although those heat warnings stay necessity effect until 6:00 p.m. for heat index values that will cycle around hundred this afternoon. storm scan empty, looking closely at last three hour loop you can see those speckles that show up. some might see a quick shower, rolling through, generally things are off to a quiet start in terms of the weather pattern in terms of the precipitation. that will change with time, currently feels like 80 in millville and airport. feeling like mid 70's every where else. we are basically within two or 3 degrees across the board here in terms of the actual air temperature and how it feels when you factor in the humidity. looking forward in this forecast there is some relief on the way, granted, it the is still the dog days of summer. we are coming up on the beginning of the august if you can believe it, all right, but there will be relief that takes place here as we move forward behind a line of showers and thunderstorms set to move in this afternoon. we will track those for you today, in the meantime we are

expecting daytime high to hit 91 at the height of the afternoon before the storms get the through here. meisha, over to you. >> so evening rush, you might have a little problem on your had hand but so far so good this morning. happy thursday. around 6:00 o'clock, we will take a little drive to day it is schuylkill westbound to the blue route approaching conshohocken curve. you can see nice, easy drive. don't be a back seat driver, it is 55 miles an hour in that stretch. here's the schuylkill ramp to the blue route, you can see easy there. only place we are seeing slow downs right now is i-95 southbound as you are right around girard trying to make your way to center city. it is a very busy stretch. i will say you are traveling less than posted speed. many of you just starting to tap on your brakes and i-95 north bound at 452 in and around airport area as well we are looking g look at i-95 northbound looking just great in that stretch. home place i'm seeing slow down is one i just showed you

i-95 southbound at girard. going to a line you can see sensors maps, great, looking great here 55 miles an hour, except for i-95 southbound but still 46, we will take it moving in the 6:00 a.m. hour. more on our breaking news story out of northeast fail this morning, three people are killed and one taken to the hospital after an overnight crash in bustleton. police suspect drag racing may be the cause here. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch is live here, what is the latest there. >> reporter: nicole, investigation continues this morning, we do necessity is there one survivor of this crash, a male, we are told, that person is extremely critical condition, at aria torresdale hospital. the other three victims two male -- rather two female and one male were fund dead here at scene cut from this car just behind us here. as you can see it almost appears to be two cars, that is one car split in half by impact of this crash, all four were inside of that car at the

time, two in the front and two in the back. lets go to video of the scene earlier this was an acura tl that split in half here on sand meyer lane traveling at a high rate of speed when that car crashed in the tree just before midnight last night. the witness heard the sound of the crash, called 911 and police arrived for the one person to be found eject from that car and three others trapped inside apparently they already lost their lives. police described that scene as chaotic late last night. they also say they are in the sure at this time for sure if a second car was involve. they are looking into reports it may have been a drag race, with a second car leaving the scene and leaving four victims here in this condition here. the crash now at this time appears to be still under investigation, take a listen. >> right now, we don't know, we are trying to recover some video right now from the construction site, owners of the property to see if there was another car that was involved with this drag race

so right now we just don't know. we cannot confirm if there was another car that was involved. >> reporter: luckily what we do know is at this point it does not appear to be alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. we looked at that car and how severe it was broken you can tell it was at a high rate of speed. they will take a look at the contractors parking lot here, and a camera was rolling at the time of the accident. just what factors contributed to this crash. we are live, in bustleton, justin finch for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> such a tragic story, thank. 6:05. pennsylvania congressman chaka fattah is vowing to stay in office after being indicted on corruption charges. twenty-nine count indictment details schemes going back to 2007 when fattah ran unsuccessfully for mayor of the philadelphia the congressman borrowed a million-dollar from the wealthy supporter and only paid back some using money and federal grants from a non-profit. he is also accused of using

campaign machine toy pay off his son's student loans. fattah addressed the indictment from the u.s. capitol. take a listen. >> this is not deflategate, all right. this is a normal issue of which there are allegations, after a very long running eight year investigation. >> four of fattah's associates are facing charges facts take will appear in court once a date is scheduled. the phillies welcomed the atlanta braves in south philadelphia tonight as they bid farewell to ace cole hamels. sources say hamels had has been trade todd texas. reports that hamels signed with the texas rangers through 2018 with an option for 2019. has three years remaining and 144 million-dollar, six year contract. the rangers, are stronger season next year but in exchange sources say phillies will get a package of prospects. the once the deal is finalized hamels will be first pitcher traded during a season immediately after throwing a in hitter. in his last start for phillies hamels in hit chicago cubs on saturday at wrigley field. hamels was world series mvp in 2008 and big part of the great rest unin franchise history when phillies won five straight and nl east titles, two pennants and one world seer fridays 2007 to 2011. folks here are sad to see him go but some are such big cole hamels fans they are happy he is going to a team that can help him win sooner then later. >> he deserves it. he has lost so many games because he had in hitting behind him but he will do well

