news" for friday july 3rd 2015. good morning. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. today is a holiday getaway day for many americans, but with last week's government warning of an increased terrorist threat this fourth of july holiday, america is on guard and on edge. counterterrorism teams are keeping close tapsbs on several individual suspects. there will be extra security at transportation hubs and in major cities. >> july 4th, what better way to strike on a symbol of america. >> yesterday's call on the navy yard is an example. it turned out to be a false alarm but they're not taking any chances. >> we take every convenient seriously. >> we can't take the idea or the position that it's not going to

happen here. >> last week the fbi and the department of homeland security issued a bulletin warning on an increased threat from isis over the holiday weekend. one dhs official said there is no specific credible intelligence about an attack but noted isis has called for attacks against members of the military, law enforcement, the u.s. government, and the american public. >> you have the secretary of homeland security comed on and say this is the most serious threat since 9/11. those comments have to be taken seriously. >> there will be extra security at the holiday concert in boston. and in new york city an extra 7,000 policemen will be on patrol. >> we see ourselves as the target. we understand that. we accept that. >> officials say they are on the lookout for lone wolf-type terrorists recruited by isis but they also see a dangerous shift. >> this is an organization which may have mastered one thing, which is the ability to recruit

people using social outreach. more of a dozen isis sympathizers have been taken into custody over the past weeks including servable here in new york. isis has also called for attacks during the holy month of ramadan which continues through july. and a frightening terrorist scare at a north carolina mall ended peacefully when a man with a rifle was arrested. brian wolfe inger surrendered yesterday. he had backpack with a bullet proof vest and several rounds of ammunition. he was found inside a macy's store. >> it was scary. >> people run, women grabbing their children. >> and police came up telling us to evacuate the mall.

none fof us knew what was happening. >> he said he was planning on taking pictures with his military equipment. he was charged with taking ammunition into a public area. heavy rain and strong winds are possible today. flash flood warnings and watches are posted from missouri to virginia. this is what the storm system did in oklahoma. the high water hit so fast the driver was stranded. another motorist pulled him out. no one was injured. they'll moderate somewhat. but not cool down any time. some people who had to evacuate following a train derailment is waiting to return to their homes. one car carrying hazardous

material caught fire. police began knocking on doors in a nearby town of maryville in the middle of the night. >> he had a cover on like the people in the echlt.t. movie. he had a big thing on his face with oxygen connected to it. it was pretty scary. it freaked us out. >> 25 people were hospitalized. the fire is out but officials are waiting for the train to cool down before listing the evacuation orders. bp agreed to the largest environmental settlement in u.s. history. dom pen sate for the damage to the deepwater horizon oil spill. the $18.p billion penalty is the largest ever civil settlement with a civilian dpaep. the deal includes a $5.5 billion clean water act penalty and $8.1 billion in payments in state and local governments but the mayor of one alabama shore community wants to know where the money is

going. >> i'm hoping someone will pick the phone up and call us and talk with us and tell us what their plans are with how that money will be distributed. how it will be banked and saved and invested. >> the oil rig disaster five years ago killed 11 workers and sent millions of gallons of oil into the gulf. the payments are scheduled to be paid over 18 years and much of it is tax deductible. a woman in washington state is the first woman to die of the measles in the u.s. in 12 years. she didn't have some of the common symptoms so the infection was not discovered until the autopsy was performed. health officials say it had nothing to do with the disney outbreak. former virginia senator jim webb threw his hat into the ring. he made the decision after many months of thought. webb is the fourth democrat to

challenge front-runner hillary clinton. wisconsin's republican governor scott walker teased his entry into the race on social media. he filed paperwork to apply as a candidate. he is planning on announcing july 14th. he'll be the 15th gop candidate. walker greeted president obama yesterday when mr. obama arrived in washington. the president speaking at the university of wisconsin in lacrosse took aim at republicans trying to do away with his health care plan and he poked fun at the field of gop candidates running for his job. >>'ve lost count of the republicans running for this job. they'll have enough for an actual hunger games. >> there are currently 14 republican candidates for president. mr. obama called them an interesting bunch. well this morning hispanic

leaders are calling on the gop candidates to condemn donald trump's statements about immigrants crossing into the u.s. over the border. he said immigrants bring crime and drugs to the united states. trump has seen some of his business dealings take a hit after making those comments but after nbc dropped the usa pageant, it found a new home. real tv will air the event july 12th. tourists capture a great white lyly chomping on their diving cage. and what brings a suspect to tears during a court hearing? this is the "cbs morning news." can't find a single thing to wear. will they be looking at my hair? won't be the same without you bro...

attached a diving cage. tourists signed up for the diving cage encounter, but it was way more intensive than expected. the shark tried to bielt through a diving buoy and tried to force its nose through the cage. you called hear the people screaming. a look at the sharp teeth but no one was injured. and a surge of shark attacks off the coast of north carolina is at a record level. there have been seven within the last three weeks. brian webb looks at what's behind the rise. >> reporter: the national parks service is warning beachgoers to stay close to shore and swim in small groups after a rash of recent shark attacks. >> i think it's scary. i wouldn't go out there. >> it looks like her entire hand is gone. >> reporter: at least 11 people have been bitten along the seashore since may along the north carolina coast where shark attacks are usually rare. but experts say the sharks are

not hunting humans. >> they're hunting for fish a foot long or less but in swimming around they'll run into a hand or a foot. according to longtime shark expert dr. samuel gruber it's just math. >> people swim in warm waters so you have more people in the water with more sharks you're likely to get more shark attacks. >> while they're frightening, none have been fatal. simple advice to help prevent another scary scene like this. brian webb for the cbs news. the sister of the church shooting started a go fund me account. her wedding was originally planned for after the shooting.

prince is pulling a taylor swift by asking for his music to be removed from spotify and some other music streaming services. spotify has removed his songs but says it hopes to bring them back as soon as possible. and sean "diddy" combs will not face felony criminal charges. the rap music mogul had a confrontation last month at an athletic facility at ucla. his son plays football at the school. combs could face less serious misdemeanor charges. and for the first time in four years, rafael nadal is leaving wimbledon early. he goes down to 100th ranked dustin brown. brown beats the two-time wimbledon champ in four sets. in baseball washington pitcher max scherzer pitches another jam, but he does not get the results he hopes for.

morning's forecast in some cities around the country. one of the stars of "sesame street" is moving out. sonya sonia manzano who plays maria is leaving the show. she said that "sesame street" wanted to improve diversity on television. >> they called me to be one of the people to be a role model for the little latino kids watching the show. so in essence i became what i needed to see by being on

"sesame street." >> manzano said she may return in a few years for the 50th anniversary of "sesame street." it was a very good day for the 9/11 firefighter who spent time on ground zero after the attacks. >> congratulations carmelo mercado on your $5 million win. >> reporter: a big check presented to retired city firefighter carmelo mercado. >> the 63-year-old grandfather won it on a scratch-off ticket he bought in sunny side queens. >> i said, holy mackerel. that looks like $5 million. i went in shock. >> reporter: you were in shock, but what were you thinking in your heart? >> freedom, financial freedom. >> reporter: he was a first responder on september 11th but said he had to retire three years later.
