4:32 am
daytime hyatt philadelphia international airport. that extended heat day another day, making it the sixth, 90 plus degree day in a road, average 87 close to normal here. but you know it is pretty hot outside. that's for sure. that will will keep on being the theme. storm scan3 quiet as we mention, still not terribly humid. but that's something that is going to be changing for us with time here. let's take a look at the area temperatures at the moment, right up and down the i9 at corridor at 70 degrees, so it is mild certainly to start things off still pretty comfortable overall quakertown, 63 and we're into the mid and upper six's through the northern outlying suburbs. around the region we go. it turns more muggy today later this afternoon in philadelphia shooting for 93 for daytime high. we do think though with frontal boundary starting to approach, shot for shower or thunderstorm. we'll track the possibility as the show progresses, off to prep good start in the weather department. how is it looking in traffic? >> great news for traffic as well. roads are nice and dry. it is still dark, and yet one

4:45 am
we have to keep an eye on the possibility, nothing too major here. we are going to start things off by taking taught storm scan3, at the moment, see very heavy thunderstorms approaching cincinnati area, that for the most part dropping off to the south. you can see, there is very obviously well defined and sort of discontinuing line setting up here back across the great lakes and certainly as well up toward basically the canadian border, northeast, all has to roll on through. also see some moisture packing it self up here, just off shore of florida right now. that expected to bring additional rain, i know that caused some major delays for the buccaneers training camp over the course of the weekend, but that said, we are expecting back here at home more than anything, i call it upright quiet forecast. save for this frontal boundary. now, we had cold front move through last week, that did nothing to really cool us down. this is a similar scenario, front will come through later today, especially into tonight, bring shower or thunderstorm with it probably scattered more than anything in nature, then still in the 90s tomorrow. but we do think that this will
4:46 am
be the last day that hit at least 09 or above before this particular heatwave draws to close. we should actually be by at best by comparison only into the upper 80s here on wednesday, little less humidity for you still warm granted, expecting upper 80s that day. but overall definitely, not only seeing the heatwave drawing to a close here, but the humidity should take little bit after break once again. now, on thursday, same front stalled to the south new area of low pressure develops along it and that is what may end up bringing us the next round of heavier rain toward the end of the week, but for now expect just shower or thunderstorm late in the day high of 93, drop to 75 tonight, still scattered thunderstorms, look forward in the eyewitness weather seven day forecast, look at that, will feel quite cool by comparison for thursday, friday, and saturday. but again thursday, friday, at this point look like they could be a little on the un settled side. we'll keep an eye on it for you, back to you. >> thank you, robot who hitch hiked his way across country
4:47 am
met his untimely demise in philadelphia. hitch bot survived previous trips was found on alfred's alley dismembered friday. it left marble head massachusetts? july on its way to san francisco, creators say they don't blame the city of brotherly love for hitch bot's ends. >> this could have happened anywhere yes slutly, we don't really think it has anything to do with philadelphia. >> poor guy. no word on who is responsible for dismembering hitch bot or why they did it. >> all right, still ahead this morning on "eyewitness news" we get a check on your money watch report. first what's coming up tonight on cbs-3.
4:50 am
>> lottery to purchase a papal pace is taking place riders have until 11:59 tonight to enter and will be asked to pick a preferred travel dathan time. those who end letter find out on thursday if they've won. >> also, police are investigating an overnight home invasion in south philadelphia. two suspect broke into a home just before 1:00 this morning in the 1500 block of marshall street. police found at least one victim tied up inside the home. luckily, no one was injured. as outrage grows in the killing of the lion cecil we're learned another lion was killed in the same area allegedly at the hand after pennsylvania doctor. officials in zimbabwe say back in april doctor jan seske doctor who lives east of pittsburgh shot a lion with a bo and arrow without approval in a area where hunt something not permitted. money watch's hen a daniels joins us from the new york stork stock exchange, hearing triple a released monthly gas price report. what can we expect for the
4:51 am
month of august? a lot of folks are traveling. >> good morning erika we rarely get to say this, but summer good at the gas pump. triple a says prices are dropping for the 18th day straight. many families are hitting the road for vacation. triple a says gas prices are falling at the fastest rate since january. that is due to cheaper crude oil costs right now the national average at the pump about 2.65 in pennsylvania, drivers can expect to pray average of 2.73, little higher erika? >> not bad. hearing actress jessica alba honest company under fire for it sunscreen. what's wrong with it? what's going on here? >> yes, many consumers claim the mineral based spf30 sunscreen is not providing much sun protection at all. many are posting their sunburn pictures on social media. i got to tell you, it is not a pretty site. the honest company touts itself as ecofriendly, they released statement saying they stand by the efficacy of its sunscreen.
