that now it is cleared. forty-two freeway in the north bound direction you are looking great. also 95, moving in the southbound direction at girard, we saw a lot of activity in this area yesterday throughout the the morning ending with a crash that was getting busy. right now i-95 in the southbound direction, look at that looking beautiful outside. i-95 north bound at betsy ross we have lost two lanes, two lanes down, just give yourself a couple minutes in that area. erika, over to you. a violent night in philadelphia leaves three people dead and three different neighborhoods. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch joins us at one of those scenes in tacony where a shooting left one person dead and another injured. justin, good morning. >> reporter: erika, good morning. three men dead from shootings overnight and late last night. one man taken to surgery for his injuries and youngest victim just 15 years old. lets get you to video from late last night about 10:45 in the fair hill section of the west clear field and north howard. a 20 year-old man was found

shot six times twice in the head and taken to temple university hospital, where he was pronounced dead. police now know that he was with the woman at that corner before, male shooter approached and opened fire, late last night. there were two scenes in north philadelphia that police were investigating, one on the 100 block of colona where a man between 25 years old was found shot dead just after 1:00 o'clock in the morning. nearby a 15 year-old boy we are told was grazed by a bullet in his arm and taken to st. christopher's shot rang out in that area. a car was found there shot several times. these two shootings may be link but no word on the shooters or perhaps a getaway vehicle. in tacony where we are right now just after 1:00 o'clock in the morning a 21 year-old man was found shot to death at unruh avenue and marsden street. police arrived to the scene and have remain here ever since investigating and they

set the scene. take a listen. >> shortly after 1:00 o'clock in the morning police came out here and we found one male that was shot on the highway deceased, 21 years old shot in the head, and shot in the neck. there was also another male that was the shot, he was taken to aria torresdale hospital and he is in surgery. >> reporter: that victim was taken to the hospital, we are told, by police. he is 28 years old. he has a gunshot wound to his back we're told and he was taken to surgery. looking out live at this scene here still going on here unruf and marsden this extend all the way to torresdale avenue. three men in hoodies seeing fleeing this scene. they are considered persons of interests at the this point. in all erika and nicole, five people were shot between late last night and overnight and three of them have passed away as a result of their injuries. for now we are life from

tacony i'm justin finch for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". meanwhile a prison guard is in stable condition after being stabbed by an inmate. that prompted a lock down yesterday at curran-fromhold correctional facility in northeast philadelphia. that guard is in stable condition at aria torresdale hospital. authorities have not yet said what led to that stabbing, this is the same prison that pope francis will visit during his stay in philadelphia. a philadelphia police officer shot in the line of duty is out of the hospital. police say the 17 year veteran was shot by a suspect he was attempting to arrest this happened yesterday morning in the north brook apartment complex on woodhaven road. police returned fire and killed that suspect devon guisherd. >> the officer was behind him he spun, fired around, striking the the officer in the stomach with a 40 caliber semiautomatic weapon. the the officer return fire striking the suspect. >> special swat team body arm or saved that officer's life,

he suffered a bruce near his stomach. this by the way is a second time that officer has been shot in the line of duty. the cbs-3 i team uncovered more on the suspect's background, devon guisherd was arrested in 2006 hain 2012 on criminal charges. he was wanted in the killing of the pregnant woman megan doto last september. guisherd was considered a fugitive for justice and for ten months authorities were on the hunt for him when that ended yesterday morning. in word why they could not track him down previously. almost two weeks after her arrest, jailed in take form intake forms show conflicting information about sandra bland's state of mine. while the 28 year-old old's death has been ruled a suicide federal and local authorities are investigating the case as a homicide. cbs news correspondent hanna daniels has the the latest. >> reporter: sandra bland's handwritten jailed in take form there are check marks in the yes category next to the questions asking have you you

