poofs! ♪ that sugar is gone! so do i still love this yogurt? yes! because it still tastes good! yoplait! >> ♪ >> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news"." >> a philadelphia golf course becomes a crime scene tonight after a woman is attacked and raped. good evening, i'm diana rocco. police say the rapist is still on the loose tonight. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson has the latest on the search for the suspect. >> reporter: on a sunny saturday afternoon it's hard to imagine a place like this could ever be a crime scene.

>> it is disturbing to hear that news obviously. >> reporter: but just hours earlier it looked like this. philadelphia police on scene at the cobbs creek golf club after allegations of a heinous act. police say here a 26-year-old woman reported being sexually assaulted early saturday morning. the report says the woman was walking to work at about 3:30 saturday morning south on cardington street when she passed a man walking in the opposite direction. police say the man spins around gets behind her grabs her arm and drags her onto the course behind a line of trees where the assault takes place. >> again when you hear a story like this, it makes you kind of think. >> reporter: havertown resident kevin calvert brought his two sons to the course saturday and he calls the crime terrible but not symptomatic of the municipal ground or the area. >> this is something that has nothing to do with the golf course but it's a problem with the community and that

hopefully, you know -- hopefully the perpetrator is caught. >> reporter: and it is early in the investigation but philadelphia police say there is no indication that this is a pattern at this point. there is a basic description of the suspect. we've put all that information on our web site at cbsphilly.com. if you know anything about this, you're asked to call police immediately. reporting from the philadelphia police department's special victims unit i'm steve patterson cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> turning now to weather. it was an absolutely beautiful day today. will this warm weather stick around? katie is in for justin tonight. what a night katie. >> oh, absolutely. it's so comfortable outside. i think that's really the key here. storm scan3 is completely clear and it's going to stay that way now that high pressure has built in place here. the heat sticks around but does the beautiful weather do the same? not so much. but we are at least going to get the rest of your weekend in here without a hitch. storm scan is totally empty out there.

that's that should say sunday morning, my bad. we're expecting temperatures to dip down to 70 degrees. waking up to temperatures in the mid and upper 60's around the region as whole. we look forward in our forecast here and the sun is expected to shine basically just all across-the-board here. a couple puffy white clouds for us, nothing more than. that it will be sunny hot tomorrow at 91 degrees so certainly a few degrees above where we normally find those thermometer readings. down at the shore points, you picked a good beach weekend. we continue the theme. low and mid 80's the expectation at the shore points and in the mountains it's beautiful as well with sunshine and again thankfully some nice low humidity for you. as we continue to talk about what's going to go on with our weather pattern beyond this point sunny sunday, the heat does hang on but storms eventually return and we'll be timing all of that out for you, give you a sense of what's yet to come in the full forecast a little bit later in the show. diana back to you. >> thanks katie. new jersey mother and her daughter drowned while kayaking on the delaware river. it happened last night just

north of bull's island state park in hunterdon county. police say 45-year-old doris rake and her 19-year-old daughter katherine haney were not wearing life jackets when their kayaks overturned. they're both from raritan township. four people are occurring tonight after a boat ran aground near long island beach -- long beach island rather. it happened shortly before 2 o'clock this afternoon near the south end of the island. police say the 53-foot boat had 13 people aboard. of the four injured a woman was flown to the hospital by helicopter with head injuries not clear what caused the accident. dozens evacuated from a rhode island beach after a powerful explosion injures one woman. beachgoers in narragansett heard a loud boom around 11 o'clock this morning. a woman in her 60's was thrown into jetty rocks. her injuries are known life-threatening. the state police and bomb squad are investigating whether someone planted something in the sand and then fled the scene. so far no bomb residue has

been found. a car accident that sent five people to the hospital remains under investigation tonight. this was the scene early this morning on route 413 and state road in bristol township. police say the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when it flipped over a median and entered a nearby field. the road was shut down for five hours while police investigated. it's official. former sixers first round pick joel embiid is expected to miss all of next season. the story broke this afternoon that embiid will miss the season because he needs a seconds surgery on his injured right foot. the sixers said last month that embiid had a setback. sixers general manager sam ming keysamhinkie released this statement a short timing a:

