"eyewitness news". >> good morning, thank you for joining us, developing right now, offer duty police officer waiting for take out turns the tables on two robbery suspect. the officer changed gunfire with the would be robbers, killing one of them. "eyewitness news" reporter, jan carabeo joins us know at the scene in lawndale where the search continues for the one man that got away. jan, good morning. >> reporter: erika, ukee good morning, the crime scene unit, and fellow philadelphia police detectives, are still on the scene, this morning. processing evidence, the front window of rising sun pizza is now shattered, as a result of the gun fight last night. meantime police all around the city are still looking for one every two robbery suspect who got away. it was a late night food run that turned into a gun fight. off duty philadelphia police detective placed an order inside this lawndale pizza shop around 11:30 thursday night. only to then find himself

staring down the barrel of a gun. police say, two men had come in, and announced a robbery. >> at least one of them had a gun, he put the gun to the head of the off duty detective, and took $20 cash from the detective's hand. he ordered the detective to lay on the floor. >> as the suspect then turned to the pizza store owner and employee, police say that's when the detective took action. >> pulled his weapon, identified himself as a police officer, and then there was a gun battle. we know at least two shots were fired from the suspect at point blank range at the officer. >> the detective returned fire. police say he hit one of the suspect, in the side, as they both took off. one man police say likely in his 20's, was found dead if the parking lot. the second suspect, though, got away. and now shall as police collect evidence, both inside and out here in the 6900 block of rising sun avenue, they say they are extremely

grateful, that neither the detective, nor the store worker, suffer any injuries. >> the owner of this pizza shop and the employee are very fortunate, that there was off duty philadelphia police detective, inside the pizza shop at the time when this robbery took place. >> now, here on scene at rising sun and tyson avenue, you can see this whole area is still taped off. so you will have to detour around this. if you usually come through the area, meantime, police say these suspect both had hoods covering their faces so, it is hard to identify them at this point. and the man who died, and found in the parking lot he didn't have an i.d. on him. so they are work to go identify these people, this morning. however, they say they do have very good surveillance video, both outside and inside of this pizza shop that captured the entire incident. they are reviewing that surveillance video they may be release that to the public later today as well, as they continue to search for this second suspect. anyone with information of course should call police. reporting live in lawndale, jan carabeo cbs-3

"eyewitness news". jan, thank you. new this morning, the search is on for suspect, in a shooting in fairhill. it happened just after midnight along the 200 block of ontario street. police say a man was shot in the stomach and rushed to temple university hospital in critical condition. so far mr. is have no motive for the shooting. >> a viewing is set for this afternoon for former delaware attorney general, beau biden. yesterday, his body lay in honor at legislative hall in the state capitol of dover. biden died of brain cancer last saturday, he was 46. his father, vice president joe biden, and his family, stood next to the casket receiving condolances from mourners. >> he wanted to make their worlds better in delaware, and he did. he loved them. >> we the people of delaware love bo if possible even more. >> the viewing at saint anthony of rome and padua roam

still on the cool side. right now comfortably cool i would say but i have a little chill personally here out on the skydeck so extra layer definitely good idea, sweatshirt, fleece jacket, whatever you want. but certainly something else on top of what you are wearing for the day is definitely going to be good idea. later on today we do expect to start to brighten up northwest to southeast should allow us to rebound little more readily into the mid 70s as well. vittoria we send it into you. >> good morning everyone, we really are revving up rush hour. if you are traveling on 95, that's one of the biggest spots, for high volume, let's get outside take a look at what we are dealing with exactly. so here's a live look at 95 right around cottman avenue. throughout the construction zone that we are dealing with that squeeze, which is why every single lane just feels like that long lazy river of traffic out of the northeast. so that's what you are dealing with again out of the northeast down through to the vine street expressway. you will have breaks in some of the traffic but for the most part, speed censors dipping down into the 20's, and if you are traveling, in and around the malvern area,

