♪ >> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". right now at 6:00 o'clock we are heating up outside. a live look now over center city philadelphia, where it felt like 95 degrees this afternoon. it certainly did. good evening, i'm natasha brown. thanks for joining us. it's been very hot today but temperatures will dangerously be hot tomorrow. let's get right over to meteorologist justin drabick in the cbs3 weather center for a first look at our forecast. >> natasha, we're cranking up the heat but it's typical here we are mid late july on average this is our warmest time of year today. was actually seasonal. go figure. 88 degrees was the actual air temperature. normal high 87. record high 100 in 2012. key was the humidity making it feel like the mid 90s. had humidity level continues to rise tonight. and for your sunday. here are the temperatures right now. still in the upper 80s over most

of the locations. 87 in allentown and reading. 88 at the airport in philadelphia at the shore nice breeze coming in off the water ocean water at 75. so we're looking at 70s to low 80s across coastal new jersey and delaware. but when you factor in the humidity, this is what it feels like right now. low even some mid 90s still this hour and these numbers will climb tomorrow and because of that excessive heat warning will go in effect at noon sunday until 8:00 o'clock monday so prolonged period of heat and humidity for philadelphia and surrounding suburbs as heat index values get over 100 degrees tomorrow afternoon and elsewhere we will be under a heat advisory that kicks off at noon on sunday heat indices around 100 degrees. in that heat warning watch out temperatures mid 90s heat index values over 100 drinks lots of water and avoid that strenuous activity. we'll show you how long the heat lasts in the full forecast in a few minutes. natasha. >> justin thanks so much. breaking news now in the murder of a drexel graduate who was found dead inside her west philadelphia apartment. let's get right out to "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson live at police headquarters with new

information in this case. steve? >> reporter: natasha good evening. philadelphia police sources confirming that new information tonight which is this. philadelphia police say they have a person of interest now in custody in relation to the murder of 27-year-old jasmine wright. important for our viewers to clarify when physical police say they have a person of interest, they mean that. a person of interest with relevant information to the case. this person has not yet been identified. this person has not been named a suspect. as of yet. but again a person of interest now in custody. want to go back and talk about some of the details in this case. show i was picture of 27-year-old jasmine wright. now on the screen this is one that had both neighbors and police together scratching their heads by all accounts wright was a bright person with a bright future who mostly kept to herself. this was a recent graduate from drexel university with a master's in environmental and occupational health. thursday her body was discovered

beaten and strangled in the bedroom of her second floor apartment at the corner of 50th and locust with no sign of forced entry. we want the to know how something like this could happen happen. so we've been asking neighbors since thursday about their community all who said this was nice person living in a nice place. here's one neighbor who knew her personally. >> scared and i'm -- i feel so sad, very sad because she always be good neighbor for me. >> reporter: again homicide detectives and sources not confirming whether or not they are close to an arrest. they do say once again a person of interest now in custody. now in questioning in relation to this case. this is one we will be on tonight if we hear more, we'll let you know right here. for now live at police headquarters, i'm steve patterson cbs3 "eyewitness news" news". >> all right, steve, thank you

so much. we do appreciate the update in this case. also now turning to wildfires that have scorched more than 3,000 acres in drought stricken california are still burning out of control even at this hour. the fast-moving flames jumped a highway caught drivers by surprise and forced them to run for their lives. cbs news correspondent danielle nottingham has more. >> reporter: the wildfire raced across a mountainous area 55 miles northeast of los angeles friday. drivers panicked as the flames jumped a busy interstate from los angeles to las vegas catching drivers by surprise. >> it started to go really quickly up the mountain. >> reporter: fire officials say 40-mile an hour winds made the fire fight difficult. >> that wind, boy that was a tough drop. >> reporter: nearly six square miles mile blaze destroyed everything in its path including 60 vehicles and three homes in the community of baldy mesa and it's still racing toward another 700 homes. nearly 2800 people remain

evacuateed. another wildfire is also burning out of control in the san gabriel mountains. overnight hundreds of campers include something girl scouts were forced to leave the community of wright wood. the fire has destroyed 125 acres 125 acres. so far it's about 10% contained. rain in the forecast could help firefighters gain control of both fires. but forest officials say all it takes is a lightning strike on the right tree and the possibility increases for more fires. danielle nottingham for cbs3 "eyewitness news". four people on a septa paratransit bus were injured when it collided with a car and flipped over in philadelphia's overbrook neighborhood. the crash happened at 60th and lansdowne about 7:00 o'clock this morning. septa says the bus driver and three passengers suffered minor injuries. eyewitnesses helped them out of the vehicle. >> i jumped into the vehicle and ran straight to the front of the

