better, so you'll be outside. you'll go i can't believe the lawn has grown this much in 12 hours. but with all of the rain, and the sunshine that we should be seeing later today you will be doing a lot of work outside, as well. so this is just a time, if you can stay home. you know what? i think if your power went out briefly as mine did yesterday now all of the clocks are blinking, then think of people who have been without power for three four, five days, you go oh, boy you know what, things can be worse. and today they can be better and will be bitter. the trend is for brightening. even finding little that far bright never in the shore ours doesn't look just spectacular there but that is actually better looking picture, little bit more light filtering through, better look at the shore, you can see things changing little bit. this is view from cape may courthouse. improving weather on the way shall shower moving out of here, we will be finding clouds following them out

then some sun breaks, temperature 67 our at the airport, 68 in wilmington, 64 in trenton this morning, in the 70s to the south. team luster will vary, 81 around philadelphia, south jersey, but if are through some our northern sections, of bucks, montgomery counties, that sort of thing lehigh, berks county, probably see these temperatures stopping in the mid to upper 70s. briefly run this through, you can see by 11:00 this morning, we start to see some break ups of the clouds, and by this afternoon finding even more of that still cannot totally rule out scattered shower moving through the rest of the the day, a lot better than yesterdayment check out the seven day just ahead. >> thank goodness for, that carol. thank you. >> saturday's storm pack plenty of high wind, enough to bring this tree down in

southwest philadelphia, no one was hurt, so that's some good news, but the road shutdown while crews dealt with that mess. >> now thousands more are in dark this morning because of the storms, right now atlantic city electric has just over 2,000 outages peco reporting similar numbers again just little over 2,000 and pse&g has a little more than 2400 customers still without power. really feel for those folks this morning. compounding problems for families still dealing with the damaging storms that happened earlier this week. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson was in gloucester county, to see how people there are coping with all of it. in the middle of saturday rainstorm, clean up kept up, from a wednesday win storm. in gloucester county only noise deep enough to cut through sheet of rain hitting the grounds is this. hard earned money burning away with the low hum. it is day four here, without power. like cabin fever right now. >> tired resident, carl, has

been holdup in his own home since the storm hit. eggs learning just how different the world is off the grid. >> i haven't heard television, hadn't heard radio don't really know what's going on on the outside. other than for the paper that just started coming four at a time. outage estimate remain in the tens every thousands whole communities, east greenwich in the dark for days. >> make or mark heads distributing, son january decided to spend the day helping his neighbor, one of the homes on his street that took significant tree damage. tough for mark, incomprehensible for jack. >> four to five days. >> how has that been? >> not that good. >> and just down the road, the knockman home. >> it was like thousands of rocks hitting the wall.

road, martin luther king drive. the amateur try rock series is well underway, 1700 athletes participating today, 1600 yesterday at the event and the pros are sort of doing their laps as we speak. weather you can see, you can see the folks sort of riding the race despite the weather. triathelon converted into duathlon after the city declared the schuylkill river unsafe for swimming. now most of the athletes i spoke with slightly disappointed from the change, but understood the safety concerns five years ago prospect park resident died during the swimming portion of the race, so the safety concerns are real, so instead of swim, bike and run the athletes will do a 24.8-mile bike ride follow by 6.2-mile run, but back out here live, i have to say, that the bick chunk of this race is to race money for great cause. i'm here with peter, johnson &

johnson, you guys raised a lot of money today. >> sure did we have over 750 retirees athlete and volunteers here, between yesterday and today. all their effort raised over $500,000 for chop. i can't think of greater way for us to align our mission. >> wonderful. so you're very passionate. everyone i spoke to said this is like your pet project. why are you so passionate about it? i lover the fact to get our employees in such a great cause. i am one of the health champions, so i have to make sure i'm out there. yesterday my first my first attempt at a part of the try rock, so did i part of a run and i tried to be role model for the employees, but real heroes here are the patient and the kids who get the real benefit of these funds and our employees at j and j. >> wonderful. people out here doing a bike,

as well as run some folks are doing a relay so they only do one portion of that. >> first timers experience, folks doing in wheelchairs doing hand propelled biking and running, so, this is exciting event. people will get wet. and remember, the race goes all down martin, mlk drive kelly drive expect road closures but a loft fun live music, lots going on, then all for good cause. >> good heads up. more power to them. cherry, thank you. it is 8:07 right now. new this morning philadelphia police are investigating the cause after deadly car crash in southwest philadelphia overnight. this accident happened just before 3:00 at the intersection of lindbergh boulevard and island avenue. the male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. now, police say, that car failed to negotiate a turn, and slammed right into a pole. ogontz neighborhood, firefighters called to the six

