lazers like these point to airplanes mid flight are potentially blinding piolets and putting many people in danger. some of those lazers may have come from our area. good afternoon i'm pat is her. >> i'm erika von tiehl. eleven commercial flights were affected half close to newark liberty international airport the others near ocean city, robinsville, the pennsylvania boarder. >> today we are hearing that

some of the calls are coming from the pilot. we get more from andrea grime of our sister station wcbs in newark. >> someone shooting lazers. >> that just happened again? >> affirmative. a lazer about four or 5 miles back. >> getting lazer at 10:00. >> who is getting the lazer at 10:00 o'clock? >> united 330. >> and american 1976 checking in with you and we just got the lazer also, here at 3,000. >> well, those green glaring lights seen here in fbi simulation video are small but aimed at the cockpit. they leave a pilot temporarily blind. last night's incident so dangerous air traffic control had to choose landing patterns of several flights. and this is not the first time that the new york area has seen lazer pointers aimed at landing flight. last year alone, new york airports reported about 100

incidents. pointing a lazer at a plane is a crime. if convicted could you face 20 years and $250,000 in fines. >> that was reporter andrea grimes every sister station wcbs in new york, much more on the story tonight for you on "eyewitness news" starting at 5:00. >> breaking right now, car has crashed into a building in bustleton, chopper three over the scene at grant avenue and welsh rd. about an hour ago. right now, there are no reports of any injuries. we'll bring you an update on this developing story as soon as we know more. >> also, breaking, a tense situation in drexel hill within the hour, where live wires came down on a truck. chopper three over garrett road morgan avenue, where one man had to stay inside that truck until peco gets the wires out of service. that man is okay now and everything is back to normal. >> after days of humidity, this is welcome relief from the mountains to the shore. meteorologist, katie fehlinger, live for us on the cbs-3 skydeck with real pleasant forecast, hey katy?

>> and i have to tell you pat, from the time we started the show here, i was just out here feeling the sun on my back. it is so comfortable. for mid to late july, you don't typically find humidity levels this low. so my advice is to enjoy this while you have got it. it is a gift from mother nature that won't necessarily last all that long. so let's start things off by taking to you another view here of the live neighborhood network, where we have beautiful sunshine, waves lapping up on the shore line, lots of folks taking advantage of what's proving to be absolutely fantastic beach day here in margate. and pretty much every other shore town. storm scan3 as you might imagine, is empty and it will stay that way now that high pressure has built in place. so where do we stand temperature wise? this comfort at its finest, talking mid 70s here at high noon 69 degrees, even up at mount pocono, with that low humidity combination, making it feel just so so pleasant outside. and i could say that you might even be able to just for go the air conditioner here tonight, be completely comfortable, safe on the

energy bill for a night why not? in the 80s here in philadelphia today few degrees shy of seasonable, but the sun will shine everywhere. it is so pleasant outside. like i said, though, this is a pattern that can't last forever. we'll tell when you to expect not just more humidity and heat but also thunderstorms as the show progresses, for now we send it back into you guys. >> katie, thank you. thank goodness it wasn't as sticky and humid today because the mess on the schuylkill expressway, this morning, oh, all that garbage could have been far worse for many of us. the trash truck overturned on the schuylkill around 5:30 this morning chopper three over the schuylkill at southbound route 202 where there was trash scattered all over the roadway. there were no injuries, and thankfully, that mess is now cleaned up. one person is in hahnemann hospital after violent home invasion in fishtown early this morning. police say two armed men barge into a home on the 1200 block of shackmackson street around 4:00 this morning. they pistol whipped one resident, grabbed few items before taking off.

those two suspects remain on the loose. a man is in critical condition after a shooting in grays ferry around 10:30 last night. that man was shot several times, near 26th and dickinson streets. that is where police found shotgun and spent shell casings from a handgun. they say this likely indicates that there were two weapons and two shooters. investigators say, there are surveillance cameras, near that scene and they're gathered this video right now. >> planned parenthood is on the defensive facing an investigation of its practices. an undercover video alleges that the organization sells body parts from abortions. planned parenthood says that's not true. correspondent january crawford reports from washington where three congressional committees are getting involved. >> in graphic detail, planned parenthood senior director of medical services described how to preserve valuable fetal tissue during a abortion.

