from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". damaging storms tear through the area league behind destruction like this in new castle county, delaware. this morning we now noah funnel cloud was seen in the area. we're live with the clean up coming up. >> following breaking news overnight, fire in east mt. airy home sends two people to the hospital. we'll have the details. >> the confederate flag is coming off the ground of the south carolina state house. >> and historic change in south carolina where the confederate flag comes down today. >> good morning, it is friday, july 10th, i i'm erika von tiehl. first, we do want to check in with katie and vittoria for traffic and weather together this morning, good morning. >> on my way in, katie there was flooding on the roadways,

ponding i had to drive through, i'm sure you ladies experienced that as well. >> yes severely impacting us. >> thankfully out of here, that's good news, we can take nice sigh of breath of fresher air since humidity is starting to not just gradually but quickly decline for us, so feels a lot more comfortable to you, skies are clearing, doing just the same. this is definitely the calm after the storm for us, we ends up with kim of days that look very similar. still warm outside. we lock ahead, first and for most here to "skycam 3", clear for the most part. you can at least see the center city skyline off in the distance, you can make out all of the light on the ben franklin bridge here, not only has the moisture left the building but so have the storms let's look at storm scan3, in fact, clear as a bell, haven't seen it in couple of days, nice news, meanwhile, there is what's left basically at this point of last night's storms, now well out to sea taking all of the moisture with it, taking all of the nasty heat

humidity with it still going to warm up as i mention current lip, still into the mid 70s big difference is the comfort level. just feels better outside. you're at 77 still in wildwood, but in the defendant renz by comparison into state college, scranton, currently into the low and upper 60s those are locations where you have seen the diminishing of the humidity, and the warmth, but still going to warm up easily here, not just in philadelphia, but even at the shore points, even in the poconos, full sunshine, the expectation for you and we can expect this to last us into the weekend which is great news, as well. vittoria, we send it on over to you. >> thank you, so much, katie well, i walk over to the green screen, just getting updated information about the vine street expressway. there you go. traveling on the vine street expressway the eastbound side just reopened, so you have great news there. they are going to be continuing to work on the vine for quite some time. so i can imagine almost every single night as you have been traveling you have been experiencing the construction

zones. as of right now the westbound side still compromised between the schuylkill and broad street. they should be wrapping things up soon. we do still have activity out there. so if you are traveling trying to get to the schuylkill expressway from 95, just take vine st. local, it will be easier. ninety-five traveling around cottman avenue, always, seeing those construction zones at both cottman and girard, narrow the roadway bus because we don't have any volume, not causing too much after problem. nine at traveling throughout the area of the northeast, or to and from trenton, or even delaware county, 95 fantastic. but we need to go down the mass transit checklist. weather affected us from yesterday. now to affect us this morning but the new jersey new jersey river line suspended between the walter rand station and the entertainment center. route ten trolley shuttle bussing. due to high flooding waters, few trolleys are on delay as well. give your so far more time this morning. we head back to the desk. >> thank you torrey. breaking news right now in

philadelphia's east mt. airy nare hood. fire rips through home in the 300 block of up sill street just before midnight. two people are rushed to the hospital for smoke inhalation and burns to their arms and hands. the cause of that fire is under investigation. some people in our area waking to up mess this morning, left behind by the severe weather that rolled through the region last night. >> take a look at this eyewitness picture of school destroyed in that storm. this is pretty incredible, blue mountain academy in estimate at any -- tilton, bucks county many school principal was in a classroom at the time but managed to escape un harm. jan carabeo live for us in new castle delaware with you funnel cloud was apparently spotted, right jan? >> reporter: good morning, the office of emergency management is on scene here in hard hit new castle county, delaware this morning as you can see so are a whole lot of power crews. they have been going non-stop, working around the clock this storm that blew through here last night caused a whole lot of damage. so let's get straight to the

