employees tell "eyewitness news" the 28-year-old driver is under arrest and he is also facing dui charges. tonight a high school football player fights for his life. he was riding his skateboard home from a friend's house when driver ran him over. good evening everyone, i'm natasha brown. thanks for joining us. the person behind the wheel did not stop in this case ton night police hope a clue left at the scene will help them track down the driver. the 17-year-old was hit just before 2:00 o'clock this morning on north hook road at lee avenue in pennsville salem county, new jersey. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson has more. >> reporter: sickening reality of what happened on hook road is marked by neon orange circles. >> it's devastating. >> reporter: sneaker hat keys all items scattered from a young man more than 100 feet from where police would mark impact. >> it's kind of hard for us to look at this and think that was our classmate that got hit. >> reporter: classmate amber johnson wanted to see the for herself.

she left feeling angry. >> i honestly think this person needs to go to prison forest of their life. you don't hit a kid and get away with it. >> reporter: police say that person struck 1784 old kyle and showed no sign of slowing down or stopping. it happened shortly before 2:00 sunday morning near hook road and lee avenue. police say the star athlete junior from pennsville memorial high school was riding his long board home when he was hit and rushed to the hospital in critical condition. >> very noise kid. very loved in school everyone loves him. >> kyle long life friend and neighbor ryan gray remembers getting the news. >> i was like, couldn't even swallow. like i felt sick to my stomach when i woke up. >> reporter: police believe the vehicle is a houndy elantra based on debris found at the scene. friends and family have no choice but to wait for answers and hope kyle comes back. >> he's the nicest kid i've ever met. >> police say they are searching for a hyundai elantra not sure of what color it is but they do say it will have significant front end damage. so if you know or see anything you're asked to call police

immediately. natasha classmates say they will be wearing blue gold to school tomorrow as a show of support and solidarity for their classmate. reporting from salem county steve patterson cbs3 "eyewitness news". well a father is calling his son a hero for saving both of their lives after a fire broke out in their pennsauken home. it happened on the 2300 block of fin law of a just before 3:00 o'clock this afternoon. "eyewitness news" spoke to the father who said that he was asleep t. at the time while his son was watching television. his son woke him up and that's when he noticed the smoke and flames. >> i wouldn't be here if it wasn't for my son. if he wouldn't have woke us up, who knows? we were right -- sleeping right in the back room right where the fire happened. >> alex says that most of their belongings were destroyed in the fire. and they plan to stay with family no one was injured luckily but the cause is still under investigation. now turning to our weather. it's about to get a little warmer for us but we're also

tracking the chance of storms as we head into yet another work week. meteorologist justin drabick live on the cbs3 sky deck with the first forecast. justin. >> natasha, feel real nice outside. we had break from the heat and humidity today. high temperatures actually a little bit below average. we made it to 77 degrees officially at philadelphia international airport. where we should be this time of year 80 degrees record high for this date 98. so we're not talking about record temperatures coming up but notice increase in the humidity as well as the heat. very nice outside keep the windows open if you want right now. save a few bucks on the electric bill and knock off that ac. in the low 60s in south jersey and central delaware. mid and upper 60s the farther north and west you are away from the coastline. there are the coastal temperatures breeze right off the chilly atlantic ocean. so we're talking upper 50s low 60s at the jersey shore and delaware beaches. again the air mass still very dry we look at the dew point temperature. they're in the low and mid 50s. that's nice for this time of year. once you're in the 60s that's when it starts to feel humid that change will start to occur

underway for two convicted killers they pulled off a stunning escape from new york's largest maximum security prison. cbs news correspondent henna daniels tells us there's now $100,000 reward for information leading to their capture. >> reporter: two convicted murderers are on the run after a daring weekend prison break. >> they could be literally anywhere. >> reporter: david sweat and richard matt escaped from the clinton correctional facility in upstate new york sometime between friday night and saturday morning. hundreds of officers are searching near the prison which is about 20 miles from the canadian border. sweat was serving a lifetime sentence without parole for killing a sheriff's deputy in 2002. matt was serving 25 years to life for kidnapping, killing and dismembering his former boss in 1997. prison officials say the men used power tools to bust through their cell wall. then they navigated a six-story high catwalk cut through a steal

pipes and emerged from nearby manhole. >> the governor says the sophisticated plan took awhile to execute. the convicts also left attaining note for investigators. allison davis lives across the street. >> how does this even happen? how could anybody let this happen? like just out? >> police in canada and mexico on high alert. matt was extradited back to the us from mexico after he broke out of a different prison on a burglary convict. both men are considered armed and extremely dangerous. hannah dan cells for cbs3 "eyewitness news". now the search is on for the gunman who shot a man at 16th and dave in fin in north physical. 48-year-old vick testimony won rounded around 5:30 this evening beat treagueed at temple university hospital and detectives are investigateing what led up to the shooting. also burlington township police say one person was seriously injured in motorcycle

