at least not dealing so much with the wet weather here at the local level though we do definitely have heat to deal with this morning. in fact, we are already close to 80 degrees this hour, despite the fact that clearly the sunnies not up. sky scan three showing you live view from camden overlooking ben franklin bridge, center city, all looking g it is clear as can be but it does feel warm and very steamy outside. an excessive heat warning is still in effect. the it is not excessively hot right now rather we're just keeping this going throughout the rest of this afternoon until 6:00 p.m. specifically for philadelphia, essentially i-95, and the immediate vicinity throughout lining suburbs for heat index values that once again top off around one hundred degrees. so, we're talking about storms, right? where are they? they are starting to impact us far off to the west. storm scan is still nice and clear but we have that myself tour to work w dew point of 72, kind of the magic number

extremely critical condition. the let's show you car all four were in earlier, that car right there split in half by i am pennsylvania pack of that crash. this was a car that was an acura tl with two in the front, two in the back at 11:50 when it crashed on sanmeyer lane crashing in the tree and being split nearly completely in half police say. now travel at a high rate of speed. witness overheard the crash and called police once they arrived they say they he saw a very chaotic scene. victims range from late teens to early 20's. three here died on the scene. one taken to the hospital, in extremely critical condition. police say at this point they are looking into whether there was a second car involved, if this was perhaps a case of trag racing, that is unclear at this time. this case is under investigation. police say this was a recipe high speed and young drivers in devastation and that is what happened here this morning, take a listen. >> teenagers, high speed,

carabao is talking to the phillies fans. what dough think, good morning. >> reporter: good evening month. after much speculation it does look like cole hamels time in philadelphia is coming to an end and the reaction, throughout the delaware valley this morning is that of disappointment for the most part. it was in the hard to find people who are fans of cole's and fans of the phillies here in pennsauken this morning. lets look at the video. cbs sports says hamels signed with the texas rangers through 2018 with an option for 2019. rakers are hoping to build a strong team for next year and beyond n exchange sources say phillies will get a package of prospects. hamels will be the first pitcher in the history traded during a season immediately after throwing a in hitter. in his last start hamels, no hit chicago cubs on saturday at wrigley field. folks here in philadelphia are sad to see him go. hamels is world series mvp in 2008 and big part of the greatest run in franchise

that no hitter against the cubs, way to go out on top, we will miss him, thanks, cole. pennsylvania congressman chaka fattah says he has done nothing wrong and vowing to fight corruption charges against him. twenty-nine count indictment details schemes going back to 2007 when fattah ran unsuccessfully for mayor of the philadelphia it says congressman borrowed million-dollar from the wealthy supporter and only paid some back using money and federal grants from a non-profit. he is accused of using campaign machine toy pay off his son's student loans. fattah addressed the indictment from the u.s. capitol take a listen. >> this is not tea flightgate thinks a normal issue of which there are allegations after a very long running are eight year investigation. >> four of the fattah's alleged associates are also facing charges. fattah will appear in court once a date is scheduled. a surprise and sadness in the wake of the congressman's indictment. we spoke with fattah's mother. she said i have faith the in

madagascar. it could be part of the flight that disappeared without a trace more than a year ago. cbs news reporter wendy gilette reports from new york. >> reporter: an investigation is underway honorary union island this morning where the 6-foot long piece of an aircraft wing was found yesterday. sources tell cbs news that the debris appears to be from a boeing triple seven, the same model as the missing malaysia models flight 370. experts identified it as a critical piece of the airplane's wing, which could be mark with valuable serial numbers. >> there will be markings object that, that we can tell boeing yes, from the triple seven and yes, sir from the plane. >> reporter: discovery marks first possible break through in the search for missing flight. plane was flying from kuala lumpur to beijing in march 2014 when it vanished with 239 people on board. since the triple seven was first introduced in 1994, the plane is only one that has ever disappeared over the sea, as well as south of the

