captioning funded by cbs this is the "cbs morning news" for monday june 22nd 2015. good morning. i'm alison harmelin in for anne-marie green. this morning the search is refocused during the adirondack mountains after a dna match confirms they had recently been in northern new york. hundreds of officers searched a rural area near a small town of friendship. they broke out of the maximum security prison over two weeks ago. in a matter of hours the man hunt has taken authorities to multiple sites hunl dreads of mile ace part in new york and close to the pennsylvania border. law enforcement sources tell cbs news investigators have a dna match confirming the convicted killers were in the saranac lake

area within the last 24 hours. that dna was apparently found on an item in a cab than had been broken into in the area about 40 miles south of the clinton correctional facility in dannemora. late sunday night tactical teams from vermont were called in for the first time to aid in search efforts near mountain view about 30 miles west of the prison. authorities turned their attention there after investigating a credible sighting. some 300 miles away in friendship new york near the pennsylvania border. >> aviation canine and special operations teams were called in tore assist with this search. >> reporter: brandy thompson said she spotted two men who resemled the convicts in her backyard. >> my heart dropped. i called the dog, grabbed my cell phone and dialed 911. >> reporter: gene palmer a second employee in the prison has been sus spentpend suspended.

kenneth craig, cbs news new york. services for the massive murder will be held later this week. they rang bells across sechblding a message of unity. as marlie hall reports prayer services were held at the emanuel ame search. every pew overflowed at emanuel ame church in charleston. a black loft dragged ref rend clementa pinckney's chair. nine people were gunned down during a bible study wednesday night. worshippers stood outin the blazing sun and offered prayers for the families and forgiveness for the families. >> it's been tough. some of us have been downright angry. but through it all god has sustained us. >> reporter: the latest groups

shooter, dylann roof. it's reignited the debate over the display of the confederate flag at south carolina state house. on sunday dozens held hands. the crossing is named for a former state lawmaker who's a supporter of the flag. while sunday's march was peaceful there are many growing anger. >> reporter: hundreds of people outside south carolina state house this weekend demanding the confederate flag be removed from the capitol grounds. >> we all know wait stands for, colored bathrooms, separate and unequal hostile people, lynching and murder of people. someone spray painting a confederate memorial with the words black lives matter while

some burned the confederate flag. while some say it's a symbol of racism some say it's a tribute to those who have fallen in the war. 1606 them didn't come home. 16 came home missing an arm and a flag. >> reporter: this weekend two republican state law firms will issue a bill that permanently removes the flag from the museum. jeb bush took credit for removing a confederate flag from the state grounds while governor of florida. but lindsey graham defended his state on friday. that's what the state house agreed do. >> reporter: but the two men who battled for the white house in 2012 are in agreement on the issue. mitt romney tweeted this weekend, take down the confederate flag. to many it's aim symbol of hatred.

president obama replied, good call, mitchell is. this morning the taliban attacked the afghan parliament. police say the taliban set off at least one large car bomb outside the parliament building in kabul. taliban's launched attacks on the government targets in the past. northern texas is expected to dry out today but yesterday a father's day storm drenched an area northeast of dallas. the slow moving storm dumped more than 4 inches of rain in some areas. roads and bridges were washed out. homes were flooded and no injuries were reported. folks in central indiana are cleaning up after a strong storm knocked down trees and power lines. the severe weather started yesterday morning. some roads had to be close. eric fisher of our

boston station wbz is tracking the extreme weather which is heading east. >> there will be a big ridge of high pressure. what it will do is produce a lot of heat, especially in the west and southeast and in the northern end that's where the strongest jet stream winds are and a high source of severe weather. as with move toward sunday, a dangerous day for severe weather. a chance for strong tornadoes. upper mississippi valley into the great lakers. definitely a day to be weather aware for changing conditions. for tuesday the severe weather threat will head into the northeast. definitely a day to watch that changing weather. in the south it's all about the heat. a very sweltering heat. even last week around heat is possible. a few record highs. in the west by the ejd of the week a pattern that looks like last winter more temps well above average and a chance for wildfire chances to increase. i'm meteorologist eric fish cbs news. a suspect is back in custody

points. the s&p finished 15 points higher. the nasdaq gained 64 points. health insurance giant cigna is rejecting a takeover bid from its larger rival anthem. anthem offed $47 billion in cash and stock for cigna. the two companies have been talking since last year. cigna's board called the anthem quote inadequate and not in the best interest of shareholders. if you plan to ride in uber leave your gun at home. they have a new rule preventing passengers and drivers having guns inside their car. drivers risk having access to uber services. they changed their result this monday in which two drivers fired guns. >> and "jurassic world" held onto the top spot in the box office. it brought in $102 million makeling it only the second release breaking $100 million in its second week.

here's a look at today's forecast in some cities around the country. this morning colorado officials are investigating the death of a teenager apparently from the plague. they believe taylor gays got it from a flea bite at his family's ranch. the body of a former white house chef has been located the rugged new mexico mountains. walter shy was ported missing after going for a hike over a week ago. they discovered his body near a trail late sunday. the 61-year-old ran the white house under presidents bill clinton and george w. bush. and airline passenger is under arrest this morning

here's a look at today's forecast in some cities often the country. in sports jordan spieth is halfway to golf's grand slam after dramatic win at the u.s. open. spieth blew a three-shot lead at after disastrous bogey on the 17th. he rebounded. then the tournament was in the hands of dustin johnson who missed a 12-putt oneagle and then came back. >> this is incredible. it will take a little while to sink in just given that i didn't think this would be over and i would be holding the trophy.
