flood watches are in effect right now. severe storms to our south could track this way. let's get right over to meteorologist kate bilo. she's tracking it all in our cbs3 weather center. kate. >> thank you natasha. yeah, this is a large scale storm. as you can see as we take a look at satellite and radar together the center of this storm across ohio and you can see the warm front draped across our region. the cold front is still back here so we're in what's known as the warm sector of this storm. we have a little bit of everything are heavy rain, cool conditions and cloud cover to severe thunderstorms to the south. a few of these storms over portions of maryland, down through virginia have produced tornadoes or at least have been tornado warned in the past few hours. so we have to watch as these storms start to push into our region. here's a snapshot of what it looks like right now. heavy rain around philadelphia and the western suburbs. portions of montgomery county got over 3-inches of rain last night seeing another round of heavy rain and the rick for flooding tonight. these are the storms you want to watch pushing into portions of eastern maryland so if

you're in southern delaware that's the area sussex county, rehoboth beach even dover that's the area i'm concerned about as this line of storms moves in and we could be talking about severe weather not only damaging winds and heavy rain but also the threat for isolated tornadoes. the flood watch still in effect including philadelphia and new castle county delaware chester county, montgomery county and bucks county and the lehigh valley you remain in a flood watch anyplace in flood watch zone could see 2-inches of rain before that all is said and done. we have a tornado watch to the south. it all has to do with the position of the storm, where the warm front is draped you'll see mainly heavy rain to the north of that. tornado watch because of the severe weather to the south. as you get in the warm center of this storm when you get the wind sheer the wind direction beneath the warm front that's where you're looking at the threat for rotation. 7 o'clock still. showers continue even into sunday morning and looks like we may try to see some sun

later in the day sunday coming up i'll have the full eyewitness weather seven-day forecast and the latest on the rest of your weekend. for now, natasha back over to you. >> kate thank you so much. we'll see you soon. right now we have the latest on the power outage numbers. atlantic city electric is reporting 35,000 outages and pse&g has less than 2,000 customers without power. a montgomery county road is closed today because of a mudslide. this is balligomingo road in conshohocken. the mudslide happened this morning. luckily no one was injured. it's still not clear when the road will be back open. and authorities believe they are closing in on the second escaped killer still on the run in upstate new york. officers were searching for david sweat in a heavily wooded area in malone, franklin county, near the canadian border. that's where fellow escapee richard matt was shot to death by officers yesterday. this is all happening about 30 miles west of the prison the pair escaped from in clinton county three weeks

ago. also police in camden are looking for a killer tonight. two people were shot shortly before 5:00 this morning near the 1400 block of rose street. the victims were rush to the hospitalized. 31-year-old devon boyd died of his injuries. the other victim is expected to survive. police have not named any suspects just yet. anyone with information should contact camden police right away. amid calls for south carolina to remove the confederate flag from capitol grounds and one woman took matters into her own hands today. she climbed up a 30-foot flag pole and took it down herself. cbs news correspondent wendy gillette has the details. >> ma'am, ma'am, get down the pole. bree newsome ignored police orders early saturday and kept climbing a 30-foot flag pole in front of the south carolina statehouse. the 30-year-old from charlotte reached the top and unhooked the confederate flag.

>> oppression and violence. >> reporter: then she climbed down with the flag. as soon as she reached the ground she was arrested along with man helping her identified as 30-year-old james tyson also a charlotte resident. both were charged with deface ago a monument. 45 minutes later a new confederate flag was raised and once again flying in front of the statehouse. the controversy over the flag ignite at the last week following the massacre of nine people attending a bible study at a charleston church. police have characterized the killings as a racist attack. south carolina's governor has called for the flag to be removed from the statehouse. >> ♪ >> reporter: on saturday, three more funerals were held in the same church where the victims were killed. the first was for 54-year-old cynthia herd a long time librarian in the city who was remembered as a tireless public servant. 87-year-old susie jackson and 26-year-old tywanza sanders were also laid to rest.

"eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff has that part of the story. >> can you see the pattern. >> reporter: sadness and anger brought dozens out to the corner of broad and erie emotions provoked by the racially fueled killing of nine church members in charleston. >> we have to allow this state for space for people to deal with their feelings. >> reporter: titled the philly charleston solidarity march the event focused on highlighting injustice and combating racism. >> and unless we are willing to fight for what we want, then we don't truly want it at all. >> reporter: participants took their message to broad street which was shut down for an afternoon for a parade of people led by photos of the charleston nine can't let the rain stand in your way. >> reporter: the weather proved no distraction and at

>> welcome back. the threat of more severe weather threatens to inflict even more pain on families trying to recover from this week's damaging storms. steve patterson is live in

mickleton gloucester county tonight with the details. steve. >> reporter: natasha it has always been my dream to set foot insides a tree house. today a perfect example of be careful for what you wish for. i'm on top of about a 200 year old tree, it has come down, uprooted and we're joining you live from the home of joe knock man near mickleton new jersey uprooted and landed on his home. you can see the damage that has done. this happened about tuesday night. the tree wiping out most of the roof destroying the chimp northeast it's pierced the third floor with its branches and joe showed us the damage this afternoon inside. he's done a great job patching it up up there but he says his home has been like this since it happened. he and his wife called several tree companies but as you might imagine everybody in this area right now is swamped. so, not a great outlook for the current situation we're in. especially considering the rain now coming down. it just came out to us, gave

us an update and says it's not as bad as it could be because of the patch work he did up there but it's certainly raining buckets inside his home. we asked him if there's anything that we need to do, put pressure maybe on some of the tree companies the insurance companies. he said really he just would like for people to see this and to say if they can help donate a tarp or get some help getting any protection on the home right now he'd really appreciate it. but again, could have been a whole lot worse than it was. his wife was home at the time. said it sounded like a freight train coming through the living room. came down on his home and did basic cosmetic damage to the roof a little bit of structural damage but certainly not as bad as it could have been. meanwhile though he's still waiting for some service to come here and to get this tree removed. as you see not helping with the rain coming down at this point right now. it's the latest from mickleton. we'll have an update on how this story progresses but for now we're live here. i'm steve patterson, cbs3

"eyewitness news." back to you. >> steve be careful up there. we appreciate that. a montana family meantime had quite the close encounter when some bears decided they wanted to hitch a ride with them. a grisly latched onto the family's car just outside of cook city. the driver david peter jumped out of the car to take pictures. >> which way is he going. five seconds of inattention that was what i was really not good. it could have been a disaster. >> peter says the bears were not aggressive just curious. the kids were in the car with him at the time and he says they were more excited than scared. i'm scared just looking at that. the work does continue to get momma duck back in action for philadelphia's tall ships festival. it has been quite the task there. momma duck is huge. "eyewitness news" was along the philadelphia-camden waterfront today as crews continued to reinflate her

after fixing its hair. thursday she had to be pulled ashore after she somehow got damaged. momma duck weighs in at 11 tons and measures a whopping 61 feet tall. lots of work to be done there. today is the kickoff of the annual welcome america festival in philadelphia. the shops at liberty place hosted family day. young people enjoyed activities celebrating the 150 anniversary of the first reading of alice in wonder land. they let their creativity shine with tons of arts and crafts as the region prepares to celebrate america's birthday on the fourth of july. >> good aways. it's been a great kickoff. face painting. the kids are excited. we have performers. it's been a wonderful kickoff so far and start to the whole festival. >> walk see a full list of the welcome america events at our web site cbsphilly.com. the events are free. talk about a diamond in the rough here. a woman from colorado found

this diamond in an arkansas state park. visitors are allowed to look for and keep the diamonds. this one is the fifth largest unearthed in the park since 1972. it's 8.52 carats. the name of the park is the crater of diamonds and more than 225 diamonds have been found in this year alone. and you get to keep that. that would be lovely. >> yes. >> i could definitely do something with that. all right, kate bilo is in for us. so good to see you. it's nasty out today. >> this storm has produced nasty weather across the country. we saw it in the midwest. i think we have some video from monday see indiana where the rain came through. look at this flooding halfway through the road signs. this is the kind of flooding don't want to mess with. that's delaware county indiana, not pennsylvania but in pennsylvania some problems as well. we had flooding last night. you can see of course the cars on the road right there. not good to be driving through that. that guy shouldn't be doing

