natasha? >> reporter: jessica neighbors tell us about the vick toy. they say she garaged in june. she kept to herself all the time. she was very quite. never bothered anyone which leads police with the question who want to kill her and why? >> it's just sad because she was a very quiet to herself person. >> reporter: shocked and saddened neighbors had nothing but kind words for the 27-year-old woman found dead inside her third floor apartment in the 200 block of south 50th street. keith hooks describes a quiet, pleasant unassuming young woman now the victim of an apparent homicide. >> it's hurting me just to know it's right next door and to happen to that person who didn't bother a soul. >> she was in her third floor apartment in the front bedroom laying on the bed. appears she was severely beaten and possibly strangled. she was pronounced on the scene. >> reporter: homicide detectives identified the victim as 27 year odd jasmine wright. drexel university officials confirm she was a 2015 graduate

of drexel school of public health. police now left with the mystery of who would kill the recent graduate and why. >> it was secure building. it was -- it's three apartments in the building. she lived on the top floor. it's two other tenants below her. but it's very secure facility you need a key to get in downstairs and to get into her apartment. >> reporter: nathan marlo and his wife lived in the neighbor less than year. never fearful of their safety. >> never worried. i mean i walk around late at night all the time. just with working late and coming home late i never worried at all. >> i'm really upset about this. i have my grandchildren, you know, and the neighborhood is pretty good. you know, we sit out and, you know, the kids run and they play here. so, yeah this is really surprising. >> startle thed long-time neighbors are used to seeing students blending into the neighbor. no one want to go ever get used to seeing this kind of tragedy so close to home. >> she was very nice girl. she would just come and go and it's sad. it's sad. too close to home. >> reporter: well homicide

detectives are vigorously follow following leads and interviewing witnesses at this hour. they're asking anyone with information about this case to please contact them right away. we're live at police headquarters tonight, natasha brown, cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> natasha, thank you. also tonight fbi investigate wagon motivate add young gunman to go on rampage and kill four marines in chatanooga, tennessee tennessee. right now we're learning new details about the gunman who targeted a recruiting center and a reserve center in that area. witnesses say a lone gunman in a silver mustang convertible drove up to this chatanooga armed forces office and openedire. the shoe reappeared minutes later at a training facility 7 miles away where he rammed his car through a gate and killed four marines and injured two others the gunman identified as 24-year-old muhammed youseff abdulazeez died in a shootout with police. >> they arrived on the scene extremely quickly and they actively and enthusiastic klee

engaged this brazen criminal. >> authorities swarmed his home within hours. fbi says he's a naturalized u.s. citizen born in kuwait but lived with his family here in the area. they do not though why he targeted the military in his assault. >> look at his friends family, his associates. anybody who is associated with him to determine the cause or the reason why he conduct this attack. people visiting a make shift memorial tried to make sense of the tragedy. >> the message is simple. why would you hurt your own protectors? >> officials say abdulazeez was not on any us terror list and the fbi was not aware of any terrorists leanings. the department of defense has increased security at certain federal facilities in abundance of caution as the investigation moves forward. stay with "eyewitness news" for continuing coverage of the chatanooga shooting rampage as new details emerge we'll bring them to you on television and

online at cbsphilly.com. well tonight a jury found the colorado movie theater massacre gunman guilty of murder. james holmes stood silently as the judge read the guilty verdicts on all 165 counts. 12 people were killed and 70 others were injured at a movie theater in aurora, colorado just outside of denver. monday mark the third anniversary of the attack. the jury deliberated for 13 hours over two days before rejecting the 27 year old's mental illness defense. holmes faces the death penalty when the sentenceing phase begins next wednesday. detectives are investigating tonight after police exchanged gunfire with the suspect wanted in grocery store robbery. the story is unfolding on the 6400 block of market street in millbourne. "eyewitness news" reporter diana rocco is live there with details on what happened. diana? >> reporter: jessica that robbery suspect is in critical condition tonight after police say he walk into that grocery store announce add robbery and pulled a gun on the clerk.

police say around 7:00 o'clock tonight at the corner of 64th and mark streets in millbourne the suspect walked into this corner grocery store and showed a gun and announceing a robbery. he emptied the cash register and left. that's when the owner called police. police say moments later suspect was walking towards the 63rd street station police stopped him and he pulled a gun. two millbourne police officers fired on the suspect and he shot back. evidence markers show where the bullet casings fell. police say the suspect fled toward the 63rd street station throwing a gun in the woods. police apprehended him on the corner. he had a gunshot wound to the chest and abdomen area. money and clothing are still on the ground. police took the man to penn presbyterian hospital. county police are now taking over the investigation. and we did speak with several witnesses tonight who did not want to be identified. they said they did see the suspect firing as he was running away from police earlier this evening. those two officers were not injured.

