people don't want to get rained on in their backyard barbecues. i wish i had better news. i wish i could tell you it would be a uni beautiful blue you sky kind of day it is not. it is not last saturday. most of the heavy rain is missing us to the north and west but we are dealing with some showers. lets look at is what happening outside. we will take you down the shore amount lot of foulke down the shore waking up seeing how their day will go. is it a beach day boardwalk day, shopping day in cape may. first part of the day beach weather may not be so nice. storm scan three shows why that is, look at that big massive heavy rain off to the north and west, williamsport getting a a soaking. light showers at the very least. waking up to some drizzle and gloom and here in the city same story. as we zoom out south of that big massive rain near williamsport we have scattered showers. those will move through during the course of the day. it looks like the heavier of the steady rain will miss us and we will be donging showers throughout the majority of the

good morning syma. >> reporter: good morning, nicole. so much going on. it is america's birthday. the country turns 239 years young, and what better place to celebrate then right behind me at independent hall where it all began. now, the city definitely necessary how to party. yesterday fess gifts got kick off. visitors explored all of the sight, sound and taste that make philly great. thousands of people from all over the world no the just the country but all over the world came here to enjoy the music from philly pops and a free concert and festivities keep going to day. that is because this is what should be on agenda celebration of freedom ceremony takes place at ten at the steps of the independent had mall with the parade following shortly after. then, of course, everyone's favorite, the party on the parkway that kicks off at noon. welcome america concert will be held this evening at eakins oval and 700,000 people are

middle of the ocean in florida when that shark caught his bait and knock him in the water. the man was able to quickly swim to safety to a nearby boat but as you can see here he was not afraid to get right back out on to the ocean. that would be yeah, that would be scary. not since jaws released 40 years ago has so many people been afraid to go in the water for a shark attack this year there have been a reported 23 shark attacks in the u.s. including seven in north carolina over the past three weeks. this most shark attacks recorded in 80 years since the university of florida began keeping track. national park service a has this advice for concerned swimmers stay close to the shore and swim in small groups. >> with two young ones in the water i have been keeping an extra eye on the surf. >> i think you should be cautious but not too scared about it. >> scientists don't know why there has been a increase in shark attacks. theory include sea turtle

migration, lunar cycle and warmer water. more than 3 tons of the supplies are on the way to the international space station. russian rocket launched an unmanned cargo ship this successful launch follows last sunday's explosion of the space x rocket. the supplies should reach iss by sunday morning. well, solar flame power only by sunlight made history after flying from japan to hawaii in a five day journal a cross pacific ocean. solar impulse set a new record for longest none in stop solar flight without refueling marking first for aviation and renewable energy. cbs reporter chris martinez has details from los angeles. >> reporter: after a five day flight across the pacific the solar impulse landed safely at a small airport outside honolulu hawaii on friday. its 120 hour journey from japan broke the record for world's longest non-stop flight. >> incredible journey incredible moment of a personal level.

beautiful sunny start to the morning and sunshine but we don't have that. we we also don't have is heavy rain severe weather which is good news with a lot of people out. it can always be worse. lets look at what the day is looking at as we start off on the the fourth of july, independent day. not a bad start. just some cloud. we have light rain falling in the city at the moment and down the shore but good news is heavier rain so far is missing us to the north and west. now with that being said, it is not a gorgeous, beautiful start to the morning. we are not waking up to sun streaming in the windows. we do have that tomorrow. it is not a complete loss. two out of the three days are perfect and today i think we will get lucky by later on this afternoon and this evening some drying is expect in the forecast. so in the looking bad here at ben franklin bridge. we will take you to a live neighborhood network sites. this is at the beach patrol headquarters at margate. it is starting to brighten up, down the shore waves are rowing in. little bit of the mess here with this trash can. someone will be along to clean

up that before people head to the beach but what a beautiful shot, of the nice morning so maybe take a stroll along the san. you might want jacket with the hood in case it rains with you. just a nice morning to be outside. down the shore no matter what the weather is. lets look at storm scan three. let's show you the general landscape of what we're looking at here. heavier rain is this massive rain pushing through williamsport area right along interstate 80. that is moving away. heaviest will miss us. scattered showers that extend through berks county, a couple of light showers in the city and up and down the shore points just scattered showers. this is light rain, not a huge deal but as we zoom out we have a lot of moisture lingering, south of this heavier rain and all these showers have to push through before we can clear things out. i want to show you this area of rain to the south. heading down to ocean city, maryland, mostly moving off shore but could clip delaware beaches through the rest of this morning. with the rain coming down temperatures are on the cooler side. we are at 66 degrees in trenton. zero seven in allentown. zero seven in philadelphia we

