so, so sad. >> reporter: when referencing a stage actor outside the walnut street theater it is easy to hear word like this and think it business a performance but this is the real thing. >> my empathy my best wishes, my good health. >> reporter: these words are from theater ticket holder judy spiller meant for 68 year-old theater actor michael toner. >> he had an obligation to stop pull over and call 911 port. >> reporter: police say about 1:00 toner was struck near 11th and market by a hit and run driver. he was rush to the hospital in critical condition his left leg had to be amputated due to the severity of his injuries. police admit they have very little in the way of lead. no eyewitnesses, no video and unable to talk to toner because he is unconscious. >> we have nothing, that is why sometimes somebody might have saw something they might have heard something, the public has been good in the past giving us, information anonymous, so anything that would be helpful naturally would give us a call.

sunday p lisa less ted zachary mcdone a. well, the developing right now search is underway for this man, he is a suspect shot and killed a delivery driver in yeadon delaware county. it happened on a loading dock, in an industrial complex on baltimore avenue. police say that the gunman shot six three-year old thomas childs, as he loaded up his truck to make a delivery to new york city. >> i was overwhelmed with grief, an it was just so shocking to hear bit this morning, and coming down here, you know, and witnessing the whole thing. >> investigators believe this was a random act of violence. we will have much more on this story in a live report coming up tonight on "eyewitness news" at 6:00 o'clock. police looking for a suspect tonight who shot a man in west philadelphia and left the scene in the cab. chopper three over the scene at palm and augon street around noon time,

investigators say the suspect was riding in the cab when the cab stopped man got out shot the man on the street and then got back in the cab and then took off. it is unclear if the shooter is connect to the driver of that cab. we don't know the shooting of the victim is in stable condition condition. investigators are looking for work release offend her who escaped in wilmington, delaware today. chopper three over governor prince boulevard where 25 year-old isaiah a thompson escaped from the work crew from the plumber community correctional center. he has been serving sentence for an attempted carjacking. thompson is describe as a white male, 5 feet eight with blue eyes, and brown hair and anyone who has seen him or knows where he might be is urged to call police. uber drive is fired and after allegedly fondling himself in the back seat next to his passenger. whole ordeal was captured on cell phone video by that passenger. raising this reward. >> the money is significant for someone who has information and will come forward knowing that we may be able to hold on to our hopes that we can find nefertiti. >> authority plan to make use of of digital billboard in search for trader. philadelphia police released this surveillance video of the robbery suspect who survived a gun battle with an off-duty detective. police say he is one of two men who held a gun to the detective's head at rising sun pizzeria last thursday night. when the robbers began shooting that detective fired back killing the other suspect. detectives think that he may be connect to other robberies. new jersey governor chris christie says his family is now on board for a possible run for president. he pennsylvania made that announcement during an event in new hampshire today. meanwhile earlier in this day the new jersey supreme court ruled that governor christie can slash millions in contributions to the state's troubled public employee

pension system. the governor had argued that the state cannot afford to comply with his own landmark pension law that required the state to make escalating payments to the pension fund. >> i'm furious and my members are furious and they should be. we're not sad. we're not scared. we're fighting mad. >> still the court ruled that the pension law signed by governor was not an enforceable contract. the governor has called on union annes lawmakers to come back to the table and work on reaching the pension system. today federal railroad administration issued a safety advisory for passenger railroad in the wake of the deadly amtrak derailment in philadelphia it is recommending commuter railroads look where they have sharp track curves and then adjust their an automatic i can train control system systems to prevent the train from going too fast there. if automatic train control isn't available then a second crew member should be in the cab while that train is moving through speed restricted

car or whatever it was didn't show up. >> reporter: there is heavy police presence outside village of essex 40 miles from the prison. authorities said two suspicious people were in the area but would not give anymore details. over the weekend inmates used power tools to cut their way out of the prison correctional facility and investigators want to know how they got them. cbs news has learned prison employee joyce mitchell is among those being questioned. about 5,000 people lived in the town of this area which was built around the prison and for more than a century has been a main employer in the area. rich work at the prison for 35 years doing maintenance. it bothers him to think that the prisoners may have had inside help. >> it is a family oriented town. >> reporter: residents keith and sharon russell have never been nervous living here until right now. >> we're scared, yeah. when you lock your doors when you leave that is bad. >> reporter: still russell's say prison is vital to the

