6:00 pm
oh, no. that isn't in the water, obvious ly. but that is dead. that one is going to be unbelievably difficult up and down. just before that, graham delaet playing his second. peter: this was from 139 yards, and wouldn't bubba like to have one of these two? ian: oh, boy would he ever. two beautiful shots in from delaet and harman. that's the difference when you knock it on the fairway here. it's an intimidating tee shot. >> looked like he hit a rock there, because the ball curved in the air left to right. a hook.
6:01 pm
he's right over there between the bunkers and travelers marquee. he'd have to fire a high lob. really really difficult shot here peter. i'm sure you'll get up there shortly and check out that lie, but it is not going to be easy. i think this hole just continues to play on his mind, peter. he doesn't know whether to play safe on the tee or attack. nick: plus, ian with graham in there he knows he's stairing at a two-shot swing. if graham can get to 15, bubba comes back to 16, and then we've got some drama at the last. ian: exactly. he doesn't know where paul casey is, does he? nick: probably only by the score
6:02 pm
board he knows he's 16 and -- ian: yes but he doesn't know he has this bunker shot and here we are. jim: and there's zach johnson coming out of that bunker. very similar to what casey will face right here. nick: we've been talking all day, the sand's a little heavy but -- jim: it is heavy but beautifully done. nick: looks like he's going to get in the top half at 16. jim: back to 17. >> what a fantastic shot that was from paul casey. peter: this lie is not too bad for bubba. >> ok. peter: that's the good news. bad news is he's only going to put 12 feet of green between the bunker and the hole. it's downhill moving away. >> you just saw the graphic. this is tough. going high.
6:03 pm
did he get under it? very fast left-to-right putt from 15 feet for his par. and of course, we saw the two shots then from delaet and harman they're inside. check this out. he had a little upsurge, as you see, but he tried to hoist it up high. peter: that's where he had to make his mistake. he couldn't risks the other shot. >> really is a slippery green here. toughest hole on the golf course today, remind you. there's been a few birdies but always the opportunity for some bogeys and doubles. but the key is the drive. because you can get the short to mid-iron with some spin there --
6:04 pm
some spin in there. peter: you've been sitling here all day, but it's got a pretty considerable amount of bend on it doesn't it? frank: yeah. i would say five or six feet of bend. and the last six feet is extremely fast. the players that have gone long, peter, that have been going straight down to where graham delaet is standing, barely touch the ball when it gets to the hole. that tells me that this one has an extraordinary amount of break. just to mine taken a one-shot advantage.
6:05 pm
[captioning funded by cbs sports division] [captioning performed by the national captioning institute, which is responsible for its caption content and accuracy. visit ncicap.org] we saw how much that broke. it is not an easy putt. all in all a pretty good effort. he'll go back to 16 under. >> i'm going to go back to why did he hit driver on 15 and why did he hit driver on 17? i don't think -- i'm sure he could have made a different score with 3-iron on both those two tee shots. ian: i agree with you, nick, he has so much length. as i said even a 5-iron. nick: well, that -- just get it to front edge. and then 17, he hit his 7-wood yesterday, he's got 7-wood or 3-iron in the bag one of those
6:06 pm
two. but i couldn't see why the driver. peter: well 15, 17 and 18 are all playing back into the breeze today, which they haven't done this week. perhaps that's part of the question. i don't know. nick: brian brine is almost in the mix. really needs to hole his second. jim: start thinking of all the possibilities, that's stepping in for a birdie. who knows where he's going to be walking off surrendering at least one. here's casey for the up and down saver from the sand . to post 264. frank: well, that's in and he may not know what that might mean to him the way bubba's
6:07 pm
going. jim: back too 17. bubba makes his five there huh? frank: he did jim. that's a disappointing five a little unlucky you could say with the rock. he played a very good pitch accepts the bogey. and you can see this was just earlier. bubba's coin's still there. a good birdie for graham delaet. he's 15 under. casey and watson lead at 16 under. always an exciting finish here at the travelers. it never ceases to amaze me how difficult these last four holes can play around the lake. jim: well, we've talked from the beginning about hey there's a stretch here at the end. that brings on all kinds of drama and excitement. aged you know, the early going here, we didn't see a lot of things happening, but boy has it started simmering in the last hour. and a good one's broken out here
6:08 pm
again at the travelers championship. nick: finally started with bubba eagling 13. jim: yeah. nick: personally, i would want another go at the way i played 15 and 17 if i was him. i'm sure he could do anything different to come up with a different score. jim: for a while he had a three-shot lied. nick: yeah. jim: now he comes here tied with casey. slow start today but then he's turned it around after an opening double bogey playing four under ever since that time. peter: eyeing a birdie by bubba at the final hole. paul casey he's not going to like this one. frank: up on the hillsides. that's way up high. jim: we've seen the likes of
6:09 pm
luke donald, bo van pelt. i believe it's in there. peter: i think this is playing longer than it did yesterday which would sflin -- explain the absence of birdies nick. nick: yeah. the second shot is being played from about 175 yards. jim: up hill into the wind, soft conditions. he reached for a little something extra there did harman. nick: like it. jim: and now what is bubba's confidence level with this club as he stands here tied? peter: it can't be very good. because he's not really struck them very consistently. nick: yeah. peter: this one is going full bore. frank: he's aiming far far
6:10 pm
straighter now. nick: a dink -- didn't try a dinky cut. just went for the bullet and did it really well. jim: a lot more comfortable didn't it, to just let it rip. nick: yeah. jim: in the fairway and deep. tied with casey.
