"eyewitness news" this morning, begins with breaking news crime scene tape and casing at four homicide scenes marking a violent night for the city of philadelphia "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch is live with the very latest on those investigations justin? >> reporter: nicole, good morning. reports came in last night and went into the offer night. by this morning police are looking into four homicides three shootings and one was a stabbing. lets get you now to video of the fatal stabbing scene. this involves a 17 year-old girl on broad and hunting park avenue. she was found there stabbed near walgreens parking lot there as she passed away from her injuries. now also at that hour about 3:30 a.m. in the olney section there ways a double shooting there on the 5100 block of north front street. a man was found shot and

killed and nearby on front and duncannon, a man found shot in his leg and foot. he was taken to einstein in stable condition. police believe in that case about 30 round or more were fired. now, two and a half hours earlier in kensington a man was found shot six times he wases in his 40's. he also passed away and about a quarter until 9:00 last night in southwest philadelphia a man was found shot and killed. police very busy late last night in the overnight this morning. we are looking into all four cases here. back out live police tell us in weapons have been found so far and also no word of any arrests at this point. of course, if you have any tips police are welcoming them this morning. we are live at police headquarters i'm justin finch for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> justin, thank you. a fire in the dunes in atlantic city caught on camera. check this out. this is video from instagram from that brush fire that happened late last night near boardwalk at doctor martin luther king boulevard. there is no word on how much

of this brush burned. the atlantic city is i fire department is investigating and so far the causes unknown. there are in reports of any injuries. that is some good news there. we also have some good news as it relates to weather news, second half of our holiday weekend is turning out better than the first. lets go outside and take you outside for a live look at skies cam three here in philadelphia you cane just a gorgeous shot of the sky line looking pretty nice. a lot of those cloud have burned off at this point. i think that will continue as we move throughout the morning. yesterday's rain, long gone, as you can tell, as we take a look the an hour storm scan three here. we're not tracking any rain today. we're not tracking any storms that we're happy to report just lots of sunshine again making for a nice half of your holiday weekend. lets go ahead and look at your current temperatures, not too bad as well here, it is heating up. 69 degrees in philadelphia, to the south and to our shore points. sixty-six in wildwood. up to the north mount pocono, always chillier at 60 degrees but all and all, happying up to be a very nice day. we will i have complete look

at your forecast, coming up next. also just an incredible close to a celebration honoring our nation's independent. it was a party out there. this is a look at fire works over the art museum last night capping off welcome america concert on the parkway. and overnight crews were working to clean up after the festival as you can imagine, a tough job after thousands hundreds of thousandses, in fact showed up in the city where america's independence was born. "eyewitness news". always have a good time, steve. july 4th a day full of stars and stripes right here in philadelphia. lets look at a recap of what happened. starting the day off was celebration of freedom ceremony at the birthplace of the declaration of the independent, very a appropriate. crowds gathered at independent hall for patriotic music reading of the declaration. ceremony commemorated other important milestones as well including 50th anniversary of the first major lgbt protest in the u.s. philadelphia mayor michael nutter addressed the crowd. >> this independent day a great, great honor to welcome all of you my fellow philadelphians ape visitors alike to the birthplace of democracy. our nation's first capitol. >> reporter: and independence day parade followed after that ceremony which went all throughout historic philadelphia, and more celebrations at the independence visitors center. we have a lot going on here. visitors got to take part in the special birthday party for america, party goers enjoyed

some delicious patriotic treats including a cake along with hundreds of cup cakes displayed in the shape of the american flag. betsy ross, thrilled the crowd n'synxing happy birthday to america. of course, police remain on high alert across the country as people celebrate our nation's independence. cbs's kenneth craig tells us extra security measures are taken to keep america safe this fourth of july weekend. >> reporter: fire works lit up the night sky over east river in new york city, an estimated 3 million spectators didn't let a terror threat warning rain on their fourth of july celebrations. >> there were a a lot of people here... unaudible. >> reporter: concerned about a potential lone wolf style attack the ny pd deployed an extra 7,000 heavily armed police officers to watch over the crowd. >> it is not so much what we know that concerns us about what we might not know. >> reporter: police hearsay there have in the been any specific threats but they are

ready. >> unaudible. >> reporter: law enforcement also beefed up security at other high value target like the the national mall in washington d.c. 18,000 feet of chain linked fence surrounded the landmark, thousands of people passed through screening checkpoints before they could find a spot to watch the fire works. kenneth craig for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". and while there have not been any attacks on u.s. soil a video has been posted on line purporting to show isis members killing 25 syrian government soldiers at an arc logical site. video shows islamic state militant taking soldiers to an theater in the historic town of palmyra. young isis member then shoot and kill them while hundreds are seen watching. video doesn't indicate when shootings took place but british human rights organization said they took place at the end of may. a memorial services will

take place in trevose today for regina brunner holmes, the grandmother found murdered in her east mt. airy home. philadelphia police after rested leroy wilson of norristown in connection with the slaying. holmes was found dead inside her rumfort road home on monday. police say wilson was working as a handy man for holmes as the time of the her murder. >> he came to her door last night. she knew him from previous times that he did work for her. she let him in. we believe he was probably stealing something from her maybe she caught him in the act of doing that, and with that, he was set off beat her, and then stabbed her and ultimately killed her. >> detectives believe that wilson acted alone. they say he has a long criminal history of violent crime. and two camden county police officers are on leave after a deadly officer involved shooting this all happened late friday night in the crammer hill neighborhood of the east camden. officers responded to reports of a man with the gun a at corn are of bergen and harrison avenue. when they arrived officers say the man pointed a loaded