video. exactly what came through here though last night is still unclear. the office of emergency management says just before 8:00 what appeared to be a funnel cloud moved through this area. the most significant damage was done here at the delaware river industrial park on docks on drive and nearby mobile home park. officials say the cloud appeared to be 30 feet above the grounds and caused walls to collapse at several commercial building, told the storm complex dollars at nearby mobile home park, downed utility polls, leaving some folks without power. earlier in the evening take look at this video there is storm rolled through points west as erika and nicole mentioned, in berks county, around 6:00 p.m. the blue mountain academy on mountain road, tilt on township, was destroyed, these pictures were posted to the school's facebook page two. feel were inside the building at the time but were able to escape unharmed. and in philadelphia, this huge tree came down on a house in the washington square west

section of the city. this surveillance video was taken from nearby home on the 1100 block of rodman street. fortunately, no one was hurt inside this home either. in fact, the homeowner was surprise today see all of the damage outside her door. take a listen. >> but during the stormy was putting my son to bed. i got a text from a neighbor saying are you okay, i said ya we're fine, then 20 minute later she rang our doorbell and said are you sure you're fine? i said yes. then she said why don't you look out the window, don't you noah tree went against your house. i had no idea we were completely shocked. >> now, a lot of clean is up necessary today, as you can imagine, there are so many downed trees and that means power crews are busy as well restoring power as you can see, working around the clock here in new castle. officials will have to come and take a look at this damage to determine exactly what came through here, whether it was indeed a tornado or whether it was straight line winds you can't see it from this angle. but coming up in the next half hour we'll try to see the

mobile home park just behind here that suffered significant damage in this area. for now live in new castle, delaware, jan carabeo cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> just incredible damage, thank if you. storms have led to power outages across our region. peco says more than 1500 homes and businesses are without power. delmarva, more than 1800 pse&g is also reporting about 1800 in the dark, and met-ed reporting more than 1600 outages. >> power is back on in old city this morning after underground explosion. "eyewitness news" cameras were the only ones rolling as dark smoke bill owed out of the ground there forced ' vacs as is in part of old city, street closures at landmarks. blown transformer caused the fire. the explosion, thankfully, no one was injured. erika? >> happening today, south carolina will fake down the confederate flag from the state house grounds. governor nicky haley signed the bill into law yesterday. supporters see the flag as

symbol of southern pride, but opponents say it is racist. calls for the flag to come down intensified following the mass shooting at emanuel ame church in charleston where nine people died. this historic change will be the topics of conversation at the naacp at the national convention, begins today in philadelphia. the convention pack with event, and speakers, including president obama and mayor michael nutter. it runs through next tuesday. nick snow. >> the world cup champion us women's soccer team will be honored with a ticker tape parade today. preparations are now underway in new york, scaffold something up, barricades in place, and of course, rolls and rolls of paper are being shredded n clifton, new jersey workers are pulling an all nighter there putting the finishing touches on the event parade float. event kicks off in a few hours at 11:00 this morning. very exciting there. carli lloyd. >> right now teenager in custody this morning charged with assault after police say he set a child on fire in west philadelphia. one year old glenn spears and friends were walking home wednesday from a swimming pool when they saw 17 year old ray the boys asked him for some hand sanitizer he allegedly squirt philadelphia all over them and then let the boys on fire with a lighter. "eyewitness news" spoke to glenn and his mother about what happened. >> i was mad and i was sad. >> i was appalled. i was appalled that anyone could even do this, anyone, it is a serious act. >> luckily, glenn is expected to be okay. he is facing several charges arson, wreck restly endangering another person. >> philadelphia police have launched internal investigation after youtube video shows officers beating suspect during arrest. now, it is not what happened before, it is in the known what happened before the

cameras started rolling on locust avenue in east germantown on april 3rd. los angeles blogger posted this video wednesday and identified that suspect was 22 year old tyriq hair old. officers seen repeatedly punching and kicking carol who was face down, charged with drug and assault offenses. >> police department says officers were injured attempt to go arrest the suspect, in a statement, police say quote as the officers stopped the defendant, he began to fight with the officers, biting one of the officers a total of three time, on the thigh hand and arm. the defendant also bit another officer on the forearm during this arrest. the entire incident social security reviewed for any department mental violations. >> pope francis visits bolivia's most notorious prison today. thousands lined the streets as the pope arrived for a mass in the city of santa cruz. the pope is on a week long

