aning up this mess, for days to come. now the storms are also having a big impact on mass transit, there is no patco services,. >> good morning everyone, gloucester county under a state of emergency. police are urging residents to stay off the road until they need to travel. >> good day to stay home. power crews are working to restore services right now peco is reporting nearly 200,000 outages some say it is for customers power won't be restored until friday. atlantic city electric has 160,000 outages 50,000 pse&g customers in the dark and del marva has 27,000 outages. we have live team coverage of the aftermath of the storms justin finch looks at the troubles with mass transit. >> lets start off with our jane carabao in delaware count which more on the damage and just looking behind you wow jan? >> reporter: i want to warn our viewers just getting up and getting prepared to hit

the road, going to work that you want to be very, very careful in hard hit areas like delaware county. we're coming to you live from valley brook road in chester heights this morning where you can see a tree fell during the height of the storm last night. fell across this road. half of it has been cleared. only one lane gets through here. i have seen a lot of cars coming will very fast around that corner, and had to slam on the brakes to make their way around. you can see what is causing problems this morning. it is not just clearing damage but these trees have fallen own power lines. we have major power on it ages in this area peco says more than 90,000 customers here in delaware county alone are in the dark this morning. they warned, that it may be until friday, until all of the power is restored, especially in these hardest hit areas. i want you to take a look at the video just down the street, around the corner on louelan road we found this huge tree, century's old where we have been 250 years old

came crashing down on the home last night. we are told a man was at home at the time and had to be helped out of his home and taken to the hospital for evaluation last night and there are similar sites all across delaware valley. we saw them last night and this morning the storm has left behind down trees some roads making it impassable. stop lights were taken down by branches and many were remaining in the dark this morning because of the power outages. back out here live on valley road in chester heights delaware county. you can see cars making their way slowly around this area, because the road here is partially block by the two trees. you can see on coming traffic right now, has been slowed down realizing that this tree is still in the road and they make their way around in the opposite lanes to get by. so we want to urge everyone heading out the door right now to be very careful because this is not the only incident that we have seen through delaware county this morning. again, peco is urging folks to remain patient.

they know it is very frustrating to be in the dark for so long but they have so many situation toss deal with that it could be until friday, until complete power is restored. we have continue to follow this story. for now we are in chester heights delaware county, jan carabao for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". now the national weather service will make a decision whether or not that was a tornado that touched down in deptford on tuesday night. a car flipped on to its have roof during that storm there. there it is. many at the deptford mall described what sounded like and looked like a tornado that ripped through the mall parking lot and then barreled towards them. over to the woodbury, a massive oak toppled on to i a house and several cars. gloucester county, was under a state of emergency. just figured it was another storm, when they said tornadoes it came in 15 minutes and was here and gone.

>> reporter: what did you see, was it raining what kind of things were happening. >> win was really blowing hard and rain. >> emergency officials will use software over next few days similar to google earth vehicle to log damage reports that will ultimately help with fema reimbursement. that storm damage is causing problem for people riding the rails. >> our team coverage continues with justin finch over at the pennsylvania co collinswood station to tell you more, justin? >> reporter: well, ukee and erika, good morning. no doubt lots of people calling out for work commuting because patco services is down. they may have it backup and running this morning or perhaps, after the rush hour but for shore that is not going right now. lets go to video from over, night you will see that train station here, patco are lock down, they are dark, until that service is restore. meantime new jersey transit will honor patco tickets on new jersey transit buses. now, the down service of

course, due to storms that blew in yesterday during rush hour causing outage is a cross our area that made 30th street station a virtual weigh station for dozens of passengers who were displaced. the delays went well into the night and overnight and we spoke with one amtrak rider who said he was stuck on the train for hours lets take a listen. >> there was in electricity. it was hot. it was really very stuffy. there was no water. the toilets were non-functional. people got conflicting information. >> reporter: definitely uncomfortable and frustrating. the good news amtrak restore northeast corridor services so you can expect delays here and there looking at collinswood station you can see not many cars out here, the trains are stuck on those tracks, no life at that station. service is not going on here today. for the most part people have gotten that message.