we'll have more on that coming up in sports. the 106th annual naacp national convention is under way this weekend in philadelphia and new tonight the civil rights organization lifted its 15 year economic boycott of south carolina. the move comes just a day after lawmakers in south carolina removed the confederate flag from the statehouse grounds. earlier today officials kicked off the convention way ribbon cutting. "eyewitness news" at the pennsylvania convention center after the ribbon cutting hundreds of attended the commerce and industry seven. the theme of this year's gathering is pursuing liberty in the face of injustice. the naacp national convention runs through july 15th. >> ♪ donald trump defends his comments about mexican immigrants today at two events in the southwest. the region at the center of the immigration debate. trump has lost business deals

and drawn fire from his gop colleagues but he's gaining in the polls. cbs news correspondent kenneth craig has more. [cheers and applause] >> reporter: donald trump continued to sweep across the southwest saturday refusing to back down on his immigration stance. he's even confident that he hasn't alienated hispanic americans. >> if i get the nomination, i will win the hispanic vote. >> reporter: but when it came time for audience questions at his first event in las vegas he was confronted about his controversial comments. >> i'm actually from mexico. i'm incredibly insulted by the remarks. >> i was waiting for this. did the government of mexico ask you to come up here and make this. >> oh, of course. >> reporter: at a sector stop in phoenix thousands of supporters packed the city's convention center where organizers were forced to relocate when the event grew too large. >> we have to stop illegal immigration. we have to. [cheers and applause] >> we have to. >> donald trump has got to go. >> reporter: protesters have met trump at many of his stops

including in los angeles friday. there he met with people who said their loved ones were killed by illegal immigrants. but despite his questionable remarks, recent polls show him neck and neck with jeb bush leading the party's race for the 2016 nomination. ken neck craig for cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> lawmakers in greece have approved a bailout proposal. it includes spending cuts and tax hikes to resolve the country's financial crisis. the $50 billion proposal is very similar to the offer from the european union that was rejected by the prime minister and voters. right now eu leaders are reviewing the bailout plan. many experts say this is greece's last chance to avoid bankruptcy and stay in the euro. greek banks have been shut for the past two weeks and atm withdrawals have been rationed. a group calling itself the egyptian arm of isis has claimed responsibility for a deadly bombing at the italian

consulate in cairo. one person was killed when a car bomb destroyed a section of the historic building today. the terrorists say the car contained 990 pounds of explosives. the authenticity of the claim saturday could not be immediately verified but it was distributed widely on social media like prior claims made by the group. pope francis' latin american tour brings him to par gray. this morning the holy father delivered mass in front of tens of thousands of people packed into the plaza outside the basilica. much of the crowd waited in the rain for hours before the sun came up. many burst into tears when the pontiff passed by in his pope mobile. pope francis will be here in philadelphia for the world meeting of families at the end of september. head to cbsphilly.com for up to date details of the pontiff's upcoming visit and its impact on the city. >> ♪ still to come on "eyewitness news" tonight, a typhoon blasts eastern china forcing more than a million evacuations.

>> typhoon chan-hom hit the chinese coast today. it forced evacuation of more than 1 million people and cancellation of hundreds of flights. the typhoon is slamming the area with 100 miles per hour winds and has dumped 4-inches of rain since friday. it's now head for south korea. so far no deaths or injuries have been reported. well, take a look at this. a wrong way driver with a twist. this car is traveling backwards.

another motorist captured the crazy sight with his cell phone the car drove backwards along several streets in los angeles for more than 2 miles. it crossed the center line went around curves and even changed lanes just missing other vehicles. police are now looking for that driver. the nfl and philadelphia soul honored men and women in uniform today with a special football game. the wounded warriors took on the nfl alumni including some former eagles. and boy was it a showdown. has faced off against nfl alumni in philadelphia. >> they squared most of the people off that played last year. that's how intimidating they were last year. >> reporter: some names you may know. others you should. >> lastier i was in a wheelchair. this is going to be totally different. >> reporter: gregory is a philly native who lost his will leg to a roadside bomb in afghanistan in 2012. he's among the nation's finest strong in every sense. to ensure another victory they brought along two junior all strong. devin jackson has legs affected by bacterial meningitis. and jade lost one of hers to an acl surgery. >> i just have to practice 'cause i just kept on practicing on this one leg and each time i practiced my leg kept on getting stronger. >> it gets pretty intense man. >> reporter: currently the wounded warriors amputee team sits at a comfortable 12 and zero against the alumni. the crowds stood to clear on a team who makes it look easy to be wounded and also be a

