good morning. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. another new york state corrections department employee is under arrest for allegedly helping two convicted murderers to escape. corrections officer gene palm mer plans to plead not guilty. meanwhile the search starts its 20th day. gene palmer was arrested wednesday evening. he was charged with promoting prison contraband tampering evidence, and official misconduct in the escape of convicted murderers david sweat and richard matt from the clinton correctional facility more than two weeks ago. another prison employee joyce mitchell, who supervised the prison's tailoring shop is jailed on charges she helped the men escape by smuggling hacksaw blades and other tools into the prison in frozen hamburger meat. she has pleaded not guilty.

palmer is charged with bringing the contraband to the prisoners. his attorney says he doesn't know what he was moving. >> they asked her to do things that she did and she conned people into doing it for her. in my mind she's just as mentally ill as the two escapees are. sweat and semi-automatic escaped after cutting a hole in their cell wall. the search is focused on a 75 mile area 20 miles west of the prison. about 1,000 officers are searching the densely wooded terrain. >> what you're seeing here is the face of relentless pursuit and we're going to be relentless until we capture these people. the bottom line is we don't want them to have a restless sleepless night putting their head on any pillow. >> they caution they could be armed. they are cunning, desperate and considered extremely dangerous. the military concerns the

overnight clash of an f-16 in the desert southwest. the fighter jet went down near douglas, arizona, close to the new mexico border. the wreck sparked a big brush fire near a natural gas pipeline. the plane is part of the air national guard's 162nd fighter wing out of tucson. the condition of the pilot and the cause of the crash are not clear. firefighters in california are battling several wildfires this morning when 90 miles east of los angeles in the san bernardino mountains. evacuations have been ordered for at least two towns and a third is under a voluntary evacuation. nearly 30 square miles have been burned. fixed winged aircraft fighting the fire had to be grounded because a hobbying drone was flying in the area. this morning evacuation orders have been listed for residents in the newhall area north of los angeles. the fast-moving brush fire began wednesday and briefly closed the

north-south freeway. at one point more than 4,000 residents were evacuated from 5,000 homes. >> i saw a fire in my neighbor's backyard and that's when i said it's time to go. next thing i know they were banging on my door get out, get out. >> the fire has burned 350 acres but firefighters have gained the upper hand. one firefighter suffered minor injuries. more severe weather is a possibility in the denver area today following yesterday's damaging storms powerful winds including an unconfirmed tornado created chaos. roofs were ripped off and turned into dangerous projectiles. trees snapped and were thrown into homes. residents had to run for cover, but no one was seriously injured. the storms also produced torrential downpours that stranded evening rush hour commuters yesterday. there was widespread street flooding and some power was knocked out. in some areas more than two inches of rain fell in an hour.

well today funeral services will be held for two of the victims of the charleston church massacre. last night exactly one week after the deadly shooting a bible study group was held at the emanuel african methodist episcopal church. >> reporter: with heavy hearts mourners will say good-bye to two of the nine. 70-year-old ethel lance worked at the church and sha rhonda was a mother of three served as minister. just as they had done one week ago when they were killed worshippers gathered to study the bible at mother emanuel ame church. >> i have no fear because i know god is in his temple. >> the reverend goff helped unite them with one simple message. >> love your neighbor as you would love yourself and do unto

bentley moved quickly issuing an executive order that brought down four confederate flags that flew at the state capitol montgomery. the death penalty handed down to boston marathon bomber dzhokhar tsarnaev will automatically be appealed. the appeal could take decades. yesterday at the sentencing hearing tsarnaev said he was sorry after victims berated him for his cowardly and disgusting act. >> reporter: dzhokhar tsarnaev first praised a la and then apologized to victims and his loved ones as he spoke publicly for the first time about the bombings that killed three and injured 260. he looked straight at the judge and addressed the victims when he said i would like to now apologize to the victims, to the survivors. he also admitted to his role saying i did it along with my brother. i learned about some of the victims. throughout the trial more of those victims were given names, more faces and they were good