this confrontation near dallas was caught on cell phone video. take look. officers were responding to a disturbance call when according to police they were met by multiple juveniles refuseing to leave. one officer force add young woman to the ground. then pulled his gun on a group trying to intervene. the officer then told her to put her face to the ground and later niels on her back. >> it's something we'll have to look into to determine, you know what we're training as far as the officers and their reaction on the scene. any time you confront a large group of people, it's very dynamic situation. >> police say they made one arrest and are not aware of any injuries. everyone else was releaseed to a parent or guardian. some very frightening moments for a 10-year-old little boy who was bitten by by a shark at a florida beach today. t worst bites they've seen in a very long time. the boy was visiting cocoa beach with his family when he got bit by a four to 5-foot long shark in waist deep water. witnesses say the boy suffered

at least two bites. >> the second big wave we saw what looked to be a juvenile bull shark. hit the dark gray with the black and the black tip. probably about 15 seconds later we saw a group of people in knee high water and we heard scream screaming. >> the boy suffered a severe bite on his lower right calf. emergency crews wrapped his leg and quickly air live lifted him to the hospital. his condition is unknown at this time. also park rangers at differ denali national park in alaska are warning visitors to stay away from a certain resident. take a look there in this picture in the background. that's a moose and he is apparently response al for hurting at least three people near a campground one of the vick testimony was seriously injured. rangers say the moose is protect protecting two newborn calves. now the international cycling classic return to the streets of philadelphia today. hundreds of spectators lined the course from manayunk to kelly drive to the schuylkill river reporter terry greg of our

sister station kyw news radio tells us the centerpiece of this event is the iconic manayunk wall. >> reporter: one of the most grueling sections of philadelphia bike race is this stretch of manayunk avenue. >> it's all about the wall. so that's about like a one to three minute effort report roar cyclists train all year to take on the wall with the men making the climb nine times and the women six. >> it's a very steep hill. i'm not a climbing rider. so i have so much respect for the people who can do this. >> reporter: steep curves and hills in this race as well as the easy access to top cyclists make it an american classic and fan favorite. >> there's no other sport where you can come um and get this many autograph, hat chat with them and actually feel like you're getting to know someone. >> reporter: one of the key features of this bike race of course is the cheering section. the voices the whistles the cow bells at a place where every bit

the week approaching 99 especially wednesday thursday into friday. so if you like hot weather wait a few more days. it's going get here. but right now nice keep the windows open. nice breeze outside. i was out on the sky deck. can't beat it. mid 60s in philadelphia. 62 in trenton. and in south jersey. 59 comfortable degrees in mount pocono. how is it going to feel this week? we'll start to bring up that humidity so it's going to be feeling steamy on monday as well as tuesday. that's going to help fuel some showers and thunderstorms. we'll catch a little bit of a break wednesday for the middle of the week but bite end of the week it looks like that humidity starts to crank up once again. right now we're dry on storm scan3 here's the setup. high pressure over us right now so that's keeping us dry just some clouds but notice the line of showers across the great lakes. strong thunderstorms breaking out just south of chicago in the ohio valley. that cluster of showers and storms is along a cold front that will be approaching our region later tomorrow afternoon. so the first half of the day on monday does stay dry. but you'll notice the difference

in the air mass it will feel much more humid as this warm front moves on through winds kick up out of the south brings in that moisture watch out for the late afternoon evening strong to severe thunderstorms possible in some spots. now tuesday the front starts to move on through but still it's close enough to bring another shower or storm. and it looks like humidity levels don't drop a whole lot once that front passes but we'll be back to mostly sunny conditions for the middle of the week. all right. let's talk about that severe threat mainly monday afternoon into monday evening. areas in yellow here. that's northwest of philadelphia that's a slight risk that's basically the second level of the category here. so this spot the yellow has a higher risk of seeing the severe storms than around philadelphia and points east we'll be under the marginal risk but still the threat is there but the chance will be north and west of the city. lehigh valley, berks county western chester county. all right. let's time it out for you. tomorrow morning waking up the commute looks good. just some sunshine and clouds. even into the first half of the afternoon no problems but once we get to about 3:00 o'clock

areas north and west we'll start to see those shower and storm chances return and it looks like for the city it looks like late afternoon into the evening hours even commute six 7:00 o'clock start to see stronger showers and storms move on through and here we go tuesday still not finish but the coverage of the showers will be much smaller scattered so not everybody sees it. we'll talk about those temperatures tomorrow morning waking up comfortable low and mid 60s we surge into the mid 80s for afternoon highs. kind of the same deal on tuesday. mid 80s once again. the exception right along the immediate coastline we'll be in the 70s. all right. pleasant overnight partly cloudy 63 for center city cooler in the suburbs. a warm monday, parly sunny late day showers and storms storms watch out for severe storm potential. at the shore dry the whole day. 76, the breeze kicks up, though. that's going to bring moderate threat for rip currents ocean water at sixty-seven here's the extended forecast. mid 80s monday and tuesday with some shower and storm chances. we'll get a break for the end of the week but just hot and humid

in the 11th annual katz jcc kids triathlon today.