last night at the metlife stadium the players joined swift during her hit song style waving american flags and singing along. they also brought along their world cup trophy and let taylor hold it. harrison ford is revealing new details about the new star wars movie the force awakens. ford was joined by fellow cast members markham mel and carry fisher at comicon in san diego they debuted a scene behind the scenes reel and told the crowd another star wars trailer will be coming out in the fall before the december release. ford says he's excited to reprise his role as hasn't hans solo. >> it was a great experience for me. i had a great time doing it. we have a fantastic cast. we have the skill and the wit and the ambition of j.j. abrams. >> this was ford's first public appearance since he was

injured in a plane crash back in march. we really got lucky today weather-wise many was a beautiful day. >> so beautiful. blue skies couple of puffy clouds. it was nice and warm a great pool day or beach. >> yeah, beach. >> we were so jealous of everybody. >> i know. it was a nice day to be in the air conditioning too though. >> that absolutely is correct for sure and you know we are expecting to end up here with another very, very warm day tomorrow but what we don't necessarily have to deal with yet is the humidity. that's going to stay relatively low. even despite the heat that's going to be building so it could be far far worse in terms of the mugginess. but we're going to keep it nice and comfortable for you. all things considered for mid-july that is anyway. let's take you outside we're going to show you what's happening outside. first and foremost a view of skycam3 which at this point is very quiet. it will stay that way for probably the next flicks hours or so. we start to see our next disturbance moving in. i want to show you another

view outside our live neighborhood network and off in the distance is the center city skyline here so this is take taken from palmyra cove nature park. very calm delaware river right now. you can see the lights gleaming off there. generally we have nice clear skies. it's absolutely beautiful outside and comfortable, too. that really is the biggest thing that you'll notice when you walk out the door. storm scan3 in the meantime has a disturbance crawling on through portions of maryland, really just the midatlantic in general but it all migrated off to the south and east so we are in the clear from that. high pressure has regained control. a little sign of life across illinois and end and that is the next batch of moisture and eventually a warm front that will be lifting into our area come monday night. looking at future weather you're not going to see too much taking place. we wake up tomorrow under a completely clear sky a-great excuse maybe have your morning cup of coffee out on the porch and anything you got going on outside looks good tomorrow. sunblock required though, my friends. then we start to see that

moisture building up off to the west and that's again the sign of things to come. so really we'll stay dry most of the day on monday but later that night some of that moisture is what i think starts to trigger that potential for a shower or storm. still a window of opportunity for those outdoor plans. dewpoints pretty low all things considered. a little spiked down in dover but if you're around 65 or lower you don't fall all that much humidity and we're at about 66 obviously here in philly down to the ac airport still not terrible considering where the temperature profile is right now. in the mid scents in philly and pretty much everywhere else. just a little bit cooler by comparison as you go up towards mount pocono which is the place to be if you're looking for some of the coolest air we've got for you on sunday. association the sun will seventy nine you're going to the beaches. all the resorts look fantastic. nice and warm, 83 but still with the relatively low humidity. u.v. index that will be up there again sunblock required and the rip current risk thankfully low. you always want to swim near

the lifeguards. we always advise that but not any major risk when it comes to that. mainly clear and tranquil tonight as we drop down to 70 degrees virtually no wind and without humidity it's not the worst excuse to leave the ac off for another night and save yourself the energy bill. a hot summer day tomorrow, the the high 91. normal high is about 87 so we're obviously above that. we'll keep the sunshine for you as well and a quick check on that eyewitness weather seven-day forecast for you lots of eight's are showing up for the next couple of days here. 88 monday, tuesday wednesday and then come thursday it does look as though that frontal boundary that brings in those showers and thunderstorms will

>> as we towed you earlier in the show the sixers confirmed the story that broke this afternoon. former first round pick joel embiid is expected to miss next season. the sixers released a statement this evening saying that a routine scan of his injured right foot in june showed less healing than expected. after going over the options the team and embiid decided that surgery was best course of action. he'll have the operation in the next seven to 10 days and is expected to miss the entire season. meanwhile the sixers taking o lakers in las vegas summer league. play of the night for the sixers the alley-oop to j carr samson. the sixers didn't have enough for the win tonight they lose 68 to 60. phillies continues their road trip on the west coast tonight against the giants in san francisco. the game is tied at one in the fifth inning. the phillies are one loss away from matching a club record for the most losses before the all-star break. the union at home tonight playing on portland -- taking