it. we say turn around don't drive. never drive through a flooded roadway but problems out there this evening. let's look at what's happening closer to home. this is our pocono camera. i want to show you both the rain that's falling and also the gusty winds the branches and trees have really been blowing this afternoon and we're seeing it all crocks the region. get some reports that that people are losing power. in fact at my house as well after 38 hours without power from the last storm the power is now out again and we're hearing reports all across the region that the power is going as the wind maybe blows off those loose branches in the wake of tuesday's severe weather event. storm scan3 showing satellite and radar together here. this storm is widespread. the cold front is back to the west. before this exits we've got to wait for the cold front to get through. the warm front and the warm sector of this storm causing all the problems tonight. we're talking about heavy rain and severe thunderstorms anywhere you see that red shading there especially right now in eastern maryland, that's where some of these storms are severe. this one here and further to

the south as well, both of these are severe at the moment. these will move into portions of delaware. if you're from dover down to rehoboth beach you'll seat potential for damaging storms this evening especially in those areas and that could cross into extreme south jersey. we had a severe thunderstorm warning for york and lancaster counties in pennsylvania. any of this rain it looks like heavy rain but it could actually turn briefly severe with damaging winds across the area so not only watch for flooding just maybe spend the night indoors if you can find some indoor activities to do maybe put a movie on and don't venture out in this. a flood watch remains in effect a couple flood advisories in areas that got hit hard last night. a tornado watch in kent and sussex counties in delaware and also portions of eastern maryland. what to expect tonight? periods of rain continue, over 2-inches possible in spots. again poor drainage flooding. we're watching smaller creeks and streams. if you live in an area that's phone flood if you live along one of our smaller creeks and streams expect those areas to be flooded tonight. river flooding however is not

expected. now you can see this bull's-eye. over 3-inches of rain in portions of montgomery county. flash flood warnings were issued. you can see the past 24 hours these spots have the go 10 more rain. we're looking at over 4-inches in that bull's-eye in montgomery county. over a inch has fallen philadelphia. some spots seeing over 2-inches of rain and it comes coming through tonight. by about 2:00 a.m. starts to get a bit more scattered. 8:00 a.m. tomorrow we see the last of the showers move out. here's 1:00 p.m., i think we'll see a little bit of sunshine return as we go through our sunday afternoon but not before a general total of two to 3 inches of rainfalls across the vast majority of our area so not a great night to be out and about and again that severe threat remains in place especially off to our south and west. overnight rain and thunderstorm. watch for flooding. we're at 69 degrees. morning showers sunday. then we see some sun. we may be able to salvage some outdoor time this weekend. monday looks great, mostly sunny, shower or thunderstorm tuesday 87. a shower possible on went many

wednesday as well. thursday sun and clouds at 82 degrees and another chance for a shower friday and i know it's early and i should have put the flag on there and i will tonight at 10:00 and 11 ooh. :but saturday of course the fourth of july independence day and it's an early forecast but as of right now we'll be optimistic and say 86 degrees, good deal of sunshine. looks like a pretty nice forecast at least for now. >> great news. thank you so much. >> you're welcome. >> appreciate it. game two of the series between the nationals and the phillies at citizens bank park. the game got under way just after 3 o'clock this afternoon. it wasn't long, though, before the game was that rained out because of our weather. take you to the action now which didn't last very long. second inning ben revere goes back to the wall and makes the leaping catch. pitcher adam morgan lovers it but after that the rain came and the delays started. the game has been postponed now. there will be a double-header starting tomorrow at 1:05. to the flyers finishing up rounds two through seven of the draft today. they selected four forward and three goalies. in addition they announced

they hired a goalie coach. then they announce add major trade. the flyers traded nick grossman and chris pronger's contract to arizona for forward sam gagne an draft pick. they clear out major draft space with this deal. if they save gagne they'll save $5 million. if they buy him out they can save almost $8 million. gagne is 25 years old scored 15 goals had 26 assists last season for arizona. sixers with draft night on thursday, today they introduced their newest players to philadelphia and here they are. jahlil okafor, rash shown combs and jp. the sixers selected five players, two were overseas players. they shocked some by picking okafor and not picking any point guards or shooting guards in the draft. but all the players are extremely excited to have the opportunity to play in