equator. this. >> this begins the search that, in fact, tells thaws somewhere near this potentially we could find other bits and pieces of the aircraft. >> reporter: search teams focused their efforts on a large area in the southern indian ocean off the coast of australia, more than 2,000 miles from reunion island n trace of the plane has ever been found. wendy gilette for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". all right. let's check with katie on this forecast, hot one, right katie. >> absolutely, that is the big story initially but then storms move in for us here locally. so we are tracking a cold front. that cold front will be responsible for bringing in at least some relief when it comes to the humidity but for now we are still having to deal with more heat, more sunshine, more excessive heat as a result of the humidity and a warming in effect for all of those counties shaded in pink yesterday. so i-95, philadelphia, trenton, wilmington right along that stretch and surrounding vicinity.

so lets show you is what going on, storm scan three, pretty much as this line approaches alleghenies we are dealing with a couple pockets of showers, locally heavy rain, a few little hints of lightening as well across northwestern portions of pennsylvania, and that is likely what we are finding moving through. you can see a line essentially that has formed here. that is what is firing up later in the day. we sit in a marge national nal wrist being with this frontal boundary. the core of the storm as we zoom it out one more time is way up north over the hudson bay. you will not be dealing with quite as much of the severe weather threat today but regardless we have a lot of heat building out there. we have moisture to work w downpours, frequent lightening, gusty win, that will very likely come along with anything that fires up later today. let's talk times, shall we? western counties, i would say anywhere from chester, montgomery on west and points north of the lehigh valley and poconos. we will see things fire up as

early as 2:00 p.m. but up toward typical evening rush this is all approaching philadelphia and vicinity. obviously timing is less than ideal here. the coastal new jersey down the shore maybe for a week around dinner time is best time storms fire up for you. let's talk about storm threats. downpours, wind, lightening, pretty much primary concern. i don't think we have to worry about hail or tornadoes. we will keep that low on the risk level here. beaches looking pretty good, initially but, toward evening, maybe we have got dinner plans, going out the with ice cream for the family just keep in mind about storm cloud rolling n next couple days, we don't lose heat behind this cold front but we will lose humidity for a few days but it will be a hot, sunny weekend, pretty tranquil forecast, just hot. >> yes, just hot, sticky, all right, thanks very much. good news is we won't be dwelling any rain. fingers still closed but sound good, in that regard. here's i-95 south, by the s

curve into center city. everyone traveling at posted speed still in the 5:00 o'clock hour. we would hope that would be the case but you never know. we have some construction that has cleared. i-95 south approaching vine street both left and part of the right lane were blocked for quite sometime. you can see nice and easy for those making your way in to that stretch. on ramp from spring garden to the schuylkill expressway westbound is closed until next week on tuesday, august 4th. so just make note of that. that ram many has been causing some issues for some of you. we have down wires in abington, old york road is closed, near rockwell road. for those traveling in and around that area you're being divert todd rockwell. that is the good news, that is your alternate, just make sure to give yourself a couple extra minutes because it is a busy one. nicole, over to you. 5:18. police released dash cam video showing an april encounter with chattanuga rampage gunman

mow ham eld april dog sees. police say they pulled over ab toll sees april 20th as he weaved across the road. he failed a sobriety test and had white powder on his nose. he shot and killed five service members before police fatally shot him. closing arguments in the sentencing of convicted killer james holmes begin today. jurors will decide if the movie theater gunman will receive the the death penalty or life behind bars. holmes parents testified on his behalf yesterday, saying that they had no eye tea he was mentally ill. twelve people were killed in july, 2013, in that massacre in aurora, colorado. we are hearing for the first time from the woman who alerted emergency responders during last weeks louisiana a theater shootings. thousands gathered at a church in lafayette from a night of prayer and support. it was in that town where two women were killed and a gunman shot herself yesterday. shooting victim gina bow, the teacher who pulled the fire alarm at the movie theater
