after a night of downpours, lightning and gusty winds, the philadelphia region is bracing for more wet weather today. good morning, it is tuesday june 9th i'm erika von tiehl. >> i'm diana rocco in for ukee washington, also this morning developing now, a south jersey school steps up security, after someone phones in a threat. >> and after the amtrak tragedy in philadelphia, the claimed eight lives, new suggestions by railroad regulators hope to keep rales safer. more on that coming up in a moment. first, checking with katie with our forecast after very wet night. >> everything is it still covered in water, seems like we had quite nasty storm pass through here watch do you think, is that going to continue? >> we are going to end one

additional showers thunderstorms, guys, for now little activity which we'll show now second on storm scan, but things definitely still cloudy over the delaware valley, you can see it with the reflection off the city lights over the ben franklin bridge. there are again however still some pockets of some showers and even thunderstorms, that we've had just within the last couple of hours now looking back in time, if we consideration i want to take you back in time and show you some of the area storm reports that came in, polls taken down, wires came down, skippack reported just three quarter inch size hail. un come firmed in pottsville. ripe for severe storms, will we see it again? in short the answer is testimony inch i shall threat of severe weather for us here today. storm scan3, you can see still not in the clear. do you still have handful of showers rolling right now right across the kent and new castle county border, overnight the lehigh valley had another round every thunderstorms that's making quick retreat off toward

up-state new york, but there is more on the horizon for us here, as we are still awaiting this somewhat sluggish passage of this frontal boundary, so more on the way in terms of marginal risk though for those severe thunderstorms to fire up today. we're not talking anywhere near the severe weather threat still unfortunately here at the lowest risk at least for downpours gusty winds, possibly small size hail tornado threat nil here today. looking forward in the forecast for your tuesday, hot steamy day for you just maybe not as much instability to work with. since the atmosphere was little staff of that yesterday with all of the storms rum being through, but eight a degrees our anticipated high in the meantime so still warm, summer like, classic forecast for some summertime thunderstorms, justin, over to you. >> good morning, that's right, still a lot of humidity out there. you can feel it, at least not seeing any big areas of flooding concerns, roadways actually drying up. do have an accident 76 westbound, between university and south street, so the right lane block getting by here, but this will slow up little

bit over the next hour or two. hopefully we can get this cleaned up. good news for the vine street expressway, all of the rain canceled construction, so both directions are moving okay from broad to 76, but that will resume again tonight at 11:00. they will be closing down the westbound and eastbound lanes. area speeds being looking good all across the city right now even surrounding suburbs no problems on the blue route into new jersey, we go. 295. the turnpike, 55, four it, running at the speed limit at this hour. fire going on in abington, easton road hamilton avenue. so avoid that area. also, heads up down in elk township new jersey construction zone at route 55 southbound. that is 641 to route 553 the left lane, remains block until 6:00 this morning mass transit reporting no delays, that's look add your ride. back to you. >> developing right now, threatening phonecall against south jersey school has officials on high alert. the call into police last night prompting increased security at harrington middle school. >> this threat one of many made to schools recently in new jersey, and pennsylvania.

"eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo live this morning in mt. laurel, with details. good morning. >> reporter: diana, care, good morning, as you mentioned officials got that threaten phonecall right around 9:00 last night so police quickly searched this area, and the grounds here, as well as this middle school. they found no threat. but, as a precaution today police will be on scene all day long, and student and staff will be searched before entering the school. officials are asking that student only bring a central -- essential items in order to expedite the process. threat here at harrington middle school one of several made not only in new jersey yesterday, but in pennsylvania, as well, chopper three, over simmons elementary school in horsham yesterday morning. police say a threatening call was made to school main office there. nothing suspicious was found in the lockdown there lifted also montgomery county lockdown at hatboro horsham high school made to the district elementary school.