vehicle to remove the driver. try and help the people get out there so everything was okay. make sure they was okay. it was stuff leaking from the truck, it was just oil. a lot of people was nervous thinking it was gas. >> tow truck flipped the bus back on to its wheels and the intersection was reopen. the cause of this crash is still under investigation. also now a navy petty officer wounded in the shooting rampage in chattanooga tennessee has died from his injuries. family members identified the officer as randall smith. he's now the fifth victim of thursday' as tack. muhammed youseff abdulazeez opened fire at two military relateed locations. he shot seven people including four marines who died that day. the gunman was shot and killed by police. a marine recruiter shot in the leg and a police officer shot in the ankle are still recovering. ♪ republican presidential candidate donald trump facing backlash today over comments he

made about arizona senator john mccain. trump says he's not sure mccain who spent five years as a prisoner of war in vietnam is actually a war hero. trump made those comments this morning at family leadership summit in iowa. >> a war hero. >> he's war hero -- >> five and a half years. >> he's a war hero because he was captured. i like people that weren't captured. i hate to tell you. >> do you believe that? >> he's a war hero because he was captured. >> trump later clarified saying people who serve our country captured or otherwise are heroes heroes. he did not apologize however and added that he thinks mccain hasn't done enough for veterans during his time in office. trump's republican arrivals immediately criticizeed his comments. presidential candidate and former texas governor rick perry tweeted senator mccain is an american hero and all pow's deserve our nation's highest debt of gratitude. donald trump' be comments are disgraceful.

>> here is a scene out of the wild captured on eyewitness cam in wildwood. kristen marks from lansdale was vacationing with her family when she spotted this coyote run flewing through the street at stanton road pan civic avenue in wildwood crest on thursday morning. marks said she talked to police and was told the coyote lives in the marshes at the south end of the island. coyotes are native to that area i guess you he want add little fresh air. >> yes. >> a little change of scenery. >> just hanging out. >> good place to be tomorrow down the shore and hang out. >> absolute. hotter and hotter. >> at least till sunday lazy see day, hang out. >> sounds good. >> by the pool or hit the ocean.

>> pool at your house. >> all right. bring the shovel because i don't have one. >> me either. >> we'll find a pool. >> let's take you to the shore where it's jam pack right now. ocean city live look at the boardwalk people hanging out. nice breeze there off the water right now. temperatures 70s to around 80 degrees beautiful finish to our saturday here in ocean city right now. but we're cranking up the heat it looks like we'll be starting heat wave tomorrow. we didn't make it to 90 today. 88 officially at philadelphia international airport but we will reach 90s tomorrow for sure sure. 87 our average high for this time of year. we'll be well into the mid 90s tomorrow that's not even factoring in the humidity but notice our temperature line here in yellow it stays above average the next several days. so get used to it it had will be hot and humid. typical for the middle and latter half of july here in the delaware valley. current temperatures mid and upper 80s little bit cooler near the shore points. lower 80s and wildwood and atlantic city airport but the heat continues to build richmond 90 degrees this hour. 87 in pittsburgh. so that warm humid air continues

to filter in over the next 12 to 24 hours. now this is key right here. the dew point temperature this tells us how much humidity is in the air we're already seeing some 70s break out mid 70s that's a tropical air mass. that's when it feels oppressive you want to stay indoors run that air-conditioning and that's going to be the trend really over the next few days. how it will feel the next four days tomorrow pretty much unsuffer rabble when you factor the high humidity with the heat. still feels oppressive on monday gets a little bit better tuesday and wednesday. don't get me wrong still hot though. and very humid. but at least we'll get some relief on the way i think later monday into tuesday. not much happening on storm scan3 right now. over the delaware valley mainly clear skies. but few pop up showers and thunderstorms across northern pennsylvania one of those could get in here during the evening hours. very scattered so not everyone sees it. maybe want to have that rain -- umbrella around this evening if you are heading out just to be safe. here are your rain chances tomorrow really a 20% chance have to throw it in there because it's so hot and humid you can get that pop up storm any time.

monday increase it to about 30% as cold front moves through. and tuesday kind of 20% chance again typical hot afternoon showers and storms and wednesday pretty much zero as we really dry things out. here you go through the evening, scattered shower or storm is possible things quiet down through the overnight. tomorrow morning we start off with some sunshine into the afternoon. still mostly sunny. could be a stray shower or storm in some spots. again monday here's that front that comes through. this model keeping it dry but i still think there's a chance for shower or storm. we factor in the humidity it feels like over 100 degrees tomorrow in many locations. a little bit better monday. but still feeling like well into the 90s. for tonight muggy a shower or storm possible. 75. tomorrow 95 factor in the humidity it feels more like 100 maybe even 105 degrees at the shore. 87 degrees ocean water nice but here's the extended forecast just stays hot guys looking at a string of 90s through the middle of next week and by the end of the week upper 80s which is average for this time of year. >> all right. >> summer in full swing. >> find a pool somewhere.
