reporting 66,000 outages atlantic city electric says more than 128,000 customers are in the dark right now and pse and g, 14,000 outages and del marva says nearly 3500 customers are without power. good morning delaware county remains in the state of emergency with little more than 25,000 peco customers without power after tuesday's fast moving storms. this morning the boro hall in brookhaven is serving breakfast to those still without electricity after tuesday's storms. >> response is taking longer than county leaders expect. they said don't expect power to be restored county wide until sometime on friday. >> we have no where else to go so it is nice that we have somewhere that we can all spend time together. >> the philadelphia union will open up ppl parkas a shelter at 11:00 a.m. together for delaware county resident to shower, cool off get food and water. you forget how much you rely on electricity, until this happened. >> the hard hit areas may in the get their power back until the weekend.

>> "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch joins us from washington township with how they are managing without that power, good morning. >> reporter: erika and ukee, good morning. no doubt people have been wait hearing just to go about their day and to assess damage as they wait for their power to be turn back on. we're at whitman drive and as you can see this is much of what this area sees this morning, down trees yard, cars crushed beneath and to add more to this people in this neighborhood may have to wait until the weekend as you said to get their lights turn back on. that is the forecast that atlantic city electric, they are the provider for washington township out here and their target is to restore power to a hundred thousand customers by late sunday. they are hoping to have it done by midday on saturday. now ac electric is calling in crews from across the northeast and ohio to help out. and the mayor of the washington township says that they are a key part of the township's clean up efforts lets take a listen.

>> it has to be a team effort. we have to have the electric company because the tree are encased in wires and they are blocking our major roads. we need to have the electric companies with the saws, and our public works gentlemen so that we can get this job done. >> reporter: as you hear the power company also need to help them clean the road major thoroughfares like black horse pike are needed as well. you may hear hum of generators out, those are neighbors waking up having using generators all night as they wait to have their lights turn back on. that wait now may extend until late sunday. now they are hoping to have it done, much earlier. we are live from washington township i'm justin finch for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> counting on those generators. pretty nice day overall today. >> katie is tracking storms for later on today right

katie. >> we are off to a pleasant cool start out there too guys. i was just looking on twitter and getting a a couple responses from margot in the eyewitness weather watcher network saying it feels cool but we need that. she's one of the folks that lost her power. so feeling that cooler air is helping at least for the poor folks that still have yet to get back on the grid here. but with the wet weather that we will have, is going to be part of the larger part earn change typically we would be in the mid 80's and that is what we hit yesterday and today, we will drop to the lower 80's tomorrow and continue the tea kline in the weekend. storm scan is empty for now but as we you'll things out there it is, first in line, another series of disturbances and already bringing heavy rain and thunderstorms to the midwest and we have a slight risk or a marginal risk. but primarily south of philadelphia for later on today and toward night fall. if you have outdoor plans i don't want to you cancel them.

continue to grow. looking at ben franklin bridge, no major problems in either direction. we are seeing a few more vehicles traveling on the westbound side pushing down toward eighth and vine but nothing major just yet. all of our majors, pennsylvania, new jersey and delaware are still fairly quiet, and, we are running down your mass transit checklist. patco running on time, back to normal here and then this morning, media elwyn line. however, ac rail line is still suspended but new jersey buses are cross honoring, erika. >> thanks, vittoria. philadelphiagation continues their trip in rome. today they met with the mayor in rome to discuss security for the pope when they come to the city of brotherly love this coming september. visit to get all of the information you need to know. new this morning military officials confirming that a f-16 has crash in the southern arizona desert. that plane went down last night around 11:00 o'clock our time. witnesses reported seeing a large fire in that area near the town of douglass arizona gas lines are making it difficult for fire crews to get close to the crash site, plane was part of the 162nd of the arizona air national guard. there are more charges in connection with the escape of two quick murderers from a new york prison. they have been on the run for three weeks. "eyewitness news" reporter nicole brewer is in the satellite center with the latest own this case nicole. >> reporter: that a arrest involves a 57 year-old corrections officer accused of delivering power tools to the prisoners hid men hamburger meat. his name is gene palmer and he is behind bars this morning charged with promoting prison contraband, tampering with physical evidence and official misconduct. in an interview earlier this

week palmer's attorney says he was not in on the plan. >> he definitely did not plan to help them escape and he had no prior knowledge that they were going to attempt an escape. >> now authorities believe that he worked in conjunction with fellow prison employee joyce mitchell who has pleaded not guilty to smuggling the tools into the prison which allowed two convicted murderers to escape. boy, was it an elaborate escape plan that involved sawing through their cell, busting through a brick wall, going through a pipe and making their way out of the lock manhole. police say they are desperate and should be considered armed and dangerous. that is very latest live from the cbs-3 news center, nicole brewer for "eyewitness news". meanwhile funeral services will be held for two of the nine victims and for the final shooting. more than 150 people, pack the

new jersey's supreme court has spoken but teachers and school employees still fear for their futures. because rather than solving the pension crisis the court says politicians can continue to ignore it. that's just wrong. teachers and school employees have paid billions into their pensions. but the state has failed. the legislature can fix what governor christie has broken - ... before it ends up costing billions more. it's time for fiscal responsibility. fund the pensions now.

