>> this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". good morning everyone, here's what's happening. police search for suspect who attacked an office nerve north fill. >> i that officer opened fire shooting at the suspect twice but he got away. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo joins us now outside of police headquarters with the latest information on. >> this jan, good morning. >> reporter: erika ukee, good morning, police tell us, that this officer was fighting for his life when he was forced to take out his weapon and open fire shooting at this suspect two times the officer okay this morning police believe that the suspect wasn't hit by gunfire either. how much, he was able to get away. police still on the look for him this morning. take a look at the video. this is the scene right around 1:00 this morning the intersection of colorado and cumberland street in north

philadelphia. police say, an officer with 22nd police district saw a man in his late teens early 20's, wacking down the street holding object in his waistband. officer ordered the man to stop. instead he took off. officer gave chase. ended in 2400 block of 17th street, in a dark vacant lot. that is when police say this officer was attacked by the suspect. and during that struggle, police say the suspect then reached for the on the in his waistband, and that's when the officer opened fire, shooting twice. as far as police know, the suspect not hit. now, a witness has also come forward this morning telling police that they saw a man running away from that shooting scene with a gun in his hand, so very scary close call for that office they are morning. police are still looking for the suspect meanwhile internal affairs is investigating, as they always do, with any officer involved shooting. that officer just with philadelphia police, for little more than a year, also in good condition, doing well, this morning. we will continue to follow this investigation, but for

now, liver outside philadelphia police headquarters, jan carabeo cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> jan, thank upment also north philly double shooting under investigation. two men were shot in a car in north 11th and west style street. investigators tell us a man walk up and shot them. the driver of the vehicle was able to drive to hahnemann hospital. the car hit with bullet holes sits on vine st. right now. both men are in stable condition. we have up a date for you right now to the breaking news we've been following out of afghanistan. earlier this morning taliban fighters launched attack on the afghan parliament. interior ministry official is confirming for the associated press that all seven attackers were killed by police. and that the situation is, quote, over. suicide car bomber struck at the entrance as the gunman battled police. lawmakers were meeting inside to confirm a defense minister at the time of the attack. >> right now coming up on 6:03, we head out to katie on the skydeck. feeling warmer? >> feeling warm, but not

first full day of the summer season, record high, 100 degrees. so, can get hotterment now problems out on the roads we take to you 95, southbound at cottman, an accident taking out the left lane. and a back up begins now starting to get back up all the way to academy, so have the patience this morning when traveling south on 95 through northeast philadelphia. accident scene right there. let's take to you the blue route. again, past mid-county both directions actually looking pretty good. nice bright sunshine, dry roads, but have to battle the sun glare this morning burlington bristol bridge, spec today open around 6:30 this morning so expect delays there. and if you are traveling in those locations then, in new jersey, travel times looks pretty good. forty-two south, from the walt whitman bridge to the atlantic city expressway, that's about 12 minute trip. fifty-five north from 322 to the 42 freeway, nine minute, clear conditions, and 295 from the delaware memorial bridge all the way up to 42, looking pretty goodment accident in west philadelphia, haverford avenue, between

41st and 42nd. erika, we send it back to you. >> justin, thank you. several resident in west philadelphia are waking up this morning to their cars smashed. the incident happened at 42nd street and haverford avenue. police say a man stole a vehicle, then crashed into several other. the suspect fled that scene on foot. police are still searching for him. caught on camera now train clams into a car in newark delaware, could be could have been so much worse if it wasn't for quick thinking police officer. video right hire, from viewer, it happened just after 11:00 last night. an elderly man we're told was driving on east main street when he attempt topped make a turn across railroad tracks. his car got stuck as a train was approaching. two off duty police officers saw what happened, and quickly helped that man out of the car before the train came. accident investigators are expected to be out at the scene, this morning. >> a $20,000 reward is being offered this morning for two men who opened fire at a west philadelphia block party.

