because of the extreme heat, philadelphia public schools will send student home at noon today. many of the buildings are extremely old and don't have air-conditioning. so schools that have graduations there will remain open. how hot will it get? let's check in with katie for the sizzling forecast, already 72 degrees, kate. >> i that tells you something right there. you you will not need very much heat to actually warm up very readily here today. but we've got it in full effect for you. not just the heat, always the humidity right? makes it feel so much more sticky and muggy and just uncomfortable when you walk out the door. so right now actually the best time if you have got any outdoor plans that you want to get n you really want to take your long walk with the dog, you really want to get in the jog. you might want to think about getting outside doing it right now before it gets too terribly uncomfortable. let me take you outside. show you what's going on here, first and for most, with one of the "skycam 3" views what you would normally be looking at would be lovely view of the center city skyline.

you can't see anything. facing south here from our own station headquarters, even moving things around, nothing is showing up here that is at least a taller building, normally see that just right off in the distance, so we are socking it in here with the high humidity, as well as of course certainly lots of low-lying cloud cover. minute every moisture to work, with awaiting more moisture in the form of approaching comfort index awfully uncomfortable. we call that dew point around 07 degrees. dew point measures it in the air. air temperature self should have good run toward 90 today. mid, lower 80s, he can peck takes around some of the resort towns keep in mind, that every area of our -- of the delaware valley does stand chance to see shower or locally gusty thunderstorm primarily this afternoon or evening with that frontal boundary.

vittoria, over to you. >> thank you so much katie. good morning everyone, right now with some of the fog that we're dealing with this morning, we do have speed restrictions on at least one area bridge. we will talk about that in a second. but first let's get outside. see how you are doing on the majors. if you are traveling in new jersey the 42 freeway is flea and clear for you wide open, giving you big hug, 42 great southbound or northbound, if you are traveling around this area here, creek road. but really it, doesn't matter where you're traveling all-in-all, 42 in new jersey, looks fantastic. as we move along now to 476 the blue route around the mid-county toll plaza again still great out there. only handful of vehicles on the roadway around mid-county, around the schuylkill, around 95. if you are traveling on the roosevelt boulevard in the northeast, northbound and southbound, all lanes are block, in the inner drive. between strale and rhawn ongoing until 5:30. if you are traveling the betsy ross bridge, speed restrictions of 35 miles per hour again because of the fog. diana? >> vittoria, new this morning one person is killed in a

fiery crash in chester county. say the car burst into flames after crashing into a bridge overnight. it happened on route 322 at penn drive in west goshen township. there is no word yet on the victim's identity, the cause of that crash still under investigation. erika? >> flames shoot through roof of west chester building there is morning firefighters trying to figure out what started this huge three alarm fire. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch joins us now, he is at the scene to bring us to up date with the latest on this investigation. good morning. >> forced out at about 9:30 last night. it is unclear when they will be allowed back in, as investigators look into the cause of the fire. >> ripping from the roof, line of flames scorching amounts and businesses inside ten north church street, and forcing evacuations.

from ladders on hi crews snuffed out smoke and flare ups below, took more than 140 fire fight from chester and delaware count toys get the fire under control before midnight. first responders were called about 9:23 monday night by 11:00 the fire was declared three alarms. >> i hope they can restore it somehow. >> this woman says, she smelled smoke moments before the fire had fully grown. >> my dad went into new haven pizak he is like what is that, and the guy is what are you talking about? he came out that's not good. so someone else walk over, they were like they said that's not good we ned to call. then it got real bad. we saw flames five minute later. >> very upsetting. >> jerry, chief financial officer of d and b first bank. he says the bank side of the building suffered heavy damage. >> we put a the love monday my this building and a symbol for the area, and we're disappoint today see this

happen. >> but the relief this morning is that there are no injuries to report involving this fire. as you can see, the board are going up on the windows of this very old building, in the heart of downtown west chester, the red cross tells us they are working with those who have been displaced by this fire last night. we are live in west chester justin finch cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> justin, thank you. two of the three suspect in a delaware county home invasion are supposed to appear in court today, fourth suspect still on the run. police say the group broke into a home on the 2600 block of old cedar grove road in brook all. investigators say the suspect pistol whipped a teenager. police think the homeowners were targeted because they own a business in upper darby. officers caught three suspect after spotting their get away vehicle, "eyewitness news" spoke with the man who saw the arrest happen. >> probably ten cop cars from all different areas i got my own kid right here, and it can

