usa. the americans take down australia to start their hunt for usa's first women's world cup in 16 years. this is the cbs morning news for tuesday, june 9th, 2015. good morning, i'm anne-marie green. so far no sign of those two convicted murderers from escaped from a new york maximum-security prison. a massive manhunt continues at checkpoints near the prison but authorities admit the two men could be anywhere. and it appears the men had help pulling off their elaborate escape from the inside. >> reporter: new york officials are offering a reward for the killers' capture. now, the $100,000 question is where can these men be? authorities believe they could have crossed into canada or are in another state.

the manhunt for the men has now entered a fourth day. law enforcement officials have fanned out across the state and elsewhere, following hundreds of leads. cbs news has learned investigators are questioning a woman who worked at the clinton correctional facility in connection with the daring escape. >> disgusted. i can't believe it. >> reporter: steven's brother was murdered back in 2005. sweat was serving life without parole for the crime. >> i can't believe anybody helped them get out. >> reporter: matt was sentenced to 25 years for killing and dismembering his former boss in 1997. they used power walls to cut through metal pipes before exiting through a manhole three blocks away from the prison. >> our forensics investigation unit has recovered some limited cutting tools. we presume that perhaps more sophisticated tools may have

been used, but we did not recover sophisticated cutting tools. >> reporter: investigators say the 170-year-old prison and surrounding area had little if any, electronic surveillance. so far officials say there are no signs as to where the two escaped prisoners may be. according to the associated press, a report released in 2014 shows a pattern of brutality and racism at this prison. hena daniels for cbs news. former house speaker dennis hastert is due in federal court in chicago today. it will be hastert's first court appearance since an indictment said he agreed to pay $3.5 million to keep someone quiet about past misconduct. hastert is charged with violating banking laws and lying to the fbi. the associated press reports the payments were intended to conceal claims that hastert sexually molested someone decades ago. and the possibility of severe weather exists today from the northern plains to the northeast.

scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening across parts of the northeast, the upper midwest, and perhaps near the northern rockies. the potential exists for damaging winds and tornadoes in some areas. in northwest louisiana, the red river crested yesterday at just over 37 feet above flood stage. the highest since 1945. in shreveport hundreds of homes and businesses were flooded. officials warned some areas won't dry out for weeks. and it took just a few hours for a south carolina grand jury to indict a white former police officer in the shooting death of a black man who tried to flee a traffic stop. walter scott's family says it's very happy and pleased with the indictment of michael slager. cell phone video appears to show slager firing eight times at scott as he tried to run away last april. slager is charged with murder. >> a murder conviction carries

life in prison or a sentence between life and 30 years. if mr. slager were to be convicted and he were sentenced somewhere between 30 and life he would have to do every day of that sentence. there is no parole. >> slager says he tried to stun scott and fired in self-defense. today the senate homeland security and governmental affairs committee holds a hearing on the tsa. another potentially dangerous security gap is likely to top the agenda. the issue, how the tsa vets applicants for airport security credentials. a just-released homeland security agency report found the tsa failed to identify 73 aviation employees with links to terrorism. don champion is in new york with more. don, good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. the problem, the report found, the tsa does not have access to all terrorist watch lilsst data. all 73 have clearance badges.

they include airline employees, vendors and others with access to secure areas. now, the tsa is responsible for vetting every applicant for airport security credentials. the report found the vetting was generally effective but found thousands of records that were incomplete or inaccurate including those for 75,000 immigrants who did not list a passport number and 87,000 records without a social security number. the tsa says it expects to address the issue later this year. >> the balance tsa seeks every day and dhs seeks is how do you facilitate the free will of people with the best security and then using results such as this in a way that helps improve all of that. >> and, of course all of this comes as the tsa faces more scrutiny. last week, you may recall it was revealed that undercover agents were able to sneak mock explosives or weapons through tsa checkpoints 95% of the time.

anne-marie? >> don champion here in new york, thank you, don. new surveillance video shows the fatal shooting in boston of a man suspected of plotting to kill police. rahim is seen walking through a parking lot early in the morning on june 2nd. he's surrounded by six plainclothes officers who draw their weapons. police say two opens fire after rahim refused to drop a knife. he had been under surveillance and allegedly planned an attack on police and talked about beheading anti-muslim blogger pamela geller. president obama is home following the two-day g-7 summit in germany where he said training for iraqi forces battling isis must be stepped up. the president arrived at joint base andrews yesterday, speaking after the summit mr. obama said isis remains nimble aggressive and opportunistic and plans for defeating the terrorist group have stalled. >> we don't yet have a complete

strategy because it requires commitments on the part of the iraqis as well. >> the president says some fault lies with the iraqis. that there are sometimes more u.s. trainers than recruits. this morning, health officials are looking for people who came into contact with a patient who contracted a rare and deadly form of tuberculosis. in april, the woman traveled from india to the u.s. arriving at chicago's o'hare airport. she spent time in illinois missouri and tennessee before growing sick. she's hospitalized in stable condition. only three or four cases of the drug-resistant tb are reported each year in the u.s. and experts in south korea this morning say they believe the country's deadly outbreak of middle east respiratory syndrome may have peaked. more than 2,000 schools are closed, and those that are open children are wearing face masks to class and getting their temperatures checked. the outbreak killed at least