good morning delaware county is still feeling effects of the fast moving storms tuesday night. fewer than 24,000 people are still without power this morning. >> in response shelter has been set up in brookhaven boro while crews repair down power lines. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabao joins us from brookhaven to tell us all bit. good morning. >> reporter: erika and ukee, good morning. activity at the shelter in brookhaven is expected to pick up in 90 minutes from now when breakfast is scheduled.

even though only a couple people stayed here overnight hundreds of people have been dropping by here throughout the day for three hot meals this area is largely still without power so people need food, and they also need a place to recharges specially recharge their phones. this is here in brookhaven. take a a look at the video, a lot of recharging is necessary today before people can get back out there. they have a long day of clean up. delaware county was hard hit by tuesday night's high wind and heavy rain, at the height of the storm county officials say more than a hundred thousand homes were without power and as you mentioned tens of thousands of peco customers are still in the dark. crews continued to remove those trees and down wires from the road and then many neighbors in delaware county are dealing with damage to their homes as well after storm toppled many trees. this shelter at boro hall has been serving three meals a day until power is back on. we have opened up the shelter here for our residents.

we're always here for them. we are a community with unity. we serve them food. they have shelter. they want to charge their phones. we're here for them. the spirits have been great. even they they have no power no showers no nothing. you know, everybody just pulls together and we just help one another here. >> reporter: happening at 11:00 o'clock this morning another shelter will open up, the philadelphia union is actually opening up ppl park, for people who need to come and take a shower, get a bite to eat and cool off and regroup as again another full day of clean up is away. we are live from brookhaven, jan carabao for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". damage is widespread in south jersey as well, we are hearing residents might not get their power back until sunday. that has some resident wondering big time how prepared power companies were for the storm. >> i don't know if they just didn't take it seriously if they knew what was coming

because even when you watched the weather, they talk about tornadoes, it is a a slow threat but they did mention high wind that they weren't really prepared, like if they were waiting for somebody to come up from maryland why isn't that person here already. >> utility crews from nearby states, are on their way once again to assist the efforts. katie is tracking a threat for more storms this afternoon. >> katie hopefully not as bad as tuesday. >> absolutely not. i do think we have potential to see steadier rain and heavier thunderstorms through southern tear of the area with the next disturbance coming in. you can see bright lights and flashing behind me, that is the background of the traffic i want to show you you going back in time and talking about what continues to be a problem with the storm damage. this is a very much the story of a general idea of the kind of damage that came from those storms. 5200 or so lightening strikes in the entirety of the storm. seventy to 85 miles an hour gusts, 75 different damage reports. the list was pages looking for

us. four separate funnel cloud. in addition, we did hear it was official a weak waterspout on the bay near brandt beach was also confirmed at this point . so thankfully that system is long gone. we are starting off with sunshine and blue skies with you eventually a new disturbance will move in currently barreling through mid western united states, and it will start to bring in some showers or thunderstorms for us later on today. i would say don't cancel your outdoor plans. generally we have a decent day underway here mid 80's the spectation, cloud rebuild and then we will see showers or thunderstorms firing up towards especially night fall and through southern tears of the area as that rain could be heavier and those storms could be locally strong. we will have more details on the impact that might have, time everything out for you more, as the the show progresses vittoria, over to you. good morning everyone. sun glare will be impacting your commute and rush hour, so lets get right outside and get right down to it.

we have had rush hour delays to talk b we will go first to the 42 freeway traveling on the 42 freeway in the north bound direction you'll notice a few more vehicles approaching 295, nothing major but something that you want to be mindful of. give it 20 to 25 minutes as it will get slower. southbound four you two are moving well. maybe heading down the shore. all of our majors to head down the shore look great ac x garden state parkway and we will take to you 476 at ridge. still looks good around here. i will say traveling on the blue route northbound between 95 and media is still okay averaging 55 miles per hour. different story for schuylkill, 19 there. seventeen on i-95. your two worst roadways right now are 76 and 95. this volume on the schuylkill is impacting roosevelt boulevard but we are seeing delays around center city and western suburbs. the rail line is still suspended but new jersey buses are cross honoring those tickets. now back to you in the desk.
