>> reporter: homicide investigators have the spent the entire afternoon here at the victim's home. she has been identified by investigators as 58 year-old regina brunner and they are trying to figure out who would brutally murder that elderly woman inside of her own home. her name is regina brunner, 85 years old, according to police, men to her neighbors here in east mt. airy as sweet, kind. >> she did everything that you would want an eight five-year old to do to have a full vibrant life. she went to the gym. he did her crossword puzzles. >> reporter: her body was discovered around 11:00 a.m. inside the bedroom of her rumfort street home. >> you have an eight five-year old female who cannot defend herself. she's beaten. stab multiple times. ultimately her throat was split. >> reporter: brunner had been living with the man neighbors describe as a friend but so far he is not a suspect having been in the hospital for at least a week. investigation will then broaden, as detectives went door to door on the block talking to neighbors.

>> detectives canvassing the area we will knock on doors and to see if there is surveillance video room. note we don't know what we have. >> reporter: brunner was quite active in the community despite her age she worked two days a week asiana cysttent at chestnut hill local, a weekly community paper. >> we're shocked. this is not anything that we would have ever thought or imagined would happen. >> reporter: we spoke with several people and who knew brunner well and they all want to see her killer caught as a neighborhood remains a bit on edge, after a brutal crime. >> it is a a nice neighborhood. we always say lock your doors but you never think anything would happen. it is just shocking. >> reporter: and we are told that nothing obvious was taken from inside of the home, except for the victim's car. we're told the suspect likely fled the scene driving a 2007 silver toyota corolla belonging to the victim with pennsylvania license plate pd1402x, and police say that

the suspect did flee the scene. more than likely in this car. they are looking for that car as well as the suspect this evening. if you know anything you are asked to give them a call. we are live in east mt. airy, matt rivers for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thanks very much. it was a marvelous start to the workweek weather-wise. it doesn't get better than this in fact. meteorologist kate bilo is out on the gorgeous cbs-3 sky deck in center city philadelphia in the background. it really was a top ten day. >> top ten day for sure, chris. just beautiful. you will to have drag me back in the studio for main weather here and i'm watching the sidewalks and so many people outside taking their time, stralling, getting to where they need to go on a nice leisurely pace enjoying the heck out of this afternoon. what a beautiful day it has been. low humidity. nice breeze, sunshine. you cannot beat a day like this in the middle of the summertime. lets look outside and take a peak at temperatures to start off here. you can see i'm talking about this day. it feels great. it is 81 at the airport. seventy-eight in allentown.

seventy-eight in trenton. eighty in dover. our average high is 86 degrees. we're a full 5 degrees below average right now. we're hitting our highs now thanks to the increase in sunshine. it is a full day of sun and we have had a few clouds bubble up this afternoon. now just blue skies as far as the eye can see. dew points in the low to mid 50's. that puts us in a very comfortable range. we have been in the mid 50's all day long. that is pleasant. very close to awesome. dew point right now 53 in philadelphia and we're far from that oppressive humidity when you can get dew points in the 60's to near 07 degrees. unfortunately the humidity is creeping backup by the end of the week but no problems tonight, out and about 77, comfortable at 7:00 o'clock. just in time for phillies day. seventy-six and partly cloudy at 9:00. 11:00 p.m. 74 and partly cloudy but we are tracking some storms for tomorrow. we will see half of our region is in the marginal risk zone for severe weather. coming up i'll time those storms out and tell what you to expect the rest of the week and upcoming holiday weekend. for now back inside to you. >> kate, thanks very much. power problems continue to

hit residents in hard hit gloucester county following last tuesday's strong storms. deptford township senior center has been a popular spot for residents. more than 2,000 county wide are still in the dark right now, and power was restored to that part of the deptford this afternoon. the township's mayor told "eyewitness news" he does have concerns about restoration efforts for future weather events. >> i understand that it was a pretty severe storm. it was straight line wind of 07 miles an hour what happens when a tornado hits deptford or severe ice storm. do we lose power for three and four weeks. >> ac electric says it does hope to have all of its customers backup and running by midnight. investigators are searching for the cause of this fire, on a farm in gloucester county, chopper three over south harrison township where the flames tore through a farm structure near monroeville road and state road 45. the roof of that building did collapse crews battled the fire for about an hour before we got the upper hand. fortunately there were in

injuries. well child ace monk those hurt in a serious multi vehicle crash in winslow township. chopper three over route 37 and heyes mill red where six vehicles were involve. there was a small child in the back of the honda that was rear ended by a pick up who had to be flown to the hospital with injuries that are satisfied to be life threatening. police are investigating tonight. one of the suspects in the block party shooting that sent ten people to the hospital has just turned himself in. police arrested dominic lemar today for a shooting that happened on june 20th in the 4100 block of ogden street. police say the victims were all hit from a shot fired from a shotgun. another suspect in the crime colleen harley, remains at large. is there a $10,000 reward that leads to his capture. as federal investigators continue their probe into the port richmond amtrak disaster the first wrongful death lawsuit was filed today. family of the maryland

businessman, businessman bob gildersleeve is suing amtrak now, claiming quote negligence and outrageous conduct. gildersleeve was on his way to insuring on the night of may 12th when the train derailed, rounding a corner at more than one hundred miles an hour. the 45 year-old was among eight people killed in that crash. amtrak has not commented on this latest lawsuit. in delaware, an assistant elementary school principal is behind bars tonight accused of molesting three young girls at his home. edward s husbands was a arrested last week and faces unlawful contact and child endangerment charges. the 45 year-old is accused of inappropriate liz touching those girls during his own daughter's sleep overs. police say that husband worked at banker elementary school in milford.

