treasure. more than a million dollars worth of gold lost for 300 years is discovered off the florida coast. this is the "cbs morning news" for tuesday, july 28th, 2015. good morning. thanks for joining us. i'm alison harmelin. we begin with politics and a just released poll showing donald trump surging to the top of the presidential field for republicans in new hampshire. trump has a 2-1 lead over his nearest rival jeb bush and it's taken after trump's comments about john mccain's war record. meanwhile, president obama says some of the attacks on his nuclear deal with iran is ridiculous and saying others are trying to steal the spotlight in trump. >> reporter: president obama said during his trip to africa the comments from the nuclear

deal with iran is ridiculous if it weren't so sad and that was directed at mike huckabee and ted cruz and signals the first time the president has directly criticized the candidates who want his job. mike huckabee continues to defend his remarks criticizing president obama and comparing the iran nuclear deal to the holocaust. >> he would take the israelis and basically march them to the door of the oven. >> reporter: the controversial comments have put hillary clinton -- huckabee in the spotlight spotlight spotlight. republican rival scott walker was left with no choice but to weigh in while campaigning in illinois illinois. >> i don't use language like that because it's a bad deal. >> reporter: jeb bush called the comments wrong during an event in orlando. he instead focused on his ideas for reforming the immigration system. >> the idea of rallying people up is not an american value.

>> reporter: in recent weeks many of the republican candidates have been trying to set themselves apart. >> i think you're seeing 16 republicans fighting each other for substantially in a very, very crowded field. >> reporter: only the top ten candidates in the polls will make it into the first republican debate next week in cleveland. the university poll looking at the race in new hampshire shows that trump is ticking away the most votes from chris christie and scott walker and ted cruz and it also indicates trump is doing the best with very conservative voters and tea party supporters. >> wendy gillette in new york, thank you. lashing out after a story about old allegations concerning trump. the store appears on the website "the daily beast." it repeats allegations from trump's then wife ivana trump who referred to a sexual encounter with trump as a rape but said i dopted want not want my

words interpreted in a criminal sense. in an interview with "the daily beast" trump's lawyer sorted quote, by the very definition you can't rape your spouse. marital rape was made illegal in all american states in 1993. the lawyer also tried to intimate reporter tim mack. coming up on "cbs this morning" we will talk to mack about the story. two countries agree to clear a terror group from northern syria along turkey's border. the same area where the u.s. has been conducting air strikes against isis. it could put the kurdish at odds who have been fighting isis since last year. it's shaping up to be another dangerous day for firefighters in the west. conditions are ripe for wildfires and continue as temperatures are hot and winds are high. nearly 2,000 buildings are threatened by the fast moving wildfire in the sierra foothills

northeast of sacramento and it's just about 20% contained. officials say another fire in northern california that destroyed at least one home and burned over 400 acres was deliberately set. kovr has our report. >> reporter: a frantic fight on the front lines of a fast moving fire. >> very dry, very flat and so with erratic winds, it was easy to spread very quickly. >> reporter: investigators say the fire was started in the middle of a large field near alverda and quickly spreading into two counties and racing towards homes. >> it's very scary. fire scares me. >> reporter: several neighbors rushed through thick black smoke to rescue the horses. >> we had to break the fence down to get them out and they are babies with mammas and not very well trained. >> i just saw people who needed help and i just jumped out of my car and i just tried to do anything i could. >> reporter: they say aircraft

from the lowell fire up the hill were called to help extinguish the flames and nearby power lines are a problem for crews on the ground. >> power lines did fall and burn and a safety concern. >> reporter: the firefighters were not able to save this home and a half dozen classic cars on his ten-acre property. >> it's sad. a lot of memories in there. things we can't get back but it's things so no one was hurt and that is the main thing. >> reporter: he is disappointed to hear the fire was intentionally set by a suspected arsonist. >> it's unfortunate, you know, they don't know the damage that they have caused. >> reporter: angela hemphill for cbs news. the body believed to be that of a missing california girl has been found and this morning, a suspect is under arrest. 8-year-old madison middleton disappeared sunday afternoon from a housing center in santa cruz. she was last seen riding her scooter at an art center. a body was found last night in a