souls. some survivors doubt tsarnaev's sincerity. >> what he said showed no remorse, no regret and no empathy for what he's done to our lives. >> reporter: but another victim offered forgiveness. >> i hope that his words were genuine. i hope that they were heartfelt. >> reporter: the prosecutor says she was struck by what tsarnaev didn't say. >> he didn't renounce terrorism. he didn't renounce violent extremism. >> reporter: just minutes after his statement judge george o'toole formally sentenced tsarnaev to be executed telling him he will be remembered only for willfully and intentionally murding and maiming innocent people. the parents of 8-year-old martin richard, the youngest person killed in the bombings said they would have rather seen tsarnaev receive a life sentence so he could contemplate his crimes. tsarnaev's death sentence will automatically be appealed. jim armstrong for cbs news boston. today lawyers for colorado theater shooting suspect james

james taylor has his first number one album this morning. his new compilation "before this world" hit the top of the billboard charts a mere 45 years after taylor's debut. the five-time grammy winner has had 11 albums in the top 10. only tony bennett rated longer for his first number one. well new numbers from the census bureau show a generational changing of the guard. millennials have now passed baby boomers as the largest population group. there are more than 83 million people who were born as americans. the number of baby boomers born in the post war boom is 75 mall. routinely over charging its customers. it has nine stores in the city. the department of consumer affairs said it overstated the weight of prepackaged food. in one case a package of coconut shrimp cost more than $14 more than it should have. whole foods is working to address the city's concerns. talks are expected to resume this morning in brussels. greece has less than a week before the next loan payment is due. doesn't have the money to make good. greece has promised tax cuts through savings. its lenders want more spending cuts. lack of progress in the greek debt talks sent stocks on wall street lower. the dow lost 178 points. the s&p finished down 15. the nasdaq fell 37. the irs is doing business with tax delinquents in violation of federal law. the tax agency issued contracts to 17 businesses that owed taxes between 2012 and 2013 according to a report by the treasury

inspector general. the tax debts totaled more than $10 million. the irs says nine of the contractors have since either paid what they owed or started to. more americans will be traveling this 4th of july holiday. aaa estimates nearly 42 million americans will travel 50 miles or more. that's the most since 2007 before the great recession began. aaa says the improving economy and lower fuel costs are the reason. ford is launching a car sharing program. customers who finance their cars will rent their autos on a short-term basis as a way to defray costs. the pilot program will be offered in november in 6 u.s. cities and london. the prescreened renters work through the ride share company get around. lego is going green. lego plans to invest $1 billion in the next 15 years to make its plastic building blocks better for the environment.

new jersey, is being watched at least according to this family who paid $1.3 million for the dream home in the picturesque town of westfield. they claim the previous owners were aware of the man called the watcher but never said anything. >> i would be pretty upset if i got a house and found out that the previous owners knew about it. >> reporter: since moving in the owners say they've received numerous letters from the mysterious person. the watcher claims the home has been the subject of my family for decades and i have been put in charge of watching and waiting for its second coming. the new owners have several children and other letters ask, have they found what's in the wall yet? i am pleased to know your names now and the name of the youngblood you have brought to me. the bone chilling letters were enough to send the new family packing. the incident so unnerving the westfield mayor addressed the issue at a town council meeting tuesday night. >> our police department conducted an exhaustive investigation based on the actual circumstances and

a jury has awarded a virginia man a half million dollars after he was mocked by anesthesiologist during a colonoscopy in 2013. the patient was recording the doctor's instructions and left his device running after he was put under and that's when the insults started flying. peggy fox of our washington station, wusa has the recording. we have a warning for you, this report contains some strong language. >> reporter: it was in this office behind closed doors where doctors performing a colonoscopy were recorded saying the rudest things about their patient. >> really after five minutes of talking to you in preop i wanted to punch you in the face and man you up a little bit. >> reporter: that voice is anesthesiologist tiffany ingham.