investigators are examining a piece of aircraft wing found honorary union island off the east coast of africa. authorities say it ties early to know fit is part of the missing plane but it appears to be from the boeing triple seven. flight 370 disappeared last march as it traveled to beijing from kuala lumpur. 6:09. it started as a simple traffic stop and ended with a man dead and new an officer is charged with his murder. >> this is the knows assonine act i have ever seen a police officer make. the entire incident caught on the officer's body cam, we will show you video coming up next. mother's devastation is caught on camera when she realizes she left her daughter inside a hot car. thankfully that little girl survived, hear from the good samaritan came to her rescue coming up next.

said they heard a whim per. they found a little girl inside strapped in her car seat. >> she was really red. she wasn't making any sound, she wasn't crying, she wasn't making any sound but very lethargic and just dripping in sweat. little sweat on her head. it looked like she had been in the pool and put in a car seat, that is how soaking wet she was. her diaper was soaking. it was bad. >> just heart breaking. that couple says, that they were with that girl for an hour before they are mother showed up. police arrested that mother at the scene. little girl, thankfully, expected to be okay, but such an important reminder, with these temperatures outside even when it is not that hot outside, leaving a child in the car it can escalate so quickly and become a life and death situation. >> even with the windows crack, nicole, it is a greenhouse effect. you just can't do it. the absolutely can't do it. even on a comfortable day,

those cars can turn into oven, in in minutes. another check on just some ways to stay safe in the heat, we do have an excessive heat warning in effect until 6:00 p.m. wear light loose fitting clothing. if you have to be out drink lots of water. that is beverage of dress. draw blind during the day if you do not have a benefit of the air conditioning keep that solar heating out. it is greenhouse effect, you get that radiation in but hottest radiation will stay in there. you only lose some of it. you end up heating up interior of the car so much more quickly then you do just being on the outside environment. check on the elderly, make sure your pets are safe. make sure your kids are okay. this is heat that can be dangerous if you are in the smart bit. we talk bit all the time. we see it every single summer. we want to remind you here based on the story we just saw. taking a look at storm scan three, this is our savior when it comes to the humidity this line of the storms. more so than anything it is a

evening rush which is great for us morning commuters. >> yes. >> yes. >> good morning everyone if you are just joining us welcome we are in the 6:00 o'clock hour and that means our roadways are certainly heating up at this point. we have no accidents to report which is great news. here's i-95 southbound at girard. now, in the north bound side, i-95 northbound we did have a bus that was pulled off to the shoulder not the causing any delays. lets go in the opposite way of the flow of the traffic but right now here's a look moving where we are moving toward center city at girard. this is a busiest stretch already. i have been keeping my eye on this because this is one we saw heating up in the 5:00 o'clock hour and continues to do so. roosevelt boulevard southbound heading toward that schuylkill express waste and sometimes when we get backups on the westbound lanes of the the schuylkill it backs us up here on the roosevelt boulevard. but right the now we are

happening today a young girl shot by her own father will testify at a sentencing. twenty-eight year-old bayer johnson from sicklerville, new jersey was quick of attempted murder in connection to the january 2013 shooting. it happened inside a home in camden as johnson was trying to visit. that young girl was just one years old at the time of the shooting. this woman tameika may zone is out on bail after turning herself in for fatal hit and run of the four year-old boy. only "eyewitness news" was there when mason surrendered to authorities yesterday. she is accused of hitting four year-old latif wilson in april and then driving away. that boy was playing on south

