>> ♪ >> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news"." >> right now at 6:30, police are out in full force right now looking for the man accused of stabbing his own wife and her one-year-old daughter. good evening everyone, i'm natasha brown. thanks so much for joining us. a neighbor rushed to help when she heard the screams. that woman spoke with "eyewitness news" tonight.

our own steve patterson has her story and is live at einstein medical center where one of the victims is currently fighting for her life. steve. >> reporter: natasha, this gives you the sense of a man who would stab a woman and her defenseless one-year-old daughter. we wanted to give you the story of the woman who rushed to the home as the crime was being committed. we want to warn you that the details we're about to go over are graphic but it's important to hear this. please use precaution if you're listening to this. in the meantime police are trying to track down the man who did this. sunday morning quiet on dallas street. one home in the glow of muted cartoons now a crime scene holds a story of horror . >> definitely would have been dead. >> reporter: we asked the eyewitness to recall the worst thing she's ever seen. at the time, the memory was just a few hours old. >> it's horrible.

it's horrible. i don't know if y'all went in there or not but it's blood everywhere and she was all cut up and then when she told me go check the baby that just like -- a whole different level. >> reporter: police say about 12:30 sunday morning a domestic dispute broke out at this home in the 1900 block of dallas street. inside, during the if i recollect a 41-year-old man stabbed his 37-year-old partner multiple times all over her body and her one-year-old daughter once in the chest. bowlds says she called police when she heard the fight and ran to the home when it sounded dire. >> i grabbed some paper you to wells and tried to stop all the bleeding from where it was coming but as i was attending to her show told me don't worry about her, go check on her baby. >> reporter: she says the man then darted out of the home to escape. she walked upstairs to find the child. >> she turned around. you see the little hole in her stomach and it was just to the point that -- every time she

would cough or cry or something the blood would keep gushing and gushing out. >> reporter: both victims, mother and daughter rushed to the hospital. and police tell us the daughter is in the hospital in critical condition at saint christopher's. her mother is here at einstein medical center also in critical condition. we want to wait until we have an official release from police before we release their names. in the meantime, neighbors say the man who escaped did so in a deep burgundy nissan altima. of course, if you know anything about this case you're asked to call police immediately. reporting live in olney, i'm steve patterson, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> this is just the most disturbing case. thank you so much, steve. now we're going to take a little check of weather at the moment. it looks like some heat is settling into the area. at least for now. let's see how long it's going to stick around. meteorologist justin drabick is lie on the cbs3 sky desk. he's going to tell us how hot it's going to get. justin. >> final week of july and yes it will feel like july really as we head over the next

couple days especially in the middle of the work week. at least we finish off the weekend on the dry side. stays kind of that transition today. starting to pump up the humidity a little bit but it's not unbearable yet. officially we did reach 89 degrees at the airport this afternoon. that is bust average of 87. now, the record high this time of year is 101 set back in 18 noon1892. here we are right now 86 at the airport. nice little breeze up here on the sky deck. it feels okay. low 80's down towards the shore points, upper 70's in the poconos. dewpoint temperature, though this is key, yesterday these numbers are in the low 50's. that's why it was so dry, so comfortable. now we're talking mid 60's. that's when it feels humid. once they start hitting 70 degrees that's when you want to be inside. that's what we have to look forward as we head into tuesday and wednesday. temperatures what they feel like when you factor in the humidity they feel like upper 80's to low 90's right now. we're seeing clouds rolling through.

there's a line of showers and storms that could impact the poconos, elsewhere maybe scattered storm overnight t a better chance of a scattered storm 88 degrees for the high for philadelphia. at the shore low 80's and similar conditions up in the poconos. we are looking at another heat wave with mid 90's returning to the seven-day forecast. i'll show that you coming up in the full forecast in a few minutes. natasha, send it back to you. >> justin we'll see you inside. police are investigating after more than a dozen vehicles had tires slashed in the queen village section of philadelphia overnight. it happened in the 800 block of swanson street and the 100 block of queen street. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers is live at the scene with the very latest for us. matt. >> reporter: natasha, we are right at the intersection of queen and swanson streets and many of the people who live on that block just behind me woke up this morning and had to change whatever plans they had this sunday because of those slashed tires. some time saturday evening into sunday morning the vehicles were vandalized,

