meteorologist justin drabick is in the weather center with the first look at the forecast. >> natasha, that's right. we're sitting in this warm humid air mass. we have a warm front moving through. that's the trigger for the scattered showers and thunderstorms. some of these could be strong to severe. here we are breaking out to our west. lancaster county towards schuylkill county, strong to severe thunderstorms. you see a lot of lightning strikes. a few showers trying to develop over south jersey and delaware. we have to watch out for the areas to the west. watch out berks county, probably in the next half hour to an hour, this is a severe storm. again it's moving northeast at about 25 miles per hour so look out jackson around 6:34, eventually into the reading area by 7:19. somewhat slow moving storm system. packs a lost rainfall. there's potential for minor flooding in some of the smaller streams and creeks. we had previous storms across cecil county maryland, northern castle county delaware, flood warning remains in effect for some of the smaller streams as they picked up about a inch and a half of rainfall quickly from the storm system.

into southern delaware, southern kent county sussex previous storms causing minor flooding. scattered strong to severe thunderstorms, potential for damaging wind gusts. and frequent lightning which we're already seeing with that severe storm in schuylkill county this hour. temperatures very warm. it's hot still. allentown reading 87 degrees, a lot of humidity around. the cool spots are down at the shore but it feels like 90 degrees. we'll keep the threat for more showers and storms for the work week as well as the humidity. i'll show you the seven-day forecast in a few minutes. natasha. >> thank you justin to this our other top story tonight a west philadelphia neighborhood is dealing with the aftermath of this massive water main break that turned roads into rivers also opened a hole in the asphalt. the waters have receded but the cleanup has only just begun. the main burst early this morning on the 500 block of north 52nd street at westminster avenue. by the time crews finally stopped the water millions of gallons had already poured

into the neighborhood. >> i don't know. i ain't never seen nothing like this in my life. i'm 64 years old and i ain't never seen nothing like this. i don't know. it's shocking. >> "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers is live at the scene tonight. matt, how far have crews gotten in this massive cleanup effort? >> reporter: natasha, they have made a lot of progress but they certainly have a lot of work still to do. take a look at what it looks like. we're at the intersection of 52nd and west minute story. you can see the hole that was opened up after that water main break this morning. further down the street you can see utility crews remain on the scene. they have been working all day but as i mentioned a lot of work left to be done. the water first poured out of the grounds around 4:30 sunday morning filling somewhere between eight to 10 million gallons of water onto the 500 block of west 52nd street. the entire street was flooded. water rising as high as 3 feet in some areas damaging several homes and several cars parked

on the streets. >> i'm 64 years old and i ain't never seen nothing like this. >> reporter: people who lived in those homes were forced to evacuate for a brief period of time, some of them relocating to a temporary red cross shelter that had been set up. emergency water department repair crews were able to get the flow under control around 8:00 a.m. once that main was sealed, the water receded and those affected were allowed to return back home. >> i haven't really grasped. >> reporter: cleanup work lasted most of the day with repair crews digging up the street to fix any lingering issues. water service was restored fairly quickly as officials tried to assess total damage. >> trying to get some claims adjusters on site to deal with the water in basements and the damaged cars that are here. >> reporter: and so it's at the very least water department crews have to patch up pipes that were burst and the streets department will have to come here repave this portion of the road. as you can see it's still closed at this point. one interesting note natasha

this water main that burst was laid by city crews all the way back in 1885. we are live in west philadelphia matt rivers, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> allall right, lots of work to do. thank you matt. we appreciate it. deadly floods meantime sweep through the country of georgia leaving 12 people dead washing away enclosures of a city zoo. waters unleashed dangerous animals around the georgian capitol. that includes wolves, bears big cats and even a hippopotamus. zoo officials say around 300 animals escaped. it's still not clear how many have been rounded up by now but georgia has mobilized its special forces and warned residents to stay inside. a community in upstate new york remains on edge as two escaped prisoners remain on the loose tonight. law enforcement officials are trying all kinds of things to search for these prisoners including the use of drones to scour the area. officials continue to focus on the area surrounding the prison. cbs news reporter don champion

has more now from new york. >> reporter: a new york state police helicopter provided an aerial view of the search area in upstate new york sunday. the manhunt for prison escapees david sweat and rich marred matt has dragged on for nine days. for residents who live in the rural area the heavy police presence is comforting yet unnerving. >> i have been around the area for my whole life and nothing has ever been like this before. >> reporter: more than 800 state and federal officers are on the grounds here working 12 hour shifts aday. some are set up at check points. most are actively taking part in the search. a former prison employee hung blue ribbons in his yard as a show of support for law enforcement officers. >> everybody is pitching pitching pitching in to try to help them count give them a break and show our appreciation for what they're doing. >> reporter: police have charged prison employee joyce mitchell with promoting prison contraband. they say she supplied the

tools the escapees used as people tried to go on with their lives many can't help but wonder if danger is still lurking nearby. don champion, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> well, philadelphia police meantime are investigating a deadly shooting in harrow gate. officers responded to the 1800 block of east fair street at about 4 o'clock this morning. they found a 22-year-old man face down on the road suffering from multiple gun shot wounds. medics pronounced him dead at the scene. investigators haven't named any suspects just yet. a local animal rescue group has offered a reward as they look for the person who tortured a puppy and left her for dead in a philadelphia park. this video was post towed facebook by lilo's promise a group out of south jersey. it shows the pup who they have named nanny taking her first steps since she was found in tacony park last tuesday. she's emaciated as you can see, she's very weak now but she was in much worse shape