seven people since it started in may. and the coast guard says five people are safe this morning after being rescued from a plane crash off the bahamas. the cessna went down about nine miles southeast of nassau monday evening apparently due to engine trouble. about three hours later, a coast guard helicopter spotted their life raft. a bahamian crew carried the group to safety. this morning, allegiant air is investigating the safety of a plane forced to make an emergency landing. flight 864 took off from st. pete/clearwater airport monday bound for maryland. minutes later, the crew reported smoke in the cabin, and the pilot turned around. passengers say the scene was chaotic. >> it felt like there was a panic that kind of came on because then they screamed "evacuate, evacuate!" >> some passengers escaped down the wing others down emergency slides. three passengers and a crew member were injured. some pilots have said the

protesters gathered at a mckinney school. >> we want to send you a message. number one, we aren't having that kind of activity out of our police department here in mckinney. >> reporter: before marching to a neighborhood pool. >> what do we want? >> justice! >> reporter: that's where a white officer's takedown of a black teenage girl caught on video incited calls for repercussions. >> the one thing they can do is fire the officer. >> reporter: outside groups may have led the protest, but longtime mckinney residents like warren barnes say they are the people who need to be heard. >> i know i speak for a lot of different people that live here. i'm angry. i've been angry all day. but to be treated that way, i thank god it wasn't my son. >> reporter: about a half dozen other residents held signs nearby supporting police. >> we're just back in the police department. >> reporter: and officer eric casebolt's actions. >> absolutely ridiculous. at the end of the day, the children screwed up and they didn't listen to what the police officers said. >> reporter: at times it looked like the two sides might come to blows.

it allows users to stream any music in itunes without having to buy songs and download them. there are also customized playlists and recommendations. apple music will combine with a new round-the-clock streaming radio station hosted by live deejays called beats 1. >> a lot of people are already used to giving their credit card to apple. and with the service, it will just be built onto your iphone or ipad or your mac, you know you're just going to find it much easier to subscribe. >> reporter: apple music will be available later this month. apple also introduced upgrades to operating systems for macs iphones, ipads and apple watches. stocks here on wall street finished down again. airlines were some of the biggest losers amid fears that increased capacity may hurt profitability. the dow jones industrial fell nearly 83 points slipping into the red for the year. the s&p 500 was down 13 and the nasdaq composite finished 46 points lower. the obama administration says it will forgive federal

loans for students who attended corinthian colleges. corinnethian closed and filed for bankruptcy last month amid charges of fraud. if all corinthian students over the past five years apply for debt, it could cost taxpayers as much as $3.6 billion. and netflix's next big star is brad pitt. the streaming service announced that it's producing and distributing "war machine," a new movie that will star pitt. it's due to be released late next year. evens it 13 seconds later. with less than four minutes to play in regulation paquette scores for the lightning. tampa bay wins 3-2 and takes a 2-1 series lead. major rule changes go into effect for the upcoming college basketball. the ncaa is reducing the time on the shot clock for men's teams, five seconds will be shaved off from 35 to 30 seconds. teams will also have three second-half time-outs down from four. well cheating on china's college entrance exam has gotten so prevalent that officials are making sure they have a bird's-eye view of test takers. drone aircraft were used at two testing centers this weekend. the drones can detect signals sent to devices that were illegally smuggled into the tests by students. while this equipment has been used in the past to communicate with test takers the drone can't stop other forms of cheating, though which include hiring surrogate test takers.

the search is on for pigs that escaped in an ohio truck crash monday. a semi transporting more than 2,000 pigs turned over killing up to 400. others escaped into the woods. firefighters and police officers got help from volunteers collecting the piglets. they carried the animals by their hind legs into trucks. and a dangerous encounter between a television reporter and the woman she is covering. australian journalist alex burnhart was trying to interview a woman who was at court to support a murder suspect. that's when the woman, who was pushing a baby carriage stubbed out a cigarette on the woman's face. the woman has been charged with public nuisance. in south florida, engineers are trying to figure out how to save an artificial wreath

inspired by the statues on easter island. the installation of the wreath did not go as planned sunday. ted scouten of our miami station wfor reports. >> reporter: everyone was excited as the artificial wreath was about to sink to its new home. it was supposed to go down 70 feet below the surface off deerfield beach. then suddenly that excitement changed to disappointment. the barge flipped over as it was sinking, leaving it upside drown, breaking the largest, leaving it floating on the surface before finally sinking. >> you can see inside. you can see the statue is there. it's just the head. it's buried in the sand. some others not because of the head of the big structures that we made it for the environment used for the creatures and so on. >> reporter: he's one of the

brains behind the project. he and the others are now trying to figure out what to do. they have a couple of ideas. one is to simply flip it over. if that doesn't work cut large holes in the barge. >> we'll put up. ga big gaps in the top where the divers can go in and visit the barge, swim around safely and not have any entrapment. >> reporter: this was supposed to be an art and public places project. the idea was not only could divers swim around a unique piece of art, but it would attract marine life. already divers are swimming around getting a closer look but at least for now, the advice is to look from a distance. >> we've not advised any divers to go inside. we want to keep it a safe area. you can visit the dive site. you can swim around take pictures video, everything. for safety reasons, we don't want nobody to go inside to swim inside or do any kind of penetration. >> that was wfor's ted scouten