ten people were shot, including a 18 month old and two other children. the victims were at cook out along the 4100 block of ogden saturday night. neighbor called 911 when one of the victims knocked on her door. >> he was bleeding, told him to come in the house. >> i'm nervous upset because you know, children can't even play, you know, i'm scared to go to the store. soy, actually, i'll trying to pack up and get out of here. i can't live like this. >> police believe the shooting may be part of a ongoing feud between two groups in that area. if you have any information about the shooting, you are you can today contact the police. >> cbs news has learned, that investigators have found a dna match confirming two escape prisoners were in the czar knack lake area of new york within the last 24 hours. police also say there are credible sitings of richard matt and david sweat in allegany county new york. that's more than 300 miles southwest of the maximum security prison, they broke out of more than two weeks

and planners departed philadelphia international airport late sunday after into the. will take part in final series every planning sessions before pope francis traveled to philadelphia for the world meeting of families in september. mayor nutter tells cbs-3 that the pope's safety while visiting philadelphia is priority number one. >> you know, pope francis pretty much requires the significant amount of access to the people, that is what he is about. it is our job to make sure that access is safe, at all times, and that his movements are easy, but also -- >> the delegation not scheduled to meet with pope francis in person. >> another day of building heat for us. we had cold front cross through it won't knock the temperatures back all that much. also tracking developing frontal boundary, heavy rain, thunderstorms, back across the northern high planes, but his is eventually sort of just a way to turn your focus to the next system that's eventually going to be developing. it will look little different than this by the time it is reaching us tomorrow. for now on day two, of the first official heatwave. now i know we said this before. we just came shy of actually hitting a heatwave with recent systems moving through recent temperatures but we expect another day in the 90s and yet another one tomorrow. that will would make three in a row. that's what you need to qualify for it officially. meantime, expect that the humidity starts to many rap up tomorrow before that aforementioned front starts to move n that's going to bring in some showers some storms, hat in the day which could turn locally strong or severe. so we have to keep an eye on the radar not until tomorrow. for now looking good. come wednesday not quite as oppressive in the wake of the front.

new jersey's supreme court has spoken but teachers and school employees still fear for their futures. because rather than solving the pension crisis the court says politicians can continue to ignore it. that's just wrong. teachers and school employees have paid billions into their pensions. but the state has failed. the legislature can fix what governor christie has broken - ... before it ends up costing billions more. it's time for fiscal responsibility. fund the pensions now. the beast was as long as the boat.

>> good morning, search bore two escape prisoners in new york is ranking far and wide. >> authorities checking out reported sitings including near a cabinets northern new york where source respect say dna was found. >> cb news correspondent kenneth craig tracking developments he joins us now from new york, good morning. >> wed well, good morning to you, search this morning continues to folk just that area, northern new york, where the stays prince on is,. >> in a matter of hour, the manhunt for david sweat and richard matt have taken authorities to multiple sites hundreds of miles apart in new york, and close to the pennsylvania border. law enforcement sources tell cbs news, investigators have a dna match confirming the convicted killers where in

the czarknack lake area in the last 24 hours. that dna was apparently fawn on item in a car inch that had been broken into in the area about 40 miles south of the clinton correctional facility. late sunday night, tactical teams from vermont were called in for the first time to aid in search effort near mountain view about 30 miles west of the prison. authorities turned their attention thereafter investigating a credible siting. some 300 miles away, in friendship, new york near the pennsylvania border. >> aviation, k9, special operations teams were called in to assist with this search. >> randy thompson said she spotted two men who resembled the convict in her backyard. >> my heart dropped. i called the dog. i grabbed my cell phone, and went toward the house, and dialed 911. >> as the manhunt continues to unfold, authority announce, jean palmer, a second corrections employee in the prison, has been suspended, officials have not said why he was put on leave.

