we're about two weeks away from the official start of summer but already we're talking about near record heat. good evening, i'm chris may. >> i'm jessica dean. meteorologist kathy orr is live on the cbs3 sky deck track tracking these rising temperatures. kathy? >> it is a beautiful evening but things are going to change real really fast around here. our cooler breezes will turn into heat and humidity as early as tomorrow. on storm scan3 we do have a weak front that's pushing on through the great lakes. you can see the clouds and showers associated with it. ahead of it, warm humid conditions. right now it's 74 in philadelphia. 71 in dover and reading still 73. come tomorrow morning, we are going to see mild temperatures. mainly in the 60s. 69 in philadelphia. that's a warm start and during the day we'll be warming up very quickly. 81 by 9:00 a.m. plenty of sunshine by 11:00. the temperature 86. going well into the 90s. jet stream lifts well to the north and heat that's been building in the planes will be

moving in giving us our first heat wave of the spring season. here a look at the numbers to beat. 95 on thursday. that's set in 1986 and friday the record 95 set back in 1947. so how will we do and how long is this heat going to last? the answers lie in that seven day which i'll have when i join you inside. >> all right, kathy thanks. federal officials say the engineer in the deadly amtrak derailment in philadelphia was not talking on the phone or texting at the time of that crash. still the ntsb says that investigation into the cause of the crash is far from over. "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt tells us the families of the victims continue to demand answers. >> reporter: what was 32-year-old brandon bostian doing just before the train he engineered crashed? the derailment killed eight and injured more than 200. >> we have determined that there was no talking or texting or data usage involved. >> reporter: according to a new report put out by the ntsb

there's no evidence bostian tapped into the train's wi-fi system while he was engineering the locomotive. investigators still hinted bostian still may have used his phone in other ways. ways that don't require an internet connection. >> things like use of an app or other use of the phone have not been determine. >> reporter: 32-year-old has not been heard from since the crash but those representing the victims have been out in the open. >> we've another client in critical condition. >> reporter: philadelphia attorney larry firm represents 12 passengers injured on the train. records indicate the train piqued at 106 miles an hour before derailing that's more than twice the posted speed limit. >> he has a responsibility to all those people who want to go safely home to their families and he and amtrak failed in that responsibility. >> reporter: all questions everybody wants to know what was happening inside that train bostian's attorney has said his client doesn't remember the crash. bostian told the investigators a

few days after the crash that he wasn't sick and wasn't tired. his blood tests have not been made public. live in the sat center tonight david spunt cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> david, thank you. "eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones was at the service tonight. >> reporter: the pastors motorcycle was trapped be 19 the suv. 53-year-old pastor lynn cut was killed. her 51-year-old husband pastor brian was thrown to reading hospital. his left leg was amputated and he has serious injuries to his abdomen. >> father tonight we pray for lynn's family. jesus, we love lynn.

our hearts are absolutely devastated and broken. ♪ >> reporter: more than 1500 people came out to the glad tidings assembly of god church in west lawn wednesday night. there were tears hugs, sadness and lots of prayers. pastor brian has served this community for 27 years. decade pastor scott kramer visited brian in the hospital. >> loud voice like brian, man, kate and i love you. we miss you. we -- we are with you. we're believe in god and praying for you and he opened his eyes at me and he look at me. (applause). >> and -- >> couple was on their motorcycle sunday night when they collided head on with an suv on grange road. the couple was wearing helmets. they have three sons. >> brian is so special to so many people. monday we had our presbyterian meeting. he would have been in that chair next to me as our assistant

superintendent. his chair was empty. and our hearts are broken. >> reporter: pastor brian was listed in critical condition. his wife lynn was just ordained a pastor last month. reporting in spring township, berks county, todd quinones cbs3 "eyewitness news". chester county teacher is behind bars tonight. he's accused of of carrying on a sexual relationship with an underaged student. police say that 31-year-old matthew cavio taught and coached the boy. they allege he showed that boy pornography and sexually abused him through the school year. tonight he's behind bars. police are asking for any other poe then shall victims to come forward. today the phelps school released a statement saying that they were shocked and saddened to learn of the arrest of a faculty member late yesterday evening. they went on to say we can assure members of the phelps school community that the safety

and well-being of our students is para mount and the staff member in question will not be returning ". police are looking for a store clerk who opened fire on a customer in west philadelphia. this happened at the nilo food market in mill creek on the 4500 block of west -- parish street. police say that the clerk got into a dispute with the customer grabbed a gun from behind the counter and fired two shots. the victim was rush to the hospital for surgery to his hasn't. police say the gunman is 50 year old about 5-foot eight and goes by the names pablo rodriguez or pablo torres. prosecutors will seek the death penalty against two men charged with killing philadelphia police sergeant robert wilson iii. carlton hips and ramon williams both arraigned today. they were accused of in the murder of sergeant wilson back on march 5th. he was buying a present for his son at a video game store when police say those two men walked in and tried to rob the place.