chopper three over the scene as police canvas the area. they found nothing again and classes resumed. back out here live, in mt. laurel, no other schools have been impacted by this threat. and of course, anyone with information about this threatening phonecall is asked to call police. we are reporting live, here, jan carabeo cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> jan, thank if you. meanwhile, fire broke out overnight in the elmwood section of the city. firefighters arrived to the storefront of ek dollar and grocery, that's at woodland avenue and gould street around 2:00 this morning. it was placed under control in about 20 minutes later. we're told there were no injuries. firefighters are now investigate the cause of that blaze. police are also investigating after a 28 year old man is shot multiple times in north philadelphia. authorities say he was dropped off at temple university hospital by a private vehicle and then that vehicle left the hospital. they believe the shooting took place at 11:00 and indianna avenue around midnight. that victim is currently in

stable condition. 4:35. federal regulators are recommending more speed signs following the deadly amtrak derailment in philadelphia. investigators believe speed played a role in the may 12th crash that killed eight people and injured 200 others. now, the federal raid road administration wants commuter railroad where they have sharp track curves and adjust automatic safety system to prevent trains from going too fast. >> fire investigators are trying to pinpoint what caused 20 homes to burn in mercer county officials say it happened as workers were repairing a roof on east state street in hamilton township. the fire grew to six alarms yesterday, the flames spread across the shared roof of the entire row of houses. no one there was hurt. >> police in new castle county delaware, are investigating a hate crime. someone etched a swastika and racial slur into suv park on denim avenue in claymont. police say that they believe the vandalism took place early

sunday morning. mayor green said she check her car after she noticed some of her flower pots were missing her husband's car was also vandalized. >> you would think in 2015 we still won't be going through this. >> it hurt because we get along with everybody in the neighborhood. >> authorities say this crime car ace felony charge. if you have any information you are asked to call police. >> a vigil is scheduled for this evening for a south jersey high school athlete injured in a hit-and-run. seventeen year old kyle was hit sunday morning on north hook road in pennsville. police say that zachary motorcycle donahue was the hit-and-run driver. investigators say, he used a relative's car cover to hide the damaged car there it is, he turned himself in yesterday, and is reportedly cooperating with authority. kyle was riding his skateboard when he was hit and suffered severe head injuries. >> devastate to go see him and the whole family just all

upset, and i'm just in shock seeing him like that. >> kyle is at christianna hospital in delaware his mother says that he is reacting now to light. pennsville memorial high school will hold vigil for his recovery tonight at 8:00. grand jury in south carolina has indicted a police officer for murder in the fatal shooting after man. video showed north charleston police officer michael slager firing eight times as walter scott, as he tried to run away on april 4th. the killing inflamed national debate about how black people are treated by white police officer. slager grew up in mt. laurel and graduated from lenape high school. >> raw emotion in mckinney texas when demonstrators demanded firing of white police officer after encounter mostly black group every teens at a pool party. cell phone video shows officer pushing teenage girl to the ground. the officer is on paid leave today. the texas aclu wants police to

release the 91 call. >> the manhunt for two convicted kill hostess caped from new york's largest maximum security press son now in it fourth day. david sweat and richard matt are on the run after pulling off their break out at the clinton correctional facility. the two men used power tools to cut through steel and brick. they then went through a maze of underground steam pipes and tunnels before they popped out after manhole and made a run for it. >> there is limited surveillance tape with the facility. we have take answer look, nothing has been fruitful at this time for our investigation. >> the prison is about 20 miles from the canadian border. officials say those men could be anywhere. >> 4:39 right now. there is much more to cover here on cbs-3 "eyewitness news". former house speaker dennis haster prepares to face a judge. >> cole hamels on the mound. he never lost his threads.

the second i went to bed it seems like last night really got a lot. >> absolutely, really start today fire up for us out there. thankfully it, looks as though the severe threat has diminished, not out of the woods yetment frontal boundary somewhat sluggish, crossing through our area, so will take little time. need to get through one more day, showers thunderstorms. >> not bad day? >> everything should be pretty scattered. not solid line of nasty storms like we saw yesterday. that's good news, we will still have to dodge couple every thunderstorms they could still have little gusto to them, shall we say, a lot of that energy got zapped yesterday with all of the storms that rumble through so yes, catching, i would call it, break for sure. but it is still a day that you want to definitely keep your ears perked if you are headed out and about here today. you can see wider zoom here, it is almost like there is three lines that are coming through. but, really, it is all just some moisture building up in advance of one larger frontal boundary, in fact, i'll zoom out one more time for you here. >> this front actually spinning all the way back, even back here, across the

dessert southwest. the moisture that was associated with blanca is actually starting to get drawn into this front. eventually that's going to produce some pretty heavy rain we think across the planes. but as far as we are concerned there is front just needs one more day before it will clear out. so going to be talking about scattered variety of showers thunderstorms today. again, marginal risk, in other words, lowest risk on the totem pole for severe weather. and our primary concern right now looks like gusty wind, downpour possibly some small size hail, but don't think that tornados will be concern today. looking forward to wednesday sunshine beautiful day thankfully minus the humidity here, but it is warm, talking upper 80s here, and then we start to heat up even more, should make very easy run for the low 90s thursday, and friday, for that matter, so, expect the scattered showers and thunder storms to be out there today. you know, not going to be deeing with the wet weather all day but it could happen at any time, i would suggest because it could drench you coming through at the right spot. clears skies later tonight

