real strong cold front move through, like changing of the guard. the warmth and humidity subside, cooler drier air take over. that's not what happened here. so back essentially to square one and it will be hotter today than yesterday even despite cold front passage air quality alert something we have to mention here, in effect for most of the state of new jersey. say for atlantic, cape may counties, so even if you are hitting the shore points, you have to take it easy out there guys, if you have any kind of respiratory problems, anything like, that if you know the air quality when it is poor, it affect you it, could affect you today. 75 degrees, the current temperature meanwhile at philadelphia international airport. just len any lower mid 70s everywhere else, say for some of the most row mother counties you do have warmth and humidity to work with region wide today. even though it looks at face value, mo more comfortable day for you at the shore granted not quite as hot as it is in the sit. that humidity starting to ramp

great, there as well. so erika looking good. it is early but looking good out there. >> time to hit the roads thank up. breaking news right now out of southwest philadelphia. one firefighter injured while battling early morning house fire. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo joins us now from that scene, jan what have you learned? good morning. >> reporter: erika, good morning, i just poke to the battalion chief live on scene here this morning, he tells me that while this fire is still under investigation preliminarilly it, does appear that the cause of this fire is suspicious, in nature, take a look behind me, the fire started right there in the second home, from the corner, here on kingsessing avenue. the battalion chief says neighbors awoke around 3:30 this morning to someone banking on the door there. soon after he says, those neighbors reported seeing this fire burning out of control. now, all the people who live on that side of the street, the four homes there on the 5900 block they all gout out safely actually out before firefighters arrived. one firefighter however we're told did suffer minor injury,

was taken to presbyterian for treatment. fire marshall's office is on scene right now investigating the exact cause of this fire, but again officials tell me the cause does seem to be suspicious in nature at this time. and the house where this all started, that second home from the corner there has been a problem house for police in the past. at this time live on scene you can see firefighters, fire crews still remain here, of course, they need to make sure there are no hot spots. also residents still displace from the their homes only the two on the corner there the corner house and the home where this fire started are damaged, we're told, the other two folks should be able to get back in there sometime today. this is still a developing story. just as soon as we get more information, we will bring it straight to you. for now live in kingsessing jan carabeo cbs-3 "eyewitness news". jan, thank you. also breaking this morning live look at house fire in monroe township gloucester county. this is the 200 block of buckingham court where two alarm fire broke out around 2:30 this morning. there is no word right now on possible injuries.

we will continue to follow this braking news and bring you update throughout the morning. now to this story, just bizarre police chase, that spanned two states, several highways and also, involved dozens of officers on the ground and in the air. they are told this chase started around 7:30 last night, in oakland, camden county. police pull over a car for a traffic stop. they soon realize the man's wanted forearmed robbery. now, that's when he fleece, and the whole chase starts. he heads to philadelphia, then bark over the bridge to new jersey. he drives through camden, to the depford mall, again back over the bridge, to philadelphia. the man eventually exits i95 near the airport. that's when police use what is called a pitman offer. the van rolled ton service road. police have identified that driver as robert ritter. he was wanted on armed robbery warrant out of gloucester township. >> again, the coordination through the radio rooms is important here i think in new jersey ends of it, philadelphia ends, radio room dispatch verse been great. then most importantly i think

the helicopter communicating down to the ground units work perfectly, again not easy things to do, specially when you have multiple payment zero agencies involved. but i think the state police, philadelphia police, new jersey, did a great job brinking this to conclusion. >> you can watch extended version that far dramatic pursuit on our website cbsphilly.com. 50:67:89 pope francis coming to philadelphia in less than two months. there is still no word though on when the special pope transit passes will become available. septa's e commerce side has been down since it crashed last week due to crushing demand. that transit agency was supposed to give us update yesterday about the troubled website, but did not. i don't want to be overly critical. i think this is a great opportunity for the city, and something that's really new for septa. it is not like they have something like this already in their policy handbook. so they are kind of constructing the plane while flying it. >> finding the passes is the only way people can ride septa regional rail the weekend of

september 26th. mayor nutter also talking about secure i at this parameters during the papal vets. hear him dispel rumors coming up in the next half hour. >> right now the manna cured of stabbing mother and her young daughter over the weekend, he is scheduled for extradition hearing today in maryland. in that hearing, 41 year old steven burton will decide if he'll wave his right to extradition to be brought back to philadelphia to face charges. police say a domestic dispute sunday ended when burton allegedly attacked 21 month old baby girl, and her mother, with a knife in west oaklane. the mother and daughter remain in critical condition. now, new this morning police have found a body after young girl in santa cruz california. they believe it is that of mattie middleton a eight year old girl who went missing outside her mother's home. as andrew spencer reports teenage boy who lives in the same apartment complex has been arrested in connection with her disappearance. the fbi had just joined the search for missing girl in santa cruz california, where

