it is a warm june night across the delaware valley. but get ready. we could be in store for record breaking heat tomorrow. good evening i'm chris may. >> i'm jessica dean. those 90s are hanging around. meteorologist kathy orr is live outside on the cbs3 sky deck to talk about the hotter weather on the horizon. kathy. >> temperatures are in the 70s and the 80s across the region right now and you can feel the moisture in the air. it is thick and it's uncomfortable. the heat and humidity will rise even further during the day tomorrow. and the heat is creating some summer like storms. take look at storm scan3. we do have some showers and thunderstorms moving across the poconos. the lehigh valley berks county these are moving east at 20 miles an hour with frequent lightning and torrential downpours moving across 78 and also the northeast extension as you head north toward the lehigh tunnel and the poconos. please be aware of that fur moving that way late tonight. now, temperatures right now quite warm. poconos rain cooled at 71. 82 in philadelphia and trenton. 80 in wilmington. 76 degrees in millville.

tomorrow morning we start off at 75. by 9:00 a.m. it's 84. 88 degrees by 11 a.m. it is going to be a steamy day. once again check -- chasing record warmth much these are the numbers to beat tomorrow. allen tone 92. atlantic city 93. philadelphia 95 the record in wilmington 96 set back in 1914. we are in for our first official heat wave. we'll talk about how long it lasts coming up and the threat of rain over the course of the weekend when i join you inside. >> we'll see you then, kathy. >> thank you. this has been a huge day in the fight against childhood cancer today here at cbs3 we held our ninth annual telethon benefiting alex lemonade stand foundation and this was a record breaking day. in 14 hours nearly $3 million was raised. >> it was a day of big cheers. big names. and big checks behind the scenes of "a stand for hope".

for hope" saturday 7:00 p.m. on the cw philly and then again on sunday morning at 11:30 right here on cbs3. another news now and knew at 11:00 o'clock tonight police are searching for burglars who stole thousands of dollars worth of computers from a west philadelphia school. they broke in to saint ignatius of loyola school on the 600 block every north 43rd street. let's go out out to "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt standing by life at southwest detectives with more on what happened. david. >> reporter: chris detectives here at this precinct are trying to put together this mystery to find out exactly what happened to those computers. we are talking almost ate $18,000 worth of computers. authorities believe it was stolen last night and tonight they believe it's on the black-market. for 110 years this stone covered church on 43rd street has been a landmark for this west philly neighbor. saint ignatius of loyola also has an independent mission school across the street.

that school is now missing dozens of computers including 30i pads. >> just to see stuff like that happen it's heartbreaking. >> reporter: jennifer simmons run the school at the church complex and told "eyewitness news" she panicked when her colleagues discovered all the equipment gone. >> very upsetting. i mean, you just can't imagine someone would do this to a poor school. we count on everything we have. >> reporter: authorities say the burglar cut lock, broke into the building and walked off with as much as possible. >> it's a huge hit. i moon you got a catholic school here and we all know how the schools are at this point all struggling. >> lieutenant john walker with the philadelphia police department says he expects the goods to be sold on the street for quote a bargain. >> you're buying them for 100 work hundred dollars. they're most likely stolen so we're asking do you the right thing for the kids, not for yell or anybody else were you the kids who go to the schools. >> detectives are trying to track down individual zero yas numbers of each computer hoping they can find and return them to the students of saint ignatius. >> pretty everything they do is

on, you know, computers and smart boards and things these days so they really rely on technology. the not like it's an option. you have to have it. >> reporter: detectives will continue to interview employees to try to solve this mystery. meanwhile if you have any information, police want to you call 215686 tips. you can remain anonymous. you don't have to give your name if you have any information. we're live in southwest philadelphia tonight david spunt cbs though "eyewitness news". >> let's hope someone can help. david, thank you very much. also knew tonight chopper three over a two alarm fire in lansdowne. firefighters rushed to the stratford court apartments on north lansdowne avenue. some people did have to to be taken to the hospital from that scene and we're told the red cross is helping about 80 people who have been displaced by the blaze. the cause of that fire is under investigation. now, an "eyewitness news" tv exclusive. a local actor is showing uncommon courage speaking out from his hospital bed after a live threat tin 10ing hit-and-run this is 68-year-old

michael toner he lost his left leg after that accident on tuesday night. michael had left rehearsal stopped to see friends and was on his way home in the rain when he he was hit crossing at 11th and market in center city. >> i feel traumatized. you know, i can kid around and joke and stuff but it's haunting me little. am i angry or hateful to them? i don't think so. no. i mean it was wrong what they did. >> michael says right now he has no memory of the crash and police have no leads. he's been in a medically inducing coma for the past two days. tonight south jersey fire chief is behind bars on child pornography charges. authorities arrested john duress so at the audubon park fire company in camden county last night. investigators say he used a firehouse computer to view and distribute more than 1,000 explicit pictures and videos.