probably noticed it walking into the building today. i check out our area dew points, the lower the dew points drier the air still high, but the moisture really getting out of here. i feel like right now it is more about how it feel rather than what the they are mom term reads on the dew point. yes, so, it is feeling really comfortable outside. avenue feeling we will see the dew point decline their decline into the low 60s just nicer outside for one thing obviously, gotten rid of the storms, cleared out, skies have done the same, that means, more sunshine for us than anything here today. we start things off by looking at the region wide zoom, more so out to sea what i want to focus on here. see retreat of all of the storms. now, high pressure will set itself up for couple every days here, and granted it is still going to be very, very warm outside but we're not talking about any additional thunderstorm, not talking about any additional systems high pressure is it. and it will keep us in some very nice weather with perfect timing no less. the weekends obviously right upon us, take you back in time, talk about things that

have gone on. wind damage surge issue yesterday. we talked yesterday in fact if you were with us about the primary threat being the heavy rain and the wind. sure enough, in racer berg, ended up with roof damage, trees, wires down in downingtown, new castle not only partial collapse of several building but funnel cloud spotted. we await what will happen with the national weather service whether they'll actually go and try to determine whether there was in fact a tornado or not. regardless, the bottom line is it is gone. less humidity today plenty of sunshine, yes, warm, but seasonably so. it is mid-july after all. this is what we expect, no where near as muggy tonight. if you wanted to lever the windows dragged, tired of the air-conditioning that you have had on for the last few days, you can get away with later tonight. a lot more comfortable granted hot weekend but not terrible. low 90s by sunday, but still not really that humid. although by monday, our next disturbance moves in bringing in fresh rounds of late day thunderstorms, nicole, we send

also stolen. now, the data was stored at the office of personnel management the federal government's clearing house for employee information. so far there is no evidence that it has been used for identity theft or financial crimes. it is pretty scary. nicole erika? >> jill, we mentioned it i think couple of weeks back, the treasury department planning to put woman on the, what, 10-dollar bill. >> exactly. >> but not everyone on board apparently. what's going on with that? >> so, there is at least one person who is unhappy about a plan to take alexander hamilton off the 10-dollar bill. his great great great great grandson doug hamilton. he said he is okay with plans to put a woman on paper money but he thinks the treasury department should leave the ten alone. erika, nicole? >> he's just a little biased. >> sure, i get it. >> if it was your great great great great grandpa? >> he has been the source of the family for generations.

>> 4:55 your friday morning, vittoria, you must be exhausted. you were at the shore last night, how was it? >> so tired, after big rack of ribs. anybody -- >> oh, you slept well last night, okay? i mean, i got couple of hours but right now traffic wise, the roads are looking good. we were impacted by the weather yesterday though. so katie how are we doing weather wise today? >> thankfully it is so much better. complete turn around for us, sort of proverbial calm after the storm right? you have lower humidity, full sunshine, still seasonable warmth to go with it, just to give you quick check on the eyewitness weather three-day forecast weekends looks pretty much phenominal at this point, too. haven't been able to say that in a couple every weeks.

will have those places where we are dealing still with some flooding katie that storm last night was serious. >> it really was just solid line that rolled on through here, brought primarily exactly what we expected in fact in the way of the heavy rain, strong wind, in fact, i want to take you back in time first and for most, show in you fact what went on over philadelphia. so we take you out to one of the live neighborhood network cameras, go back to time lapse. this is overlooking center city obviously from the distance outside the leadership academy here in philadelphia. and this happens between the hours of 7:45, 8:45, just watch what happens whether we put it into motion. man, i mean, these clouds just obviously roll in, you completely lose visibility, and then just like that, things start to brighten up again. so it was a fast hitter, granted, in any given location but thankfully, we can report now that all of the damaging storms are long-gong and storm scan has long since cleared out, in fact, so has the humidity for that matter. so feeling a