wilson attempted to stop them and was killed during a gun battle. tonight police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who critically injured a man on roosevelt boulevard. 25-year-old emmitt tewey was crossing against a red light when he was hit. eyewitness described the vehicle that hit tewey as a dark colored acura or honda. any with one information is asked to call police. vice-president joe biden returned to work today for the first time since the death of his son. the white house says the vice-president had private lunch with president obama. then met with the ukrainian prime minister and attended other meetings. biden has been spending most of his time with his family since his son beau died a week and a half ago after a battle with brain cancer. and meanwhile campaign money set aside for beau biden's phone shall run for governor will help fund a charity in his name. the beau biden foundation for the protection of children was created by his widow. by depth's political committees

reported balances of seven hun doctor thousand dollars back in december. it's unclear how much much that license will be donateed because some bills still need to be paid paid. new at 11:00 o'clock tonight, as the summer arrives philadelphia's tourism season is getting underway. but the fact attracting folks from all over the world to the city of brotherly love is not cheap. is it worth the money? the search for a pair of escaped killers in upstate new york has now extend flood vermont and police are learning more about their daring prison break. sources tell cbs news a female prison worker allegedly planned to pick up richard matt and david sweat once they broke out

but she never showed up. that source says joyce mitchell got cold feet and then had to go to the hospital for panic attacks. investigators have questioned mitchell but they've not filed any charges against her. new developments today in the case of an now former police officer accused of of using excessive force during a pool party in mckinney, texas. cell phone video shows officer eric case bolt taking down a black teenaged girl and pointing his gun at unarmed teens. casebolt and other officers were responding to a report of a disturbance at that pool. he resigned yesterday. today an attorney representing 15-year-old beck ton says her client's civil rights were violated. >> the manner in which she was treated was inappropriate excessive and without cause. i would doubt any parent or residential person would expect that child to be treated in the same way. >> also today case bolt's attorney spoke out in his defense much her client had responded to two suicide calls before that pool incident and

case bolt' emotions got the best of him. in the wake of this incident and others involving police officers use of force washington lawmakers want all officers to now wear body cameras today the house pass add non binding resolution urging state and local departments to equip personnel with recording devices. proponents say this will provide transparency to protect the innocent and also shield officers from false allegations. pope francis met with the russian president vladimir putin at the vatican today. two leaders met for about 50 minutes. and discussed conflicts in ukraine, syria and iraq. the pope has angered some catholics in ukraine for not condemning russia's incursion there. but today the pope did tell putin there needs to be a quote sincere and great effort to achieve peace. he also said that both nations address the humanitarian crisis in the region and give aid workers greater access. of course pope francis is comeing to philadelphia in the

isle checking in at 67. future weather shows a clear sky overnight tonight and tomorrow morning. we see some clouds to the north. and then just more sun during the afternoon. but late in the day as this cold front begins to sag down there's a chance of a few spotty showers maybe a few downpours after the 5:00 o'clock hour through most of the region and then that will be moving out and we dry it out thursday evening. so a shower here or there may be a downpour if you see dark skies moving in bring it inside. these will be quick movers. during the day on thursday, with that front we'll have heat and humidity. temperatures in the 90s. then we watch another system approach from the west on friday friday. more heat, more humidity being squeezed ahead of this. this front means business, though, because saturday it will be breaking the heat and humidity. we still make it to 90 degrees and official heat wave, but that storm or i should say that front will create some showers and thunderstorms that will be more widespread late saturday afternoon into saturday evening. high pressure builds in behind it. so there's going to be a huge

difference between saturday afternoon and sunday afternoon temperature wise and humidity wise. you'll see that in the seven day. overnight mainly clear the low 69. temperatures jump to 93 near record warmth tomorrow. and as we continue to look through the day it is going to be warm one. temperatures warming up very quickly. on the seven day forecast and shore cast friday 92. saturday 90. then sunday only 83. monday 82. and tuesday and wednesday heating back up. shore temperatures quiet warm as well even though we'll be in the 70s for the most part. uv index will be high orr at the shore has a special ed dig tomorrow live from ocean city. we have our alex's lemonade stand we're teaming up with rita's water ice to take a stand against childhood cans sr. and we'll see a very sweet young lady who had neuroblastoma as a baby and now she is a healthy eight-year-old. >> such wonderful stories we'll hear tomorrow. alex's lemonade foundation getting horsepower knots battle