cars trucks suv's all parked on the street with one or more tires slashed, some of them still with police reports on their windshields. 18 different slashes were recorded by police in this two or three block area alone. the crime is probably random. the victims in this case connected only by the fact they live in the same area. it would appear to be a taste of pointless vandalism and now people in the neighborhood will need to spend their money on expensive car problems not of their own making. tony carlo lives here and didn't get vandalized. his car got hit in center city and he gave it up. >> this is the first time something like this happened in this neighborhood. i'm upset about it. my daughter was here overnight and her car wasn't touched t i feel badly for these people. >> reporter: now, police are investigating this crime and while they can notoriously be difficult to solve because of the randomness of their nature they do have a place to start in this case. many of these homes behind me do have surveillance cameras

outside and so at least in this case police appear to have a place to start their investigation. we are live in queen village matt rivers, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> thank you so much, matt. the coast guard meantime says a boat found off the coast of florida belongs to two 14-year-olds missing since friday. the 19-foot boat was discovered cap sides about 67 miles off the coast of pons day leone. perry cohen and austin stefanou were last seen friday buying fuel. joe namath cohen's neighbor is now offering a $100,000 reward for any information. >> i'm not doing anything to mill -- that mills millions of people don't do every day. it's love, compassion, respect for one another. it just so happens that these two youngsters i've known and i know the families and can empathize somewhat with the pain they're going through. >> officials say they are now

recalculating the search efforts around the location of the boat. and funeral services will be held tomorrow for two women killed in a movie theater shooting rampage in louisiana. today the lafayette community came together to remember the victims during very emotional services. cbs news correspondent kenneth craig has more. >> ♪ >> reporter: the victims of the graham theater shooting were remembered during a memorial mass at our lady of fatima catholic church in lafayette. parishioners said a special prayer for the families of 33-year-old jillian johnson and 21-year-old mayci breaux their funerals are on monday. >> may our merciful lord grant them eternal repose. >> reporter: at this growing memorial outside of the store owned by jillian johnson the community has been leaving flowers art and handwritten notes. lauren blanchard knew johnson from the arts community and shopping at her store. >> it's really heartbreaking and hard to -- hard to

verbalize. >> reporter: police still don't know why 59-year-old john houser opened fire inside the movie theater. they say he suffered from decades of mental illness. in 2008, his family filed a protective order accusing him of domestic violence. but the order was later lifted at the family's request. that same year he was treated for mental illness in alabama. kenneth craig for cbs3 "eyewitness news"." >> president obama is continuing his tour of africa today. the commander-in-chief touchdown in ethiopia earlier this afternoon. this morning he delivered a speech to the kenyan people and the president talked about striking a balance between tradition and progress. >> every country and every culture has tradition that are unique. and help make that country what it is. but just because something is a part of your past doesn't make it right. >> the president focused on equal rights for women and the

lgbt community on the african continent. some countries there oppress women and outlaw homo sexuality. demolition of the commerce building is currently under way in camden on the corner of broadway and federal streets and commerce building which opened in 1965 is expected to make way for a parking lot. the demolition is expected to take about two weeks and will result in the closure of federal street between fifth street and broadway and broadway between federal and mlk boulevard. you'll want to make note of that if you're going to be in that area. stay still ahead on "eyewitness news" a new jersey man accused of pulling a samurai sword in traffic. find out where this happened, also what police say led to the incident. plus, a dozen people are injured in an amusement park accident. we've got the latest on those victims and their conditions. justin. >> all right, the humidity is on the rise and so are the temperatures. i'll let you know what to expect for the upcoming work week in the eyewitness weather forecast. >> straight ahead in sports the phillies are on a roll. today they finished the sweep of the cubs and lesley van