have a pair of 60's in reading right now. comfortable start to the morning. half and half weekend. today, it is fourth of july, fire works are going it is a great day. great day to spend with friend and family but we have to dodge these showers on and off and highs will be in the 70's for most of us thanks to the clouds and showers. tomorrow looks fantastic, we will bump that up to an eight it will be in the 80's for your sunday with a good deal of sunshine. timing it out heaviest rain moving by right about now. some of those steady showers could get in the city and northwestern suburbs. this is at 2:00 p.m. and scattered showers to the south. watch at what happens at 7:00. moisture dies southward. we have cloud around but it should try to dry out, nine or 10:00 for your fire works viewing activities, we will start to clear out the skies and then by sunday, look at this at 1:00p in m nothing but sunshine. any rain misses us to the south and north. monday looks like the showers will stay to the south as well. so dodging showers on and off throughout the day-to-day.

works. >> pretty much food and fire works. >> reporter: survey by national retail federation find the average american will spend $71.23 on items for a barbecue, cook out or picnic. $3 more than last year. however, an annual tally by the american farm bureau federation found average cost of the cook out for ten people with burgers hot dogs, ribs, bake beans and more is actually down third percent to $5 and, 58 sent per person. beef prices higher. john anderson says lower energy prices, helped the overall decrease. >> it is in the just transportation, that is a big component but it is things like processing and packaging. they seem to be fairly energy intensive activities. higher energy prices raise those prices. >> reporter: lower fuel prices lower them. that is a big reason 42 million americans will spend the holiday away from home according to triple a

is a big concern this holiday weekend. police all around the country will be working overtime to keep the crowds safe. as cbs news correspondent kenneth craig reports the increase comes amid a new warning from the department of home land security and the fbi. >> reporter: in big cities in small towns law enforcement agencies across the u.s. will be on heightened alert this fourth of july weekend. the beefed up security follows a warning from the fbi and department of whom land security about an increased threat of ice is inspired violence. >> cooperate with our public safety officers. if you see something say something. >> reporter: in boston state police will machine for the charles river during the boston pops fire works show. people will see special patrols around the national landmarks in washington and on the national mall, all of the 700,000 people who attend saturday's fire works must pass through a checkpoint and could be subject to a search. here in new york city an estimated 3 million people

family. or ceremonies were held accredits britain. >> let us remember the loved ones that they have left behind. >> the gun man was killed by authorities. governmental officials say they have arrested seven men and one woman suspect of having direct ties to that massacre. police arrest this man victor bennet. bennet is accused of shooting a police officer in the arm wednesday night this happened at park boulevard and kenwood avenue. police say bennet fired at the officer as he drove by in an unmark vehicle. we are told officers chased bennet for three blocks through yard and over fences. he was found in a shed with the ledded semiautomatic handgun. bennet is behind bars with bail set at one million-dollar. still no arrest in the quadruple shooting in nicetown that left two people dead. we first told but this yesterday morning on "eyewitness news". police say a suspect wearing a ski mask tried to rob three people along the 1900 block of juniata street. one person in that group was arm and a shoot-out erupted

from there. all four people were shot, suspect was found dead a block away. two men and woman were rushed to the hospital where one of the men later died. >> it is just another senseless act of violence. this is why the department has work so hard to try to reduce the level of violence in the city and it is just a a robbery that has gone bad. >> a home and several cars were hit by stray bullets during that gun battle but no other injuries were reported. prosecutors have charged robert with murder in the shooting death of daniel santiago in brideberg thursday afternoon. police say he shot santiago several times in the 2800 block of or the tax street. he later died at the hospital. there his no word on a met i have for that shooting. a memorial service will take place in trevose this sunday for regina brunner holmes, that is the grandmother found murdered in her east mt. airy home. meantime police are still searching for the eight five-year old killer. holmes was found dead in her rumfort home on monday.

investigators found her car abandoned in north philadelphia the next day. it is 5:37 right now. there is a dangerous new trenton social media pretty disturbing. it is called sunburn art. it is tea signed created by exposing certain parts of the skin to the sun without protection. hash tag sunburn art caught on to those on instagram doctors warned that while it might look interesting intentionally exposing your skin to uv rays without protection can be harmful and could lead to skin cancer and aging. doctors say regularly applying a broad spectrum sun screen with at least a spf of 30 or high tore all exposed a areas of skinnies the best way to cope with the sun. but, that is just ridiculous. i mean, come on, sunburn art really. it is 5:38. many americans will be firing up the charcoal grills this will holiday weekend right? but it turns out charcoal isn't just for the barbecue. as cbs news correspondent jill wagner explains it is turning up in beauty products and some people are even drinking it.