the chief of police gathered reporters overnight. >> this is extraordinarily heart breaking news that i am about to give to you. our detective discovered the body of a young female inside after dumpster at the complex located behind me. >> on sunday, eight year old madison middleton disappeared outside her mother's apartment, reporters spoke to maddie's mom during the search monday. >> she was riding her brand new scooter the white razor. she had black helmet on. she was wearing purple dress. just happy as could be riding around. >> at the time she didn't know where her daughter could be. >> i already fell apart now i am just in survival mode. i can't explain how difficult this is. nobody should have to go through this. >> it is horrible. it is awful. as i said when i first announced that we found her it is heart breaking, the last time i stood in front after group like this and spoke was when my two officers were

toward minute society, a the dakotas, very nasty looking wall line of colds front moving on through with heavy rain thunderstorms, this is eventually going to be the system that moves through our area, and does bring at least little bit after change in our pattern. but, for now we do still have quite a bit of heat, humidity to deal with down across the deep south looking specifically through the mid mississippi valley, planes, heat warnings, heat advisories, all in effect, and we look at the core of the heat right now i mean, sun's not even up, not even for us here on the east coast. obviously not up yet in little rock dallas, but already into the 80s in those locations meanwhile, here in philadelphia currently at 75. this is eventually going to all head our way in the form of building heat for the next few days. how hard are we talking? well, we have seen couple of heatwaves already, each have been exactly three days, one happened in june, another earlier this month. and the latest, we think at this point, is going to last beyond the three day stretch that would make it an official

heatwave. so as we look at the seven day, here you have it, low or mid 90's. tuesday, wednesday thursday, friday saturday, sunday, and beyond. so, what are we looking at here? worse of the heat, worse of the humidity specifically i would say is tomorrow and thursday. that's when heat indexes may spike as high as the triple digits. take it easy out there. by late in the day thursday, though shower, thunderstorm will come along to help cool things off at least little bit, meisha. >> sounds like it will be at least beautiful morning we certainly know it will be warm out there. but the roadways are nice and dry. this is great for morning commute. specially now. moving into the 5:00 o'clock hour, we start to see more and more vehicles start to head out on the roadway exactly what we want, dry roadways, southbound girard, you can see, i was looking at cottman avenue, just little north of right where we are right here. that's also starting to kind of just heat up little bit a lot of tail light out there moving into center city. it is an early start. we typically see earlier starts though. specially early on in the week, monday, tuesday, wednesday. then as we progress toward the weekends it, gets little

better. concrete deck improvement onramp from the spring garden street to westbound schuylkill closing until august 4th, 1 week from today. this is closed, moving on to the schuylkill, just the westbound direction so that's the good thing. 422 at observation oak, moving toward the king of prussia area, you can see, thee travelers moving in the eastbound direction. nice easy peas i everyone traveling at posted speeds, as well. overall anywhere i look our speed censor map showing all clear, erika over to you. >> meisha, thank you. police are investigating a recent rash of robberies at cvs stores across the region. now we want to show you the man right here. this is who police say held up store on neck road in burlington township sunday morning. police say the armed suspect emptied the safe then ran away. investigators say, he's the same man who hit as many as 6cvs stores in the tri-state area since july 5th. he's -- these individuals or this individual, that if they are not id and arrested, that this pattern of conduct

will persist until they are. >> police add that the suspect strikes as the stores are opening or closing. if you have any information about those robberies, you are asked to call police. this florida man is under arrest after he is accused of secretly using his phone to take video up a woman's skirt at burlington township wal-mart store. it happened sunday afternoon at the store on mt. holly road. police say it is possible 44 year old giovanni verona may have committed similar crimes at other stores, so they are asking anyone who recognizes him to give them a call. some would be robbers in milwaukee picked the wrong target for a smash and grab. they nearly got killed in this brazen robbery attempt. after the robbers back their van into a clothing store they had to duck for cover when the owner the owner of the store started firing his gun at them. >> by the way i was scarred for my life. so i reached for my gun, and that's when everything happened. i did what i had to do to protect myself. and my business, and my
