5:01 am
helped to brit clouds in, keep us stuck temperature wise, also bring in wet weather. that's now been suppressed offer to the south. you are going to ends one more sunshine than anything, and the uv index goes on a roller coaster ride. indication obviously we lend up with some more cloud cover than anything, nine today eight saturday, nine sunday. holiday itself isn't the brightest day we've ever seen. but the weekend as a whole is also not horrible. 67 degrees, our temperature at the moment right now, at philadelphia international airport. should be pretty nice beach day overall. at the moment, here in philly, where i'm standing, not seeing much in the way of any fog but that's something else i want you to watch out for. it is possible that you see little bit of patchy fog on your travels here this morning. so keep that in mind specially near the river beds, through more remote suburbs. but we eventually end up into the mid 80s later today, just shy of seasonable, quick look at the area headlines call it pleasant day and as we said, half and half holiday weekends, do start to heat things back up to upper 80s

5:04 am
escalated into a shoot-out. four people were shot, two people are confirmed dead this morning. this is what police say happened. the scene is at runner and clarissa street in the nicetown section of philadelphia. just before 2:30 this morning a man police say, a would-be robber approached a group of three people here. police say that man was wearing a ski mask, was armed with a handgun. but, before he could rob anyone police say someone in the group pulled out their own gun, and assault rifle. there was shoot-out all four people here were hit by gunfire. police say the initial robbery suspect was pronounced dead on the scene. another man in that group was taken to the hospital, and later died, a third man and a woman, who were also here, and also injured were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds, but police say, they are both in stable condition this morning. >> it is just another senseless act of violence. this is why the department works so hard to troy to reduce the level of violence in the city. it appears this is just a robbery gone bad.
5:05 am
>> now the crime scene unit remains here this morning so, are detectives, they're going through this neighborhood, looking for evidence. you can see all of those yellow evidence markers on the grounds this morning again, this is residential neighborhood, homes all around, must have been a frightening morning for these people. we have also spotted investigators looking at a house nearby, just around the corner, that could possibly have been hit by flying bullets. so we will stay on top of this story you. but again four people shot here this morning in nicetown, two of those people two, men dead. we will continue to follow this story. for now we're live in nicetown, jan carabeo cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> jan thank you. 5:05 right now. of course we're all gearing up for the fourth every july holiday. a lot of folks already in holiday mode. >> from the city to the shore we have you covered. lots of festive tis going on, nicole brewer down the shore in ocean city, just voted best beach in new jersey. but first, "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch is on independence mall where authorities are stepping up security, for all the big holiday events. justin good morning.

5:10 am
really what i was trying it say you. >> mention there are protected beaches, guarded beaches hopefully someone spots you and come to your rescue, also jettiness place to protect folks from that? >> well the jetties obviously create this what's called affixed rip current. so along every jet i we try to keep people as far away from them as possible. >> casino of a signal to stay away from that jet i. all right tom thanks for keeping us safe and thanks for waking up at 5:00 in the morning and joining us on cbs. i know it is not easy but we're he can cited fourth of july so much fun in ocean city. we send it back to you in the studio. >> so much fun indeed. if you don't have plans to bright the fourth, just go to our website cbs philly. com. we have list of activities and events throughout the region. just click on top spots. you can also get the very latest on the forecast. as we continue this morning, detectives work new leads in the murder after elderly woman. we'll have the latest developments in that case. >> also, with gas prices going

5:15 am
we have clouds lying low to the ground, we have clear sky overhead. so eventually, any of these low clouds, patchy fog that you might find out there, that is going to have chance to thin out get out of here. so 57 degrees to start it off. virtually no wind out of kutztown area middle school. that's part of the reason we see this fog developing in the first place. you need, a moisture content in the atmosphere, that we have. but b the winds got to be light enough. if that wind is picking up, you are not going see fog form because it can't settle anywhere. that's the reasoning there. meantime though, here is your front, the one that continues to signing off to the south. meantime we will see new system develop off to the west, tan does look like it will have a shot to mess with us tomorrow. which we'll talk b but for now, we were talking just before the break here with nicole, down the shore here, the rip countries being issues here today. delaware beaches are fine. do still sit in moderate risk for rip current up and down the jersey shore specifically. so even more important on day like today since it is going to be nice beach day that you swim near the lifeguards and be smart about that.
5:16 am
watch for little bit of fog to develop at the shore point. really anywhere today. but then eventually the sun will break through uv index climbs to eight. and we will see some pretty light winds coming in off the open ocean water. moving forwards in the forecast, tomorrow looking for a shower, perhaps thunderstorm. it may also produce a brief but heavy downpour for some of you. not a wash out. but, because we see more ties seeping into the delaware vale, that's where that will come from, then we brighten up for plenty every sunday shine sunday, beautiful day monday not bad either. by tuesday we may see our next shot for a shower or thunderstorm as steamy 88 degrees high is in the forecaster. >> i start headed down the shore, i would say you are good to go. and you probably could get that too because it is 5:16 in this morning. but, going outside, if you are traveling on the schuylkill expressway, right around the roosevelt boulevard, you can take a look here, that it is beautiful out there. there are no delays in either direction. there is only a sprinkle of vehicles on the roadway. if you are traveling in either