speaking but with that traffic light situation being out again. twenty-sixth and pen rose. it will cause problems. we have problems throughout the neighborhood. down trees fallen power cables and with those power outages, a lot of lights are completely out or they are on flash. make sure you are extra aware and you have your coffee. let's talk about mass transit. amtrak is running on time, patco, suspended, new jersey transit is cross honoring. new jersey transit atlantic city airline or atlantic city rail line, also suspended. media elwyn suspended. paoli thorndale is suspended between thorndale and malvern but there is services available, between malvern and center city. so note that. we will leave with you this, but there is a lot going on this morning katie how about weather-wise, are we catching a break. >> thankfully, yes, we are vittoria but man mother nature threw is awe you dirty hand yesterday. it was such a rough evening of thunderstorms and it came with terrible timing when so many people were trying to get home for the night or grab dinner with the kids. it was rough stuff. i want to take you out to a

we will talk about that in a second. we're dealing with traffic lights being out there so anyone making their way from maybe 95 the airport, heading in to south philadelphia. twenty-sixth and pen rose will be very slow and we have police directing traffic but we are taking you now to the schuylkill where 76 eastbound we do have a situation here. it is off towards the shoulder but causing some gaper delay traffic on top of rush hour traffic that is now building. eastbound on the schuylkill heading in to downtown philadelphia expect that volume pocket forming. we will also find volume pockets westbound on 76 at city avenue now starting to form. and on i-95 heading out of the northeast down through the vine street expressway. sun glare affecting your commute. look at this mass transit checklist lots of things affected or have now been affected from yesterday's storm. give yourself more time out there. we will keep you update nod doubt about that. lets head back to the desk. >> vittoria, thank you. a fire fighter is in the hospital after an overnight fire in elmwood.

and, in the 6300 block have of wood land avenue, just before 12:30 this morning. there is no word right now on the severity of that fire fighter's injuries. well, a big reward is offered in connection with recent shootings in philadelphia neighborhood. mayor's office is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the a arrest and conviction of the gunman who opened fire in kensington on monday. seven people were injured in the 700 block of east hilton street. and last saturday ten people were shot at a block party on the 4100 block of ogden street. a $10,000 reward is offered in that incident. >> we will be right back.

new jersey's supreme court has spoken but teachers and school employees still fear for their futures. because rather than solving the pension crisis the court says politicians can continue to ignore it. that's just wrong. teachers and school employees have paid billions into their pensions. but the state has failed. the legislature can fix what governor christie has broken - ... before it ends up costing billions more. it's time for fiscal responsibility. fund the pensions now.

so far there is no word on funeral services for long time sixers stat magician harvey pollack. he started with the warriors in the 40's and has a ring for every pro fill basketball team to win a title. harvey was longest tenure employees in the nba. he was responsible for many basketball stats like blocks, steals turnovers and many others. he was the scorer for wilt chamberlain's 100-point game. he was involved in a very serious car accident last january. he is survived by his daughter linda and son ron who worked for the sixers. harvey had four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. harvey pollack, a great guy was 93 years old. baseball now and phillies taking on the yankees this

good morning family. how did you make out last night? clean up is underway all over the region after damaging storms ripped a path of destruction. "eyewitness news" in deptford gloucester county within the hour. you can see debris scattered all over the area is there a state of emergency in effect for that area so you are urged to stay off the road if possible. >> another hard hit area from last night's storms, delaware county, that is where "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabao joins us and we are seeing trees down behind you good morning. >> reporter: erika and ukee, good morning. i'm standing in the middle of busy route one in delaware

county, glen mills area where traffic is being diverted and this area right at schoolhouse lane and this is why. a huge tree has come down not just in one spot but many spots in this stretch of road taking out power lines here. you can see that the power lines are like spaghetti or shoe strings dangling around and power lines on the road. damage to the trees as well as just take a look at that branch, the biggest part of the damage here. it took out transformer pole and come down on the lines stretching across the road here blocking this section of route one. so those lanes a across are getting through some traffic is trying to go the wrong way down this road. never a good idea. i cannot urge enough that motorist need to be very careful heading out the door this morning. this is what you will see especially here in hard hit delaware county. we just came down the road from chester heights where we have another tree just like this across valley brook road so you want to be aware thaw might run into this.