happen to anybody. >> police identify the three captured suspect as 26 year old jermaine wallace his brother, 27 year old sterling wallace, and the driver, who is a juvenile, police have not identified the fourth suspect. they are still looking for him. >> happening today, mayor michael nutter is expected to release more information about the pope's visit to philadelphia in september. now, that includes preliminary information about transportation for the estimated 2 million visitors expected in the city. in the meantime, the mayor will be among a delegation heading to the vatican next week to finalize plans surrounding the papal visit. "eyewitness news" anchor, jessica dean, will be traveling with them. look for her reports from the vatican starting next monday on "eyewitness news". >> 5:06. there are growing calls for rare rape to issue apology she stepped down as president of the naacp spokane washington chapter yesterday after getting caught up in a race scandal. cbs news correspondent wendy gillette has the latest.

sources tell cbs news joyce mitch hell agreement with richard matt and david sweat to kill her husband after they broke out of prison. police say mitchell was supposed to be their get away driver, but she backed out at the last minute. her husband was never harmed. the district attorney says mitchell did not follow through with the plan because she was worried about her husband. >> one of her final statements that she made to us she did love lyle, and that she didn't want to hurt him in that way. >> law enforce. source tells "eyewitness news" mitch hell sexual relationship with rich at matt. mitchell remains behind bars, facing felony charges for her alleged involvement. 5:12. new this morning, al quaida confirms the leader of it powerful yemen a phillie ate has been killed in a us air strike. the terrorist group confirms that nasir was targeted in a cia drone strike last week he led al quaida in the arabian peninsula considered the terror group most capable of

striking american interests. >> a rapidly spreading wild fire in alaska has led to evacuation of 1700 buildings. that will fire which spread in the area north of anchorage; in the heart of dog sled country. about 500 dogs have been rescued from that area. at least 25 homes were destroyed in the flames since the outbreak on sunday, fortunately, though, no people or dogs have been injured. >> right now, a 13:67:89 want to check in with katie for our steamy stormy forecast. >> definitely both of those different part of the day you will notice one more than the other, probably, just depending on when you will be out today. may want to plan differently. if you are about ready to walk out the door right now fog certainly an issue. but we start things off by taking you out to one of the live network cameras notice, not terribly foggy here, outside middle township high school. so definitely is more so confined, i would say toward some of the major river beds, delaware valley, or rather delaware river bed and then in toward the schuylkill, you will find that fog settling

in. but you can see off in the distance here, cape may courthouse, but where it is affecting, you have pretty decent urban is agents, so a loft activity as this fog has really settled in. storm scan3 showing not too much going on at the local level obviously here, but you do want to show you what's happening at the wider zoom very obvious frontal boundary, will trigger fresh rounds of showers, heavy gusty thunderstorms this afternoon and toward early evening. in addition, we've got our tropical storm churning away here with a lot of heavy moisture across the gulf of mexico set to move on in, to southeastern texas spot that does not need the rain at this point. and eventually, that moisture is going to get swept back up into the greater flow. so we'll eventually get in on moisture ourselves. for now we are in the lowest risk possible for severe weather. expecting primarily gusty thunderstorms, in scattered fashion, this is not going to be a wash out after day.

but it is going to be hot steam toy get that moisture and get that instability going later on this afternoon. so we start off with some fog granted but eventually some sunshine, high hitting 90 degrees later tonight, we drop down to 68, with again that little window of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, early evening. looking forward in the eyewitness weather forecast, down the road here, seven day forecast really keeping things pretty mild overall. today one of the hostess days of the packment stays warm behind the front. not humid. that's the key and then pretty active pattern associated could get here as early as saturday day, ion possibility. but time something everything on this one. we'll let you glow tomorrow to enjoy. >> exactly, tomorrow looks great. >> got to get through today first. >> morning vittoria. >> good morning, everyone, right now the roads i would say are just as pleasant and nice as that wet their we look forward to tomorrow. but anyway, let's get outside. take a look how you are doing right now traveling on 95.