>> a wildfire in central california is threatening homes and campgrounds tonight. the willow fire started yesterday. it quickly engulfed more than 200 acres near the community of bass lake. nearly 450 homes have already been evacuated and hundreds of

firefighters are currently battling the flames and more crews are on the way to help. a new jersey man is behind bars in new york today accused of pulling a samurai sword on another driver during a road rage incident. police say 32-year-old richardson rosius of eatontown was in the holland tunnel yesterday when he got out of his car drew the sword and pointed it at a couple right next to him. police say he eventually sheathed the weapon and drove back toward jersey where officers were waiting for him. he was arrested without incident. a dozen people are now injured after an amusement park ride collapses in kentucky. a terrifying experience for the riders on this swing ride when it just toppled over. it happened on saturday at the beach bend amusement park in bowling greenly all of the injured riders have been treated and released from the hospital. some of the riders were reportedly children. and a pint sized superhero fought his way to the top of the box office for the second

headlines. here's what to expect over the next couple of days. there will be a chance for a shower or thunderstorm, not huge chances but the threat will be there. not a big severe threat, either. so that's good news. humidity increases. if you don't like that you're not going to like the forecast coming up. another heat wave starting for the middle of the week. average high 87. tomorrow we're going to be in the upper 80's close to average due to clouds and showers. today we bring back the 90's tuesday, wednesday thursday. thursday should be our hottest day into the mid 90's. that will make it three in a row so we're dealing with a heat wave. the end of the week slightly cooler friday. don't get me wrong, still going to be hot but at least the humidity drops by the end of the week. upper 80's right now. still 91 in the capitol city of delaware. there is some heat around and that will continue to build. as you can see all that heat down to the central part of the u.s. look at that, this is what it feels like when you factor in the humidity, dallas 104, 105 in little rock. that heat starts to expand north and east over the next 48 hours. when you talk about the

humidity it's going to feel steamy for monday and tuesday. that's not the worst of it. gets worse for wednesday and thursday. those are going object worst days. we'll have that oppressive feel to the air mass. we're tracking a few showers and storms mainly up in the poconos through the evening hours. there's a weak front up there. it will continue to weaken as it sags southward. the next few hours best shot to see wet weather will be in the mountains. overnight couple scattered showers and storms could roll through the delaware valley. cold front will move through our region on monday. monday i think is our best shot to see scattered showers or storms and we do need some rainily we'll take it. humid with temperatures in the 80's. that front is out of here for tuesday, back to full sun, low 90's, it's hot and humid for wednesday, high pressure right on top of us. really blocks any storms from developing for the middle of the week. here's our rain chances. tomorrow we give 840 percent chance. zero for tuesday and wednesday we're back up to 40 on thursday. as another front moves through. here we go. through the overnight you can see some of those showers and storms do hold through. this is 2:00 a.m. so could be hearing a few rumble of thunder through the overnight

into monday afternoon we're back to scattered showers and storms but then things quiet down into monday night. so here's your forecast. overnight warm and muggy scattered storm possible. low 70. tomorrow humid, partly sunny with scattered thunderstorms around 88 for the high temperature. your shore forecast you may have to dodge a shower or storm, temperatures there a little bit cooler in the low 80's. here's the extended forecast. there's that heat wave tuesday, wednesday thursday, low and mid 90's. more showers and storms thursday and by next weekend it's dry but hot temperatures near 90 and we're into august. >> thank you very much justin. appreciate that. all right, the phillies are on a roll. >> how about those phillies. >> they caught a hot streak. >> what's going on? who are these guys wearing the phillies uniform? they have not been playing like the worst team in baseball surprising everyone seven and one since the all-star break. today they went for the sweep of the cubs. in the first odubel herrera at the plate. hernandez scores to make it

hamels' no-hitter. one of the teams that called texas rangers, they have the prospect the phillies want. cole threw the team's 13th mom hitter. the last pitcher to throw a no-hitter at wrigley was colfax. kind of had the feeling cole had the stuff to get that no-no. >> in the sixth inning, that's what i was thinking. something speak can happen today. >> cole's next scheduled start is at the bank against the braves. that trade deadline friday 4 o'clock. now to football. eagles start training camp at the novacare complex in seven days. lots of questions going into this camp after chip kelly took over player personnel. got rid of shady mccoy, nick foles and trent coles, nine starters gone from last season. clip says he didn't feel the team was close enough to win it all and he had to get better as a team. we'll find out starting next sunday.
