he area. showers are popping up every where. he have year rain off shore but we have showers down the shore, showers in delaware and couple sprinkles starting to pop up to our west over chester, montgomery and lancaster counties. can't rule out a shower here or there pretty much anywhere tonight, in the city and points to the west. they are the scatter. we are not talking about severe weather and we're talking about showers and cloud, and conveyor belt of in moisture across the eastern half of the country right back in portions of the midwest and south, and focus of the storms. area of the low pressure tracking the boundary heading in the holiday weekend. most of this will stay to the south, but low pressure long that boundary could clip us enough tomorrow and again on the fourth of were you saturday to bring threats for a couple of showers or even a thunderstorm. as far as today is concerned you can see cloud east wind have kept us below average average high 86 degrees. right now 75 at the airport. atlantic city, 68 degrees after rain today.

"eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers is live in ocean city more, matt. >> reporter: jessica, weather today in ocean city has in the been very good. been cloudy, rainy basically what we saw for the entire month of june. you did not have to jump in the ocean to get wet thursday at the shore the skies opened up and the boardwalk was quiet. how often do you see an empty beach on july 2nd. >> we realized whether it is something that we cannot control so we dot best we can. >> reporter: for michelle and businesses that she works with the fight begins mother nature has been an uphill battle in 2015. the month of june saw more rainfall then any june, since 1920. >> it just kind of roll with it and go from there. >> reporter: brent owns the short shack a boardwalk business that lives and dies by amount of foot traffic in the beach.

list of activities and events all around the the area. a child is rush to the hospital after falling out of window in philadelphia's kensington neighborhood. authorities say it was around 10:30 when that child fell from the second story window in the home on the 100 block of west huntington street. paramedics rush the young boy to st. christopher's hospital for treatment and non-life threatening injuries. >> he was awake crying, i believe he was crying maybe for his mother, but he was favoring his knees and rubbing the back of his head like he might have head the concrete with his head. >> reporter: the special victims unit is now investigating, it is unclear if any charges will be filed. search is over for a teenage aer who disappeared while swimming in the lake in gloucester county. derrick moyer disappeared in monroe township yesterday. a vigil was hell last night now family and friend will gather again tonight at williamstown high school where boyar was going to be a senior in the fall. and that is where "eyewitness

news" reporter cleve bryan joins us live with more, cleve. >> reporter: jessica, that is right, they did meet last night to pray for possibly even a safe return for boyar now they have come to say good bye but they take console in the fact that his body was recovered. just after 1:00 this afternoon search boats and other equipment pulled away from the remote monroe township lake known as the blue hole. state police recovered body of the 17 year-old day just boyar who drowned yesterday afternoon. todd springer is a close friend. >> i'm not taking it g last night i was at the football field. i was crying there. when i went home after my brothers went to sleepy just broke down. >> reporter: boyar was a stand out wrestler and member of the williamstown high school football team. >> he was talking about his senior year, how this would be the best year of his life. he had so many friend. you don't meet some lon like that often. >> reporter: boyar and several friend were swimming at the

blue hole a a former sand quarry now part of the wild life reserve and off limit to swimmers. >> we all have children here and we have kept them away for years. >> reporter: correale starks lives and works up the path to the blue hole on jackson road. she said, police are constantly kicking people out but they keep showing up. she saw cars lined up yesterday around the time police say boyar drowned. >> kid, they find places to go they go back there and they party. this is not the first drowning back there. >> reporter: monroe township police did confirm there have been several drownings at the blue hole but they didn't have an exact number this afternoon. there will be an autopsy performed on boyar's body. they have not been able to rule out alcohol as a factor but they do not suspect foul play. the vigil 9:00 o'clock tonight. live from williamstown, cleve bryan, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". sad day for that community, cleve thanks very much. philadelphia police make an arrest in the deadly shooting in bridesberg, gunfire erupted on the 2800

block of orthodox street around 1:30 this afternoon. a 21 year-old man was found shot multiple times and he later died at the hospital. police say they caught the shooter three blocks away on edgemont street and recovered a weapon. we're waiting to learn more about an overnight shooting in camden that reportedly injured a woman victim may have been caught in the cross fire while driving. first responders reportedly noticed that she was shot after crashing in the tree on the 200 block of south 27th street. the victim was taken to the hospital in unknown condition. there were no injuries in this balcony collapse in a west philadelphia apartment building the third floor balcony came down hard just before 4:00 a.m. on the 6200 block of chestnut street. the cause of that collapse has yet to be determined. and investigators want to know if alcohol played a role in the deadly crash on route 309 in west rock hill bucks county. a car traveling south on 309 went off the road and slammed into a tree, before