202, the moving really well northbound southbound, so you have good news out toward the area of your western sub he is, traveling on 422, starting to build little bit of traffic around the area of trooper where we usually start but take a look, for get the 20's as i mention now down to 8 miles an hour. southbound on 95, still, in the 50's part of the schuylkill, but westbound right around city avenue, anticipate slight delay starting to form there in that usual pocket. fifty-five is your average on 95, delaware county, blue route still looking good. no delays for new jersey. few events this weekend we will be posting this on twitter, as well. so expect some closures on kelly drive also in manayunk, it will be crowded. erika? >> thank you torrey. happening today, two years since the center city billing collapse families gather to remember the victims. building demolition underway at 22nd and market streets when the structure collapsed on to the salvation army thrift store. it killed six people, and injured 14 other. there will be a memorial park on that site paid for by donations. the memorial will take place at 10:00 this morning.

>> well, happening today, two suspect in the abduction and robbery of jewelers row worker are due in court this afternoon. the bureau of alcohol tobacco and firearms has announced the arrest of them. investigators say, three men pulled the employee into a van, after she left work, on april 4th. they beat her dropped her off at a cemetery in darby township. >> these arrests hopefully will bring some measure of relief to the victim, to the business that these three men allegedly target the, to the business community, jewelers row in center city, and to the public at large. >> a third suspect, tyree gay, was arrested about a week after the abduction. >> well, china base hackers suspected of breaking into us government computer networks stealing information of at least 4 million federal workers. >> china is denying it, saying these allegations are irresponsible, and unscientific. cbs news core upon dent mark albert has more now from

washington, did. c. >> as many as 4 million current and former federal employees are wait to go see if chinese hackers listed their personal information right off the government computers. along with details about job assignment, and performance ratings. sources tell cbs news, some of the sensitive data might have been used in backgrounds and security clearance investigations. >> the federal government probably one of the largest employers in the world and to have that status system, to have that system breached, is really pretty incredible. >> federal investigators say the hackers left behind their cyber signature when they broke into networks, for the office of personal management, as well as the interior department. the information may have been south to make it harder to detect foreign spice in the u.s. a spokesman for the chinese embassy in washington, is calling the accusation irresponsible, and counter productive. officials believe employees from nearly every government

>> this plane skidded down the runway landing on its nose gear. headed from new mexico, to an airport in monmouth county. all five people on the plane escaped without getting hurt. investigators are trying to figure out why that nose gear did not work. we now know the identity of the suspect in a deadly stabbing in camden county. michael itell is the exboyfriend of carol bound

who was found un response enough her berlin driveway wednesday night. itell charged with first degree murder. authorities say that bound had a protection order against itell. >> and, check out this surveillance video here, camden county police need help finding the men wanted for torching that mini-van in the background there. they smashed a window, then set the van on fire. this happened monday night near the corner hive land and garden avenues. police are not sure if those men are also responsible for two other burned cars, in pennsauken, just few blocks away. right now, 13:00. we're hoping this gloomy week comes to an end. katie, what do you think? >> thumbs-up on that one erika. and i absolutely second that sentiment. because, i'm not crazy about this pattern either. so, you know, just the messenger on this one, i know it has been so dreary outside. does actually bring better news it comes to the drought status, the fact that we've had the wet werth specially from monday. meanwhile, here it is, the same pesky system, it is starting to retreat on its

we're following a developing story this morning. a deadly shooting involving an off-duty philadelphia police officer. it happened late last night at pizza shop on the 6900 block of rising sun avenue in lawndale. police say a detective was ordering take out when two men entered that store and announce add robbery. >> at least one of them had a gun, he put the gun to the head of the off duty detective. and took $20 cash from the detective's hand. he ordered the detective to lay on the floor while point ago gun to his head. >> a gun battle soon followed. the detective shot and killed one of those would be robbers the other escaped. the officer was not injured. >> mourners will gather this afternoon at the viewing for former delaware attorney general, beau biden.