dew point levels on a little bit after baby roller coaster ride. today may not be terribly humid. but tomorrow it will get awfully steamy outside before the first front crosses. behind it on wednesday it drops back off again. you get the idea. go on little see-saw effect with this. meantime look at this, not one cloud in the sky. so so beautiful to start the morning off. already at 76 degrees, though, and the sun just came up. so we don't think we're going to have very difficult time hitting these expected daytime highs. we are shooting for 91 officially, but as we look through the day planner by 3:00 p.m. probably still in the upper 80s should tack couple of extra degrees before the day is said and done, since of course in the midst of the longest days of the year, since we just hit the summer so stulls. eighty-eight by 3:00 p.m. hot afternoon granted but thankfully not terribly muggy and we're obviously already off to pretty warm start flirting with 80 by 9:00 a.m. justin over to you. >> pretty impressive. we had the front come through yesterday. that knocked back humidity just little bit.

say killed an officer, transporting him to jail over the weekend. how he managed to kill that officer remains unclear. correspondent brian web has the latest. >> police say they captured 33 year old travis boyde after he was spotted driving a stolen pick up in new orleans sunday morning. >> i know pd officers actually saw him chased him he then crashed that house into a house. they pursued him on foot into the neighborhood. task force officer actually saw travis boyde and apprehended him shortly before 9:00 a.m. he was attempt to go boorda rpa bus. >> boyde was being drive tone jail saturday for aggravated assault when he allegedly shot police officer darryl holloway. it is still unclear how boyde slipped hits handcuffs from behind his back, pulled gun and shot the officer as he drove. the police car crashed into a power pole, boyde climbed into the frontal seat through a cage and et cetera caped. >> we'll find out how that happened to ensure that that absolutely never happens

again. >> the 450 year old officer died at the hospital. he had been on the new orleans police force since 1992, and was the father of three children. he was more than a great cop. he was a good man. he was a good father. our hearts break for him and his children on fathers day. >> brian web for cbs news, new york. >> security video captures the moment here following michetti attack on los angeles man you see the victim there stumble across the street and collapse. police soon arrive after. they are able to help that man. the victim said that four men in a car tried to steel his bike, and he fought back. one of those men attack him with a michetti. doctors are now work to go re-attach that man's thumb. >> frightening scene in delaware county sunday afternoon, it happened on turner road near the wallingford station on septa's media elwin line. officials say the driver of the car, a man in his 90s was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

the 37 people on the train, including crew were not hurt. that accident is still under investigation. >> and, in camden county, rescue on the banks of the cooper river. police say driver careened into the river early sunday morning, along south park drive in collingswood. rescuers pulled that man to safety. they were alert to the accident by man who lives nearby and saw the whole thing unfold from inside his home. >> i was having my coffee. just looking outside of the window, and i saw that guy stopping on the other side of the street right in front of my house. and the driver start having a seizure. and i you know, wanted to go there and help him when all the sudden he step out and step on the accelerator, ran right into the river. >> police say the man was taken to the hospital. at the moment still no word on his condition. >> happening today philadelphia job fair. it will be held this morning at the crowne plaza on city avenue. hundreds of jobs will be available including carreers in sales financial services,

heavy storm. >> here's kate. >> i good morning, we start things off by checking in with the weather watcher network. already off to very warm start. as is basically the whole region here, finding temperatures already in the 70s, certainly some upper 60s still being reported and couple most remote suburbs but mild outside. that's more than anything, courtesy of the sunshine, helping to warm things up for us quickly and we also did just see front cross through that's knocked the humidity back little bit here. currently north wales, 74% humidity feels less muggy the case because of the front. going to 70 degrees sent in to us from lisa, full sunshine, barely cloud out there in wilmington and 70 degrees, clear, calm, and she's looking ahead to nice warm sunny day that we're watching unfold right now. 70 degrees, we go to one more take you bit further inland here where fran actually has little hint of some cloud cover, out in nottingham.

new jersey's supreme court has spoken but teachers and school employees still fear for their futures. because rather than solving the pension crisis the court says politicians can continue to ignore it. that's just wrong. teachers and school employees have paid billions into their pensions. but the state has failed. the legislature can fix what governor christie has broken - ... before it ends up costing billions more. it's time for fiscal responsibility. fund the pensions now.