6:11 pm
6:12 pm
jim: the travelers championship is sponsored by -- jim: the greenbrier classic on cbs next saturday and sunday. we look forward to bringing you all the coverage. from that beautiful resort, greenbrier classic. where that field awaits us coming up on july 4 weekend. bubba, on his way to 62. ask ted scott to go up there and attend the flag. i think this would gone in. >> i agree. frank: these conditions have
6:13 pm
really changed. nick: bubba has gone 2le 7. jim: how is that peter kostis, compared to yesterday? peter: i paced it off he's 47 yards behind his tee shot. this is a significantly different hole than we've seen all week long. frank: bryan's got 185. jim: we have the led up there on the right hillside. what's his situation going to be? graham delaet -- harman is going to go first. does he have a good lie? peter: brian harman is asking which tway green breaks. this is a 5-iron he's practicing with. >> he's playing a close to 200-yard shot.
6:14 pm
>> oh, come on! >> that's a good shot. sat down. yeah. jim: there's paul casey with little baby lex. nick: lex has the yardage -- got the pin sheet, rather. fortunately, he's far enough back he's got a shot. peter: i think he can clear the lip, especially if he has a little bit of a cut. but the condition of the bunkers with the rain, it's nestled down again and you don't know what's going to happen on contact. jim: he said he couldn't be between -- it couldn't be more between two clubs. >> if he'd go with the one open
6:15 pm
the face a bit aim down left. >> i know this might feel a little much. >> i agree. peter: just inside of 180 yards, 179. he is going with the extra club, nick. nick: i agree with that. just open the blade a touch power fade. oh. oh, boy. wow. >> went a long way didn't it? >> how'd it get there? jim: the extra club. >> that did well. jim: and now bubba with -- a shot right down the middle.
6:16 pm
he's got 157. peter, is he ready to seize this moment you think? peter: well, he's going to take dead aim i can assure you that. frank: well, that would inspire him. uh-oh. by golly that is really difficult to get up and down from there. jim: fortunately it settles at the bottom of it. >> it's steep, very steep and slow going up. jim: what did you see there peter? peter: i don't know if he had too much club or what. that's the worse he's made all day. nick: yeah. a little short. got to have that the -- you got to get your -- for us, your left shoulder right under your chin. even if it's a hard shot, you still got to keep your turn
6:17 pm
going. wow. paul casey you never know what's going to happen. the pin sheet for today. jim: in the scorer's tent with baby lex how about this for dreary conditions today? >> yeah, the fans love it up here. it's a great sporting area. and it's good entertainment. >> they're 20 deep on the left-hand side of this green, and more. jim: they might be sticking around for a little bonus action. if bubba gets up and down. we'll be having a playoff that
6:18 pm
would go back to 18. delaet is going to be the first to play here. of course, he has his sights on chipping in and joining casey and watson. peter: his ball nestled down a considerable bit, so this will have to be a ball back in the stands lofted club type bump-and-run. nick: yeah. it will trap it, get it to release, lean into it. he's got plenty of room to make a decision on where to land it. but that's -- they've had three birdies at this hole, so he's got to pull off a miracle shot here. jim: through the years we've seen a lot of wild happenings on sunday at the 18th, shots holed from off the green. paul azinger to win norman brown to win. chris stroud to force a playoff with ken duke.
