investigated. back to normal after a tech melt town at united airlines, new york stock exchange and wall street journal. >> there are still questions on how it happened to three major businesses all in the same day. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabao is live at philadelphia international airport with the aftermath of those glitches, jan. >> reporter: nicole and erika good morning. so far here at philadelphia international airport there is only one united airlines flight this has been canceled. so as for as we are going in philly, we are okay what a difference a day makes when a computer system went down yesterday morning this check in area was pennsylvania packed with people with nothing to do but wait. their flights were delayed until that system could get backup. so nationwide the scene was even worse. from los angeles where long lines stretched well past the airport terminal to idaho over to chicago's o'hare, and here at philadelphia international, crowds of united airlines passengers

waited and wondered why they couldn't get on to their flights. >> internet was down so in one could check in. >> reporter: more than 1100 flights all across the country were delayed wednesday by what united called a router problem that income several computer systems off line. passengers could not check in and employees reported flight plans that could not be sent to cockpits and crews scheduling software also stopped working. >> something like this can't happen for an airline the size of united. impact from today's event will be in the millions of dollars if in the tens of millions of dollars. >> reporter: the new york stock exchange shut down for hours, and they blame a software upgrade for the problem. wall street journal's web site was also income off line. >> we are running in a technically advanced world that has problems sometimes. >> reporter: now investigators say three outages were not related and in the caused by an attack. cyber security expert at drexel university doctor robert devideo won't call it

[ laughter ] we are continuing to keep an eye on storm scan three as more storms head our way this afternoon. katie right now is tracking potentially is he rear weather. she will let you know when these showers arrive in just a few minutes. right now though listen to this heavy rain kept rescue crews busy in western pennsylvania. water overflowed the banks of the brush creek and tribute tries outside pittsburgh early yesterday. rescue teams used a boat to rescue two people from two homes surrounded by water. they also rescued two drivers and it appears after their car was stuck in high water. days after a ice cave collapsed, crews are back on the scene working to sure up what is left of that structure.