11:00 o'clock last night. we know one person died at that scene, three others were rushed to the hospital. southbound rains of the 309 were closed during that investigation but that highway is all clear now. a false report of an active shooter at a navy facility in washington d.c. triggers a full scale response from law enforcement. cbs news correspondent craig boswell is on the scene with why the authorities are taking any threats seriously. >> reporter: law enforcement swarmed washington d.c.'s navy yard after what turned out to be i false report of the active shooter. >> a person made a call, heard what she thought may have been gunshots and she made a call, which is what employees here are trained to do. we have no concerns that this was a hoax whatsoever. >> reporter: just two years ago a shooter killed 12 people and injured three others in this same location. >> here we go again. >> reporter: mike heyes is a retired navy captain who now works at the navy yard as a civilian. he says basis better prepared now then it was in 2013. >> they have great processes and procedures in place for to us do exactly what we need to

cbs-3 healthwatch more americans are dying from cancer but it is because of the aging population. the actual risk is falling and that is according to a new report from federal health officials. health reporter stephanie stahl has more on a new treatment for the leading cancer killer, this is interesting stuff. >> reporter: very interesting. new numbers from the cdc show cancer deaths will increase most among black women. it also says lung cancer continues to be the biggest cancer killer. but there are exciting new treatments for lung cancer in our area. it is a little laser light doing big things in the fight against lung cancer. >> we're able to thread it out into the lung. >> reporter: doctor patrick ross chairman of surgery at main line health is pioneer in pdt where tumors are infused with light sensitive drugs and then exposed to the laser. >> the light activates drug and drug that is now in the cells directly kills the cancer cells. >> reporter: this x-ray shows

"eyewitness news" on independent mall where wawa celebrated its 23rd annual hoagie day. thinks all part of the welcome america festival. that means wawa gave away 5 tons of meaty cheesy goodness to thousands office people. the event honored america's armed forces and philadelphia's police and fire department. mayor michael nutter helped open a new exhibit as part of the welcome america celebration, this photo exhibit called about philadelphia, a sit of first was unveiled in terminal a of philadelphia international airport this morning. these photos celebrate american first is here in the city like the philadelphia zoo and bartram's garden the nation's first botanical garden. as holiday weekend approaches the coast, we are worried about the growing threat of sharks. north carolina alone has seen seven attacks in just three

through cape may county. it is cloudy, drizzly but we have got better weather on the waste for much of the holiday weekend. i will have that full forecast in just a few minutes. >> looking forward to that, kate thanks. young boy is recovering tonight after being bitten by a shark in shallow waters off the south carolina coast. kyson weekly is getting better. he got multiple stitches on his inner left thigh after being bitten by a shark in knee deep water near the palms. >> it is not like a ping in my leg. i saw the shark's fin swimming away. >> reporter: his mom decided to stay an extra 15 minutes with the kids at the beach that is a decision she says she now regrets. a 68 year-old man has become a third victim of the shark bite on the north carolina coast in less than a week. he was swimming in waist deep water along the beach when he was bitten. and cbs news correspondent dawn dollar has more. >> reporter: a man in his late 60's was air lifted to an area

hospital after being attack swimming 30 feet off the coast in north carolina andrew costello, a former editor and chief of the boston hurled was bit men his torso, hip, lower leg and both hand by what officials say is a six to 7-foot gray shark. it is seventh shark attack along north carolina coast in the last three weeks. on saturday, in rodan an 18 year-old was air lifted after being bit men his calf, torso and hand n avon, north carolina on friday a 47 year-old man was hospitalized after he was attacked by a shark while swimming with his two children. >> it is a little scary, i don't remember seeing so many shark attacks. >> reporter: shark attacks are rare, they typically see fewer then one incident per year. so the seven over the last few weeks has experts worried. sam gruber is founder and director of the biological field station in the bohamas. >> when i first heard of several shark attacks i was fairly surprised because i know that the carolinas are

not a particularly hot spot for shark attacks. something strange is going on because the trendies normally zero or one attack in that area in anyone year. >> some are calling for the beaches to close down for the fourth of july weekend but as of this afternoon they're still opened. a train is still burning in tennessee after a tanker carrying chemicals jumped the tracks and burst into flames. csx train was in route to georgia from ohio when it derailed late last night in the the county. officials say engulfed tanker contained a flammable substance used in making plastics. at least 5,000 rust dents were forced to evacuate because of the toxic fumes. >> we were asleep and police just came, knocked on the door and said they would like us to evacuate as quickly as possible because there was a fire, and we need to get a mile away. from what i hear our home was only four blocks away.

>> reporter: officials say the evacuation order could last for the next two days, federal railroad administration is now investigating that derailment. at least 35 people are dead and 20 are unaccounted for after a boat capsizes in the central philippines. that boat was carrying 189 people including 16 crew members, and it capsized just minutes after leaving port. three americans are among the survivors, and many of been rescued but philippines coastguard continues to search for others. and a new fleet of wheelchair accessible taxi cabs is heading to philadelphia. parking authority put first of the new cabs in services today and they also showed us how they will work. the small minivans have a fold out rear ramp for wheelchair users and officials expect to put 61 of those cabs into service by the fall, all 150 will be on the road by 2021. >> change things, and you cannot get a ride, you cannot change anything at all. so it is huge.

400 years. and a big hot air balloon went down hard this afternoon during american freedom festival in utah. another blimp clipped the pink pig and ripped a hole in the fabric. and, the pilot was only one on board, he suffered minor injuries when melted plastic dripped on his face as he glided the balloon down to safety. ouch. it will be united states verse japan in the finals of the women's world cup on sunday and of course, we will root for u.s. women. last night's game has us feeling bad for english. it was a heart breaking end for england. laura bass set tries to clear the ball but kicks it in her own goal. that meant japan got two-one win. bass set just devastated, you can see her teammates and coach trying to console her after that mistake. that is a a hard one. i mean, so very close. >> yes. >> it just happens sometime.
