. from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". get ready for another day of temperatures that feel like they're in the triple digits. we have a check on your forecast and let you know what you need to know to stay cool. also, new overnight a father witnesses his son's murder north philadelphia. the clues police have to help them track down that gunman. >> and, more than five decades of tension and animosity have come to the ends, restoring full diplomatic relations today. more on the new era between the countries coming up. >> good morning today is monday july 20th, 2015. another dangerously hot day today. we check in with katie. another triple digit feeling day? >> for the most part you what want to think about here guys the fact it feels so

much hotter than the thermometer will read. but it is reading pretty hi, let's be honest, nearly 10 degrees above seasonal average whether it comes to the actual air temperature that will be here today. it will feel obvious a lot hotter than that, it is summer, it is what happens right? we haven't had too much experience with that, however specially this month but really for the entire season yet. let's start things off by getting you outside things. "skycam 3", man, it is mild outside. it is still feeling very, very warm even despite the fact the sun's not even up yet here in center city overlooking the ben franklin bridge, from our campbell's field camera. when we go next to storm scan3, see hint of moisture out, there not really verifying as far as any precipitation goes but we are going to see little hint of precipitation here today. see some of the moisture as it continues to sort of fizzle over the allegheny's there but some that far will survive. weakening cold front headed our way. meantime though it is another hot day for us. we have excessive heat warning posted in the red heat advisories pretty much

everywhere else. so everyone's got it deal with there is and when you are starting off already in the 80s, all you can do is go up from here, once that sun comes up. so it will be a hot and very, very steamy day with some sunshine much like we saw yesterday. some of will you see fire or thunderstorm fire up out there as the frontal boundery crosses through as well. so, it is toasty out there my friend erika. >> katie, thank you as katie just mentioned excessive heat warning remains in effect for our area. drive, woe saw joggers and runners looking more like walkers kind of moving in slow motion there that's actually pretty smart. you may want to take it eats i out there, this afternoon and later on today and if you're inside, run those fans and also run the ac. and the city is actually advising we all avoid being out in this heat for long periods. time. they're also asking that you stay hydrated f you're on medication, watch yourself very closely. nausea muscle cramps, headache, confusion, diarrhea, just few signs of more than necessary heat exposure and in weather like this, keep eye out for the elderly as well as kids and/or pets. before you head out today might want to grab a towel and maybe also a bottle of water. take a listen. >> dripping wet, seriously, it is a lot of work. that is lot of work. you just take a lot of breaks, drink a lot of water. >> dripping wet. we're not sweating quite yet. you can tell it is coming.

breeze out here helps quite a bit. going out today wear light weight clothing, also light colored clothing, and also, again, stay hydrated. the corporation for the aging also opening cooling centers our area, at the central northeast blackwell and west oaklane libraries. they open at 8:00 a.m. and close tonight at 8:30 p.m. erika, back over to you. >> justin, thank you. because of this dangerous heat starting at 8:30 this morning, the philadelphia corporation for aging has a hotline in place for anyone who has any questions. city health department nurses can answer questions about how to take precautions and detect signs of heat stress. the pca heat line is for all ages and that number: (215)765-9040. it will be open until 8:00 tomorrow night. >> new this morning, a father is an eyewitness to his son's murder north philadelphia. now, police hope that surveillance video will help them track down the gunman. that father and son were at laurence and wing hocking street around 11:00 last night when gunman shot the 21 year

olson in the face. police say they think he was the intended target. >> after seeing his son get shot the father then chased the shooter one block east to the intersection of fourth and wing hocking. at that time the shooter turned around and fired at least two shots at the father. >> the son died this morning at temple university hospital. his father was not hurt. police say the gunman was wearing all dark clothing and got into a dark car that was headed south on fourth street. >> also, new this morning police are looking for the shooter who opened fire in the harrow gate neighborhood. two men were shot in the leg just before 12:30 in the 1800 block of east cornwall street. one man is in critical condition. the other in stable condition. investigators tell us that because of the heat, several neighbors were outside at the time of the shooting and currently being questioned. weapon was recovered at the scene. >> it is a big day if you plan on taking the septa regional rail and the philadelphia