that green grass from all of the rain we have had. picturesque site. we will see mild temperatures over the next couple of days but the big story is going to be the heat, that moves our way. let's move it in and it will stick around. right now 85 in philadelphia 81 allentown. rain cooled temperatures in the poconos. only 69. only 85 in millville. we are very warm, through southeastern, pennsylvania new jersey delaware, down through d.c. and virginia but look to the west. we have some cooler temperatures pittsburgh, state college buffalo, new york only 59, we stay on the warm side. that is the good news. we will watch in the wake of this front temperatures still warm tomorrow but the big difference for us is the low humidity and it is starting to drop already. you can feel it with those wind. sunny and pleasant during the day on wednesday then the heat really builds ahead of the next front, heat and humidity for thursday, temperatures in the 90's. ditto for friday. more heat, more humidity. going to the taylor swift concert at the link friday

i came over second base man's head. >> reporter: when michael got on second base he saw umpire at home plate collapsed and he rushed to his side. >> i said if he is no the breathing we have to start cpr. they are like we don't necessity how to do that. >> reporter: michael used his training as a youth fire fight tore save the man's life. >> i started chest compressions and breaths and just kept doing it, doing it while they called 911. >> reporter: michael's night was not over just yet, after the game, he came to this firehouse and responded to a call about a gas leak. >> he made everybody proud. it makes everybody around here happy to know that people like him are protecting. >> reporter: word got around by the time he came to school tuesday morning the principal, ed small isn't surprised to hear the news. >> he was famous. he was trending on twitter and some of the wonderful things that were stated about him. i shook his hand and shared with him that i was proud of him. >> reporter: michael is overwhelmed wye the attention but focus on the fact that he saved someone's life. >> that is best feeling knowing i could save a human being, that is pretty cool. >> reporter: he is in critical condition and taken to hup but

michael hopes to pay a visit as soon as he gets better n university city syma chowdhry for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". we've got new information tonight on this confrontation between police and teenagers that was caught on camera at a texas pool party. the officer who was involved in this who you see drawing his gun eric casebolt was a accused in a federal lawsuit have of racial profiling and excessive force during a 2007 arrest but that lawsuit was dismissed. we have also learn that the naacp is asking the justice department to review procedures of the mckinley, texas police department. dennis hastert the longest serving republican speaker of the house in history, appeared in federal court today. he has been accused of trying to hide cash withdraws allegedly used to hush money to cover up sexual misconduct. cbs news correspondent craig boswell has more. >> reporter: dennis hastert

had to push his way in u.s. district court on tuesday to answer charges tried to hide hush money to cover up past indiscretions. hastert stood before the the judge to plead not guilty of violating banking laws and lying to the fbi. federal indictment says hastert agreed to pay 3.5 million-dollar to individual a, in order to compensate and to conceal his prior misconduct against that person. hastert has not commented on allegations that he was trying to keep individual a quiet about sexual misconduct when he was a high school teacher and wrestling coach. indictment says that hastert tried to structure cash withdraws to avoid bank reporting requirements and then lied to the fbi bit. hastert will not face any charges related to sexual misconduct because the statute of limitations for those possible crimes has expired. advocates for child sex victims protested outside the courthouse. >> we are asking that the prosecutors seek the most severe punishment possible, for mr. hastert.

group of priests, biking from florida to new york, made a stop in philadelphia today. they were greet by special guests. they rolled into wynnewood montgomery county. extension. i'm going to step out of the way and look at video shot earlier, the southbound side of the northeast extension is still closed, as a result of a retaining wall, that had fallen due to heavy rain that we experienced throughout this morning. it started at 6:15 this morning on the southbound side of the northeast extension around the area of lansdale but it is still closed between quakertown and the pa turnpike. so this is earlier work that happened earlier this morning that they had to extend, into the evening and rush hour commutes. we are talking about severe problems severe delays, and it is sort of hard to get a good idea taking a look at this earlier footage of chopper three but i'm telling you right now what you are dealing with now is traffic being stuck on the southbound side, still between quakertown and pennsylvania turnpike. what they have been doggies alleviating some of that traffic and allowing folks stuck to exit, but you cannot, jump on the southbound side of the extension, and around the area of quakertown and then trying to make your way through to the mid county toll

plaza ramp from quakertown is also closed. your best alternate is 309 but keep in mind we have just cleared an accident on 309 southbound, out of the way not too far from the perkasie area. not too far from the distance. so expecting high volleys what you want to do this evening as you are traveling throughout rush hour using the northeast extension. if you are traveling elsewhere like the schuylkill expressway we are already delayed near your western suburbs and around center city for sure but on the eastbound side beyond gulph mills we are dealing with the truck compromising the right-hand lane. you will see delays backup in the king of prussia area where we are seeing this right here. eleven is your average on the blue route, 14 on i-95, 12 on the vine street expressway. i think you get the idea n delays for mass transit chris. vittoria, thanks very much. still to come here on "eyewitness news" steel even colbert hard at work getting ready for his new late show, we will take you behind the scenes of one of his rather
