evening but sweltering heat is about to make come back. it's going to feel close to 100 degrees by the end of the weekend. >> not only is heat on the horizon there's also a chance for storms. good evening i'm jessica dean. >> i'm ukee washington. looks like our beautiful weather is coming to an end. meteorologist kate bilo on the sky deck right now tracking the heat and the humidity. kate? >> ukee and jessica almost hard to believe that we're talking about oppressive heat and humidity it feels so great out here right now. temperatures are still in the 70s. there's nice comfortable breeze. really not feeling bad for your friday night. i hope you enjoyed today and yesterday because it's going to get hot it's going to get hot very quickly and noticeably as we head into tomorrow. let's take look what's happening outside as far as the storm threat is concerned on storm scan3 nothing happening right now but as we zoom out you can see across the state of pennsylvania we do have some showers and storms. a few of those could try to work in early tomorrow morning. they will be scattered at best. but we are watching some shower and storm activity back to the west over the ohio valley a few of those storms could try to

sneak through our area during the midday hours tomorrow. again they'll be scattered but keep an eye to the sky if you'll out and about saturday afternoon. the other story of course the rising temperatures right now it's 75 at the airport. 73 in reading. it feels great but take look at saturday's high. get to 90 degrees. the humidity ramps quite a bit as welch it will feel like 97 at the heist afternoon tomorrow much the worst of the heat wave sunday 95 degrees. feeling more like 100 and a heat advisory has already been issued during the midday hours on sunday for philadelphia and surrounding suburbs. take all necessary precautions drink plenty of water, avoid strenuous activity out in the heat on sunday. again feeling like the triple digits. coming up i'll little you know how long this heat wave will last and take look at your weekend shore cast with the seven day forecastly back inside to you. >> kate, thank you. video is incredible. a brush fire jumps over a california freeway engulfing a tractor trailer a car carrier and more than a dozen vehicle. the fire is burning more than thee thousand acres in near los

angeles tonight. drivers got out. they ran for their lives when the fire spread across the 15 freeway and it's good thing they did police initially told them to stay in their cars. that fire later spread to at least five homes as it raced up the hills. only minor injuries were reported. new tonight, one man is dead and another is wounded after a shooting near a philadelphia playground with children nearby. this story is unfolding at 60th and columbia in the overbrook neighborhood. our natasha brown is on the scene right now with more on this story. natasha? >> reporter: ukee, we are here just outside of the play ground tonight police are still here on the scene. four shell casings have been recovered. in a shooting just steps away from and in children. on a breezy summer evening play time for more than 40 children at the playground in overbrook was interrupted by gunfire. >> we're working out our normal work out we do. next thing we know we just hear gunshots pop pop pop.

next thing we know we turning around. we have our kids out here playing around. we're frantic. we rush over and make the kids all right. >> the kids running and we just started taking cover. >> reporter: children and adults scurried for cover. police arrived at 6:45 p.m. to find a 42-year-old male lying on the sidewalk just outside of the play ground. he had been shot multiple times and later died at the hospital. the victim's brother was also shot in the thumb want police describeed as an excution style shooting. >> amazeingly no children were killed or shot because the playground was open with children in the pool and a full basketball game in progress. >> reporter: playground was shut down as police combed the seen for evidence. scowering through surveillance video from dozens of cameras surroundingsurrounding the playground. leroy is a rec center instructor who works hard to create a safe environment for community children.

>> i'm extremely happy there were no children involved. unfortunately life was lost. i'm glad none of our children got hurt. we going to do everything we possibly can to secure the environment so it don't happen. >> reporter: well, we have learned just in the last hour that the white nissan suv that was used in the get away here from this shooting has been recover in the 2600 block of shields street as well as multiple guns that were found inside that vehicle as well. police are still looking for two suspects who were masked at the time of the shooting. we're live here in overbrook tonight, natasha brown cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> natasha, thank you. in other news tonight a man is in critical condition after he was shot by a philadelphia police officer. the shooting happened at eighth and fairmount around 7:00 o'clock tonight. a police department spokesperson says a fully uniformed officer observed a man with a handgun in his waistband. detectives say the armed man was shot once after refuseing commands from the officer. the man was taken to hahnemann hospital with a bullet wound to the chest. detectives investigating the

murder of a recent drexel university graduate say she likely knew her attacker. police say there was no sign of forced entry at 27-year-old jasmine wright's apartment on south 50th street. autopsy results are pending but police say it appears she was beaten and possibly strangled. no arrests have been made in the case. last month wright garaged from drexel school of public health. new details are emerging about the gunman who shot and killed four marines and injured three other people at military facilities in chattanooga tennessee. the fbi has now launched a terror investigation. eyewitness used a cell phone to record the gun battle between police and muhammed youseff abdulazeez at the scene where he murdered four marines and shot three others. abdulazeez died in the shootout. fbi says he carried two rifles and a handgun when he launched that attack from his car at this military recruiting office. >> he was not wearing body armor. he was wearing a what we considered a load bearing vest