trash bin and a boy who lives nearby a awas taken into custody. >> we have arrested and taken into custody a 15-year-old male that was present on the property this evening at approximately the same time that we discovered the body. >> middleton lived with her mother. police say the teenage suspect is being interrogated. the coast guard says there is still hope to find a pair of teens missing in the atlantic. hundreds of people gathered in jupiter for a prayer vigil for perry cohen and austin stephenos. their boat was found overturned 170 miles from where they were last seen. sister of james holmes is testifying in her brother's trial. she is the first to testify in her older brother's system. they last saw him in a jail cell

monday that crossed back and forth from new jersey into pennsylvania. the driver was wanted in connection with an armed robbery. police suvs managed to surround the van, but the suspect slipped away. pursuit came to a dramatic end near the philadelphia airport. a cruiser clipped the van and sent it rolling over and the driver was taken into custody. the mormon church says it's quote, deemly troubled that the scouts ended a gay leader. church sponsored scout church can. a lgbt rights campaign said the scouts shouldn't get church groups continue to exclude gays. on the cbs "moneywatch." be aware of an android hack attack. >> reporter: stocks in asia were mixed and china stepped in to

prop up the market after the shanghai market lost 8% on monday. beijing injected cash into the money markets and said it was prepared to buy shares. today, it closed down more than 1% and tokyo's nikkei fell a fraction. the massive sell-off in chinese stock markets pulled stocks on wall street down. the dow lost 127 points and s&p lost 12 and nasdaq closed 48 points lower. a hacking scandal. researchers found hackers can take control of an android phone just by sending a text message that includes a video attachment. you don't each have to open the message to be infected. google is sending a fix for all android devices to its partners. new york's laguardia airport is getting a much-needed makeover. a year ago joe biden compared laguardia to an airport in a

third world country. yesterday, new york governor andrew cuomo announced plans to refurbish the airport. it will cost 4 billion dollars. the first areas are expected to open in 2019. it won't happen soon but you'll eventually be able to buy the sports network espn without a cable subscription. espn will be sold online like hbo has started doing through apple tv. they say this is something would happen five years or more out. more than a million dollars worth of gold coins and change was salvaged from a 300-year-old ship wreck off the florida coast. the 1715 fleet is a group of 11 spanish ships that sank in 1715 during the hurricane.

new benefiber healthy shape. this, i can do. here's a look at today's forecast in some cities around the country. story surveillance video shows a violent four an alarm burglary attempted in milwaukee. a van backs into a clothing store's front door and smashing it in, but when the suspects try to enter, they surprised by bullet. inside the store's owner opened fire. one of the would-be burglars was hit and two others got away. he suffered nonlife-threatening injuries. police say the store owner will not face charges. a florida man is dead and another is facing murder and other charges after a road rage incident went out of control.

much of it was recorded on 911 calls. our tampa affiliate wtsb reports. >> reporter: 51-year-old robert doyle was on the phone with 911, at the same time 44-year-old kendall gonzalez's wife was also on the phone with 911. >> reporter: both drivers believed the other driver was the aggressor but it was gonzalez who was following doyle. he wanted to give police doyle's home address. >> no i'm going home. the gun is coming out and i'm going to [ bleep ]. >> we are not going to follow. >> reporter: doyle who has a concealed weapons permit parked his car at his home and got out. that's when gonzalez stopped and exited his vehicle. that's when citrus detectives say doyle shot gonzalez multiple times and killed him. >> an entry wound to the chest and three entry wounds to the back. >> reporter: the detectives have

charged robert doyle with second-degree murder because they don't think the shooting was premeditated. >> between the evidence found on scene and the -- couple that with the 911 calls, we felt comfortable that mr. doyle was the primary aggressor. >> reporter: after doyle shot gonzalez he pointed the gun at gonzalez's family. >> at one point ordered the wife and two children out of the vehicle. >> reporter: for that doyle faces three counts of aggravated assault. the secretaries say the who men did not know each other before they encountered each other on the road. >> the lesson learn, either one of them would have disengaged that would not have happened. a florida police officer suspended after video is shown him tossing food at a suspect. a surveillance camera shows this officer throwing peanuts into the mouth of the handcuffed man. at one point, the homeless man kneels to eat off the floor. the officer seen using his shoe to kick food towards the suspect.