a hundred block of north beechwood street around 7:00 last night. it took several minutes to bring the flames inside that two story rowhouse under control. no injuries, and the cause is under investigation. >> also, police in camden, now looking for a killer. two people were shot early saturday morning, near the 1400 block of rose street. the victims were rushed to the hospital, 31 year old javon boyde died of his injuries. the other victim is expected to survive. police haven't named any suspect, but anyone with information should contact police. >> more than a thousand law enforcement office remembers spread out in up-state new york taking part in a mant hunt for david sweat. police shot and killed his partner on friday. cbs news correspondent kenneth craig with the latest on the manhunt, from malone, new york. >> police set up a 22 square mile perimeter in malone saturday, to find the loan fugitive, david sweat. it is about 30 miles from the maximum security prison, where sweat, and richard matt,

escaped three weeks ago. richard matt's live onment ends came to deadly end friday. police corner him after camper reported shots being fired at a vehicle in the area. matt found near a car inch owned by the willits family. fred will it said called police after he noticed sag miss. >> went into the house he heard the shots down in the woods when they were after him. law epp forsment officials say matt was armed and refused to surround ender. >> police believe they are closing in on sweat. they say he's now alone desperate, could make a mistake lead to go his capture resident concerned for their safety. >> never lock the doors windows, now we have tonight you don't know where he is going to be. >> no actual sitings of sweat but authorities have a hunch he's somewhere cold, and alone, in these woods. in malone, new york, kenneth craig, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> gunfire breaks out in packed crowd and all caught

on camera. we'll show you the video just ahead. >> also, learning more about a huge fire overseas left hundreds, every people badly injured, broke out at crowded dance party. what sparked the flames. then pennsylvania man bit by shark off the coast of south carolina that's not the only shark attack we're hearing about this weekend. we'll have the details whether we come back.

>> gunfire disrupts a pride festival in down ton san francisco. take a look. can you imagine? police say at lows one person was injured and taken to a local hospital. the shooting took place saturday afternoon at van francisco civil plaza one

witness described the scene as recall bullet began flying. yes, i heard at least three four gunshots, and looked over to see two collapse with guns pulled, and everybody crouching, and rushing around. so, at that time, i just got low, and waited until things died down, got out as soon as possible. >> police detained three suspect, at threes three guns from the scene. the vendor hit in the arm was taken to the hospital. saying he is expected to survive, at last check he was in stable condition. but, still very scary. injury toll, following a fire at a water park. fire broke out on a music stage and spread to spectator a lot of people affected by this, 183 people seriously injured, 400 hurt. many of the wounded were rushed out of the park on inner tubes, investigators say, the fire started by an

accidental explosion some kinds of colored theatrical prouder. >> pennsylvania man recovering from shark attack off the coast of south carolina one every two shark attacks, that happened in the region this weekend, happen friday, 40 year old man from pennsylvania reportedly swimming back to shore, after spot that shark. so good idea there. paramedics say second shark bit him on the right foot. local marine officials say encounters with sharks can be avoided. local wawa, jellyfish sharks, shuffle your feet in the sand, they'll typically scare off the continue rakes and sharks. >> paramedics say the shark bite left a man with a ruptured artery in his foot. they say he is out of surgery and is now in stable condition. but, a shark also attacked a 17 year old boy, off the coast of north carolina. park rangers there say the teen was bitten on his right calf. his buttock, both of his hands

while swimming in the outer banks, park service says the unidentified teenager then airlifted to a virginia hospital. right now there is no word on his condition. so i'm hoping he's okay. >> wow. last thing you want to do, go to the beach ends up being medivac out. >> horrible. >> terrible. you know, we have some improving weather finally today, second half of the weekend can be salvaged. nicole and i are thrilled, clouds breaking little bit. ben franklin bridge area, doesn't look terrific, but actually looks better than it did before. we go for that with improvement. take a look, at this. this is ocean city, you can see things, where you couldn't before. you can almost pick up brightening. you could almost muster up a shadow i think. there could be enough sunlight doing. that will later today find even more sunlight. now we head out to the cape may courthouse area, do you remember this morning? if you have been watching there is we've been following the progress of the clouds out

there. lifting, gone, blue skies out here see a loft clouds. and i'll show you on storm scan3 what that means that means this is rid there. so seeing those clouds off the coast, but, it is off the coast fortunately headed in the right direction, out of here, most of the rain is on the same way out. few more, not a big deal, after yesterday we will handle anything. two, 4 inches every rain generally -- generally over the area. so today, if you pick up brief stray isolated shower that would be it. clouds also on their way out. temperatures are on their way up. we see them in the 60s right now, along this i95 corridor, 55 in the poconos, head to south jersey, millville back in the 07 degrees range wildwood 72 degrees. this will be nice day much better day than what we've encountered.