ninety-five, commuting in the southbound direction, the shot here, you can see it right at girard avenue. you are traveling southbound on 95, out of the northeast down through to the vine, there are no delays just yet. free and clear, definately see fog in the shot, no doubt about that, we also have fog if you are traveling on the betsy ross, and we will talk about that in a second. all of the majors still quiet many take a look at the schuylkill, have shot not far from the schuylkill expressway, doesn't matter if you are traveling in and around center city throughout the western suburbs all good. we do have construction however all blocking all lanes on both sides of the boulevard in the inner driver between vale and rhawn ongoing until about 5:30. also, an accident on the northbound side of the new jersey turnpike at james berg overturned tractor-trailer two right lanes blocked and 35-mile per hour speed restrictions on the betsy. err dismay. >> thanks, vittoria. usually you don't need extra reason to eat more chocolate right? any excuse will do. we'll tell you how the zoo it two can do wonders for your bod. >> i the latest benefits from

christie has broken - ... before it ends up costing billions more. it's time for fiscal responsibility. fund the pensions now. >> philadelphia police need help finding a burglar who got into a cash register and lost. showing the burglar wrestling with the cash register in this coffee shop, but don't open it because it was bolted to the counter. did he manage to take some cash from another drawer before escaping finally. >> check out this wild scene. this is at subway restaurant outside of baltimore, some customers start fighting in line see that one guy pushes the other one across the restaurant, shatters glass window. police officer just happened to be walking by, and he quickly broke up that fight. police arrested one of the men, still looking for the the other man involved in the brawl.

>> 5:19. penalty trial continues today for james holmes, the manna cured every opening fire in a colorado movie theater killing 12 people, and injuring 58 other. holmes former psychiatrist, will take the stand today he saw homes five times in 2012 prescribed him medication after holmes had thought every killing people. said the doctor was un informed as he plotted his attack. >> new storm brewing in the gulf of mexico, katie is tracking the tropical storm as it gets ready to make landfall. >> also, this morning, two teens recovering after getting attack by sharks on the same beach. now, we take a look at the chance of similar shark attack, at the shore. we'll be right back.

text cast is getting ready for tropical storm bill. hours before the storm was set to hit the coastline. school district in gahm vast tore the houston suburbs have canceled classes today. the eastern half of texas is under flood watches, with up to 10 inches of rain expected, in some areas. >> 5:23, we are watching a storm? >> we are. that moisture, won't be tropical storm let alone even depression, by the time the moisture reaches us, but we are expecting the moisture with what's currently tropical storm bill to actually eventually get swept up in the overall flow in the atmosphere, and head our way. so let's take you out there. we want to show you what's happening first and for most with the storm system. still churning again as a tropical storm not expected to become a hurricane thankfully. by the time it does move on shore. but, you know, you don't necessarily need those strong winds for this to have major impact. so even as the storm continues to weaken, technically, still draws in all of the moisture

and by friday starting to mover across the mississippi. these are spots as you well know simply don't need the rain. eventually, again, will get in on some that far by the weekend. storm scan showing what's up first and for most, that's the approach of our latest frontal boundary at the moment not really bringing much in the way of wet weather. we do have the patchy fog to deal with right now. key word patchy. where you have got it, boy are you socked in. it is very muggy outside. >> late he tonight the sky clear, how many at this drops off, like three part forecast here, looking at today's out outlook. >> by thursday the clouds lee build, may be dealing with fresh batch of showers or thunderstorms, vittoria? >> relatively speaking, it is

still very, very quiet still early, not even at a 30:00 just yet. volume not a problem. we have some things to mention. like if you are traveling or trying to travel on the ben franklin bridge. really any of the bridge, in and around center city. dealing with fog out there. barely see the bridge in the shot. if you are traveling on the betsy ross bridge, keep in mind that due to the fog we are dealing with speed restrictions of 35 miles per hour. soap, you will want to give yourselves more time out there. here's a look at 422 little less foggy you could say right around the area of trooper, and also, very, very light in regard to traffic. so, 422 really looks nice. we do however have water main break in princeton township if you are traveling 206 closing the northbound side between mountain avenue and ewing street. so try to avoid that area if you can. mass transit in the clear. call ahead at the airport. >> former flyers defenseman, kimmo timonen, going out on top this morning, chicago

blackhawks are winners of the stanley cup. chicago took the very first two goal lead in the finals when patrick cane scored in the third period last night. they beat the lightning two-nothing, and won the series four games to two. timmendequas nan listed -- lifted the stanley cup for the first time last night and retiring after 17 years. >> the blackhawks have won it all three times in six years. >> the goal end state warriors could win the nba finals tonight with a win on the road in cleveland. they now lead the cavaliers three games to two in the series. the phillies continue to struggle as they lost their seventh game in a row last night to the orioles in baltimore. an error by codey ash i led to the orioles first run, and the only run they would need. phils lose four-nothing, the phils haven't scored a run in 21 straight innings. and has baseball's worth record. they play the orioles again tonight. >> the eagles begin their mandatory mini camp today at the nova care complex eagles