it's also alleged the 44-year-old shared them on a file sharing network popular with sex offenders. he's now being held on $150,000 bail. the so called black madam sentenced to tone 20 years in prison for performing illegal buttock enhancement procedures that killed british woman. another woman was seriously injured. a jury convicted page winslow back in march with time served she could be eligible for parole in as little it's a seven years. >> judge in cleveland says that there is probable cause to charge two white police officers with deadly shooting of a 12-year-old african-american. young tamir rice was shot and killed in november in an incident that was caught on surveillance video. police have been called to this park because tamir was holding a gun but it turn out to be a pellet gun. now this judge cannot compel prosecutors to bring charges against the officers. they plan to take the case to a grand jury. it's day six of manhunt for two killers who escaped a prison

in upstate new york. searchers are combing woods close to that prison after blood hounds were said to have picked up the convicts scent. they found candy wrappers and footprint believed to be from one of the two men david sweat or richard matt. the dragnet has now extended to vermont. meantime police say a reported sighting of those escapees at philadelphia's 30 street station today was unfound unfounded. around 4:30 this morning a cab driver says that he pick up two men at broad and 59 and thought one of them could be sweat or matt. he said the men were dirty acting suspicious, asked to be dropped off at 30th street and paid in cash. mayor michael nutter and archbishop charles chaput are headed back to rome to put finishing touches on pope francis' visit to philadelphia. the two men and a delegation will spend june 22nd through the 25th in various meetings. making final preparation for

>> wrestling fans of all ages mourning the death of the american dream dusty roads. roads whose real name was virgil reynolds portrayed a charismatic working class here in the ring

and entertained fans for many decades. the world heavy weight champion worked behind scenes for the wwe. dusty roads was 69. there's no word on his cause of death. the acting world is mourning the loss of sir christopher lee. he had a career that spanned near seven decades. but was best known most recently for his roles as czar von in lord of the rings unless and as count duku in star wars prequels prequels. sir christopher lee was 93. now to an mazing rescue at sea. a coast guard camera captured the drama in alaska. the distress call in just before 4:00 in the morning. a 73-foot long fishing boat was taking on water. it was already half submerged when the coast guard helicopter arrived. and 6-foot waves crashed against that boat. the four men on board abandoned the ship and swam to their life raft. a rescue swimmer helped them as they were lifted by baskets to safety. >> i was in the water for about 20 minutes total and the boat

sang as i was coming out of the water just a minute or two after we got the last person out of the raft. >> wow. all four men are now in good condition and the coast guard is investigating what caused that ship to sink but officials do not think the weather was to blame. philadelphia mayoral hopeful jim kenney wants to expand the powers of the philadelphia park parking authority as our matt rivers tells us the ppa's future could involve more than just parking tickets. >> reporter: this is the philadelphia parking authority you know. walking by and leaving that present on your windshield but if democratic candidate for mayor jim kenney gets his way the ppa could have a bit more to do. >> i don't see any reason why we should not utilize employees paid for by the public out on the street. >> his proposal would align ppa employees with the licenses and inspections department. they would make sure construction sites have proper permits while out on their regular duty. >> simply asking the proprietor of the construction company do you have your business activity

license? >> if they found a sight out of compliance, they'd notify l and i and be on their way the overall goal to help ensure work site safety. >> if they are doing this job and without the right permits and stuff like that, you know, it can cause major damage. >> while ppa employees under kenny's plan wouldn't be writing tickets at construction sites they could be writing tickets for other things like, for instance, if you put your trash out too early on trash night. another idea have the ppa write tickets for littering. something the streets department already does. >> we want to make sure the city is clean. >> reporter: to be clear all of these ideas are just proposals for now. if kenny gets elected the details would still have to be work out an extra training for employees required. still, he's not worried. >> taking their license number like they do when they're making a parking ticket doesn't seem to be extensive training report roar pp an and l and i expressed initial support for the ran the ppa will target the usual violators with trash and

82 in trenton. 79 in dover. temperatures soared into the 90s today and we'll go there again tomorrow the down in the 70s. that was the case think afternoon it was little bit chilly. high to put my coat on by 7:00 o'clock it was getting cool. during the day tomorrow, we'll see some clouds early on but then we clear it out. skies will be partly cloudy. a few scattered showers bubble up during the day by the noon hour you'll see just a few and during afternoon mainly to the north and west of philadelphia so if you have tickets to the taylor swift concert at the linc it look like it's going to be dry in south philadelphia right into the late night hours. so during the day we'll watch heat and humidity continue to build. tomorrow even warmer than today. because those heat indices will be well into the mid 90s. temperatures in the 90s. more humidity. very uncomfortable. but then, we'll be seeing the heat come to an end late saturday. but not during the day we peak it to 90 that makes it an official heat wave the first one this spring. cold front moves through sets off some showers and thunderstorms. but it break the heat. back to more comfortable