>> over wine and salad, she answered questions about the organization providing fetal tissue to researchers. typically for a fee. >> i would say it is probably anywhere from $32 -- depends on the facility, what's involved. >> congress announced it will investigate. >> i don't care how much political weight planned parenthood throws around this town. no one is above the law. >> but planned parenthood said it is following the law it, provides the tissue legally for scientific research with consent from patient and no financial benefit. any fees merely are to cover costs. point the doctor made repeatedly. >> planned parenthood blasted heavily edited video as the work of extreme anti-abortion activists, david deleadon --

>> still receiving $50 $75 sometimes $100, per specimen, per fetal part. >> he said his group has up to dozen additional videos of top officials from planned parenthood from across the country, which he's going to be releasing in the days and weeks to come. and we asked planned parenthood for an interview but so far they've nod made anyone available. january crawford, cbs news, washington. former president george h.w. bush is recovering at a maine hospital after breaking bone in his neck. he fell at his summer honk in kennybunkport yesterday. spokesman said mr. bush will have to wear a neck brace, but that he is recovering while surrounded by his family. this morning bush's granddaughter, jena, tweeted this: always touched by kindness, thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers for our dear ganps. we are optimistic he will heal well. >> new jersey governor republican presidential canned can't chris christie for justice reform. we want to give you live look

>> weather so cooperative for there is i know they had to push it back because of the storms yesterday. >> worth the wait, though. >> absolutely, talk about pay off. >> this will be just one of those stellar summer days, and franklin, it is not all that come on to have day like this in the middle of july. >> very true. >> just such a nice change of pace for our area with this low how many i had at this to go along with the temperatures that granted are nice and warm, but not too hot, just right how long does it last? that's why i'm here to answer for you. we are expect to go see not just temperatures spike but also potentially new heatwave. what we're forecasting anyway. start things off by taking you on out down the shore here, where so, so lovely. so many people out and about. walking the board enjoying the day, ocean city cape may county, and you're going to find this i think in a lot of spot really today tomorrow, even into the upcoming weekends start to see humidity spike. overall still couple of nice days coming up. but there is a change that's

coming our way looking ahead to the weekend which we will get to. let me take you back here to the humidity thing. we talk about the dew point. what is measuring moisture content in the air. current dew point is 55. basic rule of thumb is the lower the dew point the drier the air. when you get to about 65 degrees, for dew point temperature, that's when you start to notice the humidity. >> so comfortable outside perfect hair day, storm scan3 watching the retreat thankfully of all of that nastiness that rolled through yesterday with the heavy thunderstorms and the lightning, but off to the west you can already see the combination of some storms that continue to, well definately pomeling iowa early this morning, starting to fizzle somewhat. but this is what is eventually going to be moving our way. talking tropics couple of waves to discuss here, across right near the equator. but we're not expecting any kind of tropical activity even though this would be your typical breeding ground, for this time of year. it is to has just been quiet season, in part, due to el

nino. but, that said, we're not worried about any tropical development in the next, say five to seven days, so that's certainly good news. one thing you got to keep in mind here hitting the shore points guys, today specifically there is moderate risk for rip current. we always want you to swim near the lifeguards anyway, but specially when at moderate risk, just keep, take it easy out, there make sure you keep close to the lifeguards right? sunny, nice day out there the high of 78 at the air shore point, sun block required, of course, and we're going to keep this nice theme going by tomorrow. eight a degrees under the sunshine, then we heat it up. take a look. three days straight of 90 or above. and that does officially make it a heatwave. that's what we're forecasting right now see if the temperatures actually verify there, but yes some heat and steam returning to the forecast. but, back to today this is great day to be a meteorologist, because it is so nice outside. i like bringing you good news. but we let some aspiring weather forecasting try their forecasting at the crayola experience, take a look.