when she was brought to lilo's promise. the group has asked anyone who might know who owned this dog to contact them or contact police right away. there was a protest this afternoon outside of the home of a new jersey senate president steven sweeney. members of the new jersey second amendment society and the family of carol bones were protesting because they say sweeney is against people in new jersey carrying a concealed weapon and against laws they claim could have saved her life. she was fatally stabbed earlier this month by her ex-boyfriend. bone had a restraining order against the man and had recently sought a gun permit. it's been 50 years since dozens of protesters marched at independence hall for gay rights and today it's a celebration of the progress made in lgbt acceptance "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson has more now from philadelphia's gay pride parade and festival. >> a small space probe that was lost after it land on a comet months ago has reemerged. late last night the comet lander sent a message from space to the european space agent z mission scientists have been trying to pinpoint

its location since november. it disappeared after a device failed. but scientists now report that it is on the surface and ready for operations. it is the first spacecraft to ever land on a comet. and jurassic world is now the king of the box office after a record setting opening weekend. the fourth film in the jurassic park series became the highest global opener of all times earning an amazing $511.8 million in its first days in theaters. wow. got to see. that also the second highest domestic opening of all time. it made 204.6 million in the u.s. the movie spy finished second followed by san andreas insidious chapter three and pitch perfect two rounds out the top five. you know justin it's been so hot good place to be is in the movie theater. >> exactly in the air conditioner.

>> popcorn and m and m's. >> sounds if. making a little -- may get a little break if you get caught in one of the showers. the downside is these are strong to severe thunderstorms. may cool you down for a few minutes. still very humid tracking strong to severe storms but not down at the shore s still looking good. live look at ocean city. clouds rolling in, people still hanging out on the beach. why not nice finish to the weekend down here. heads up in south jersey later tonight you could run into some showers and storms t let's take you to storm scan3. a lot of activity right now as a warm front continues to cut across pennsylvania right now. that's the focal point for some scattered strong to severe thunderstorms. you see a lot of lightning breaking out in areas just west of here. we have a new severe storm coming through lancaster. it's about to move into western chester county. that will go until 7:30 this evening. you can see heavy rainfall right around the town of gap right now eventually approaching coatesville so look out route 30. it's a pretty slow moving storm system moving east at about 15 miles per hour. in the honeybrook area, colwyn

at 7:24 and certainly after that we'll be dealing with that into the eastern parts of chester county as this slow moving system. a lost showers and storms to deal with. that will continue through the overnight as we're sitting in this warm and humid air mass. the western half of chester county is under the severe thunderstorm warning again until 7:30 tonight. potential for damaging wind gusts up to around 60 miles per hour and some quarter size hail with that storm system. now, what's ahead this week, still warm and humid conditions average high 83. we'll peak on tuesday up into the low 90's again but still we stay above average through the rest of the week. we catch a little bit of a break on wednesday and thursday as the humidity tries to drop a little bit as well. but there are the temps right now. warm, humid, mid and upper 80's this hour. we're getting the rain cooled air in lancaster at 79 and there's some cooler air to the north and west where we had some earlier showers but overall we're pretty much sitting in a tropical air mass almost and that's what's telling the story rhytina

here, dewpoint temperature. we're in the lower 70's. that's when it feels oppressive. this is was see in the middle of summer, you just want to stay indoors in the air conditioning. there's the warm front moves through tomorrow, still the chance for some showers and storms will be in the upper 80's. tuesday hot and humid 90 maybe even 92 degrees in some spots and approaching cold front will trigger off more showers and storms tuesday especially during the afternoonly we get a break wednesday. still warm, though, mid 80's. warm for this time of year but at least the humidity takes a little bit of a hit. more comfortable. tonight marginal risk of severe storms from philadelphia westward. lowest risk level. lancaster county, western berks county the elevated risk there with a slight risk but watch what happens tomorrow. that slight risk area shifts farther east. a better chance for storms tomorrow afternoon. through the overnight scattered showers and storms. watch out for the potential for heavy rain. tomorrow morning still we may be dodging a few showers and storms so keep that in mind for the morning commute. better chance into the afternoon.

not everybody sees the storms. key word is scatter and same deal on tuesday. for the forecast overnight heavy showers, few thunderstorms, 71 degrees for the low temperature. tomorrow partly sunny skies, an afternoon shower or storm not out of the question, up around 88 degrees. here's your shore forecast. breezy with a southwest wind. app out for afternoon shower or storm. high temperature 82 degrees. winds up around 20 miles per hour out of the southwest. the ocean water is warming up to 69 degrees. here we go the extended forecast shower and storm chances monday tuesday, and are 80's to around 90. wednesday is comfortable less humid, sun 86. we'll keep it on the warm and muggy side for the end of the week. could see some shower or storm chances thursday and again on saturday. final week of spring feels like summer. >> definitely does already. thank you justin. all right lesley the phillies are trying, trying to get the w. >> hard to believe it's not summer and it's already seems like a long season for the phillies. only the middle of june. they've lost five street and 19 games under .500 going into the series finale.