rainfall totals, in case you are not bail water, put down your bucket, see what other people got in the rainfall totals. chatsworth, four and a half inches every rain, vineland, over 4 inches of rain, folsome, all of these in new jersey follow some, through atlantic county, three and a half, atlantic city with the record 2.37, mt. holly 2.15. county seat of burlington county and where the national weather service s they do great job out there. here we go. when the rainfall fell, all totaled up by doppler highest amounts in new jersey, you can see them, right through portions of cumberland, salem counties and ocean county, tip of burlington county, lot of rain in the four, 5-inch range. and everybody else, dealing with a lot of rain out there 2 inches plus, every place that you see the yellow. so, it was raining every place, and it was a widely scattered rainfall. now, computer model is a

thousand% right this morning. i don't often say that as you know because i will be very critical of the computer model. with we put it into motion, see wants to bring still couple of clouds around, hang they will out. notice delaware, clearing out notice wildwood clearing out. notice some breaks in other locations, we will find that increasingly going through the afternoon. >> also light spotty shower, couple of spots will see those, do not let that deter from your outdoor plans today. get more sun break moving through tonight, sunsets won't even know what's going on, but tomorrow we will know what's going on, because as the sunrises tomorrow it will rise tomorrow. you will see it, as well, because we will have clear skies. then by the time we get to tuesday, another shot, computer model says in the afternoon, maybe the evening on tuesday and maybe a lot of it to the north and the west. so, we will continue to monitor. that will could be dealing with more showers on wednesday, as well. but, let's not get ahead of

ourselves. improving weather today 80 degrees here, shore poconos, about 10 degrees cooler 70 degrees, winds out of the west ten to 15 miles an hour, which will be refreshing light breeze, and at least drying direction. tonight we drop down to 62 degrees, partly cloudy. it will be breezy, we stay in the 80s and generally dealing with fairly decent weather but, there are some showers and thunderstorm chances primarily tuesday and wednesday, at this point. but maybe even again on friday. monday looks nice. >> weaned something. >> right. >> all right, carol, thank you. 8:19. we check in with ann with the goods on the roads what's going on, ann? >> nicole, look telling vine street expressway, right at the schuylkill, vine expressway to the middle of your screen, just had accident cleared from here. good to go, and the rain stopping that heavy pelting so the rain actually leaving the area like carol was

talking about leaving our highways more importantly and our highways are get getting to be in good shape. we move the traffic cam here to i95 the airport now despite the ominous sky that you're seeing, i95 in pretty good shape through philadelphia and it suburbs highway drying here earlier no delays on 59 through philadelphia or it suburbs move the traffic cam again, to the mid-county tolls of the pa turnpike mid-county tolls in fine shape further up, no delays on the pa turnpike. if you are headed to the poconos, earlier we had accident around the quakertown area that's since been cleared on the northeast text n sean in pretty good shape. looking at public transportation septa's media elwin line still suspended until further notice. that is due to weather conditions mass transit on or close to schedule, the patco high-speed line, and that's the latest from the cbs-3 traffic center i'm ann evans nicole back to you. >> ann, thank youment check this out.

montana family had quite the close end court err, will you look at this, this video? >> bears decide they want to hitch a ride with a car so they latched on, all happening outside of cook city. david peters rolling on all of this, jump many out of his car to take pictures, not advised but, peters says that the bears were not aggressive, just casino of curious as to with a was happening there. his kids were in the car with him, and he says more excited than scared. goodness, that's something to see. >> hey fireworks will light up the sky tonight over penn's landing, saturday's heavy rains worth postponement of all of that. also work continues to get mama duck back in action for philadelphia's tall ships festival a lot of people looking forward to seeing this thing, and unfortunately she deflated. so trying to repair that tear, and get her back on the water

brewer. coming up on 8:00 port we had a lot every rain yesterday. hopefully things clear out today watch can we expect for the rest of the day? >> a lot bert. already a lot better. we started out little gloomy this morning nicole, not just our moods, because of the weather, but the weather itself. but, it is starting to break you will little bit. so i think your mood may be, as well. let's take an a look outside the window, what is that? is that blue? how can that be? it has been gray all morning yes, still have few clouds, but they don't look atom just as they did earlierment things are breaking up little bit. you can really see the difference if you have been watching this morning through ocean sit people now out on the beaches, at this point and they've got their lawn chairs, looking at ocean that's roaring in at this point with moderate risk of rip current. but also the skies are starting to brighten, and they are starting to brighten at the whitfield elementary school enough sun to maybe work on their little view of the ocean big puddle out on the playgrounds that should be drying up, as women today. westerly winds will take care of a lot of the standing water. our storm scan3 showing the