meaning that it was a vest that he was able to carry additional magazines of ammunition. >> reporter: investigators sent his computers to the fbi lab in virginia. they analyze them to see whether he had contact with any terror groups. >> at this time we have no indication that he was inspired by or directed by anyone other than himself. >> but the investigation may lead elsewhere. officials say abdullah seize traveled to jordan last year and spent seven months overseas. they want to know who he met with and if any of his contacts attended to radicalize him they discovered two blog posts a tribute to do abdulazeez. the author said quote this life is short and bitter and quote the opportunity to submit to allah may pass you by. it was written just three days before the shootings. the marines remains were taken to air force base where they will be prepared for final honors. a steady stream of people visited a memorial for the victims on friday.

cbs news has learned abdulazeez had at least one encounter with local police in mid april. he was pulled over for driving unthe influence. for the second time in a week a delaware county man is behind bars for trying to lure a young girl in darby borough. police say 6584 old isaac dug ba allegedly asked a 10-year-old girl get his van in his van last night. he was arrested for trying to lure a 13-year-old girl in that same neighbor. he's being held on 250,000 cash bail tonight. there are demands fors have tis to into tonight following the violent arrest of a drug suspect caught on tape in germantown. grandma! >> video recorded in april shows philadelphia police officers beating tyreke carol following a drug bust. this violent arrest garnered national attention when the video went viral last week. family members want carol released and the officers involved punish but police officials say carol violently resisted arrest including biting

two officers. >> it's excessive for multiple police officers to beat and kick and threaten and curse somebody. >> the moment these officers stopped this individual he began biting the officers. >> police officials say their investigation will reveal details that were not captured in that two minute video. tonight a warning from police about a pickpocket ring that's targeting shoppers and diners in montgomery and chester counties. upper merion police say they've investigateed 20 pickpocket incidents since january. police believe the people in these pictures are responsible and may be part of a national pickpocket ring. police say the thieves work in pairs and targets purchases on the backs of chairs in restaurants and police advise you to never leave your bag attended. >> it was packed house as joel olstein brought his universal message to philadelphia. his night of hope tour has been packing venues across the country and tonight "eyewitness news" reporter diana rocco

friday pretty close to the 90's. this is an extended heat wave. we're actually well below average as far as 90 plus degree days only 10 so far this year. but add at least another five to that number by the middle of neck week. the good news tonight is still beautiful an lot of people taking advantage of that fact. let's take you out to the ocean city boardwalk all lit up as if were the middle of the evening outside. after 11:00 o'clock at night but the boardwalk is still pack. the ferris wheel is still spinning. stores are still open. a friday night down the shore doesn't get much better than this and it's probably a little bit cool out on the boardwalk this evening with temperatures in the low 70s root now a lot of people are wearing sweatshirts and enjoying a nice breeze off the water. we're watching a complex of showers and thunderstorms this one is off to our north and most of this will stay off to our north. it bears watching as we head into tomorrow morning we could pick up a stray shower or thunderstorm in a couple of spots. further to the south this complexion has been creating severe weather over portions of

indiana all day long. that should miss us to the south but bears watching as we head into the morning hours tune in tomorrow justin drabick will be here checking the chance for showers in the morning. could it get into our far if a north and suburbs. showery start to the morning with clouds and a little bit of rain. it does lear clear out quickly by midday sunshine clouds, sun warm and humid and 6:00 p.m. a few spotty showers or thunderstorms pop up. sunday showers are even more few and far between. 3:00 p.m. just a stray one here or there. but sunday is when the heat and humidity really starts to ramp up. right now 75 at the airport. 73 degrees in trenton and 74 in atlantic city. but here's the core of the heat right now 88 in st. louis but it feels like 99 that's how bad the humidity is. feels like 88 right now in nash nashville and all of that heat will be billowing in from the south and west over the weekend. so tomorrow watch for those thunderstorms. could be any time spotty in the afternoon and then on sunday, it feel like 100 degrees i mentioned that heat advisory

earlier from noon to 6:00 hottest par of the day on sunday. monday still hot and humid. with a chance for thunderstorm. here's a look at our comfort index over the next few days how hot will it feel? steamy tomorrow. sunday is the worse that's when we get up into the unsir rabble change with dew points approaching 80 in few spots. monday oppressive and tuesday not much better at all. so feature feels like temperatures tomorrow afternoon 98 is what it will feel like at 4:00 p.m. sunday is even worse. it will feel like around 100 degrees at the height of the another afternoon. overnight tonight talking about going down to 70. warmer than recent nights a couple of showers late or toward the early morning hours. saturday hot and humid with a shower or storm with 99. same story down the shore 83 degrees with a possible thunderstorm late. there's your 5-day heat wave. the worst of is sunday, monday doesn't look like a picnic either. back to the 80s by thursday but we're still close to 90. there's a chance that heat wave could last a little bit longer into next week.