good morning, we're following a developing story right now, threats against another school. there will be a police presence today at harrington middle school in mt. laurel burlington county. this after police received a threat against that school. it is one every just many that received threats yesterday. police officers will check students' belongings before classes begin and remain on school grounds throughout the

day. >> twenty-eight year old man is stable at temple university hospital this morning after he was shot several times in north philadelphia. it happened around midnight at 11th and indianna. police are now investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting. >> and claymont, new castle county police are is her clinic for the vandals hatched swastika and racial slur into an s.u.v. they say the crime car ace felony charge. if you know anything about that vandalism, you are asked to contact the authorities. >> well, the time now 4:00 ooh. time for check of the business news. >> money watch's wendy gillette joins us from new york stock exchange, want to know what's happening on wall street. good morning. >> good morning diana erika stocks here on wall street finished down again. airlines were some of the biggest losers a mid fears that increased capacity may hurt profitability. the dow joins industrial fell nearly 83-point, slipping into the red for the year the s&p 500 down 13, and the nasdaq composite finish 46 points lower. diane, a err dismay.

right now, it is 4:53, and here's trafficking. >> good morning good news, most of the heavy rain has moved out still few areas of some scattered showers most of the roads are starting to dry up, so no flooded areas. ninety-five at cottman both directions looking good this morning, we have accident, though schuylkill westbound

at south street, again, this is taking out the right lane. so just go slow around this accident zone. flood they cleared up that. hopefully in the next hour or to hour. eastbound and westbound actually, open this morning all of the rain canceled construction. heads up tonight again 11:00 closing down the eastbound and westbound side from broad to 76. that will be through the rest of the week. all right kelly drive we do have some construction, out bound at hunting park avenue. right lane will be blocked. that's until july 10th for that construction project. if we do have house fire in southwest philadelphia, beaumont avenue between 56th and 57th street. small fire. avoid this area. the alternate is florence avenue. also, down in elk township watch out for construction route 55 south between 641 and route 553. now for the rest of the forecast, we send it over to katie. >> you said it justin, some scattered showers thunderstorms, still anticipating here today. still awaiting the full passage of this frontal boundary. so it doesn't look as though

the weather threat is greatly reduced here still potentially seeing thunderstorms fire up with little gust owe as the day goes on, at the moment, storm scan has emptied out somewhat. but you do still have couple of little pockets to track most notably the one moving right now, into salem county, new jersey, with some small pact. but some steady rain, within that. so this morning yes, it will be scattered in nature. that's really the story any time today. i would say take the umbrella you know, anything that fires up could still have plenty of moisture to work with, so it could douse you even briefly never want to get stuck right? meanwhile, while along the way, we'll see sunshine, industrial to dodge the scattered showers storms, even right up until early evening. so at the beach, it is not horrible beach day. but it is enough that outwent keep your ears perked if you hauer thunder head out taught boardwalk be maybe doing shopping along those lines generally speaking, we are expecting again bit of mixed bag here, that's region wide. not just at the shore really everywhere here today shower, thunderstorm could happen at any time. diana, back to you. >> thanks, katie. now, we will get a check of

brought down this tree on wissahickon avenue near carpenter lane in west mt. airy. crews have been working all night long to remove that tree after it landed on power lines. we're told that wissahickon avenue should reopen soon, justin will have the latest on that with your traffic report in one moment. first though, get ready for some sun and more storms today. bit of mixed bag. so will rain ruin your outdoor plans? >> katie in the weather center this morning. what can we expect in more of the same? >> i would say at least little bit more of the same. not going to be dealing with anywhere near the severe weather threat thankfully here today. we are still sitting in a marginal risk, for the potential maybe of some stronger thunderstorms but it shouldn't be anything like what we saw rumbling through here yesterday late in the day, where there were even not just as we saw in the video there some power lines pulled down but trees pulled down, even unconfirmed funnel cloud spotted. but rain amounts were definitely significant. even though things rolled through somewhat quickly we ended up with almost one and a half inches of rain in reading, pa,