weapon at them so they open fire. an independent investigation will be conducted as part of their standard procedure. camden county police say this is the first officer involved shooting in the department's 26 month history. a man suspect of shooting a camden county police officer is in custody this morning. police arrested victor been net collins wide on friday after a brief foot chase. investigators say bennet shot a police officer in the arm in camden on wednesday night. that officer is expect to recover. this is just scary at least 14 people are injured after a deck collapses at a north carolina beach house. can you imagine? a family was trying to take a group photo last night in emerald aisle, when that deck just gave out. at least two victims are in critical condition, one person had to be air lifted to the hospital and so, the serious injuries here. no word on what caused that collapse. a small plane crashed into a crowded southern california beach, injuring a 12 year-old boy. the single engine piper pa 18

well, happening today team u.s.a. takes on japan in the women's world cup final. it is a rematch from the 2011 world cup. japan won in dramatic fashion too but this year could be revenge for u.s. women. they beat germany two to nothing in the semi finals with delran native carli lloyd scoring that game winning goal from the penalty spot. pretty cool there. the team says they are ready for this years rematch.

it looks nice. day is shaping up pretty well. here's meteorologist justin drabick with eyewitness weather. >> good morning, everyone. hopefully you are having a great sunday enjoying your holiday weekend. we are finally bringing back that sunshine. we have a lot of sunshine for your sunday. we will heat temperatures backup as it feels like summer once again. later coming up we will see more chances for some more storms arriving to our forecast. but we have rainfall over the delaware valley, that is great news check out the drought and machine for. no signs of any ab normally dry conditions or maryland rate drought situation. weeing lear bet's cross the delaware valley. the exception is in southern new england where we will fine dry conditions. but, all is good here for philadelphia lets talk about what is happening over the next several days. high pressure build back in control for today. it will bring back mostly sunny skies high temperatures surge in the upper 80's, a couple degrees above average for this time of the year. monies the same deal. we will keep it nice and dry.

good morning. >> reporter: violent indeed, nicole, good morning yes. four whom side victims at this time police counted three men and one teenage girl. let's get to the video of the most recent case off broad street and hunting park avenue. a 17 year-old girl was found severely stabbed overnight near walgreens parking lot. that was 3:30 this morning. she did later pass away of her injuries. now about that time there were reports of two men shot, in olney, one man was found shot and killed, on 59100 block of north front street, nearby a second man was found shot on front street and duncannon and he was taken from masher to einstein medical center in stable condition. we are told police believe in that case there may have been more than 30 rounds shot. now in kensington about 1:00 o'clock this morning a man in his 40's was found shot six times he also, died of his injuries. and about a quarter until 9:00 last night on july 4th,

agreement. the largest ferris wheel on the east coast reopened after riders got a pretty big scare on friday. sixty-six people were stranded on the orlando eye when it suddenly stopped. they all had to be evacuated a process that took more than three hours that just sound horrifying. in one was injured in, that malfunction, the wheel towers 400 feet in the sky yikes. this is a fun night fire works, turned terrifying, when several, shells from this fire, and in the crowd. can you imagine. the malfunction was caught on cell phone video. nine people suffered minor injuries and this happened friday night in the town of avon colorado, in front of about 20,000 people, but the crowd was pretty huge. the accident is under investigation. it is 7:38 right now. still to come on "eyewitness news", many people are enjoying holiday weekend down the shore but for travelers to the carolina beaches is there extra concern after a recent string of shark attacks. plus we all know being out in the sunnies all about

correspondent jennifer gray reports a series of attacks is making some lear bye swimming in the ocean. >> reporter: new video out of florida shows a kyacker fishing for grouper and getting a bigger bite then he bargained for, a bull shark. then frantically swimming for safety as he says others circles nearby. chosen counter has holiday beach goers on alert this weekend especially on the east coast. >> about a 5-foot, sand shark and it was within 8 feet of me. >> they are around us more, closer, moving around. >> reporter: at least ten attacks in the carolinas since june, seven in north carolina alone. that is one more than a yearly average for both states, in just the past month. >> a lot of people utilizing the beach and this time of the year we have migration of the coastal species. >> reporter: experts say along with shark migration a buffet of nesting sea turtles with warm salty water could attract

biggest danger this weekend. >> i would be more concerned about driving down to the beach and getting in the car wreck on the way down here then i would be with having an incident with the shark. >> 7:44. that was jennifer gray reporting by the way. this is not the kind of off shore fish are map in the out are banks are used to though. some or partially eaten by sharks. fisherman say part of the problem is strict shark fishing laws that went in effect years ago and now sharks are now over populated meaning sharks are now just competition for fisherman. kind of interesting there. delaware environmental officials are preparing for a spike in the mosquito population. just what you want to hear, right. recent heavy rains are beneficial to egg breeding. higher than normal mosquito counts are reported in milford, laurel and dover, delaware. the mosquito population is closely tracked because mosquitoes can transmit west nile virus. in the healthwatch this morning, there has been a new link between between citrus

fruit and skin cancer. health reporter stephanie stahl has more on that new research. >> reporter: loaded with vitamin c and other nutrient citrus fruit is popular and healthy but new study that followed 25,000 people found a link between consuming citrus and medical nome at deadliest form of skin cancer. people that drank orange juice once a day were 25 percent more likely to develop melanoma then those with less than weekly. those ate whole grapefruit three times a week had a 41 percent higher risk verse those who never ate it. citrus fruits contain certain chemicals men to make skin, more sensitive to the sun. they also add that this doesn't mean that citrus causes cancer. it is when combined with excessive sun exposure without protection. and, the risk was only found with orange juice and whole grapefruit not whole citrus. scientists say they could contain compounds that increase cancer risk.