30i pads and six computers were stolen from west philadelphia, and saint ignatius of loyola paraish. earlier this month. in addition to offering a reward the fop is replacing 20 of the stolen i under pads. >> hopefully by first day of school and i know summer goes quick but by first kay of school we're hoping to have every piece of equipment return, so you won't miss a wheat. >> if would you like to help replace the stolen i hand pads you should contact their offices. and they are estimated $17,000 of equipment was stolen from the elementary school. a scary sight is back, on these beaches tonight monster like creatures were washed up known as portuguese manowars. on sunday one was spot in stone harbor. saturday two dozen washed up in surf sit. on june 21st would be spotted in harvey cedars. cleve bryan spoke with a woman who photographs one of those manowars. >> reporter: watch where you swim and where you walk, this picture taken sunday by susan allen at 59th street in ocean city is one of the latest sightings of portuguese manowar. >> we walk up. i looked down and said that is portuguese manowar. >> reporter: ocean city isn't only place manowars washed up in stone harbor, avalon and long beach island. >> i'm amazed because i thought they were just in florida. >> reporter: manowar are rare at jersey shore but when gulf stream brings them north they have to be taken seriously. stink stinks can be painful and you could go in anaphlatic shock. >> i have been hit a lot of times. it is very careful. i compare to it bee by the, it is like getting stung by ten bees at once. >> reporter: brian of the ocean city beach patrol has life guarded at palm beach florida. he said manowar are hard on children because pain last for hours. >> if you do get stung seek at

on the cbs-3 healthwatch tonight, pot for pets, we know that marijuana can help people with the variety of ailment but new there are supplements for animals that contain an extract, our health reporter stephanie stahl is here with more on what is a new trend. >> reporter: before everybody gets excited though we want to say this is not about getting

welcome america festival. today is free activities at the franklin institute included a chance to learn about science behind fire works, book readings, and a exhibit about wawa's dairy farming. in the meantime residents in camden have a whole new way to cool off tonight public pools, in the city of now officially opened. mayor dana redd was there with members of the department services to kick off the summer fun at north camden community center. the public schools and spray pools there are designated safe havens where camden youth and families can escaped the summer heat. and kate, the summer heat was a little bit mild tore day then it has been but it is coming back. >> you will get to the pool tomorrow and rest of the week. we have to watch for thunderstorms in the sky, that is bit. today though was mild, comfortable out there. temperatures getting in the lower 80's and only late this afternoon we were in the 07's most of the day. more of a day to take a walk on the nature trail around the area, get outside you didn't

need to cool off but those kids were enjoying it no matter what lets look outside. i want to show you a beautiful camera up in the poconos, big boulder lake, and boy beautiful . you can see the branches waving in the breeze there. been a nice comfortable breeze all day. yesterday was windy. today, just comfortably breezy beautiful shot there at jack frost big boulder storm scan three is looking beautiful in my opinion this evening as well, as things are cleared, for us but notice things will go downhill off to our west. next system working its way in as a cold front bringing in showers to portions of ohio, around pittsburgh area, erie, just now creeping up in to new york state as well. this is a system that will impact us tomorrow with the chance for a couple of scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the mid afternoon hours for us. another peak at temperatures and we're at our highest level of the day. we have hit 81 degrees. eighty wilmington. seventy-eight in allentown. we are at 79 in millville. it has been a wet june, capped off by heavy rain, on saturday. we're more than 4-inch's above

normal. so far this month 7.38 inches of rain have fallen, we may add more to that total tomorrow. here's y cloud increase, wake up tomorrow to cloudy skies in the city, sundown the shore to start off date but watch how these storms blossom by 1:00 off to the west, some could be locally strong look at these downpours where you see orange dots. mostly through city at 4:00 and starts to lift out of here by seven or 8:00 but a few showers and storms to the north and east. that clears out. then on wednesday we will see sun, warm, steamy just a chance for few more localized isolated showers and storms on wednesday. so storms are much more numerous, for tomorrow. i want to tell but a really cool nerd facts and those are my favorite facts. thinks happening tomorrow. thinks leap second. we are adding a second one little second to the day this started in 1972 to being for slowing of the rotation of the earth. it has happened 25 times since then. it will take place at 11:59 and 59 and midnight. 11:59, 59 will happen twice and although we will not note

more news copping out of the phillies today team revealing their new president this afternoon. "eyewitness sports" anchor leslie van arsdal joins us live from the ballpark with more on the new man in charge, leslie. >> hi there chris ryne sanberg says he chose to leave because he knew about the changes coming to upper management and one of those changes as you just mentioned became official today. they have a new team president, phillies announcing this this afternoon long time baseball executive andy macphail will be the new team president at the end of the season and replacing the retiring pat gillick can. he ran the cubs and orioles. he agrees with the phillies rebuilding process. but he is preaching patients. >> we need to applaud this organization with the path it has taken recently. i think it is right path. any team that devotes themselves to a rebuild gets rewarded in the end. teams like kansas city, tampa pittsburgh baltimore if you