during a routine traffic stop on july 10th after seeing dash cam video of the incident her family questions why she was arrested in the first place. hanna daniels for cbs news. fire fighters planned to let this wear house fire in middlesex county burn itself out before they determine how it started. that fire is still burning right now. the flames in north brunswick flared up overnight. the wear house was filled with plastics, cars, household goods which only fueled the fire. it sent plumes of black smoke in the air visible from space. one fire fighter suffered a hand injury. hundreds of evacuated residents are still waiting to go home. happening today pennsylvania governor tom wolf will name a new chief of staff a shake up in his office. wolf's chief of staff katie mcginty resigned yesterday. democratic sources say mcginty plans to run for a seat in the u.s. senate last year. mcginn would i challenge joe sestak for the democratic nomination with the, winner

ikea issues a safety warning for 27 million dressers and chests but for one local family the warning is too little too late. twenty-three year-old curran was kill last year when a dresser from ikea tipped over on top of him. retailer is warning other customers about that same dresser and offering a free kit to help anchor the furniture to the wall. an attorney for the family says that safety washings are long past due. >> it is not a surprise. i actually think it is overdue. danger of furniture tip overs has been well men to further furniture manufacturers and for ikea for many years. >> ikea, which has a u.s. headquarters in conshohocken released a a statement which reads in part at ikea we are committed to helping raise awareness of the serious home safety issue and to continue to provide customers with the the tools, and knowledge they need to prevent these

checks and they depend on that and i would think that they would tell me there would be problems. >> reporter: if convicted, he could get six months in prison and face a fine. another lawsuit begins bill cosby will now move forward despite his attempt to will challenge that motion. the california supreme court rejected cosby's petition seeking review of the case brought forward by a woman who claims he sexually assaulted her in 1974. seventy-eight year-old comedian cited procedural irregularities. the attorney says she believes she has the right to take a deposition from cosby. cosby's lawyer is also under fire for his role on temple university's board of trustees. head of the school's faculty union wants patrick o'connor to resign saying he knew about cosby's admission about drugs and woman a decade ago. university is supporting o'connor cosby resigned from the board of trustees last

the accused south carolina church shooter faces federal hate crime charges. the attorney general said dylann roof targeted his victims because of their race and religion. nine people were killed. we now have more for you. >> reporter: a federal grand jury's indictment charges this mandilion roof with 33 crimes, including, federal hate crimes and weapons charges. >> we think that this is exactly the type of case that the federal hate crimes statutes were in fact conceived of to cover. racially motivated violence such as this is the original domestic terrorism.

>> reporter: investigators say the 21 year-old targeted the charleston church and its parishioners. >> mother's manual was his destination specifically because it was a historically african-american church of significance to the people of charleston of south carolina and the nation. on that summer evening dylann roof found his target. african americans engaged in worship. >> reporter: after nearly an hour attending a bible study police say roof admitted to opening fire, killing nine people. >> parishioners had bibles. dylann roof had his 45 caliber glock pistol and eight magazines loaded with hallow point bullets. >> reporter: roofies facing federal, state charges, south carolina does not have a hate crime law. >> i don't mind having a hate crime law you but please don't suggest people in south carolina would not render justice here, because we will. >> reporter: i'm mary man leny reporting. roof's state trial begins next year f convicted he could face life in prison or death. as of right now the the decision has in the been made

by prosecutors to seek the death penalty. roof's attorney did not respond to requests for a comment, nicole. a main line woman is accused of selling heroin out of her home. this is the suspect 61 year-old lynn, of wayne. police say and inn cover investigation led them to her and that detectives went to her home, four different locations. they recovered 80 bags of heroin and a pistol from her home. she's now behind bars at the chester county jail. and an intruder breaks in the home and hides under a bed but that is not the mess creepy part. jason hubbard entered a new jersey house where home owner took out the garbage. police say he hid under her bed for up to five days. the home owner says the suspect dated her daughter, years ago she believes he was homeless and decided to set up camp in her house. but that is really creepy, to think that someone has been in your home for five days. >> makes you want to look under your bed when you get home.