improvement. right now the showers out of the area. oh isn't that a noise view for a sunday after all of the rain that we've seen? expect to find continuing improvement today. that said, an isolated stray here or there light shower, not completely out of the picture, but generally do not cancel any of your outdoor plans today. sixty-six in philadelphia, 64 trenton, 68 in wilmington, 61 up in the allentown area, in the 70s through south jersey, and we're on our way through philadelphia by the time we hit 3:00 this afternoon 81 degrees, improving weather all day long, and if you are montgomery, bucks county, may be in the mid to upper 70s for your high temperature, but still, it is better than it was yesterday. we love that improvement. and i think tomorrow may be better than today. we will check out the rest of the seven day stomping up. >> i like the sound of that, carol, thank you. well, weaver been talking about the soggy weekend weather. it has impacted major triathelon in fairmount park this morning heavy rains forced organize tears cancel

one leg that far race. cherri gregg from our sister station "kyw news radio", is at memorial hall, talk to us about this race, how is it changing what's happened out there right now? >> the triathelon now duathlon. swimming portion of the race is canceled because the city of philadelphia declared the schuylkill river unsafe for swimming today. but as you can see the athletes are making the best of it. amateur portion of the rain has already gun making their laps around and the remaining portions of the race, which include 25-mile bike ride, 6-mile run, all down mlk drive and kelly drive today. >> released from the starting line one by one to prevent any major spills. because, the safety concerns, are real.

they're as debris along the route that the organizers try to clean up, but given the heavy rains there but so much they can do. puddles folks have to avoid. but the swim portion was a major portion. many of the athletes i spoke to, are slightly disappointed by the change but going to make the best of it today. casino of exciting but very comforting to know they are so worried about safety. >> this weather the roads being the way they're going to be, the climate on this course, just going to be unbelievable out there. >> so lots of fun and adventure, ill want to mention that five years ago prospect park resident, derrick valentine open, died during the swimming portion of the race, so cancelling the swim portion ensures that everyone stays out of the chopper waters of the schuylkill, and i should mention we spoke to the representative from johnson & johnson earlier this race is also about

raising money for a good cause. more than a half million dollars, had a been raised for the benefit of chop. lot of fun lot of spectators, live music food event and lot of fun. back to you nicole. >> i love to hear that. such a great cause and you're right, safety first the best call. thanks so much. after taking matters into her own hands saturday, to remove confederate flag outside the state capitol climbed up the 30-foot flag pole, just took it down herself. cbs news correspondent wendy jill it with the details. >> ignored police orders early saturday, kept climbing 30-foot flag pole in front of the south carolina state house. the 30 year old from charlotte reached the top unhook the confederate flag.

>> theming she climbed down with the flag. >> as soon as she reached the grounds, she was arrested, along with a man helping her identified as james tyson also charlotte resident. both charged deface ago monument. about 45 minute later new confederate flag was raised and once again flying in front. state house. the controversy over the flag ignited last week, fog massacre at bible study. police have characterized the killings as racist attack. south carolina governor had called for the flag to be removed from the state house. sat tray three for funerals held in the same church where the victims were killed. the first was for 54 year old cynthia heard long time librarian in the city, who was remembered as a tireless public servant. taiwan also, laid to rest.

ocean county, burlington county portions of atlantic county, cape may didn't really get into it, but cumberland did and gloucester, camden counties, portions of those and several inches of rain, at least in every other location. i showed you that, and then show this for a reason, because this is casino of perspective maker. this is california's drought. this isn't rain. they wish that this indicated how much rain they had gotten. instead there is indicates how dry they are. they are now in an extreme drought. and there is no getting out of this drought for awhile. we move over into our neck of the woods and all of the rain that we've seen has left everybody in fine shape we've got not dry at all maybe north of allentown, i bet when they start total up the rainfall up there hopefully that goes away, but through our area no problems at all with drought. we've seen enough rain. in fact, 4 inches over on the rainfall total just this month. future weather completely on

duathlon, because of the weather conditions. so we move the traffic cam here, we will move it to i59 at the platt bridge. now, no delays on i95 this morning. it is in fine shape. earlier we had an accident. it is all been cleared. i95, the platt and through philadelphia and it suburbs looks okay. it is getting crowded but it is moving. we move the track cam again to the ben franklin bridge. still that water those water drops against the lens, but other than that the ben franklin bridge is in good shape, and no delays or problems, we do have construction still in the westbound lanes however this is heading into philadelphia, right lane closed, but right now volume is too light for it to have an effect. now on the 42 freeway up ahead, road construction, new road construction layout between creek road and 295. if you're shore bound, no problems on 55, the a.c. expressway or the garden state parkway. >> entrances to the shore point look good, towns let inlet is open today. so you can get to sea isle