we're live in millbourne, diane if a rocco cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> diana thank you. the fbi confirms five recent bank robberies in northeast philadelphia may all be connected. the latest hold up happened today in somerton just before 1:00 p.m. at the citizens bank park on the 1100 block of roosevelt boulevard. police say the robber was a woman dressed in full female muslim clothing. and fbi spokesman tells "eyewitness news" they do believe this incident is connected to a recent string of similar robberies in the northeast. each time the bank robber worn muslim clothing. >> this concerns us obviously anybody in such a short period of time just since the beginning of june this many robberies although a weapon has not been displayed, she threatens violence. >> the fbi says two of the banks were inside supermarkets. the other three were stand alone branches. philadelphia district attorney seth williams hit the streets tonight for one of his summer community walks. williams and community leaders walked in west philadelphia near 60th and mark and da says this is a chance for him to hear

directly from residents and to educate people about the legal and social services of the philly da's office. >> friends came together tonight to help with fun riser for popular center city chef. chef he lie kulp was on amtrak train 188 that jumped the tracks in port richmond in may. he hasn't been in the kitchen since due to severe spinal cord injuries from that crash. tonight his piers and business partner and people who just wanted to help out gathered in old city to help raise money for his treatment and recovery. >> it is up lifting to know that um, there are people behind you especially i'm sure he'll lie feels you know, this is an mazing event and, you know, we all wish you could be here with us. >> organizers hope to raise $150,000 to help chef kulp. well tonight a new warning from the faa about laser danger in the skies after pilots report having lasers pointed at them while flying over new jersey. this is this is what the glare looks like from an fbi training

video. it's an issue "eyewitness news" has been following now for some time. 11 commercial flights told the faa a laser pointer beamed into their cockpits last night. coast guard helicopter also reported a laser comeing from ocean city. >> it's really, really dangerous dangerous. it puts the mission and the air crew both in jeopardy. >> i think it's wrong. i think it could really hurt a lot of people. so i think it's totally wrong to do something like that. >> fortunately no one was hurt in any of the incidents. her story has captured an captivated the world. new tonight the teenager who survived the plane crash in the mountains of washington state is speaking out. what she says happened right before the plane went down. also ahead tonight you have digital amnesia from your smart phone? many people do according to new research. health reporter stephanie stahl has more on this new kind of brain drain. kate? >> what a beautiful day it was today. another one on the way tomorrow. but then we're talking about a

back now on "eyewitness news" philadelphia police are looking for this man who they say broke into the betsy ross house courtyard. surveillance video shows him climbing over the gate and off camera police say he breaks into a vendor's freezer and takes several boxes of food items. he then climbs back over the gate and takes off. tonight the teenaged girl who walked away from plain crash in washington state is speaking about that traumatic ordeal. 16-year-old autumn was the only

survivor. she was flying with her step grandparents when they hit bad weather saturday. the plane crashed into the mountainside and burst into flames. she talked about the final moment she saw her step grandparents alive. >> we saw nothing. we couldn't see a thing and grandpa he was -- he was kind of panicking. we couldn't get the gps to work and, um, then he said that he was just going to try to fly up. he started to go up and we just -- i just -- we didn't see anything until we saw trees. >> she found help two days after that crash amazeingly. she suffered only minor burns and bruises. on the cbs3 health watch tonight, digital amnesia. it's when you forget numbers and other important information because they live in your smart phone or other devices. >> health reporter stephanie stahl has more on this new kind of brain drain that so many of us are suffering from. >> reporter: they're called smart phones for a reason.

they remember everything. like frequently called phone numbers, no need to memorize them any more. phone home, it's right there in favorites. along with mom. new study of a thousand americans found most people cannot recite basic phone numbers any more. instead, they're trusting trusting that their handy cell phone will keep the needed information on file for them. >> i know a lot of people that don't know their own phone number. >> i got one better for you. a lot of people forget -- we forget our home phone number. >> forget about finding the number in favorites. it's usually not displayed. just the name you're calling. 65% of people couldn't recall their child's phone number which is often filed in favorites. >> there's some pretty good evidence that the brain has built in forgetting mechanism mechanismingsmechanismingses so material you don't require is push farther back. >> reporter: neurologist jerome free man says, digital amnesia isn't exactly bad for your brain. >> that's how the brain

further east these showers and storms could approach our area as we get into saturday but until then, we're sitting pretty pretty. saturday we will be watching for a couple of pop up showers and storms but it doesn't look like a wash out. 63 right now in millville. that is cool for this time of the year. 67 in dover. it's 70 in newark, delaware. at the airport 70 as well but look at chalfont 63 degrees. woodstown 64. 66 in voorhees. kind of weather you may want a light sweater or jacket if you're stepping out tonight. 61 in quakertown and 57 right now in mount pocono. so what do we have to look forward to? high pressure moves away tomorrow is a warm day but we see mostly sunny conditions. then this system approaches. could bring some showers to the area maybe even a straight shower in the morning. then we get some sun. but another chance for few pop up showers in the afternoon again not a wash out. just mainly those typical summertime showers and storms and sunday pretty much the same story. hot and humid with a shower or thunderstorm. so we heat up again. tomorrow we're in the mid 80s pretty seasonal and then the heat wave begins. right around 90 on saturday.

even if we stay at 89, though, we've got three more days in the 90s so a heat wave no matter which way you slice it hottest looks like sunday that's also when the humidity will peak as well. here's our spike in humidity over the neck few days. tomorrow still in the pleasant range but very quickly even through the day tomorrow, humidity will rise. and we head right toward oppressive by sunday and monday. through the overnight hours tonight, though, 64 degrees in the city. that is fantastic for mid july very comfortable. and for tomorrow, mostly sunny pleasant 85 degrees for your friday. take look down the shore if you are heading down the shore we've got a nice friday for you to sit on the sand make sure you slatter on the sunscreen that sun is hot and will burn you quickly outside. saturday warmer with afternoon thunderstorm at 83. and sunday warm and humid down the shore but not as hot as in the city. 85 down the shore. 94 on sunday though in philadelphia. when you factor in the humidity it will feel close to 100 degrees. so if you don't head down the shore, you may what happened to blow up the cool in the backyard or call one of your friends that
