increasing sunshine by the afternoon, warms up to 84 by lunch time, upper 80s by 90 by mid afternoon. we will show you the seven day forecast in a few minute. back to you. >> thanks, do have new video from overnight of massive brush fire in california. fire officials saying that crews there are making progress cbs news correspondent chris martinez records, yesterday the fire came across los angeles freeway damaging 20 vehicles. >> fast moving wild fire sent flames and billowing black smoke high into the air as it jumped on to the freeway just before friday afternoon's rush hour. it destroyed at least 20 vehicles, as it swept across interstate 15, the main highway, between southern california and las vegas about 55 miles northeast of los angeles. frightened motorists abandoned dozens every vehicles, ran from the scene as heat, smoke from the fire filled the roadway. >> everyone got out of their vehicle and just moved upward away from the fire. >> was your heart race ago bit? tell me about that.

just before 2:00 a.m. police received call from man saying he was shot in the chest, and when they arrived they found an adult man with gunshot wounds to his chest and his neck. he was taken to the hospital. >> philadelphia police are investigating a shooting at adult book store overnight. this happened just before 4:00 this morning, a man in his early 20's, attempt topped rob that store, on the 100 block of south 13th street. he then shot one of the employees in the back. that victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition. the robber didn't make off with any money and police are searching for him. >> well, man remains in critical condition this morning after he was shot by a philadelphia police officer. that shooting happened at eighth and fairmount around 7:00 last night. a police department spokesperson says a fully uniformed officer observed a man with a handgun in his waistband. detectives say that armed man was shot once after refuse demands from the officer. the man was transport today hahnemann hospital with a bullet wound to the chest. >> detective investigating the murder of a recent drexel university graduate say she likely new her attacker.

police say there were no signs of forced entry at the 27 year old's home on south 50th street. autopsy result are pending but police say it, a percent she was beaten and possibly strangled. no arrests have been made in this case, but police say they are making some progress. last month, jasmin write graduated from drexel school of public health. >> well, new details emerging about the gunman who shot and killed four marines at military facilities in chattanooga, tennessee. hen a daniels reports, the fbi has launched terror investigation. >> an eyewitness used cell phone to record the gun battle between police and muhammad at the scene where he murdered four marines and shot three other. he died in the shoot-out. the fbi said he carried two rifles and handgun when he launched the attack from his car at this military recruiting office. >> was not wearing body armor. he was wearing what we consider load bearing vest,

meaning it was a vest that he was able to carry additional magazines of ammunition. >> investigators sent the gunman's computers to the f.b.i. lab in virginia, they'll analyze them to see whether he had any contact with any terror groups. >> at this time we have no indication that he was inspired by or directed by anyone other than himself. >> but the investigation may lead elsewhere. official say abdul traveled to jordan last year, and spent seven months overseas. they want to know who he met with and if any of his contact attempt topped radicalize him. they also discovered two blog posts, a tribute today him. the author said this life is short and bitter, and the opportunity to smith to allah may pass you by, written just three days before the shooting. the marines marines were taken to dover air force base, they'll be prepared for their honors. >> steady stream of people visited the memorial, as the community grieves.

the video recorded in april shows philadelphia police officers beating tyree carol following a drug bust. this violent arrest garnered national attention when the video went viral last week. family members want carol released, and the officers involved punished. police officials say carol violently resisted arrest, including biting two police officers. >> it is excessive. for multiple police offers tears beat and kick and threaten and curse somebody. >> the moment that he is the officers stopped this individual, he began fighting with the offerser. >> police officials say their investigation will reveal details that were not captured in that two minute video. >> well, the nation's oldest living veteran real trailblazer for women serving in the military. she went on whirlwinds tour of the nation's capitol and received some recognition for her service in washington d.c. craig boswell was there.

showers, closer to the stormy was talking about northern lehigh county near slate inning tongue, rough 476 headed through the lehigh tunnel. up into the mountains, look at that dealing with some stronger storms, these are not severe, but certainly, some wind gusts maybe up to around 40 miles per hour, brief downpours running through the region in the northern lehigh valley and poconos. everyone else just seeing pretty much cloudy skies. that will covered index not looking good today. that will dew point temperature, which we're monitoring, tells us how much humidity is in the air right now at 65 degrees. that is pretty hi, but typical for summer. so how does it feel to you? steamy. now, tomorrow, talking about insufferable conditions, as dew points are in the low and mid 70s and because of that, a heat advisory will go into effect tomorrow afternoon. so again, this is for sunday. hot, humid conditions, philadelphia, surrounding suburbs, with the heat indexes up around 100 degrees for sunday afternoon. how about rain chances? today, we give it 40% chance, again, key word here is scattered. so i don't think you need to cancel your plans.

"eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhry with the latest on the investigation syma, good morning. >> good morning, nicole. police are investigating an execution style shoot that took place next to a playground, filled with children. one man is dead. another man injured. luckily, no child was hurt. but parent say they were shaken up. >> we are working out our normal work out we do. next thing we hear gunshot pop, pop pop. next thing we are tunnel

around, we have our kids out here playing we are frantic rush over, make sure the kids are all right. >> woe just started taking cover. >> parent and neighbors are stunned to learn, a fatal shooting took place just feet from a busy playground, in overbrook, friday evening. it happened around 6:45, on the 1900 block of north 60th street. with the pleasant weather there were at least 40 people at the playground, when police say, a 42 year old man was shot multiple times including once in the head. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. the victim's brother was shot in the hand, and taken to the hospital, as well. the playground was shut down after police combed the scene for evidence. >> amazingly no children were killed or shot because the playgrounds was open with children in the pool. >> no arrests have been made. but police did recover a get-away car, and multiple

guns. right now, they are looking for two men they say they were mask during the shooting. live at police headquarters, syma chowdhry, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> so scary, same, a thanks for the update. for the second time in a week, delaware county man is behind bars for trying to lure a young girl in darby borough. fifty-six year old isaac allegedly asked ten year old girl to get into his van thursday night. well, he was arrested last week for allegedly trying to lure a 13 year old girl in that same neighborhood. the darby police chief has some harsh words for the judge that let him back out. >> why was he on the street? welshing we can't tell you why he was on the street, because the judge just let him out. but suppose she asks me why sent my child here any more? because he let him out. frustrate in the no, angry is a better word for what i am. he needs to do his job or get out of the job, one or the two. >> being held in delaware

county jail on $250,000 cash bail. >> well, take a look at these surveillance pictures, police looking for a man who robbed td bank on the 300 block of market street yesterday morning. authority say the man hand add tell area threatening note, and ran away with cash. this same suspect is wanted for another robbery at td bank on south 11 street thursday night. police say that suspect is considered armed and dangerous. >> a warning this morning from police about pick pocket ring that's targeting shoppers and diner in montgomery and chester counties. upper merion police say they've investigated 20 pick pocket incident just since january. police believe the people in these pictures are responsible and may be part of a national ring. police say the thieves work in pairs, often target purses on backs of chairs, in restaurants. so police are advising to never leave your bag unattended. >> a pop up beer guard never point breeze that reopened after being shutdown by l & i has now been shutdown again. l & i says owner john long acre did not obtain a license

from the city to operate that beer garden on the 1600 block every point breeze avenue. but long acre tells "eyewitness news" he doesn't need approval from the city because his state issued liquor license is being used to operate it. appeals judge will set thal dispute. >> the city now working to fill a dangerous sinkhole on the 3400 block of keim street in kensington. it is now blocked off. resident complains to "eyewitness news" after woman fell into that hole and then contacted the city. resident say the hole had been there for about a month and a half and was getting bigger and bigger, the city now investigating the cause of that sinkhole. >> well, for the first time in more than 40 years tuition at penn state university will not increase for in state undergraduates in the upcoming school year. the move keeps the annual tuition rate at about $16,570. now, non-pennsylvania resident tuition will rise about 2.8% on average. >> it is 6:37 right now. cbs pharmacy is investigating

beach day corks run into shower or storm late in the day. weather headlines some sunshine today it will be hot, humid we talk about some storm chances and seeing those right now up in in the poconos, northwest berks county, little cluster moving through, not severe, bridges gust to go 35 to 40 miles per hour, more showers storms, out to the west over central pennsylvania, some of this may break up, but we could run into shower, even thunderstorm here in philadelphia later this morning things should quiet down, late scattered shower or storm. how we feel over the next few days again steamy conditions today with the increased humidity, tomorrow will be the worse. we call it insufferable, very high dew points, high humidity it, will feel like over 100 and just stays down right hot humid over the next several days. some tomorrow heat advisory will go in effect at noontime on sunday for philadelphia and surrounding suburbs.