"eyewitness news" reporter nicole brewer joins us at saint padua church in wilmington. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, ukee, erika no doubt somber day for the state of delaware, and our entire country. folks are expected to gather here, at saint anthony of paduea parish for two separate public viewings here at the church. the first from 1:00 to 4:00, the second from 6:00 to 9:00. tomorrow president owe obama a will hold the eulogy. yesterday was the first opportunity to pay our final respect toss bo bid never dover, inside senate chambers. >> nothing but the sound of heals on brick, as beau biden's body arrived in dover thursday entering the delaware state house, one last time. >> beau biden now of the ages. he and you have our eternal

gratitude. >> graped in the flag of the country he served he was remembered for his accomplishments as major in the national guard and former attorney general for the state of delaware. but, even more touching, were the personal tributes made to a loving husband father of two, and son, vice president joe biden. >> he was that casino of outgoing person who made it clear to everyone that they were the most important person in the room, not him. >> the man who dreamed of being delaware's governor was forced to withdraw from political life and focus on fighting for his own. a battle he ultimately lost to brain cancer on saturday. >> it is really heart breaking for him and his family. you know, the public shall everybody's really touched by this. >> on this day those sentiment were on display after gray skies flags flew at half staff as hundreds turned out some waiting for hours to pay their final respects. a big show of support in a small state that will continue to mourn the loss of a great

today. they are actually little bit more noted here on storm scan, as opposed to this same time yesterday. you have little more widespread coverage, but everything is still that said very spotty, if you know what i mean. if you look over philadelphia county, in fact, one little spec them shows upright on the words philadelphia. when you look out over the sit, at palmyra cove nature park here, over the delaware river, see the low-lying darker gray sky. so, we do have just couple of showers, it is a have i light rain that's falling generally even couple of speckles on the actual camera lens here in our live neighborhood network to indicate that even palmyra did pick up quick shower. so it is out there. it is spotty, and it is light. but it is out there. that said, i do think it is another day where could you frankly just get away without umbrella if your not crazy about carting one along with you for the day. going through the afternoon i do expect things will start to brighten up, northwest to southeast there is system is finally getting the boot. one final day every clouds, weekend turns so much nights

nicer. we are tracking more active pattern. so couple of additional cold front start to move our way as we lack ahead to the next seven days, vittoria, over to you. >> thank you so much. good morning everyone, so with some of the dampness that we have on the roads it will make things even slower this morning, you may have some low visibility in areas because some things little hazy. we start first with a look outside of the ben franklin bridge. even though the camera picking up some of the haziness, careful out there. if you are traveling on the ben, making your way into philadelphia, as you in the do have slow going as you make your way down toward eighth and vine. not seeing that big old back up down toward tolls just yet. but definately seeing some volume building. if you are traveling into new jersey, there is really no problems barely anyone out, there i would say. as we move now to the roosevelt boulevard the boulevard moving well, still however, as you commute southbound approaching the schuylkill, that's when things take a turn. all because on 76, we are seeing delays down to city avenue. starting to form the pocket. then it backs up on to the roosevelt boulevard. the rest of route one however, looks real great.

maybe headed out toward the trenton transit center. well, if that's where you are going, i do have note for you. the new jersey transit northeast corridor is now suspended, in both directions, between trenton and metro park. they are dealing with police activity there. we will continue to have more details. how much, the rest of mass transit is running on time. erika? >> torrey, thank you. new jersey assembly committee has passed a bill making up skirting a crime. up skirt something when someone takes revealing photos under a person's clothing. although such cases can currently be prosecuted under invasion of privacy statutes, lawmakers say up skirting gets specific ban like the ones in place in pennsylvania and pennsylvania and delawarement the legislation heads to vote in the full assembly. >> have you ever wanted to own a place down the shore? nearly 40 luxury condos are going up for auction in atlantic city.
