeze off the chilly ocean which is at 58 degrees this hour. let's go to storm scan3. here's our setup. it's a frontal boundary that's moving very slowly so it's going to take its time to get here and you can see the showers and thunderstorms lined up along the front as it slowly moves off to the east and southeast and right now the front mainly up around the

pocono region so that's the focal point for the storms right now. we're seeing some slow moves. these are only going about 15 to 20 miles per hour to the northeast. they're dropping a lost rain. you can see some lightning strikes breaking out carbon and monroe county. that's the point to be concerned right now over the next few hours. everybody else stays dry. traveling north up the extension towards jim thorpe just about to get slammed with heavy steady rain, even some thunderstorms as well moving through. stronger storm moving out of schuylkill county. this continues to move north and east as well so this will impact carbon county probably in another half hour or so. again far northwest, lehigh valley, into the poconos next few hours best shot for storms. overnight into tomorrow these storms shift south and east. check out some of these doppler radar rain estimates so far today. you can see a lot of yellow and green showing up in the pocono region indicating one to already 2-inches from these storms so that's why the flash flood warning remains in effect for carbon and monroe counties. doesn't take a meteorologist to pick out where this front is. check out mount pocono, it's 65 but go south of the

poconos, look at that, mid 80's in philadelphia, 81 millville, 83 in wilmington, delaware it's 67 in scranton, 45 in buffalo so that's the dividing line with that front and it slowly sags southward and stalls over us tomorrow keeping the rain chances in our forecast. it's just so humid. that's what's helping to fuel these heavy rain showers. that's why we're seeing a lot of rain, those dewpoint temperatures are so high, typical for the middle of summer when we have dewpoints up around 70 degrees. this tells us there's a lost moisture in the air. does get better, though. still steam mee tomorrow. we'll have that humid feel to the air but you'll notice the difference on tuesday once that front passes. then it will be very pleasant for the middle of the week ensue wednesday and thursday. here's the setup. front comes through our region tomorrow, kind of hangs up across the region. off and on showers. doesn't rain all day. watch out for heavy thunderstorms at times. tuesday i think there's still some shower chances through the first half of the day. then finally we dry out. this sets up to see pleasant wednesday. we should see some sunshine with comfortable conditions with the low humidity.

now through about 10 o'clock most of the storm activity and rain across the lehigh valley. poconos maybe a shower gets into the city. through the overnight into tomorrow morning we start to see better chances for some showers and thunderstorms from the city on south and east. so this will slow down your morning commute on monday and again off and on showers will flare up once again and some thunderstorms monday afternoon. it continues into monday night. so again we'll have periods of rain at times and then we start to improve tuesday morning with less widespread showers. so, scattered storms around overnight, watch out for localize heavy rain. same deal tomorrow, showers and storms. temperature little cooler around 80 degrees for the afternoon high. the shore we might see a scattered shower or storm especially during the afternoon so some sunshine around during the morning. high 75. ocean is cold at 58 degrees. here's the extended forecast. he improving with morning showers tuesday 76. looks good for the middle of the week, mid 70's, comfortable, low humidity. by the end of the week back to the low 80's, maybe a shower or storm coming in on saturday. so, guys, your hair probably