4:52 am
>> we'll see what happens, thank you so much. >> well, it is an exciting week here in philadelphia, restaurant week is back. this week, restaurant all over center city are offering three course dinners for $35 per person. many restaurants also have lunch specials, it runs through this friday, august 7th, you can find the list at participating restaurants on center city phila.org. >> coming up after the braining we'll get traffic and weather together.
4:54 am
>> 4:00 a 34, and we get a check on the roads with meisha. >> good morning, if you are just waking up with us, still early, still dark out, there many every you just waking up, grabbing the cup of coffee, happy to report the roadways look great. no accident to report right now, here's a look at 422 eastbound at oaks, for those of you headed toward the king of prussia area, these travels moving in the eastbound direction. plenty of headlight everyone still traveling at posted speeds which is what we want to hear on busy monday morning, as we approach the
4:55 am
5:00 hour. for those of you coming in from jersey, here is a look at the 42 freeway northbound at creek road. this is as you approach 295 like i said, you can see just steady stream of vehicles. of course, we just saw there it is, our freeway friend, in the quite sure if that's penndot or who that; but we always give a wave in the morning. >> so, i don't know about you katie, over, there but it is looking great on the roadways, sounds like another hot day? >> another hot day another bright sunny day but eventually wet weather does have to rumble through. we will be tracking cold front, that's going to be responsible for any wet wet their we do find in our forecast out there today. but let me go ahead start things off by talking heatwave. once again that continues i would say to be our primary weather headline, wouldn't youy? look for 2015 thus far we have had three, so far we're in the midst of what is currently technically a six day heatwave we expect to extend
4:56 am
that up to seven days, we kept the theme going now for six days straight, expect to go do it again here today. storm scan quiet at the regional level. talked about the cold front in the last bit. this there it is, that's what's crossing through not doing much to cool us down. much like the last one also, could not do. but we are regardless expecting to at least see some wet weather move in with that. now, from now, i expect down toward the shore point, you are just going see some sunshine here today warm, breezy uv index nice and high for those every that you love that. keep the sun block ready to go. it will be a scorcher after day. philadelphia meanwhile two more days we think of 90 degrees plus, and then we finally start to cool down, erika, into the 80s. back over to you. >> great cool break. thank you katie. coming up in the next hour of "eyewitness news", the latest on septa's papal pass lotteriment then new this morning, police in tennessee id suspect wanted for
4:59 am
>> this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". septa's regional rail pass lottery site is up and running, we ' live as commuter hope to hit the jackpot for the papal visit. good morning, it is monday, august 3rd i'm erika von tiehl. more on the top story coming up in a moment. first we check in with katie and meisha checking the roads and the forecast. >> roads are looking great katie. one good thing you get to wake up with us in the morning, but also, still nice outside, right? >> absolutely. so often at this time of the morning, i know things are just starting to get going for you in the traffic department. and thankfully, things still wyeth in the weather department. eventually wet weather to dodge. that will will come courtesy of the next approaching cold
5:00 am
front. much like the last cold front if you remember, that cold front came through and did not live up to it name at all. it knocked the humidity back in a real nice way. but that cold front did not cool us down. so, this is very similar scenario in terms of temperature at less from one day to the next. but we are eventually going to see some cooler, quote unquote, cooler air move in as the day progresses or the days progress, i should say. we go on outside. show you waist going on here first and for most. live look overlooking the ben franklin bridge, take friend the campbell's field camera across the river but all quiet both on the new jersey side of things and certainly in p a and delaware for that matter. we look next at storm scan3 all you have really got going on here is a little hint every ground clutterment things still very dry at the moment. relatively low dew point not terribly muggy just yet. but off in the distance, we are tracking a new cold front. so eventually, there is going to be shower or thunderstorm that fires up, for now though, expect sunshine, heat to build once more today expecting the high to hit