6:19 pm
so delaet is finishing strong and would love to join that list of 18th hole hold-outs. nick: didn't sound good. jim: gonna go? nick: no. he tried to help it up a touch. jim: maybe bubba will be the one that will have designs on a close-out hole-out. peter: bubba's pulled the putter out of his bag which i think is the prudent play, but it will be brian harman next to play just a little further away. jim: in that swell area peter how many times you think he gets up and down? peter: apart from the moment, i don't think it's that difficult of an up and down.
6:20 pm
nick: the pace might get him. peter: yeah. nick: if he overjudges it either way, he doesn't get to it or he gets five feet past. cloirn nick: get there. oh yes! jim: birdies 17 and 18. depending on what watson does, that could actually finish as high to tie for second. bubba will be next, though. he's won once this season. it was in china. and he holed an amazing bunker
6:21 pm
shot at the 72nd hole to force the playoff and then went on to win it. beat tim clark in the playoff. peter: this is all about how the ball comes through the flynn building. jim: yeah. >> best club in the bank for distance control -- in the bag for distance control. jim: hole it, you win it. two putts for the playoff. nick: as i said, there's a choice of two. that's not bad. that's three feet. so -- i might need that pin sheet back, he says. jim: the quicken loan shot of the day belongs to paul casey early in his round third hole. one hot and -- one hop and home
6:22 pm
for the eagle. but he'll tell you this is his favorite shot of the day right here the family portrait. with poly anna and his little boy lex. graham delaet is going to make -- not intentionally but he's going to study this putt and give watson time to stew over that three-footer. and for delaet, this would be 265, 15 under par which would join him with harman. tied for third. it makes it --
6:23 pm
nick: ok. settle down. [crowd noise] nick: nice gesture from bubba. oh go on. good try but it still -- got to finish it off. jim: yeah, than there's a two-shot swing between delaet and harman, so harman will overtake graham's position. peter: hard to believe that, putt didn't turn to the left. jim: i agreement it gives more time for bubba to think about the gravity of that situation.
6:24 pm
we know we won't take that much time with it but he had a tournament a year ago in phoenix, when we were there and bubba had a five-footer to force a playoff. and kevin stadler he missed it. there's a birdie for graham delaet. errant tee shot was the spoiler. nick: on a sticky day i'll tell you, you think -- he's thinking positively but i bet he doesn't like this putt. it's time to say to yourself what is my intention? my intention to hole it. that's what you say. jim: more golf on the way! bangs it home.
6:25 pm
bubba watson and paul casey will head back to the 18th tee. first bubba's got to sign the card. talking about a playoff with pretty cre denshammed, heavily pedigreed players. nick: it's now down to just the two of you. rub his lucky head. michael co en's there. jim: bubba got his first-ever
6:26 pm
parg tour win here in 2010. good luck kisses for daddy. bubba won back in 2010. he'll take on casey next.
6:27 pm
jim: minutes away from the start of the playoff between bubba watson and paul casey. you like drama? you'll like the compelling story to the end. nick: of course. jim: that's what we had here today. it's ongoing. tonight on cbs it begins with "60 minutes," followed by an all-new "big brother," with julie chen. casey's already on the way, and
6:28 pm
having reached the starting point a smill -- a little snack here before we get this thing started. then the putt. in on the left side. bubba second shot at the 72nd and hi lost it. -- he lost it. as peter said, his poorest swing of the day. but from that point he managed his own up and down par.
6:29 pm
jim: 22ened playoff in tournament history. first one -- or the last one just two years back. ted duke over chris stroud. should be a good one watson and casey on the way. daughter: do you and mom still have money with that broker? dad: yeah, 20 something years now. thinking abo ut what you want to do with your money? daughter: looking at options. what do you guys pay in fees?
6:30 pm
dad: i don't know exactly. daughter: if you're not happy do they have to pay you back? dat d: it doesn't really wkat that way. daught: suyou re? voaru e you asking enough questions about the way urwe wealth is managed? wealthanenagement at charles schwab.