you might to have detour your morning commute this morning. if you take a look at the video you can see during the height of the storm how much damage it a has caused. that is a home on louelan road in chester heights a big tree, 250 years old came down on a house, slicing it in half. the home owner was at home at the time. he had to be taken out of the hospital and taken to the hospital for evaluation last night. he has a whole lot of clean up to do. so do many other people in delaware county. this is a hard hit area. peco says more than 90,000 customers are without power this morning and they say that in the hardest hit areas it may be until friday, before all of the power is restored, but they have a lot of crews in and around this area some 200 local contractors i'm sure we will have have more and more people hit the ground as the day comes on and day gets older. you can take us back out here live on the scene busy route one when do you ever stan in the middle of it but all this

hair day. >> i know. >> i was listening, i promise. >> good morning everyone. right now if you are heading out and about list up to this traffic report. you may have to do restructuring to your usual morning commute especially taking mass transit. first lets talk about an accident on i-95, sun glare out there rush hour forming this is i-95 south atwood haven. note that is vehicle there blocking the left-hand lane. traveling in this area we have a big delay that lies beside this. it does seem to me that penndot is on the scene. we could be towing this vehicle out of the way but it is causing a problem traveling out of the area of bensalem. note that. you'll run into traffic pockets around cottman avenue and approaching betsy ross bridge down through the vine street expressway. usual stuff out there also you have usual pockets on the schuylkill expressway as well. looking at our mass transit checklist amtrak running on time, yesterday they had suspensions but they are good to go this morning thankfully. patco is still suspended and

pastor of emmanuel episcopal church in charleston where the shooting took place. now south carolina lawmakers voted overwhelmingly tuesday to consider removing the confederate flag from the state house grounds. one proposal would move that flag to the museum. sudden push to take down tributes has made converts out of politicians who long supported or stood silent about such symbols. they call the outcry an over reaction. we now know what caused freddie gray's death the baltimore man whose death sparked nationwide pro test against police brutality. according to the autopsy report obtained by baltimore sun, gray suffered a high energy injury riding in a police van. sun reported that the injury, similar to those suffered in shallow water diving was most likely caused when the van decelerated. report says the death could not be ruled an accident and is instead a homicide because the officers did not follow

safety procedures. happening today another presidential hopeful enters the race, louisiana governor bobby jindal is expect to announce he is running today. he will make that announcement this evening in louisiana. jindal joins a crowded race with about a dozen viable competitors now running. new jersey governor chris christie's announcement could come as early as next week. according to a report from from it co, christie is in the final stages of preparing for his presidential bid. christie's ramped up campaign planning and hired two additional staffers in new had hampshire on monday. governor said wow wait to launch his campaign until the new jersey legislature passed the budget, that is coming up at the end of the month. we will wait and see. still ahead this morning how you can have a beach day in the middle of the city. >> say what. >> i know. >> also, a cool new truck that makes it easier for drivers who get stuck behind it in traffic. you might not even be in such a hurry to pass it by.

new jersey's supreme court has spoken but teachers and school employees still fear for their futures. because rather than solving the pension crisis the court says politicians can continue to ignore it. that's just wrong. teachers and school employees have paid billions into their pensions. but the state has failed. the legislature can fix what governor christie has broken - ... before it ends up costing billions more. it's time for fiscal responsibility. fund the pensions now.