during the pope's visit this september. this morning those special one day train passes go on sale on line. now, normal regional rail passes will not work on september 26th and 27th. only 175,000 of those special rail passes will be available for each day so septa says hey buy them early. for more information go to the website cbsphilly.com/papal visit. >> happening today, montgomery county commissioners launch it new text to 911 service. this new texting service allows russ dents with hearing or speaking dis tonight communicate with authority in the case after emergency. text to go 911 gives people a silent alert to police, helping those trapped in a dangerous situation such as a break-in. >> fire officials will officially determine whether a fire that broke out early sunday morning in south philly was arson. right now the fire marshall is calling that fire suspicious, and the search is out for two suspect. the fire started in a home, under construction, south

juniper street. the flames damaged four other homes, and forced more than dozen folks to evacuate. one witness says he saw someone go inside the building just moments before it caught fire. >> i seen him enter the building which caught on fire, i seen another gentleman on the roof. >> was it caught on fire, at the last, from the second floor to the first floor, so we established collapse zones right away. >> if you have any information, you are asked to call police. sources tell cbs-3, a guilty plea may commas early as this week in the deadly center city building collapse of 2013. according to sources close to this case, crane operator sean ben chop may end their plea at hearing set for tomorrow morning. the 43 year old faces multiple counts of third degree murder which carry potential life sentence. six people died when brick wall toppled on to the roof after salvation army thrift store. blood tests show that benchop had marijuana and prescription

>> slutly, another steamy day out there frankly dangerous if you're not smart about it, we can get through this, just be smart about it, you will be just fine. >> don't go jogging at noon. >> exactly. let's get you outside, show you what's going on, not just the heat actually air quality issues we have to discuss here too. here is basically the gist, guys. you have two separate front moving through, one of which is weakening as it travels you can see it moving eats right now, brinking in nothing more than few little speckles on the area map across the central pennsylvania, and some that far is what's actually going to help fire up shower or under this earl storm for the area. then you have got the secondary front sort of see the combination of this back here. so no real interesting organization, but basically what's causing us to keep the heat for the next two days, but also to eventually see some of the humidity get wiped away once the fronts clear out by mid week. meantime, jump ahead to future feels like values at 9:00 a.m. today, already feeling like 9 degrees in some locations then we flirt with triple digit territory here. these are model indications, i

have real good feeling that some are you actually going to feel like it is 100. again, that's the kind of stuff that can be dangerous if you're out in it for very long. limit the outdoor activities to now or once the sun goes down if you can, 87 even by 9:00 p.m. for feels like value. so you get the idea. that's where the air quality issues may come into play. this will be an air quality alert day for folks that maybe have real sensitive respiratory illnesses so we are only at moderate level. but that said, there is still an issue when it comes to that heat and that stagnant humidity making it feel so just i guess for lack of better word discusting outside. please take care. 95 degrees our expected hi, feeling hotter, with shower or thunderstorm, and that will even continue into tonight. but it remains very muggy regardlessment and there will be some of that you probably don't even pick up raindrop out of this, may be wishing for it, keep in the 90s again tomorrow. then yes, it is still hot by wednesday, but far less humid and the sun comes back for full day. so it will get better once we

she is busy at the traffic center getting your report ready for you we'll meet her just a few minutes, right now another dangerously hot day? >> already off to very warm, very muggy start here in the delaware vale, and we will keep that theme going all day today, we do have excessive heat warnings in effect until 8:00 p.m. for basically the city and surrounding vicinity, then heat advisory for pretty much everyone he will. so we get you out there shore definitely not immune, even though do you have that ocean breeze that's still awfully steamy outside, here in atlantic city, atlantic county, you can tell there is a haze that settled in upon the shore points here. quickly checking storm scan3 we've got hint of moisture out there, don't worry about that actually triggering any showers or thunderstorms until little later today. meantime please, be smart about this heat. again, you know, we can get through it you just got to be smart about it, don't do your mid-day run at high noon, that was great pointer kay made. you just want to do any of the outdoor activities early in the day or later in the day if you absolutely must. we get it.