57th street in kingsessing when he ran out in the street. mason is charged with homicide by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter. 6:21. prosecutors in ohio released body cam video from the university of cincinnati police officer who is now facing a murder charge for shooting a driver he pulled over in a traffic stop. cbs news correspondent mar liz hall from more from new york. >> reporter: university of cincinnati police officer ray tensing surrendered to authorities wednesday, he is being indicted for murder of the four three-year old samuel dubose, shot dead during a traffic stop on july 19th. >> this is, without question a murder. >> reporter: the prosecutor released the officer's body camera video that shows tensing pulling dubose over for a missing front license plate. dubose hands the officer a bottle of gin in the vehicle and says he does not have his driver license on him. tensing asked due woes to get out of the car. dubose restarts vehicle. officer tensing ordered him to

we are updating breaking news in northeast philadelphia this morning three, people killed in the violent crash there overnight. police suspect they may have been drag racing. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch is live there this morning. what is the latest. such a tragic story. >> reporter: indeed, nicole under daylight you see what a gruesome wreck this was. three dead, two females and one male now fighting for his life in the hospital in very extremely critical condition we are told. that is the car that they were in, split in half, nearly by the force of this accident. lets go now to video of this scene earlier at the start of the investigation. police say this was an acura tl a late model, traveling on sandmeyer lane about 11:50 last night at a high rate of speed when it struck a tree and as you saw nearly split in two. it landed here in the contractor parking lot where they have surveillance video. it does appear at some point on sandmeyer the car lost control near the bend here

just above red lion road. inside four people, three dead now and one survivor. age range are from late teens to early 20's say police. it is unclear at this time they say if a second car or more than two cars played a a role in this crash. they are investigating. this could have been a case of drag racing. nevertheless police say it is a remind for parents and young adults to have a conversation about safety behind the wheel, take a listen. >> teenagers, high speed, driving a car, thinking they are having a good time and it only takes a second to loose control of the vehicle and have a senseless lost loss of life. very unnecessary. >> reporter: police say on the scene so far no signs of drugs or alcohol that may have played a role in this crash. again looking at surveillance video at this point to see if the second car or other factors contributed to this crash. we have three dead here, two

"eyewitness news" caught up with d.a. and resident of the northern liberties wednesday night. williams say the goal, it is to improve relations and make neighbors feel safe. residents we spoke with say crime is a a big issue. >> i know that the crime rate in northern liberties has been increasing. i feel like safety is an issue. i know this areas up and coming rorrer report this walk was third of the kind, several weeks ago williams led a walk that was met with mixed reactions. there are three more walks lake this planned in neighborhood around the city in the coming weeks. today marks 50th anniversary of medicare the government health care program

that covers 55 million seniors and those under age 65 who are permanently disable. for more we are join by cbs news business analyst jill schlesinger live for us in new york. good morning, jill. >> reporter: good morning good so lets start off nice and simple who is eligible for medicare. >> if you or your spouse is 65 and you paid payroll taxes for ten years you are in. you have to officially enroll in the program, unless you already receive social security and in that case you are automatically enrolled. if you work beyond age 65 either you or your spouse you have health insurance you can delay until you retire good what are different parts of the medicare and what exactly is covered, people are confused out there. >> it is totally confusing. i will never forget when my parents were signing up with this and i had to learn about this. this is crazy. is there part a that covers hospital services, and skilled nursing facilities but just up

to a hundred days. some home health care and hospice care. part b is your doctor's visit, outpatient services, lab work and some preventive care. part c, this is kind of weird because it is not part of the medicare it is an alternative to medicare it is private insurance, they give you different choices. and then part d that covers prescription drugs. the cost for all this vice based on your income. if you want coverage to get your out of pocket expenses under wraps you can purchase medicare supplemental insurance, that is sold by private companies. this is important. medicare does not cover long term care. you heard me talk about a stay up to a hundred days but if you have a chronic illness and you will be in a nursing home for months and months and months medicare doesn't cover it. it doesn't cover routine hearing, vision, foot or dental care. if you are trying to get services outside u.s. will not be cover.

bribery, sham, and concealment. the congressman who went to washington in 1995 is accused of borrowing a million-dollar from a wealthy supporter and only paying some of it back using money and federal grant from a non-profit charity he runs. he is also accused of using 23 grand in campaign money to pay off his son's student loans. the indictment mentioned fattah's wife local news anchor renee fattah, she's not facing charges but authorities alleged she falsely reported the sale of her porsche convertible. the the congressman addressed the indictment from the u.s. capitol. >> this is not the deflategate, all right. this is a normal issue of which there are allegations, after a very long running eight year investigation. >> reporter: fattah's friend and long time philadelphia political alley, mayor nutter has had this to say. >> ultimately he has to decide what he wants to do and how he engages with his constituent.
